Background: Éponine grew up the oldest of three children at The Sergeant at Waterloo inn in Montfermiel, France. When she was no older than three, her parents took in a young girl named Cosette, in order to help Cosette's mother out. But the Thenardier's were a selfish bunch, and soon put Cosette to work, acting as her mother's servant, and scapegoat for the Thenardier girls. This continued until Eponine was seven, and Cosette was taken away by a man sent by her mother. Her mother and father's rages turned on to Eponine and her sister, Azelma, and soon thereafter, they lost the inn and were forced to move to Paris for work.
Business never did well for the Thenardiers, and M. Thenardier found it easiest to choose a less-than-honorable way to make ends meet, bringing his whole family into a life of crime. They lived together in Gorbeau House, a boarding house, and that is where Eponine met the love of her life, Marius Pontmercy. Marius was a boy a few years older than her, and Eponine fell madly in love with him, though he never viewed her as more than a friend, remaining oblivious to her affections.
One day, while Eponine and Marius were together, Marius bumped into a young woman dressed in black with an older man beside her. Marius was instantly stricken, and demanded that Eponine do her best to find her. Eponine recognized the girl as a ghost from her past, Cosette, come back to haunt her. In an effort to keep Marius' attention, and to see him smile at her, Eponine lead Marius to the home where Cosette lived with her 'father'.
That same night, Eponine's father and the Patron-Minette, who had also recognized Cosette and her father, moved to rob the house. Eponine spotted them, and knowing that Marius was in the garden, stood up to her father, and screamed to warn Marius and the Fauchelevants that they were in danger. Patron-Minette scattered, and Valjean, Cosette's father, panicked, believing that his past as a convict and parole breaker had been discovered, promised to spirit Cosette away to England. Hearing this, Cosette left a letter for Marius, which Eponine intercepted.
Reading the letter, she learned of Valjean's plan, and knew what that if Marius ever received this letter, he would know where to find Cosette, and leave to live with her forever. Having nothing to live for if Marius was gone, she kept the letter from Marius. Believing that Cosette had abandoned him, Marius resolved to join the revolution that his fellow-students had been planning, with the express plans to get shot and die.
Luckily, Eponine had the same thing in mind for the both of them. Disguising herself as a boy, Eponine joined Marius at the barricade, deciding to get herself killed first, for Marius would certainly fall after. She saw her chance when a member of the French National Guard aimed a musket at Marius. Acting quickly, she grabbed the barrel of the gun, and turned it towards herself. The shot was fatal.
But not instantly. Not before Eponine had time to confess her feelings to Marius, and give him Cosette's letter. In turn, she asked for Marius to kiss her on the forehead after she died, which he obliged.
Strengths/Weaknesses: STRENGTHS: - Manipulative - Stealthy when she is in the mood for it - Screaming, she has a full set of pipes - Lying - Eponine can hold her liquor like few others can. - Wonderful at climbing anything, from trees to gates. - Very street smart - Tracking and stalking people.
WEAKNESSES: - Well, she's 5' 1'' and hardly weighs 90 pounds, so her physical size is quite a weakness. - Marius Pontmercy - Often lacks common sense - Unstable - Socially awkward, often unable to pick up social cues. - Doesn't know when to back down
Abilities: Eponine is literate, a somewhat rare quality for girls in her situation, and is very proud of this. She's a wonderful climber, and can steal and pick-pocket with the best. If you need someone to be found, feel free to ask Eponine.
Other than that, Eponine really has no special skills that would set her apart from the usual person on the street. She's an impoverished human girl who has learned to survive on the streets.
