Alax is a nuisance because he is basically useless to his village in human form. He can’t talk easily to help direct people or be on look out for anything and his motor skills lack the finesse needed for most daily tasks. His clumsiness has created a lot of problems in the past so he tends to stay out of the way, usually in his bird form. Examples include: Picking the crops, knocking over bowls of food and getting underneath other people’s feet and causing accidents.
Due to this inability in his human form is the reason he prefers to be in his bird form. As a bird, he has less responsibility and the tasks are much simpler and easy to do. He’s spent more in that form and therefore is more confident in his abilities; hence he knows he can do it. But there are problems with just being a bird. He cannot interact with his parents very easily, and if he was to reproduce then his options would be limited. The other problem lies in his exploration. If he explores too far and gets lost or hurt, none of his family would know and be able to rescue or save him. This is why he needs to learn to be a human as well as a bird.
First Person: [Alax steps off the train and looks around. He has no idea what had just happened or where he is but he was certain of one thing. He is nowhere near the village. Even with his extensive flying, he’s never seen anything like this before. It worries him.
Looking down, he sees the watch. He touches the face and it springs to life.]
Ahh...W-W-What are you? [He mutters, not realising what he had done. Picking up the watch, carefully, he decides to explore a little further until he comes to the exit from the station. Then he stares at all the buildings.] W-W-Where am I?
