APPLICATIONS

✗ Applications are processed weekly, every weekend. The cut-off time for the submission of applications is 11:59PST on Saturday.
✗ Before applying, please read the FAQ and Rules pages.
✗ Please submit your application with the journal you plan to use if you have one made already. If not, another journal is fine, but we prefer your intended journal so it makes for an easier time in granting access to the mod journal and the contacts page.
✗ For very long applications, we would ask you to please separate them into various comments so that they will not take up too much of the page.

Background: Here is where we would like to see information about your character's history and their place within their canon. This can be written if you wish, or you can link to any wikis and relevant resources.
 
Abilities: Is your character an accomplished carpenter? Can they shoot laser beams from their eyes or travel through time? If they possess any abilities, learned or otherwise, they need to go in this section.
 
Network/Actionspam Sample: This is the format that will be used in rubycity_rp and must be in action form (brackets). We are looking for a minimum of 6 to 10 lines that give us an idea of how your character speaks/acts. This sample may be linked, either from a musebox, different game or our test drive, provided that the linked example was written within the last six months.

This sample must be in prose format (paragraphs, no brackets) and should show character reactions/introspection. Appearance: The sorts of things included in this section should be the character’s height, build, clothing style, hair, accessories. As well as their general posture and mannerisms as well, like quirks or vocal tics.
Chosen PB: First come, first serve. Please check the taken PB page. You are also welcome to use your own or commissioned art, or icons that do not depict your characters face but facets of their personality as well.
Items with character at canon point: Tell us what your character has with them at the point you have pulled them from - this includes any animal companions.

Personality: This should be self explanatory. However, when discussing personality please include why they have particular personality traits, how this effects their lives and interactions. Please provide us with insight to your character and their behaviour, their likes, dislikes and fears, as well as your understanding of them. We would also like to see details of your character's strengths and weaknesses, which may include physical, psychological and emotional. The minimum will be three well-written paragraphs, but you should be able to write more.

World Information: Please go as in depth as you can about the world. There is no wiki or website for us to reference, and we need to know as much as we can about the place your character comes from so that we can understand the character when reviewing the application.

History: Your characters’ history in their world. Be sure to be detailed. This section should be a minimum of three paragraphs.

A note for CR AU applications
Ruby City does allow previous game history/CR to be brought over on a case by case basis. If you want to include this in your application please add additional sections for PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT and PREVIOUS GAME HISTORY beneath the Personality and Background/History sections.

In these additional sections we would like to see a brief outline of your character's previous game history and how it potentially impacted on and altered their canon personality.

First Person:

[Cloud gave a nod of thanks to Tifa as she passed him the drink. It was good to see her again, even if the stern look on his face didn’t show it. He could still feel her warmth from when she hugged him when he walked in.

He picks up the glass and swishes it in his hand, watching the whiskey run through the ice cubes. That look on her face when he mentioned Corneo had him concerned. Did something happen in there? Was he too late? If his being pulled to this place kept him from keeping his promise to her, there was going to be hell to pay both here AND back home.

He downs the glass quick, forcing himself to keep a straight face as he swallows the harsh liquor.]

Tifa, what is this place? And why are people saying Sephiroth is here too?

Third Person:

Cloud walked down the street towards the Black Stallion Saloon. He was finally out of that dress, and the guy who had given him these new clothes told him that Tifa could be found here. As he adjusted the suspenders on the SOLDIER uniform, he mulled over the situation he was in. This town was a strange one; it clearly wasn’t Midgar, but it didn’t look like any he’d been to before. It was too well developed for a town out in the boonies. There didn’t seem to be a Mako reactor nearby, so there had to be SOMETHING here to justify it. This didn’t seem like a ShinRa plot, but if they weren’t in charge here, who could possibly have the power or money to set this up?

And then there was that other SOLDIER he met. Zack? Cloud didn’t remember meeting anyone like him back in his own SOLDIER days. Maybe it was before his time? After? And why did he seem so familiar? And what was this talk about Sephiroth being in town? He died in the Mako Reactor during the Nibelheim incident when-

Anyone watching would have seen Cloud stumble and lean heavily against the wall of the building he was walking past, clutching his head. For Cloud, this pain was there and gone in a flash, forgotten even faster and taking that last thread of questions with it. He looked up at the signboard of the building he was leaning against.

The Black Stallion.

Tifa’s here. She helped get him on his feet when he came back to Midgard and got him some merc jobs. She’d be able to help him here too. He walked to the door and stepped inside.

After careful review of your application and revisions, we have decided not to accept your application at this time. This decision is due to a multitude of factors, primarily the fact that even after revising your Personality section, you do not seem to have a firm grasp on your character's inner workings. Additionally, the writing samples you provided still do not provide what we feel is an adequate example of his voice.

I was wondering if you could point out or at least narrow down the problem point on his personality. I understand that the canon point I'm taking him from causes issue, especially as his personality does change after disc 2, and again in the retcon that was engineered during the production of Advent Children. I'd just like to know what you feel is missing. Thanks.

The issue we had with the Personality section in this application stemmed primarily from its brevity and lack of depth; Cloud is a remarkably complex character, a deep thinker and a character with so much of his personality tied to his background and that of his game as a whole that the sample provided was overall insufficient.

Additionally, we felt that neither of the writing samples provided showed an adequate grasp of his voice and/or behavior.

If you'd like to perhaps canon review and try again, you are of course free to do so! All we ask is that you wait the standard two weeks before doing so, which ought to give you plenty of time to get a better feel for the character.

Okay, I just wanted to check in. I agree completely with your own assessment of him, but I guess the way I was approaching it didn't show that off well. I'll take some time to deal with some things coming up offline and perhaps try again in September.
