I know this mind seem strange, but may I ask you to just expand a little bit on what you mean by personal motivating factors? I'll type up a paragraph here, but I'm not sure if it's exactly what you want.
Serah is motivated by her want to make the world a better place, and to ultimately save everyone that she can. She decides to become a teacher in order to help the future generations be able to live happily and informed, and she's a strict teacher because it was not only the way she was taught, but because it will help the kids she is teaching to become good adults and to be responsible in a town where everyone relies on each other. While her main goal when time travelling is to help Lightning, she wants to change the future as well, because she knows that currently, the future is not too bright. She knew that changing the future would kill her, but she was determined to keep going because she made a promise to her sister, and even if her time would be shortened, she knew it would make her and everyone around her happy to see Lightning again. While her attempts can both be small and grandiose, her decisions in life are made based on making others happy, and to make them better people in general.
