When you first meet Nill in the manga, she's running away from two thugs after seemingly escaping a pimp trying to put her into a life of prostitution, something Nill doesn't want and despite the helpless situation, she tries to escape. She's not very strong physically, and without a voice she's very helpless, but she'll try her best nonetheless. Nill comes from a ruthless world, seen death and violence more than a 14 year old should, being one of the orphans experimented on in the underworld. (Girls like her can be worth a lot with certain animal body modifications, in her case she seems to have dove wings -- though in order to make this possible they'll steal one of your senses. For Nill, they took her voice, so she couldn't protest.) She's still a child. She fears, she gets overwhelmed with emotion, she cries - though, in a world like hers she's been forced to grow up way to early.
Nill knows the dark secrets of the underworld, and she's lived a life without all the sunshines and rainbows. She's never seen the sky before, and she knows how harsh the world can be. There's murder and crimes all over the place, and this is something Nill has most likely been forced to accept as things that happen and there is nothing much she can do to prevent it. She's a child forced into the adult life way too early, no signs of a proper childhood.
But for her age, Nill is a very understanding human being. She's kind by nature, sweet and caring and despite seemingly shy and a little awkward at first, she'll easily open up to anyone who returns her kindness. She creates a strong bond with Haine and Naoto -- even after seeing the brutality of their actions (even though it's thugs they kill, they kill them), she believes they do the right thing, believes they do what's necessary. Even when Naoto goes batshit and frightens Nill in the latest chapters, she shows concern when Naoto returns to herself later on. Even though Haine and Naoto have parts of themselves they can't control, Nill stays with them and trusts them with her life.
She proves to be a good listener and though she's unable to give advice, she will do her best to help her friends stop their suffering. Nill is quick to pick up the smallest quirks and habits, and she's easily able to figure out if something's wrong, proving to have a very strong insight and understanding of people and their emotions. She cares about her friends' well-beings, and takes this very seriously. Also, when Haine shies away from her in the beginning due to his minor gynophobia, Nill backs away, understanding. After this she takes her time, only touching and being close to Haine with his permission.
Nill doesn't have any special skill or power, nor is she strong, which makes her situation hopeless when she's in danger. She can't defend herself much, especially being mute, but if the situation calls for it she isn't one to back down. If her standing in the way is enough to help, she'll willingly do it. She isn't what you can call naïve, and though she can be tricked she will often be suspicious. Usually reading on people and their actions she's quick to judge, quick to form an opinion whether the person is "good" or "bad". But, if a person she trusts says they can be trusted, she'll blindly believe in them. However, she's quick to realize when she's wronged. For example, when the priest reveals himself to be one of the stray dog experiments as well, Nill is quick to keep her distance, realizing that he's different.
She is eager to learn, however. Nill is not one for sitting still, always trying her best even at the smallest chores like swiping the dust off the floors of the church. She's not as competent as she should have been, trying and failing at sewing a jacket full of bullet holes shut, but she does try her best to help where she can. If she's not good at it then, she'll practice to become better. Anything for the people she loves.
