CHARACTER
Character Name: Rose Lalonde
Canon: Homestuck
Timeline: Post-death [Aged: mid-50s]
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: N/A

Personality: On the whole, this alpha universe version of Rose isn't terribly different from her beta counterpart. She tends to play the straight man in situations, although she's not immune to a little silliness now and again though it usually comes out by way of sarcasm. She's prideful but can admit to her own mistakes. Her snark is unmatched and dry sense of humor haven't changed despite the reset universe and the addition of forty two years. Her sincere love of wizards and the macabre also remained, as evidenced by her books.

Roxy considers Rose to be a distant, rather neglectful guardian. Little things she left behind for her daughter, such as bottle of alcohol and buckets, Roxy took as passive aggressive dares and jabs at her housekeeping. However, much like Rose's relationship with Roxy's pre-Scratch self, much of this is a big misunderstanding. Everything she left behind she did for a reason. With the use of her Vision Omnifold Rose knew that alcohol would slack Roxy's void abilities, therefore making it so UU could contact, keep track of and eventually give her details about Sburb. The buckets were for the inevitable fire that would break out when the Imperial Drones attacked. She is nothing if not thorough.

While she still retains a healthy amount of cynicism and rationality, Rose has more in common with her more mellow post-God Tier Beta self than closed off, embittered girl who covered her own insecurities with wit and big words that confused her friends. She's an adult, has seen a lot in her life and feels confident in herself and her abilities. She still uses long and complicated words but they're much less unusual coming from a fifty plus year old author than from a thirteen year old girl. Her distrustful nature when it comes to receiving kindness from other is also more lacking in the Alpha universe. Because she grew up without the (assumed) passive aggressive insincerity of her Beta mother, Rose is a little more accepting that people are actually being kind. Any distrust is mostly from general world wariness.

She's also more open than her pre-Scratch self. Where that Rose hid her notebooks from all eye but her own, this one freely published her works and became highly acclaimed for it. She's also kept her subtle, trollish sense of humor as evidenced by her boldness in even publishing Complacency of the Learned knowing full well the Condesce would catch wind of it and get nervous. Rose most surely enjoyed the idea of making the fish queen squirm.

History: In the Post-Scratch universe, Rose was "born" (i.e. landed with a meteor and destroyed some very nice building in the process) some time in either the late 1970s or early 1980s in upstate New York. She was put into foster care, being a strange meteor baby and all, but was quickly adopted by a nice couple. Along with Post-Scratch Dave, she was able to retain memories from the game and of her pre-Scratch self. This is what led to her writing her best-selling book series "Complacency of the Learned" as it was a work in progress in the precious universe.

As an adult she became famous for her books, which told the story of an androgynous young Wizard apprentice named Calmasis's efforts to kill the twelve elderly wizards led by Zazzerpan the Learned. The books (of which there were at least six volumes, each one quite long) were an enormous literary success on Post-Scratch Earth and she made an impossible fortune off them, to quote "More money than the U.S. financial system could even account for as legitimately circulating in the economy". There were rumors of real life "wytchkkrafts" being involved but nothing could be proven as there were never any criminal investigations into the matter. The books were also Rose's own special, passive aggressive middle finger to the Baroness.

Possessing the insider knowledge of a guardian and her retained pre-Scratch knowledge, Rose knew someday she would raise one of the heroes of this new Sburb session. She would prepare her daughter for her assigned role and do everything in her power to keep her safe until she was no longer needed as a guardian. Unfortunately, the opportunity never came. With both Dirk and Roxy's meteors inexplicably delayed for four centuries, Rose was a guardian with no charge. So she threw herself into her writing, penning tome after tome of CotL until Her Imperious Condescension finally decided to make an appearance on Earth.

When Guy Fieri rose to power as High Chaplain of Interstellar War and became responsible for the deaths of five billion people during the Hilarocaust, Rose had had enough. Although she couldn't repay his grave and many crimes, she could at least wipe the blood stained grin off his face. They faced off at Niagara Falls, which now flowed with blood.

She gouged out his eyes with a pair of knitting needles and rode his torso to the bottom of the falls.

According to many accounts that's where her story ends but this is not so. She and Dave regrouped and together went after the Batterwitch herself. They had nothing left to lose and if they were going to die what more heroic way than taking down the alien queen who had flooded the Earth? Sadly, she overpowered and killed both of them. Rose died after being stabbed in the side by the Condesce's 2x3dent, presumably bleeding to death.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
Strengths: Rose is incredibly fit for a woman. She was able to hold her own alone against a man at least twice her size and defeat him. She also has amazing accuracy with her knitting needles. As for non-physical strengths, she's incredibly intelligent and witty as all get out. Her books were saturated in passive aggressive snipes at the Batterwitch and Lord English.

Weaknesses: Rose's strong thirst for knowledge can be problematic. She'll drift away from people she cares about if she finds something that really ensnares her attention, much like when she was in cahoots with the horrorterrors in the Outer Ring in the Betaverse.

However, like any Sburb guardian, Alpha Rose's biggest weakness is her charge, Roxy. Even though she never got the chance to raise her, Rose still did everything in her power to make sure she would be able to survive, including leaving buckets around her house for the eventual fire that would break out in the carapace colony that would build itself around the structure. She would do near anything to ensure Rosy's safety, even give up her own life. A mother will do what's best for her children.

Abilities: According to Roxy, her mother was in possession of "Vision Omnifold". This is a direct parallel to her Seer class in the pre-Scratch universe and it was what enabled her to maintain a good number of Beta memories and how she came to realize the delay of Roxy and Dirk's meteors. It's also quite possible she had "wytchkkraft" powers, which may have contributed to the making of her vast fortune and is a direct reference to her pre-Scratch self's use of black magic.

Her primary weapons are knitting needles which, tethered to strings of yarn, she used to gouge out Guy Fieri's eyes. While it's up in the air whether it can be considered an ability, it's mentioned Rose's image frequently blacked out in photos taken by paparazzi. This is very likely related to her going grimdark in the previous session.

Relationships to Canon Characters:

Roxy Lalonde
: Rose is Roxy's ancestor and ectobiological daughter. Rose foresaw Roxy and Dirk's arrival with the meteors but realized she and Dave wouldn't live long enough to meet their charges. So she did what any mother would do: make sure her daughter would be prepared to survive without her.

Dave Strider: Rose's ecto-brother; his Alpha Universe self fought with her against Her Imperious Condescension and died with her.

Rose Lalonde: Her pre-Scratch self.

With her pre-Scratch self being a Seer, Rose 's memories of Jade, John and the events of Sburb are clearer than Dave's.

First Person:
“In sorrow we must go, but not in despair. Behold! we are not bound for ever to the circles of the world, and beyond them is more than memory.”
Hm, the afterlife isn't quite as I expected.
A leisurely train ride on my own with nothing but my knitting needles and a pocket watch. I was at least hoping to glimpse a set of pearly gates as cliche as it sounds.
Really, Dave, even after years of companionship you don't have the nerve to join me?

...Ah. It seems the watch has a voice to text function.
Talking to myself and quoting J.R.R. Tolkien just became a little more embarrassing.
But perhaps this means I'm not as dead as I assumed although the
To whom this may concern, hello.
My name is Rose Lalonde and I would like to know exactly where I am and how I got here.

Third Person: Rose thought she'd been prepared to die. That had been their plan: they'd either take down the Empress or die trying. She'd spent says mentally and emotionally preparing herself, physically training her aged but agile body to it's limits. This fight wasn't going to be the cakewalk, pardon the pun, that the High Chaplain had been. This was the grand alien sea witch Herself were facing. Realistically she and Dave didn't stand a chance, she knew that. But they had to try. Finally she'd put the few affairs she had left to take care of in order, set out the last few things for Roxy to eventually find and left her house for what she was sure would be the last time.

Rose was ready to die. What she wasn't ready for was the pain. The Baroness's 2x3dent had pierced her right side, skewering multiple organs in the process and she'd never experienced anything so agonizing in her life. A wet, involuntary gurgle that would have been a scream had her lungs not been quickly filling with blood escaped her lips. They'd lost, of course they'd lost, why had they been so foolish to believe they could beat her on their own?

Lavender eyes darted to the wounded man beside her. Dave stared back at her from behind his ever present shades. His lips moved but she couldn't make out his words. Her ears felt like they'd been stuffed with cotton as red pooled under her. She was cold, when had it gotten so cold? Rose swallowed a mouthful of blood that threatened to bubble up from between her lips and did the only thing that made sense to her at that moment as darkness began clouding the edges of her vision: she reached for her lifeline. Her hand twitched as she struggled to nudge it closer to him. It was the strangest déjà vu, her wanting so badly to have his hand in hers at the end of their lives. The darkness closed in on her before she felt his hand touch hers, before the Condesce drove his own sword through his torso and broke it in half. Rose was the lucky one.

And then she woke up. Rose's eyes flew open after what felt like only a few moments of being closed. A train? She hadn't been on a train in years. Her hand flew to her side. No wound, no blood, not even any real pain. How...curious.

"My afterlife is an eternal train trip. How anticlimactic."
