EVENT: Trousers of Time

On Friday, June 23, Ruby City is going to be party to yet another weird happening. This one, though, is a little more expansive than previous events have been. Your lucky characters are going to have access to other worlds! At least for a little while.

ICly, the Trousers of Time event will start not with a bang but with a whimper--or rather a strange coincidence. Sometime the morning of the 23rd, your character will open a door to somewhere totally normal, like the bathroom, and find themselves staring into a portal. Unfortunately, they've already put one foot forward, so . . . guess they're falling through!

They'll find themselves in one of the worlds that once was the home of a character in Ruby City. For example, someone in the Tolkien cast might end up in Night Vale! Yikes. These portals, or Tears, will only remain open for a short amount of time, the duration of which can be anything from minutes to hours at player discretion. Your character will be yanked back to Ruby City when the Tear closes, so there's no danger of being left behind.

They can, however, bounce back to Ruby City with items from the worlds they've visited! Up to three new items, in fact, and that includes weapons--anything that's not gamebreaking. You're welcome to include items your characters would have deliberately picked up while in other worlds, as well as items they wouldn't have chosen but you OOCly want them to have.

Speaking of OOC, here's how this event works on a player level! Obviously every player won't be familiar with every canon in the game. As such, please fill out the form below to give your fellow players a brief description of your character's world as well as some ideas on how to play around in them. We strongly encourage plotting on this post! If you have canonmates and they get to the world description first, feel free to add your thoughts.

Don't be shy of asking your fellow players further questions. In addition, don't feel you have to get other people's canons perfect--just have fun with the information you have and have fun worldhopping!

Fill me out!

Canon Name: Tolkien's Legendarium
World Name: Arda- continent of Aman- city of Tirion upon Tuna
Canon description in ten words or less: Paradise on earth, illuminated by magic Trees
Technology level: High fantasy medieval as interpreted by aesthetics-conscious mad scientists, with elements of steampunk.
Wildlife: Aman is implied to have just about every animal in existence, though in Tirion itself you'd probably see animals most often found in cities.
Sentient species: Elves, possibly some visiting Ainur (divine spirits)
What might daily life be like for those in this world? Tirion is beautiful, wildly prosperous, and possibly the most intellectually innovative place on the planet. There's a wide range of physical, artistic, and intellectual pursuits to enjoy, and most people have the security and leisure to pursue their own interests.
What might a character entering this world encounter first? Spectacular architecture, art, and artists' workshops. There would also be a lot of musicians, although with a few prominent exceptions the Noldor musicians aren't considered as skilled as those of other elven kindreds.
What might a character encounter while exploring? The political scene in Tirion is always a bit heated, due to the ongoing soap opera that is the royal family. Listen in, and you might recognize some of the names they're arguing about.
What dangers might a character encounter? None, Aman's a pretty safe place. Unless you were to leave Tirion and Valinor altogether and go south looking for giant demonic spiders, but why would you want to do that?
Other important details: At this point in time, the Sun and Moon have not been created yet. The continent of Aman is lit by two giant trees, one golden (Laurelin) and one silver(Telperion)By day the sky is golden, by night it's silver, and at dawn and dusk the lights mingle together.
An artist's representation of the city can be found here.

Canon Name: Tolkien's Legendarium
World Name: Arda- The Helcaraxe (The Grinding Ice)
Canon description in ten words or less: The Bering Land bridge with extra Siberia
Technology level: Primitive and improvisational
Wildlife: Mostly artic animals: seals and walruses, polar bears, arctic foxes, reindeer, etc.
Sentient species: Elves. Mostly freezing, and in a very bad mood.
What might daily life be like for those in this world? An endless daily struggle for your own and others' survival.
What might a character entering this world encounter first? A large band of elves (40,000-60,000) traveling east across it.
What might a character encounter while exploring? Arctic tundra, snow, pain, and misery
What dangers might a character encounter? Starvation, freezing to death, and falling through cracked ice and drowning would be among the obvious ones.
Other important details: Once again, the Sun and Moon do not exist. The Helcaraxe is lit only by stars, campfires, and the collective bad mood of the Noldor attempting to cross it.
Also: this place is terrible, don't go there.
