[CANON] Tony Stark ll Marvel ll Not reserved ll 2/?

Personality: Tony Stark isn't just fame, alchohol and pretty faces. Behind the glitz, the glamour and his show boating he is, in fact, a genius when it comes to tech and making weapons. Weapons may not be his forte anymore, as he seen the err of his ways and that his weaponry wasn't helping anyone (in fact it was doing quite the opposite) so he decided to leave that behind him and to do something better, to help people. That in itself is a foreign subject for the man, as he is an extremely introverted individual. He turns to energy, not only to help his fellow man but to better the planet. Two birds, one stone, right?

This change of heart (there is a pun there) came to him via a violent kidnapping during a weapons demonstration he was doing in Iraq for the American army. A violent kidnapping that left several shards of shrapnel working it's way to his heart. The terrorists couldn't allow this, so they employed- and by employed they forced another kidnapee? Dr. Yinsen to build an electromagnet to keep the shrapnel away from his heart. Then both he and Tony build a device, an arc reactor, to power said electromagnet, and they both build a suit of armor so they can escape, knowing the only thing left for them there is death, whether they build a weapon for the terrorists or not.

After his escape, Tony decided to turn his company around. No longer producing weapons but energy. A lofty goal that not everyone was in favor of. He made plenty of enemies with this change, some close to him, but with the aid of his Iron Man suit he desposes of these threats. He claims he and the suit are one, and it really does become a part of him. He makes several models and modifications. And ever the egoist, he announces to the media that yes he is, in fact, Iron Man.

This just opens another can of worms for the man, and a new threat is brought to his attention: himself. While his new energy sources are brilliant and inventive, he has many self destructive habits. He is an alcoholic, and he is rarely seen without a glass of something or other on him. He gets this from his father: Howard Stark, another genius of his own generation. The man who aided the great Captain America and provided weapons for the war. He was a womanizer in his own right and often ignored his wife and son for his creations, and he too was an alcoholic.

Like father like son.

The reactor in his chest is also killing him, giving him a sickness that is quickly draining his life away. He needed to find a new power source, and fast. His eyes were opened by SHIELD director and agent Nick Fury, who gave him some of his father's old things, along with quick remedies to keep him alive while he works on saving his own life. This is where we see how much of a genius Tony really is. Howard left subtle clues, and after studying his father's work and figuring the little mystery out, he manages to create a new element. A new element with incredible power and the ability to save his little conundrum.

That may have fixed one problem of his, but that doesn't take away the fact that he still is a self centered narcissist, often arrogant and cocky. These reasons kept him from being eligible for the Avengers initiative, to start. But when things got desperate? He was called in regardless. It shows that Tony really doesn't work well with others, often butting heads with Steve Rogers, the very Captain America that his father idolized and spent most of his life trying to find after the Captain's crash. Tony does get along with like minded folk, though, as seen with his fast friendship and understanding with Bruce Banner. Both scientists in their own right, they get along rather well.

But something Steve said really stuck it to Tony: that he would never do the sacrifice play, that he wasn't a real hero, that all that matters? Is himself. He only proves this wrong during the Chituari attack, where the battlefield was being threatened by a nuke. He sacrifices himself by grabbing it and manually directing it through the portal, thus hitting the mothership and taking down the scragglers on Earth. Tony very nearly dies during this, almost getting stuck in space as the portal between closes on him. But he gets by at the last minute, saved from plummeting to his death by the Hulk.

It shows that he is capable and that being teamed with the Avengers he learned to grow a little by the time they had, that is wasn't just about him. He is still self centered, arrogant and he uses sarcasm and humor to deflect from serious situations. But he is still the hero he claims to be, and will continue to be so.
