A note for CR AU applications
Ruby City does allow previous game history/CR to be brought over on a case by case basis. If you want to include this in your application please add additional sections for PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT and PREVIOUS GAME HISTORY beneath the Personality and Background/History sections.

In these additional sections we would like to see a brief outline of your character's previous game history and how it potentially impacted on and altered their canon personality.

CHARACTER
Character Name: Orphaner Dualscar
Canon: Homestuck
Timeline: Post Death.
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: This is only to be used if are already playing another character from the canon you are applying for. For example, if you are apping Mario and you already play Princess Peach in the game, how will you handle their interactions without playercesting? Depending on your answer, you may be refused the character you are apping for.

Personality: It’s important to note that while Eridan Ampora is Dualscar’s descendant, that does not necessarily make them the same person. They’ve lived completely different lives and grown differently as characters, but they still share the same core traits. Thanks to a life of inherent superiority, they’ve grown up as haughty, arrogant and elitist characters. However, Dualscar has lived a longer life and has had a substantially longer time to brood over things. As such, his bitterness is deeper set, while Eridan’s is more a façade for the attention of other’s.

Ranking is essential to Dualscar’s life. He finds joy in order and will argue and fight against anyone who tries to undermine his beliefs. He feels uncomfortable when people point out flaws or mistakes and covers his anxiousness with snark and denial. He’s incredibly stubborn when it comes to such things and it’s unlikely that he’ll ever accept facts or opinions that don’t reflect his own. To him, there’s no reason to argue when it should be obvious that he’s right and that’s argument enough to back up any claims he has.

He doesn’t have much of a sense of humour (which doesn’t endear him to the subjuggulators). In fact, he finds jokes bothersome and irritating. This might be because he has a difficult time distinguishing between whether someone is being serious or kidding around and he has little patience for people who aren’t straight forward. It’s embarrassing not to understand them straight away and he takes jibes to himself personally and thus, becomes agitated and cagey. However, he is capable of sarcasm and the occasional grim snark at someone else’s misfortune. The angriest he gets is when he believes he’s being made a mockery of. It’s clear he’s got his share of insecurities to hide despite his social ranking.

While he’s quick to dismiss things that irritate him or opt out of arguments out of frustration, he will brood on it for hours. He has a tendency to dwell on the past and mull over conversations had and conversations he could have. He often invents situations in which he’s conflicted with others, which causes him to both be wary of them and beat them to their inevitable betrayal by snapping first. He’s quick to make assumptions of other’s based upon their blood and appearance and rarely hangs around long enough to discover if they’re true. People close to him are either insanely persistent or simply there because of social eloquence. As such, he’s extremely lonely.

His appearances are important to him, because he wants to reflect a personality that is formidable and powerful. He dresses as someone who is nothing short of proud in regards to his blood colour. He takes a long time to attend to himself and primp himself and loathes being seen in a dishevelled state. He’s early to bed and early to rise and seldom lingers around the company of others unless they give him good reason. That being said, just because he cares for appearance doesn’t make him any less powerful or dangerous. You touch his cape, he will cut a bitch.

In troll society, weaknesses such as prioritising appearance over strength will not get you far. Dualscar is aware of this, and he spends as much time training and preparing for battle as he does getting dressed. He’s a strategist by nature and he’s skilled at formulating practical and successful battle plans. He takes his time to sit back and weigh the odds in his favour, making under handed moves before he strikes and takes all he can from the battle. He’s a ruthless fighter, which is to be expected. His morals are loose, but can we really consider that important when it comes to trolls?

Even if he’s not Mr. Niceguy, he believes in formalities and eloquence. He can either be painfully and almost cruelly concise or long winded and boring when speaking. He has a tendency to drone on when he gets started, garnishing his sentences with an extended vocabulary so as to put on an air of class even when arguing. However, blood colour will determine how he speaks to you. He’s much quicker to snap to a nastier, less formal tone with a low blood than he ever would be with a highblood. When he does snap, he relies heavily on swearing and threats to get his points across.

Perhaps, even by troll standards, he’s a bit of a dick. He expects the most and the best from everyone. He expects mutual feelings from others while he’s burdened by his affections for the Empress. He seldom returns the expectations he sets out of carelessness and selfishness. He becomes possessive of Mindfang and aggressive toward her low blooded interests, all the while aware that he has other flushed interests. He expects total devotion and yet seems to believe he should be able to do as he pleases, it’s within his rights. He’s impatient and wishes for results and answers straight off the bat, he rarely gives things time to settle or grow before he interferes.

He’s haunted by his own weakness and becomes defensive quite quickly; you can pretty much assume he’s always got his little barricade up and about. He seldom talks openly about his emotions as he deems them far too pathetic. If you do point them out, you will need to prepare for the tongue lashing of a lifetime and an inevitable death. Really though, deep down he’s got a romantic soul and he yearns for mutually flushed feelings. He expresses his positive feelings through loyalty and dedication. After all, he kept all he knew about Mindfang hidden up until she wouldn’t return his flushed feelings. One could speculate that those feelings came to be because the pirate grew on him, it’s unlikely that anyone had ever gotten so close to him until he met her and he’d gotten accustomed to the idea of having her around. However, it’s possible he only felt that way out of a need to control and tame her and not out of something pure.

It would appear that he wears his heart on his sleeve, even if he tries to hide his less favourable feelings. Mindfang was well aware of his feelings for the Empress and he did little to hide his jealousy when coming across her and her slave. Once again, he will fiercely deny any accusations and his temper will flare. He’s clearly sensitive and it pains him to know it. While he relies so heavily on social status and power, he’s riddled with self-doubt and insecurities. If a red-rom is what he desires, why should it be so difficult to acquire? It is perhaps his over zealousness in that sense that makes him undesirable as a mate, even if pity is the basis for a relationship.
As well as being a strategist, he’s also a collector by nature. He collects land, treasure, maps and even trolls. He’d had quite bit of land dominated and more than enough treasure under his belt before he learned to scrutinise. He slowly became more judgmental and careful about what he kept, discarding or abandoning things that didn’t seem unique or rare. He’s quite proud of his collection. When he acquired Dolorosa, he viewed her as a rarity and something precious because of her blood, but still treated her as an underling. He was certain Mindfang was out to snatch her from him; he hadn’t figured she would be after the jade blood in a romantic sense. That was a nasty surprise for him.

[FANDOM OC] Orphaner Dualscar | Homestuck | Reserve

[personal profile] shellfishlovver 2012-06-30 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
History: Due to the Ancestors having such a vague past, assumptions are often made in regards to what positions and personalities they possessed in their time. We can judge these sorts of things by the characters they associate with, the traits that are most predominant in their descendants and even minor elements such as their appearance and garments.

For someone so high in the caste system, it’s unsurprising that Dualscar’s loyalties lie with both the Empress and the Empire. Why would one be inclined to fight a system that only benefits them?
His flushed feelings for the Empress are no secret, though the reasons behind them are never elaborated upon. Perhaps it seems only right for the female of the highest caste to choose a suitor from the second highest caste, another thing Dualscar would not argue against. He desires what he perceives as his blood rights and he persues what he believes he deserves.

He seems the sort to maintain order, seeing as order is a reoccurring theme through his life. Everything is based on rank and everything is judged by power. The Highbloods are stronger, more powerful and guaranteed to live longer, so it’s only right that they should hold the reigns. With the two highest castes belonging to sea dwellers, the authority of Alternia belongs to those on the seas. Were he the highest caste, Dualscar would fancy himself the ruler of the sea, but will instead settle for ruler of the waves. From his garb, it seems obvious that he’s in an official position of power. His cape, armor and metals worn as decoration indicate an illustrious sort of career. It seems unlikely that a pirate would dress in such a manner, though personal grooming and appearance is key to him. An admiral or general is a far more befitting assumption for our Dualscar. Not to say he was necessarily a just and fair man of the military, it is probable that he would be more than a little corrupt. Even prone to the occasional (frequent) abuse of power and the use of underhanded methods to stake claim on lands and treasure. All in the name of the empire, mind you. Far be it from Dualscar to so selfishly take whatever he pleases. (haha.)

Though, in a society built around hate, fear and inevitable death it’s hardly surprising. In Alternia, you do what you can to survive, even if that means sticking your feet in people’s faces and stabbing them in the back. Dualscar would have to fight tooth and claw to remain the head of his fleet. This would probably call for the occasional culling of a crew member to keep the men sprightly and on their toes. All he asks for is total devotion, loyalty and the utmost respect for him. Whatever he’s doing, it’s to keep himself at the top. He strives to be the best, to be the most impressive, the most powerful, the richest and the one with the firmly filled quadrants. The last one seemed a hopeless cause for a good many sweeps, until he met someone who saw through all of his barriers of intimidation and hatred.

Now, if we refer back to pirates, we can begin to discuss his glorious kismesitude with Marquise Spinneret Mindfang. Mindfang is the very essence of the corruption Dualscar indulges in. While he is rigid and strict, she is wild and free. The two would have more than a few reasons to clash when it came to claiming land and serving the Empire. As a free spirit, Mindfang was inclined to do whatever she pleased, which surely did Dualscar no favours. Somehow, the two of them managed to tangle together in a black romance, which Dualscar was more than happy to foster. However, when he opened his lonely heart to such passion, he slowly allowed flushed feelings to creep in. When this mixed with the jealousy Mindfang’s rebellion caused, his emotions became more twisted and he acted out, killing his romantic rivals.

Naturally, he was turned down for a mutually flushed relationship and he sought revenge through means other than his own. For a long time, he allowed Mindfang to slip through his fingers despite her crimes toward Alternia. Until now, he felt it was fair as long as he could keep tabs on her. Now, too ashamed by her lack of interest to show his face and too bitter to allow her to live on, he visits the Highblood with everything he knows about her. She would no longer be his problem.

This doesn’t end well for him, probably because of how stuffy and disrespectful he is. The Highbloods would have no interest in what he had to say, they only wish to make a joke of him. From where I’m taking him, his pride will just barely be intact, but he won’t be dead. He’ll be self-assured in the fact that the lower-bloods who trifled with him will have suffered a suitable death and he will be none too pleased to see Mindfang alive and kicking.

Strengths/Weaknesses: Strengths:
Physical: As a highblood and a seadweller he's both physically powerful and blessed with longevity. He can breathe and function underwater and prefers it to land, he moves quicker when he's swimming. As an Orphaner he's a particularly skilled hunter and marksman with his crosshairs, he will always bring in the best kill. His blood status also makes him more or less immune to Mindfang's mind tricks, but that isn't to say he can't be mentally manipulated in other ways.

Mental: He's well read and intelligent and he puts a lot of thought behind most actions, when it comes to battle. He's persistent and often has the patience to wait for things to come his way. He does quite a bit of research to back up his choices and, as such, he has an enthusiasm for history.

Weaknesses::
Physical: While it's not confirmed, it's possible that he is not quite so fast on land as he is underwater. Water is his natural habitat, so existing on land may cause small but irritating problems for him.

Mental: Dualscar is somewhat restrained by what he beliefs is right and wrong, he isn't very open minded and he desires order. That being said, he's fairly easy to manipulate since he's lets his emotions rule him. He has a habit of underestimating others because he believes he's better from the start.

Abilities: As previously mentioned, he’s an excellent strategist and a man hardened by battle. He’s skilled at formulating effective plans, he can draw up maps and reference history books if need be. His long term memory is great, but his short term memory leaves much to be desired. Occasionally he can forget his intentions midway through an argument or he’ll forget tricks Mindfang has already played on him.
As a troll he has levelled up strength and agility and a longer life span. As a sea dweller he has gills, expanding organs and fins for swimming and breathing underwater. He’s slightly more graceful underwater than he is on land, but that isn’t to say he’s any less of a threat. A land dweller would not want to engage him in a sea battle. Due to his connection to the sea, he can become cagey and uncomfortable if parted from it for long periods of time.
He’s been wielding his cross hairs for as long as he can remember, he’s an adept marksman and his gun is his most valued weapon. He’s capable of combat without it, obviously, but he will lament the lack of it. In close range his claws, fists and anything he can get his hands on become his weapons. He’s strong, but he isn’t the strongest troll. If someone such as The Grand Highblood challenged him to a fist fight, he would have to rely more on wit than brawn.

Relationships to Canon Characters:
Mindfang: His former kismesis. The two were infamous for their black romance until Dualscar began to develop flushed feelings that he eventually confessed to. The relationship was built on mutual benefit and snark and Dualscar is confused as to how he really feels about her.
Her Imperious Condescension: It's implied by Mindfang that he's flushed for her, and it's possible considering their descendants. As someone loyal to the empire and second highest in ranking it seems fitting that he would desire her.
The Helmsman: It's possible he had a hand in getting him his job as the Helmsman. Though he probably detests anyone who interests the Empress more than Dualscar himself, he doesn't really know him.
Grand Highblood: Killed by him because he couldn't think of a funny joke, thinks he's ridiculous but had the nerve to attempt to use him in order to rid himself of Mindfang's scorn.
The Dolorosa: Has an intense dislike for her, coupled with jealousy. She was getting in the way of his relationship with Mindfang so he had her killed.

Eridan Ampora:His descendant whom he has had no direct contact with. However, it's said that an Ancestor will leave hints for their Descendant and help them follow their path, the only clear indication of this is that Eridan wields his crosshairs and roleplays Dualscar with a passion. That being said, Eridan himself is quick to give it away and replace it with his new weapon.

First Person: So, I'm not alone in my confusion, correct?
Right.
First off, I wwant to knoww the name an' rank a evvery troll in this place.
If you wwere so blind as to believve the caste system wwould go to shit because a different circumstances, you can think again.
Wwe wwill not conform to the livves of humans. To do so is to betray your heritage and to become the scum a the univverse.
Honestly, wwhy anyone would desire such a short, confusin' existance is beyond me.
Second. I'd noticed that it's not just the idiots I'd become accustomed to, but wwe are noww in possession of a second set a wwrigglers?
Fascinatin'.

For those of you born swweeps to late to knoww the glory a our time, I am Orphaner Dualscar an' you wwill refer to me as such.
It's a pleasure for all a you, I am sure.

Third Person: The sound of Dualscar's boots clicking against the stone floors is the only thing stopping an eerie silence from falling over the darkened caves. There's a dim light in the distance, but it serves little comfort to the troll as he walks. The further he walks forward, the closer the figure on the chair becomes. He feels small, standing in the other troll's presence, so he does not kneel. The blood smeared on the walls in rainbow patterns and queer faces sends a shiver of disgust down his spine.

The next parts are a blur. He argues and he freezes. Suddenly words do not come so easily. A joke should be so simple, right? Such a foolish request, and yet, Dualscar could not even open his mouth. The light behind the other troll seems to shine brighter as he stands, the patterns becoming swirls as Dualscar's eyes struggle to focus. A spiked club raises and Dualscar's heart stops, the moment seeming to freeze almost entirely before it all comes crashing down. The club collides, the pain burns and suddenly Dualscar sees the world through violet coloured glasses before a cold rush of air fills his lungs.

One deep breath is followed by a few short, sharp ones as Dualscar begins to realise his surroundings. Had that all been a dream? He shakes his head, trying to focus again as he glances around. Nope. Actually. Looking around himself is making this worse. His body is shaking and he feels sick to stomach as he buries his face in his hands and shuts his eyes for a moment. He regrets that choice as soon as he makes it, when he closes his eyes all he can see is that twisted, painted face and all he can hear is the booming echo of his laugh. It wasn't just his skull that had been shattered, it was his pride.

Curious as this contraption was, he wasn't sure if he wanted to know where he was being taken, but he supposes he's about to find out as the train rolls to a stop. He wills his shaking legs to stand as he steps toward the doors, shouldering his crosshairs to wedge out of the train. He inhales sharply, trying to earn the courage to step onto the platform. The breeze rustles his hair as he peers out the door and he scowls into the empty platform.

If a troll stays on a train and nobody is there to see him, would anyone notice?

CHARACTER
Character Name: The Psiioniic
Canon: Homestuck
Timeline: During his service as the Helmsman, but before his death.
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: N/A

Personality: Psiioniic is both similar and dissimilar to his descendant (and clone), Sollux. The two are extremely similar, but due to living in different times and in different circumstances, the two have developed differently.

One of the traits he shares with Sollux is duality. He didn’t spend quite as much time over come with self-loathing once he freed himself from bondage, but he was still remarkably temperamental, and it didn’t take much to send him into a fit of rage. Despite these fits, he was still mostly nonviolent, and he did believe that kindness is a good way to rebel. While his snarkiness and snippiness might not have automatically translated to some as kindness, he preferred teasing (not always as gentle as it could be) and playful barbs versus the cloying sweetness of his cohorts. He has a different brand of affection, and he likes it that way.

Not to say he never disliked anyone, and not to say he’s never got upset or depressed. Psiioniic could be overcome with bitterness, and an unbearable amount of anger and rage towards the hierarchy of Alternia, and the oppression faced by so called “low”blood trolls. Sometimes, though the occasions became rarer and rarer, he was so overcome by his loathing and despair he would doubt the success of the rebellion the Signless was leading, and he couldn’t help but dwell on how futile dismantling the caste system seemed to be. He learned how to drag himself out of these bleak moments, due mostly to the kind, yet stern, teachings of the Dolorosa.

He is remarkably stubborn, and was never one to back down from a fight. Of course, not all fights are or were serious, and he didn’t always pick his battles wisely. He would always react poorly to losing, whether it was a fist fight or a battle of wits, and he would spend hours or days sulking over it. (He insisted it wasn’t sulking, but he’d occasionally spend hours imagining how it they should have gone and how it was unfair, so on and so forth.)

While he does snark, and insults and jabs coming to him quite naturally, he’s not really the best at talking about things like gratitude or how he feels (without being sarcastic, at least). He prefers to show affection with things like small gifts or notes. Anything he can leave with the person and then leave without having to see their reaction first hand. He’s not shy, really, just easily flustered and always afraid that people will react negatively to his sincerity. It’s one of the few nasty thoughts that appears for him most often – that everyone secretly hates him and wants him gone. That’s why he’s hesitant to be sincere or kind in the first place, as he believes it will help the pain of losing them be less severe. He’s afraid of losing everyone he holds dear, because it’s always been such a very real possibility. He’s had to prevent himself from becoming close to other slaves, and holding friendships isn’t something he could say he’s very skilled at. He tries, though, even if he doesn’t find himself very successful.

It all didn’t help, though. He lost everyone who mattered to him, and was taken by Her Imperious Condescension. He was locked inside of, and has centuries and millennia of anger and bitterness to get out of his system as soon as possible so he can get back to normal.

History: The Psiioniic was raised a slave, which was common for trolls of his blood color and of his psychic abilities, and for the time he was raised in. He was one of the strongest psychics at the time, but he managed to keep the full extent of his powers unknown to the slave keepers as he worked. The labor was still hard, and his life was still incredibly painful and filled with suffering. After all, he was a yellow blood. There were two castes below him, yes, but there were eight above him. He had to serve them, and his psionic abilities were useful, but they were not the only ones he had. He could hear the voices of the dying sometimes. Not the dead, no, but the voices of those that were well on the way to their graves. It was something he tried to ignore, because his masters didn’t like him pausing in his work to think on the voices he heard.

It wouldn’t be his abilities, or his curses as he would sometimes call them, that would inspire him to escape from his life of bondage. It would be a troll, who wasn’t even on the hemospectrum - a mutant, with blood that was far too red to be natural, and who had no sign. The Signless, or Sufferer as he would later be known to his followers, before being erased from history completely, had radical ideas of equality between bloods, that color should not dictate someone’s worth in society. These ideas were so absurd, and so just plain impossible, that any sane troll should have ignored him. But the Psiioniic was intrigued. He couldn’t deny that freedom and equality were appealing, something that he had longed for, and he escaped from slavery to join the troll without a sign and the jade blood troll who had raised him from grubhood, who was known as the Dolorosa. There was also a green blooded troll called the Disciple, who wrote down all of the Signless’ visions and teachings.

Together, the four trolls travelled Alternia, spreading the Signless’ message of acceptance and equality. Not all trolls were accepting, but some were. They were sparking a rebellion. Alternia was almost on the brink of a revolution. Displeased, the Empress lashed out. The four were captured, and split up. The Signless was publicly tortured and executed, earning the name Sufferer, and the Disciple was to be executed as well, but the executioner showed mercy on her and she fled with the remains of Signless’ clothing. The Dolorosa was sold into slavery. And the Psiioniic went into service for Her Imperious Condescension herself. During his time with the Signless’ group, he proved his power again and again. He caught the attention of the Empress. So instead of going to work for just any other highblood, Her Imperious Condescension chose him to work as her Helmsmen, so he would power her battleship. This made it the fastest in the fleet, and she thanked him by gifting him with life.

He wasn’t supposed to live more than forty or fifty sweeps, and now he’s lived for several hundred as a living spaceship.

Strengths/Weaknesses: Extremely powerful psychic, so he is mentally strong as far as intelligence goes. He can be rather emotionally unstable, and is physically weak compared to other trolls. He is still stronger, or at least more durable, than a human.

Abilities: Psionics – includes telekinesis. He can mentally lift and move very large objects at high speeds with some exertion, power a fully functioning battleship, shoot energy blasts, and hear the voices of those pre-death as a sort of auditory vision/hallucination.

Relationships to Canon Characters: Sollux Captor: Psiioniic’s descendent, and his paradox clone. They are essentially the same person.

The Signless/Sufferer: A troll that led a rebellion for equality. He inspired the Psiioniic to escape from slavery. They travelled and lived together and were extremely close.

The Dolorosa: A friend of the Psiioniic’s, they travelled together with the Signless.

The Disciple: Another close friend. She was in love with the Signless, and travelled with him and the rest of his posse.

Her Imperious Condescension: The empress of Alternia, and bane of Psiioniic’s existence. She is directly or indirectly responsible for the deaths of all of his friends, and grafted him into her ship and extended his life far, far beyond its natural life span.

First Person: Requesting information on location.
I am Helmsman of Battleship Condescension.
I am a part of the Alternian fleet and I cannot sense any others.

Third Person: There is something to say about being about to use your limbs. It’s something people take for granted, he’s sure. Being able to sit down and wiggle your toes and just simple, silly things like that. Things that pretty much anyone can do, but that he hadn’t done in…

He wasn’t even sure how long it had been. He wasn’t sure when sweeps had stopped meaning anything, and time meant nothing anymore. After a while, everything started running together, just a never ending mash of space and flight and pain.

For now, though, he could focus on the little things. Like his toes! He hadn’t seen his toes in so long. He had almost forgotten what toes looked like. He had definitely had forgotten what grass felt like, considering the ship was half-flooded. The Psiioniic – and it was so good to call himself that, because he wasn’t the Helmsman anymore, was he? There was no ship for him to be the helm of, anymore… The Psiioniic curled his toes in the grass, and grinned to himself. He was happy for now. He had gotten over the initial fear and confusion of being in this city with its squishy pink residents.

He had plans today, with these squishy pink residents. Well, these plans were just waiting for one of those residents to come talk to him so he could interrogate them on their way of life, because he found them to be endlessly fascinating.

CHARACTER
Name: Loki Laufeyson
Canon: Marvel Cinematic Universe
Timeline: Right after the Avengers movie
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: NA

Personality:

The most apt explanation of Loki’s character is when Bruce Banner in the recent Avengers film said that his mind was “…a box of cats. You can smell crazy on him.” That is exactly what he is. Crazy and slightly megalomaniac with a healthy sprinkling of daddy issues and sibling envy. Of course finding out that you are not only adopted, but are one of the very creatures your society demonizes and then having your dad fall asleep in the middle of the “You’re adopted, but we still love you” talk probably had something to do with at least 3/4s of that description.

Loki has a long memory and is defiantly the type to hold a grudge. He remembers everything everyone has done to him, real or imagined, and he will eventually get even. This can be a driving force in his schemes. Thor notes in the Avengers that Loki most likely took Eric Selvig not only because of his scientific knowledge, but also because of his friendship with Thor. Thor is the extreme case where we see how far Loki is willing to go to make those he believes have wronged him pay.

Everything he does in the two movies he has appeared in he believes is good and justified. In Thor destroying an entire world was his way of proving to his father that he was a capable son, that he could protect Asgard as well as, if not better, than his brother. When he is trying to take over earth during the Avengers he constantly insists it is for mankind’s good, to save them from themselves. Of course his latent need to one-up Thor also plays into his need to prove he could be a good ruler.

So, while he is not a meaningless malignity, he is far from a good guy. He has no problem tearing down those who get in his way. He will use his talents in magic and his silver tongue to get whatever he needs, pesky morals need not apply. His actions always have motive behind them, even if the motive is ‘It sounded fun’ or ‘Because I wanted to’. As an example, when he is giving a reason for letting the Frost Giants into the weapons vault in Thor he claims that it "was just a bit of fun", citing keeping Thor off the throne as almost an after thought.
There is a chance his more evil intentions could mellow out if someone were able to get through to him that he has little, if nothing to actually be vengeful about, but that would take a very special person who would have to take the time to both win over his trust and also get to a point where he sees them as enough of an equal to take their advice. Loki is prideful, though, and does not accept equals readily (and betters never). While that is hard, earning his trust is even more challenging. A person must show both independence, intelligence, and strength. He does not want to feel like he is having to baby sit those he would tentatively call friends. It is not a simple situation of trusting a person and them trusting you back. No, Loki actually thinks those that trust him to soon are fools, and fools can only serve him in the lowest positions.

First Person:

[The camera comes on. Loki is staring at it, wide eyed. He sets it down and plays with it a bit. Backing up, he starts pacing, like an injured wild animal in a cage.]

I do not know how you imprisoned me here, but I demand to know who you are and for what purpose you have brought me to this place.

[He backs up a bit from the camera and runs a hand through his greasy black hair.] If it is you, I would at least expect the privilege of knowing this is to be my unjust punishment. And you would do well to remember that I held up my end of the bargain to the best of my ability. It was your army that could not handle a few mortals in tights. You let me down, not the other way around.

Third Person:
Loki stalked through the streets of Asgard. Even at the darkest hour of the night the city was just as bright as he remembered. The warm light that reflected off the golden spires no longer looked like home. Now where ever he looked the grandeur of the realm of the gods mocked him. Here is everything you had. Everything you once ruled. Everything you lost. Everything he took from you. And it was taken from him. He had been the ruler of Asgard, the rightful ruler, then like always Thor had come in and outshined him Though its not hard to outshine a shadow .

He almost had it. He almost won it all back. Midgard would have been better off with him in power, the humans happier. But no, Midgard was under Thor's protection. He never did like to share his toys when they were younger, and Loki was not shocked to see that had not changed. How Odin ever thought such a selfish and foolish man could ever rule over Asgard was beyond him other than the fact that Loki was a monster who would surely destroy Asgard if he were chosen to rule. To Odin and Frigga Thor could do no wrong, and wrong was all Loki was capable of.

So here he was, slinking through the shadows, an outcast, on the same streets he had once rode proudly as a prince looking back he supposed he’d always been an outcast. It had been too easy escaping from Odin’s prison. Not ‘too easy’ as in something was up, but rather ‘too easy’ as in Odin was pathetic and underestimated him. Now it was time to go back to Midgard and take revenge on the mortals who thought they could best him. He was not planning on killing any of them yet. No, that would be to easy, to much of a relief for them. He was recognized by many mortals as the god of Mischief, he had many tricks up his sleeves, many ways to make a man with he had never been born. Why end the fun when he could make their lives never-ending spirals of frustration and pain? He could continue with his original plans after he made these silly little Avengers regret ever having heard his name.

[personal profile] tomatatas 2012-07-06 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality: A nation of romance, passion and most importantly, pasta with plenty of tomatoes, Romana is many things. Stubborn, hard to impress as well as being a woman to hold grudges, she is also motherly, strong and proud, of not only herself or her family, but of her people. She’s a woman who will never give up on someone she cares about, and despite being often temperamental at times, she can also be rather sweet and affectionate when it suits her. She is also a woman who is not as confident as she may seem, yet at the same time is completely aware what her feminine charms can get her, and when those fail, what a few nice threats can achieve. A nation of contradictions.

There are many things Romana is stubborn about, including her religion, her family and their wellbeing. She’s unwilling to hear any harsh words against her religion, often leading to arguments when someone attempts to criticise it, and this also occurs when someone criticises one of her family member’s. In her eyes no one will ever be truly good enough for Venezia, North Italy, and she is so set in this belief there is no use even attempting to convince her otherwise. She’s also been known to ignore any of her sister’s faults when someone points them out, yet at the same time, she will point the same flaws out when she notices them. But it’s different, they’re sister’s, and as such only Romana can point out the flaws her family member’s have, while defending those flaws when another remarks on them.

She believes in her religion whole heartedly, but she does know its flaws. Still, it’s wise not to mention them to her, unless you want an irate woman. She also tries to be a good Catholic, though she’s been known to lapse her and there, especially in the case of Nyotalia Spain. It’s difficult, the bible frowns upon a relationship and in term, Romana’s not entirely sure how she feels about Spain, is it romantic, a friendship or a family relationship. Unfortunately, rather than attempt to figure it out, she avoids the issue and the two have a slightly shaky but relatively okay relationship where Romana calls Spain out on her dumb ideas, but at the same time, will defend her if she needs it.

Like the stereotypical Italian woman she’s a good if not brilliant cook, and it’s a task she rather enjoys. There’s always plenty of food on the table and if you reject her (repeated) offerings for seconds she’ll either be deeply offended and embarrassed that her cooking isn’t good enough, or ignore you and keep offering or even rant at you for not appreciating the food she’s slaved so hard over. Nothing like a good old guilt trip, and like I said she’s stubborn. No is simply a maybe, 1 meatball clearly means 3. It’s easier to just take the food you’ve been given and ask if you can take it home. You may end up with a metric fuckton of food but at least you won’t have an offended Italian.

She also takes great pride in her house and she’s the one that makes sure it’s clean, that Venezia’s paints are in her studio and Seaborg’s clothes are in the closet and not on the floor. She’s definitely the mother of the Italian sibling’s, and it’s her that fusses over her sisters’ the most, almost suffocating them in attention at times. Like her male self, Romana does not approve of the relationship between Venezia and Germany, though this disapproval did not become as strong as it currently is until after the Second World War, especially with Nazi Germany’s invasion of the Northern half of Italy, all the way down to Rome, after Italy signed the armistice with the Allies. This, in Romana’s opinion was crossing a very delicate line and she has never truly forgiven the German nation for those actions even if Germany herself had no control over her boss’s actions. They currently have a very tentative relationship, the only thing stopping Romana from kicking Germany into Mount Vesuvius being the tears she knows Venezia would produce. Romana will do pretty much anything for her family, including the other Italian nations as well as the Italian people or pretty much anyone she cares for. Children, for example, will always win her over despite how hard adults may try, especially with an impressive display of tears. They’re her number one weakness.

Speaking of her sister, Romana and Venezia have a far better relationship than Romano and Veneziano. Sure, they fight sometimes, but what sister’s don’t. Sure there’s a little bit of self confidence issues on Romana’s side, with her sister being the curvier one. In Romana’s mind, her slim waist and smaller bust can’t compare to her sister’s wide hips and larger chest, though in reality the sizes between the two aren’t that big, and Romana tends to not notice that she’s just as attractive as her sister, she just caters to a different audience. Her sister’s also a lot less modest that Romana in terms of dress, Venezia being more than happy to run around in short skirts and stomach showing shirts while Romana sticks to her knee length sundress’s and pastel colours. This difference in dress means that it’s only naturally that Venezia attracts so much more attention, especially when you add in her tendency to be easily excited and loud.

That doesn’t mean that Romana’s some shy little wall flower, like I said, she’s temperamental, she’s passionate. If she has a probably with someone’s opinion or ideas she’ll point it out, as well as point out all the flaws she can think of. This little lecture can often be coupled with violence, often a light bop to the head as if to punctuate her point. Just because she enjoys cooking, cleaning, and over all can seem like a traditional housewife, happy with her chores, doesn’t mean she is one. She’s a fan of team work, and if you even dare complain about being bored around her you’ll be quickly saddled with a few dozen tasks that need to be done. And if you know what’s good for you you’d best do them or she’ll chase you down, nag, and eventually they will be done. By your hands. She can be quite the bossy little woman at times.

As such, she’s not as easily pushed around as the male South Italy is. She is respected and liked within the mafia rather than abused, even though they have attempted to shelter her once or twice. Romana however isn’t about to put up with that bull and while she’s learnt many skills from the mafia she generally ignores their actions unless they start to sneak into the North of Italy, or begin to harm too many civilians. They’re her problem, and like a mother lecturing their naughty children she can be quick to pull them into line. But they’re a bit too hard to get rid of, so what can she do. Plus, a part of her likes having that power, the ability to use them as a threat. But they have served to make her stronger, teach her things she would never have known, and in a way they’re like her. Family first.

This connection to the mafia, as well as the true skill of the Italian soldiers in World War 2, ("The German soldier has impressed the world... However the Italian Bersaglieri has impressed the German soldier.” –Rommel. “The Italians were willing, unselfish and good comrades in the frontline. There can be no disputing that the achievement of all the Italian units, especially the motorised elements, far outstripped any action of the Italian Army for 100 years. Many Italian generals and officers earned our respect as men as well as soldiers”-Rommel.) means that Romana is a capable and relatively strong fighter, certainly a better one than Romano, as noted by Himaruya in his solitary character note, she is better at fighting than her male counterpart. She’ll rarely back down from a fight when it concerns someone she cares about, and she’ll do her utmost to win, even if it occasionally means having to accept help of those she dislikes for silly reasons (America is an overexposed bimbo, England a silly woman who wishes she was younger than she is, France a woman who can be quite snobby at times, all in Romana’s opinion. Things like that.)

Overall, Romana is a woman who loves as fiercely as she fights, who cleans and cooks and is the mother of her family, but isn’t about to walked over as if she’s a submissive housewife. She can be hard to impress, but just keep trying and eventually you can crack through her shell and once you’re in her heart she’ll never let you out of it.

Unless you hurt her sister, and then it’s a trip to see the fishies for you.

History: In the 8th and 7th centuries BC, Greeks began to settle in Italy due to famine, overcrowding etc, as well as a need for expansion and net ports and outlets and expulsion from their homeland. During this period Romana came to be, a tiny little thing known as Magna Gracia by the Romans, or 'Great Greece'. Naturally for most of her early life Romana's main influence was a Greek one, and she was found first by Ancient Greece. The older man became somewhat of a mentor or surrogate grandfather to the little girl, teaching her all about his own culture, from religious rites to the dialects of Ancient Greece. With this influence Romana's own Hellenic civilisation developed, and it would later come to interact with the Italic and Latin, sharing things like a Chalcidean/Cumaean variety of the Greek alphabet with the Etruscans which would later evolve into the Latin alphabet. Not to mention how these new Hellenic cities became rich and powerful, like Capua, Neapolis (Naples). In 420 BC the port in Naples became one of the most important of the Mediterranean sea.

While Ancient Greece had a huge impact on her early years, he wasn't family. Over the years Romana had caught glimpses of her Grandmother, a powerful woman in armour, the strong Roman Empire. While she felt an attachment to Ancient Greece thanks to a shared culture and peoples a part of her knew that Ancient Rome was her family, and really it came at no surprise that at the end of the Pyrrhic War Romana found herself leaving Ancient Greece and being 'absorbed' into the Roman Republic. She would still see the older man through the years, but now the majority of her time was spent in the heart of the Republic, in Rome, under the eyes of her Grandmother. With the shift came a change in name, Romana now being given the name that would stick with her for the rest of her life - Italia Romana.

It was in Rome that she met her sister, Italia Venezia, for the first time, a little girl from the North. With hair a few shades lighter than Romana's and eyes that were amber not green, it was clear from the beginning that they had different influences in their formative years. Not to mention the differences in personalities, Venezia a much more cheerful girl while Romana was usually stubborn and even bratty. Her insecurities began right there, Romana unused to sharing the attention of an adult, and feeling inadequate to Venezia's easy cheerfulness. It was common to hear Ancient Roma cooing over the younger sister and complimenting her while forgetting to do so to the older.

Time went on. The girl's met their 'siblings': Gaul from the North, Hispania and Lusitania to the East. There was also Germania from the north, a silent strong woman who served as her Grandmother's bodyguard as well as friend in Ancient Rome's eyes. As Ancient Rome's granddaughters they were given an equal education unlike other human girls of the empire, though Ancient shied off teaching them warfare. She wanted her granddaughters to be artists and lovers, not soldiers. They were happy, but it wasn't to last.

As Romana would later learn, no Empires lasted forever. Ancient Rome grew weaker as her Empire fell apart and finally disappeared. While Romana could never prove it she always assumed it was Germanaia who committed the below that finally took her Grandmother, and it was there that her distrust in Germans began. From then to the Gothic Wars she lived under Germania's protection, the woman fulfilling her last favour for Ancient Rome by keeping her granddaughters safe.

In the 500's, after the Gothic Wars, Romana found herself coming under the rule of the Byzantine Empire. Again she was divided from her sister, but at the same time she was reunited with Ancient Greece, the older man having shifted into an Empire like her grandmother's. The Greek influence still remained in Southern Italy and Romana found herself adjusting to the shift in situation, though she found herself missing the little sister she had previously labelled annoying and attention seeking. Often, she would sneak away from Ancient Greece/Byzantine Empire to go to the north and check on the younger girl, always remembering her Grandmother's instructions to look after her younger sister. But overall she was still reasonably happy, even as she found herself starting to wish she would grow some more, becoming frustrated with the fact she still possessed the body of a five year old human child. It made it very difficult to be taken seriously.

Then from the 9th to the 11th centuries Romana found herself in a metaphorical game of keep away, with her as the ball... item being kept. Thing. Caught between Greece, Lombardy, and the Islamic Caliphate, the South found itself in the middle of many wars for control. For once Romana started to become afraid, her body still to childlike to put an end to the fighting. Not to mention she had no skills in warfare unlike her 'sisters' Gaul from the North, Hispania and Lusitania, thanks to her Grandmother's decision to not train them. So she just had to put up with it, being snatched by power to power, a fact that only made her insecurities grow as Romana began to believe that she was only wanted for the land she represented, and not because of who she was. It left her suspicious of people's intentions, and unable to fully trust someone completely, habits she has never been able to shake. In this period a few Islamic states were formed within her, by the Islamic Caliphate, such as the Emirate of Sicily and Emirate of Bari. This Arabic ruling left it's own influence, further darkening her skin and hair, making the physical differences between her and her sister only more noticeable. However by then Romana was mistrustful, and did her best to keep anyone from further influencing her culture. However it left it's mark on her art, as well as the language of Sicily, as much as it annoyed her.

By the 11th century the Normans had made their move and now occupied all the Lombard and Byzantine possession in South Italy, which ended the six centuries presence of both powers in the peninsula. Eventually they also expelled the Muslims from Sicily. However under Roger II the Norman Kingdom of Sicily was said to be characterised by it's multi-ethnic nature and religious tolerance, and he allowed Normans, Jews, Muslim Arabs, Byzantine Greeks, Lombards and the 'native' Sicilians to live together, creating a relative harmony. However this tolerance to different nationalities and religions was not something Romana truly learnt from, both from stubbornness, her belief that her people and her religion were better that those of the invading people. It also didn't help that the Norman domination did not last very long, formally ending in 1198, and thus couldn't really leave an impact on her like being under Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome did.

After the end of the Norman reign with Constance of Sicily, Romana was picked up by the Swabian Hohenstaufen dynasty, German Kings, three of whom were crowned Holy Roman Emperor. With Romana's previous negatives interactions with Germans through Germania still firmly embedded in her mind, she treated this take over with hostility, with one exception. She did not completely mind Emperor Frederick II, who did take quite good care of her, having a long commitment in developing her land, people and culture. He endorsed a legal reform in Sicily which culminated with the creation of the Constitutions of Melfi which was a collection of laws that were considered quite remarkable at the time, and would remain to be a source of inspiration for a long time after as well as remaining the basis of Sicilian law until 1819 (with slight changes over the years). He also made the Kingdom of Sicily a centralised state and his royal court in Palermo saw the first use of a literary form of an Italo-Romance language, Sicilian, which would then go on to significantly influence the beginnings of the modern Italian language. For these developments Romana does think kindly of Emperor Frederick II, though it is done rather grudgingly, and never out loud. She's a very stubborn girl, however the fact that she hasn't kicked up a fuss over the fact that the previously named University of Naples is now know as the Università Federico II shows her true feelings.

In 1266 conflict between the Hohenstaufen house and the Papacy led to Sicily being conquered by Charles I, Duke of Anjou, which then led into the War of Sicilian Vespers, caused by opposition to French officialdom and taxation as well as incitement of rebellion by both the Aragonese and Byzantine agents. The Sicilian Vespers successful invasion was led by Peter III of Aragon in 1282 and the war would last till 1302, ending with the Peace of Caltabellotta and the division of the old Kingdom of Sicily. This Romana clearly did not like, because again, it was more powerful countries, fighting over land that was hers, and peoples that were hers. But still, she had barely aged, her growth squashed by continuous changes in power and a reluctance to let in new culture and absorb those strengths. The actual island of Sicily was taken by Frederick III of Aragon, who had already been ruling it, while the peninsular territories which had previously been known also as the Kingdom of Sicily, but now know to the modern day as the Kingdom of Naples went to Charles II of Anjou, who had also been previously ruling that section. This peace was merely a formal act and an unstable status quo, and Romana would find herself being influenced by two different cultures, French and Spanish, which meant she was caught between her older sisters, something that would not be the first and last time. Thankfully, in Romana's opinion, the King of Spain was able to grab both of the crowns starting from the 16th century, leaving Romana in the now teen-aged Spain's care, which was the lesser of two evils she decided. However it wasn't until 1816 that the Kingdoms were completely reunited as the Kingdom of Two Sicilies, which just gave Romana yet another name she was now known as.

Alfonso V was the one to conquer the Kingdom of Naples from the House of Anjou in 1442, and now Sicily and Naples were unified as dependencies of Aragon. In 1458 the kingdom was again separated when Alfonso died, with Naples going to his illegitimate son, Ferrante. Then when Ferrante died in 1494, Charles VIII of France invaded Italy and used the Angevin claim to the throne of Naples, an inheritance of his father, as a pretext. This then started the Italian Wars, and while Charles VIII managed to expel Alfonso II of Naples from, well, Naples, in 1495, he ultimately was forced to withdraw as Ferdinand II of Aragon support was for his cousin and Alfonso II's son Ferrantino, who was placed back on the throne. However he died soon after in 1496 and was succeeded by his uncle Frederick IV.

Naturally, the French did not give up their claim, agreeing in 1501 to a partition of the kingdom with Ferdinand of Aragon who had decided to abandon his cousin King Frederick. Of course the deal soon feel through, and France and Aragon resumed fighting over the kingdom, Ferdinand being the eventual winner in 1504, and while the are remained an area of dispute between France and Spain for several decades after, the French attempts to gain control begun to become weaker and the Spanish control was never truly threatened. Finally with the Treaty of Cateau- Cambrésis in 1559 the French gave up their claims to the kingdom, and Romana began to think she was finally going to be settled down. Even though France had never gained control of her, the years had being annoying, as France had occasionally attempted to physically take her from Spain, and while Romana at the time would refuse to admit it, she was beginning to grow attached to the older girl. She remembered Spain from her childhood, and had always had a better friendship with the girl, Spain reminding her of her Grandmother. So now that France had finally given up, she hoped nothing would happen for awhile and hopefully she would grow.

Even when the kingdom changed hands again, after the War of the Spanish Succession in the early 18th century, Romana's life was not completely uprooted. Austria, somehow sensing of knowing Romana's feelings towards Germans. While Naples and Sardina were given to Charles VI, Holy Roman Emperor in 1713, joined by Sicily in in 1720, Austria agreed to let Romana stay with Spain, knowing that the young girl had already began to form an attachment to the older, and that to break them apart would only hurt Romana. The fact that Romana's temper was already legendary probably also helped sway Austria's decision. Naples and Sicily would later by conquered by a Spanish Army in 1734, Charles, Duke of Parma, a younger son of King Philip V of Spain being installed as King of the two regions in 1735. It would later be left to Charles younger son Ferdinand IV when Charles inherited the Spanish throne from his half-brother in 1759.

But through all of this Romana stayed under Spain's care, slowly beginning to age, despite Spain constantly babying her. Perhaps because Spain had fought so hard and for so long to keep her hands on her, she was one of Spain's most favoured 'children', as the older would call them, despite the fact that Romana was nearly as old as her, unlike the South America colonies. Working as a maid for Spain, she would usually be found in the kitchen, assisting the women there and learning herself. She found herself keeping an eye on the younger South America colonies, and it was here her motherliness began to show, Romana often acting like an older sister to the others, especially so when Spain was extremely busy. She also received an education, and one that was more similar to a male's of the day, rather then the females. Spain believed in equal education for her colonies, which meant that Romana was well read, knew her mathematics and history, as well as the geography of the day, often being allowed to peer over Spain's maps. She was was also taught to fence by the older woman, a skill she did demand that Spain instruct her in. Slowly she aged from a small child into a pubescent girl, and she started to grow stronger. And through this time, she remained distant to her sister, the different courses their lives or history had gone through creating two girls that were different to the ones they had been at their grandmother's death. Despite this, Romana tried her best to keep and eye on her sister, even from a difference, and would often bug Spain to visit Austria and take her, so she could check on her.

Despite being conquered again by France and her Napoleon, a sense of nationalism growing in Italy. Even as Napoleon captured Naples in the name of the French Republic, Romana was starting to think enough was enough, these feeling urged on by the feelings of her people. King Ferdinand had fled Italy and would not return till June 1799 and would then dethroned by the now French Emperor Napoleon in 1806, who appointed his brother, Joseph, as King of Naples. In 1808, in the Edict of Bayonne, Napoleon moved his brother to Spain and appointed his brother-in-law as King of the Two Sicilies, however this meant they could only control the mainland portion of the Kingdom.

Through this, Ferdinand remained in Sicily, his capital now Palermo, and would not be restored till 1815, the restoration as King of the Two Sicilies coming from the Congress of Vienna. However, despite establishing a concordat with the Papal States, who previously had a claim to the land, the damage was already done. The people of South Italy, and Romana herself were fed up with being controlled by others. Several rebellions had already broken out on Sicily against Ferdinand II, and the end of the kingdom was brought about through the Expedition of the Thousand in 1860, led by Garibaldi, who would become a icon of the Italian unification, with the support from the House of Savoy and their Kingdom of Piedmont-Sardinia. This expedition resulted in a series of defeats for the Sicilian armies against the troops of Garibaldi whose numbers were only growing. In the middle of the night, Romana herself finally snuck away from Spain, knowing that while she was breaking the heart of the older woman she had to do this. For herself, for her people. And by 1861 the Kingdom of Two Sicilies had been dissolved and then annexed into the new Kingdom of Italy.

The Kingdom itself ran in relative peace, though it was not completely unified just yet. It wasn't until after 1866 that Italy was able to claim back Venice, meaning that Romana did not truly see her sister until then. However in exchange with forming an alliance with the Kingdom of Prussia during the Austro-Prussian War, Prussia would allowed Italy to annex Venice, a deal that King Emmanuel took which created the Third Italian War of Independence, which ended in success against Austria. This meant that Romana was finally reunited with her sister, for the first time in many years. It was one of the few times Romana's walls dropped and she showed her true emotions to another. They were one step closer to being Independent completely unified. The only obstacle being that France still controlled the Papal State of Rome. However in 1870 Prussia went to war with France, and France abandoned it's positions in Rome to fight the large Prussian Army, and when Prussia was victorious, Italy was able to take Rome from French authority. The Unification was now complete and both sisters settled in Rome, now their new capital. And while Romana will rarely show it it, she is actually quite thankful to Prussia for helping them both, knowing just how much harder it would have been had they not had her on their side.

Now unified, both girls went through a large growth spurt, their body's aging to look more like an adults. However, Romana's growth was still slower than her sister's, and to this day she is slightly shorter than Venezia and will compensate for this with ridiculous high heels. This is due simply to the fact that while The North began to flourish in the new unified Italy, the South did not, it's economy suffering and and it process of industrialisation being interrupted. This only lead to poverty and crime growing in the South, and the rise of organised crime. Many people also left her, for her sister and her industry, or for other parts of Europe or even to America for a fresh start. This left Romana as much more hardened then her sister, and with a more pessimistic outlook. As much as she loves her people, it hurt a lot to see them leave and it felt like she was a failure that she couldn't industrialise or modernise fast enough for her overpopulated land. And the rise of the mafia meant that Romana learnt the evils in life, and learnt that at times certain sacrifices need to be made, which is a rather skewered idea that even she is aware of. It never changed her strong sense of loyalty though, but it did increase her ability to hold a grudge for a long time, especially in the cases of her people and her sister.

Overall however, life was good. She had her sister back, they were their own country and even though they had their hiccups, they were independent. However in 1876 her parliamentttt, which was already favouring radicsocialismsmsmsm, removed the conservative Prime Minister Marco Minghetti and replaced him with socialist Agostino Depretis which began the period known as the Socialist Period, which was marked with corruption, government instabipovertypovert and the use of authoritarian measures. As much as she could, Romana attempted to shelter Venezia from all the changes and corruption, but at the same time, she struggled. Finally, she was starting to understand what it was like for the other nations, such as Spain, Austria, France and Prussia. Physically she was a woman. And in this period, even her political leader would not completely listen to her, despite the fact he knew who and what she truly was. Frustration started to grow and even to this day she gets easily frustrated by obviously displays of sexism and misogyny.

Depretis first government used a political idea of transformismo, which in theory meant that a cabinet should select a variety of moderates and capable politicians from a non-partisan perspective. In practice of course, trasformismo was authoritarian and corrupt, with Depretis pressuring districts to vote for his candidates if they wants favourable concessions when he was in power. This was most likely used as the key means to how Depretis kept his support in Southern Italy, who was already weak from poor economy, poverty and the organised crime. Romana found it harder and harder to speak up, her own strength tied to that of her people, and her own stubborn personality being squashed down. She had never had a proper government before, perhaps this really was how it was run. However while Depretis dominated the government and started to use authoritarian measures like banning public meetings , placing so called dangerous individuals into internal exile and remote penal islands and adopting militarist policies, her also made elementary education compulsory and free, and abolished arrest for debt.

Needless to say Depretis' first government collapsed in 1877, his second starting in 1881, with his goals including widening suffrage in 1882 and increasing the tax intake from Italians by expanding the minimum requirements of who could pay taxes and the creation of a new electoral system called which resulted in large numbers of inexperienced deputies in the Italian parliament . It wasn't until 1887 that Depretis was pushed out of government and replaced by his cabinet minister Francesco Crispi whose major concern was the strength of Austria-Hungary, and how was best to protect Italy from them, a concern Romana shared. She had grown attached to her younger sister, despite all the years of separation and was beginning to bond with the younger girl. Not to mention she didn't think she could handle being divided yet again. However, the fact that one Crispi's ideas was to win Germany's favour, joining the Triple Alliance with both Germany and Austria-Hungary, irritated her, her older dislike of Germans returning. In Romana's eyes a German from Germany was just as bad as one from the Austrian-Hungarian empire. But yet again she was ignored, her boss unable to look past the physical into what she was.

The fact that her government was focussing so much on the foreign policy meant other important areas of Italy were neglected and alienated, such as the agricultural community of Italy. Already in decline since 1873, a government investigation was started in 1877, a report released eight years later showed that agriculture was not improving , that landowners were swallowing up revenue from their lands and contributing almost nothing to the development of the land. There was also demand from lower class Italian's to break up the communal lands, which only benefited the landlords. Most workers were not peasants but short term labourers, employed for, at best, a year, while peasants without stable income were forced to live off meagre food supplies while disease was spreading rapidly, plagues were being reported, including a major cholera epidemic which killed at least 55,000 people. South Italy was producing too many grapes for wine, this overproduction resulting from the 1870's and 80's where Southern Italy had stepped in to become the largest exporter of wine in Europe while France's vineyards were suffering from diseases from insects. And when France recovered, southern Italy was still overproducing, and had to cut back which only resulted in more unemployment and bankruptcies. And the Italian government could not effectively deal with the situation thanks to massive overspending by Depretis' government which had left Italy in debt.

Romana's feelings on the entire period can be summed up in two word. Anger and frustration. Anger her government was focusing on her people, was making alliances that she didn't truly want, but was forced to agree to, to gain power. Frustration for being ignored, simply because of her physical appearance. She began to truly understand how much she had taken for granted under Spain's care, how hard the older woman must have found it. And yet she still kept working. And so would Romana.

Then came World War I. While Italy was in an alliance with both Austria-Hungary and Germany, Italy struggles on whether to honour the alliance, originally stating that they were neutral and that the alliance was for defence purposes only. Unlike the people who were divided on whether or not to enter the was Romana wanted to stay out, knowing her country was already suffering, and that war would only exacerbate the problem. However, she was forced to cave to the demands of nationalists and her bosses and this saw her and her sister signing the London Pact and agreeing to declare war on Austria-Hungary in return for a promise of major territorial war. Still confined to the gender ideas of Italy, Romana slipped into being a nurse to the injured of which there were many. The army consisted of 875 000 men but it was poorly led and lacked military supplies of heavy artillery and machine guns, the supplies being depleted in an early war with Turkey in 1911-12. Close to 650 000 soldiers died and 950 000 were wounded and the economy struggled, only surviving thanks to large-scaled Allied funding. Deep down Romana seethed, and mourned, and did all that she could to help her people, while struggling to have any power. To this day she still regrets not doing something drastic, but a nation finding the power to refuse and reject their boss they need a lot of power. And instead of Italy's power increasing it decreased, with Italy not reviving any territories promised from the Treaty of London besides the Southern half of the County of Tyrol, Trieste, Istria, and the city of Zadar. And these gains did not outweigh all that Romana had lost, how much her people had suffered. A small seed of dislike grew inside her, growing thanks to the emotions of those in the South, and this dislike and belief of inheritance incompetence in the government is one she still caries.

After WWI, Premier Vittorio Orlando fell from power in June 1919, being blamed for the mismanagement of the Italian position at the peace conference. Economic issues from before the war were now severe and the people were disillusioned and their national pride suffered. Romana felt the shifts in her people, how the unrest grew but never spoke up, deciding that her people needed a change, and that she would not interfere. And so down went Orlando, and strikes broke out through Venezia's lands in 1920-21 and the Giovanni Gioliti became the new premier, later winning the national election in 1921 with the help of Benito Mussolini's Fascist Party which already controlled 35 seats. This only resulted in weak governments, and finally Mussolini announced a march on Rome on October 27, 1922, to which the King refused to proclaim Martial Law. In response Mussolini's 'Black Shirts', the name give to a paramilitary unit, took control of Rome and he was made Premier, receiving dictatorial powers a month later. His enemies, and the enemies of Fascism were silenced by terrorism and brute force, and while he made peace with the Catholic Church, Romana did not find herself liking this new boss. And slowly Italy became a fascist state, and Romana found herself to continue to be restricted to gender roles, Mussolini adamant that a woman's role was to be in the home, raising strong children from the country, and in Romana's and Venezia's cases, being woman who were striving to better the country by doing menial tasks.

With Mussolini's show of support to Hitler at the Munich conference in 1938 Italy again found itself becoming an ally to the Germans, and after France had been defeated by Germany in 1940 signed an official alliance to create the Axis with Japan and Germany. Again Romana attempted to protest the decision, Italy was still to weak military wise and wasn't prepared for a war, she was ignored, and thus Italy entered World War II. Again, she was moved into the task of nursing the wounded, but even as she fulfilled that she could feel herself nearing the edge where she would finally act.

Three events that were important to Romana in World War II were the Bombing of Naples, The Allied Invasion of Sicily and the German Invasion of Italy. The first left her with her scarring, a mark that has shaped her many things from personality, to her dress sense. Her insecurities have only grown with the mark, Romana seeing it as ugly and hating the blemish. It's not just ugly, it's a mark that says she didn't act soon enough, that she failed. And she she hides it under her clothes, and as of today nobody knows of it.

The next, the Allied Invasion of Sicily in August 1943 and the movement into the peninsula in September forced Mussolini to flee and he and his fascists lost power after all of this, the King bringing in a new government under Pietro Badoglio. This change helped Romana find the strength to actually do something, and it was then she joined the Italian campaign, which leads into the third event. With the Allied movements into Italy the Germans had also made their moves, seizing control of Italy from Naples up and installing Mussolini as the leader of the Italian Social Republic, a puppet state. The act of Germany invading her sister caused Romana to finally snap, the old issues with German's coming straight to the surface. Her thick brown hair which had previously reached to her lower back was chopped off, Romana hating the fact she needed to destroy something she considered one of her greatest features. But she knew it was necessary to disguise herself as a younger male, so she could join the troops moving up through Italy and reclaiming it. She fought by her people for the first time and she fought for her sister and her sister's people. In a way, she was finally realising all that it means to be a nation.

And just as she begins to fight, she'll be picked up by Ruby City.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
Strengths
Physical; As a nation, Romana is much stronger than the average human. She is also a much faster healed, when the wound is one that has been caused on her human body and not on her land or her people or economy. E.g.; A bullet wound or a cut will heal quickly, while the damage from an earthquake will leave much longer lasting damage. In canon, a nation gets a cold from having their economy crash. Her nationhood status leaves her practically immortal, or until such time as she herself is forgotten by her people, or Italy is destroyed or no longer needed.

She is also prone to greater bursts of strength when angry or trying to protect someone she cares greatly about. Like a sort of Hysterical strength thing.

Psychological; As a nation, and one of her age, Romana naturally has to have a very strong mind. She's stubborn and determined, both which have helped her to never truly gve up fighting and always climb back up to help her people and make things better for them.

Emotional; While she doesn't open up to many, when she does care for someone Romana is very attentive, very motherly. Children are a massive weakspot for her and automatically bring this out in her. She protects her feelings under layers of snark and sass but at the same time she loves deeply.

Weaknesses
Physical; The Bombings of Naples have left her with scars and wounds along her left side. At her time of arrival in Ruby City one of these will be fresh. The others have begun to heal, and the scar tissue has caused it's own issues, making it harder for Romana to move her left side.

And without her nation strength, Romana would be like any other petite 5' woman and not very strong.

Psychological; Her natural nature of being suspicious can often cause problems, as she becomes unwilling to trust people. She also cares far too much about her sister's wellbeing, to the point that she will risk her own safety with little thought to protect Venezia.

Emotional; Romana is quick to sass and even quicker to burst into a temper when she feels she has been wrong. Her anger is harsh, and can be often undeserved. She is also prone to holding grudges, unwilling to let things go, like Germany getting Italy involved in the war, or even as far back to Germania killing Ancient Rome.

Abilities: As a nation Romana is effectively immortal, and also a quick healer to human based wounds. She also possess an instinctive connection to her people, as they often influence her in decisions. It has also been implied in certain strips that Nations can hop from one country to another, like teleporting, rather then using more human transport like planes or trains.

In more human based abilities, she's fluent in many languages, including Italian, Sicilian, French, Spanish, with passable English and German. She's also very good with a gun, trained in first aid and all that of the traditional war time roles for women. She's also handy with a sword though that is a much older form of battle and it's starting to get rusty.

Relationships to Canon Characters:
Romano; The male version of herself.
Veneziano; The male version of her younger sister.
All the other damn nations; Are all in her world but naturally genderbent, eg; males are females and females are males to her.

First Person:
I do not understand where I am...
What is this... who...

[The speaker of this watch doesn't seem to realise she's being recorded, her voice loud as she tries to make her words carry, tough her confusion is obvious. The question of where she was, was much more important than a silly old watch of course]

England, if this is a trick of yours, I swear it, I'll make you pay! I don't need you! I don't need help from a stupid little heathen witch who never learned the common courtesy of respect!
I can fix this all myself... I can...
You and America can go straight to hell!
And you can say hello to Germany when I send her there as well. Uppity little bitc- [And the connection seems to cut out]

Third Person:
War is hard.

This is something Romana has always known, the daughter of two great empires, the charge of others that followed after the originals fell. She's seen what power, land, all of it costs, how it drains the land, the people, the nation itself. She's seen her grandmother, back lined with scars, Spain with fresh cuts oozing red, France, her eyes tired and still half crazed.

She's fought herself, many times. For independence. For family, her sister. For her people, who needed freedom, who needed a nation of Italy, one whole and strong and not split and strewn between so many. For growth, to give her people land to spread into, though in the end they never got that.

But this war, the second great war is different. It is nothing like the first she thinks, this one is far greater, the gain so much more and the risks even higher. This war consumes, erases and fear crept in early. Fear and disconntent, the voices of her people stirring in her, her own voice silenced as she tried to speak up, by her leader, by her sister.

Venezia had been so sure that Germany would help them to greatness. And Romana wishes she had been right. The words "I told you so" are ash in her mouth, and what does it matter when there is no sister beside her to say them to. For the first time since their independance, the first time since Romana stole her sister back from Austria they are seperated, Mussolini forming another Italy and Romana feels a hole inside her that she hasn't felt for decades.

It hurts. It hurts more than the pain in her side, the ache that flares into a sharp flare of hurt with even small movement. Bombs leave their mark on land, and her body is little more than a human manifestation of land. Perhaps if she was larger, taller, wider, the marks wouldn't be so bad. But she is small, delicate in body and it hurts.

The callouses on her hands in feet, where blisters have formed and burst and scarred can be ignored, but the blood that soaks through bandages can not. Romana wants to keep marching, take Rome back with her own hands, hands of the descendant of Ancient Rome, Italian hands, strong hands, but she can't. The loss of blood makes her feel more human than ever, the wounds left by the bombs in Naples unable to heal. As much as she hates stopping, as much as she hates the time wasted, time that leaves Venezia with that bastard longer, she must. She can feel the tips of sunset reaching the land and she knows it's time for rest.

Setting up the bare minimum of a camp she settles down to check her wounds, feeling the stickiness of blood soaked cloth sticking to her skin. Slowly she unwind the bandages from around her torso, the ones pressing her breasts down being slowly pull off. For once she ignores the embarrassment of being naked, cleaning the wound that covers her side with slow gentle soaks, the warmth of the water seeping into her skin.

The water turns red.

The bandages are tossed into a small pot to rinse them, new ones being wrapped around her body. The ache remains, but she bites down hard, tugging the bandages tight. She needs to stop the blood flow, she needs to be flat. She needs to be a man, because according to the men this is no place for her. Even if she feels the pain of all them dying, even if her sister needs her.

The wind sweeps across her neck, ruffling shorn down locks.

And like every night, Romana lets herself cry, just for a few moments. Tomorrow she'll be strong, tomorrow she'll be a cold, hard man, who can and will kill anyone. Tomorrow she'll keep marching, and soon she'll find her sister. Get rid of the Nazis. Get rid of Mussolini. It won't be tomorrow, but it will be soon.

Tonight she'll cry. For the people she's lost, for the sister that's being held from her. For Naples, half ruined, for her body, marked forever. For the blood that she's spilled, and for the hair she's cut off. She'll cry for many reasons, logical, illogical, emotional and rational.

Tomorrow she'll be strong.

CHARACTER
Name: Theodore
Canon: Persona 3 Portable
Timeline: Post-game

Personality:

Inside the Velvet Room and in battle Theodore appears to be a serious and polite young man who fulfills his duties diligently. At the optional battle against the female protagonist his politeness goes as far as to apologize for an attack against her. Regardless of that he does not hold back during the fight and suggests to the protagonist to do the same and “to fight like she has the intent to kill”. He is also an excellent fighter. As one of three so far known entities of purest power, the other two being his older sisters Elizabeth and Margaret, Theodore only has a limited knowledge about the world outside the Velvet Room. Also, Elizabeth seems to scare him for reasons unknown, he had only mentioned it in the game.

Despite lacking the knowledge of things a person would consider simple he pretends to know everything there is to know. It does not mean that he is stupid, he can actually tell the exact temperature of water by feeling it or tell ingredients of a dish by its smell, even tell every chemical component of a scent and he is proud of these skills of his. It can be actually said that if he is anything then he is worldly innocent when it comes to the human world. This is proven over and over again when you fulfill his requests of escorting him to certain places he has taken an interest to.

While on these “dates” with him the player gets a better insight of his character. Theodore is proud and unwilling to admit that there are things he does not know as he tries to come to logical conclusions himself, which are usually far off from the true purpose of the thing he took an interest in. In fact, depending on the answers chosen at these dates he appears to be flustered easily and in denial about his faux pas or even easily disappointed if he can’t take a closer look at the place of interest such as a “club” he could not enter since it was closed.

Aside from that and in addition to his worldly innocence Theodore also appears to be a bit naïve. He is unable to tell apart a statement from a metaphor, therefore taking every metaphor literally as shown at the second date. Another remarkable trait of his is his protectiveness and fondness over the female protagonist, which is usually shown through him asking for her hand to hold. At one point during the second date there is a car driving towards them, no matter what choice the player makes, Theodore seems to be more than worried over her. At the third date he even prays for her safety at the shrine. The last date reveals that he has actually has fallen in love with her, but in order to fulfill his duty in the Velvet Room and as her assistance, he is modest enough not to pursue a relationship with her.

First Person:

[The young-looking man stands at the station, holding a thick book under one of his arms. Golden eyes search for some evidence, a possibility to find out where he is at the moment until he spots one of the many posters.]

Ruby City? How strange, there doesn’t seem to be anything made out of rubies nor is anything ruby-colored. It seems that this is a matter that I should investigate a little further to come to a conclusion.

[As his free hand brushes over his pockets Theodore notices something inside of them, something that has not been there before. Reaching inside he takes out a watch out of it, immediately taking a closer look at it.]

I do not remember receiving an item such as this as a gift from anyone. But where did it come from then? It does not seem to be a simple watch…

[He was used to strange things, but this was even an odd case for him.]

Third Person:

This has been something he had decided for himself a long time ago and it seemed that the time had finally come. Theodore had prepared himself very well for this task and he was full of resolution to do this. For so long he had wondered about the human world, what it was like and how it looked like. And now his questions would be answered and his curiosity sated.

“Very well Master Minako, we shall go then? There is still a lot in your world that I would like to see very much.” The man dressed in blue held his hand out to her, his lips formed a charming smile. “May I have your hand, please?”

After all, the last thing Theodore wanted was to get separated from their valued guest during his stay at the other world. Not like he wouldn’t find his back to the Velvet room, what do you think. The reason why was because he had to look after her. She may be fulfilling a request of his, although were he to get lost then who would be supporting her during her journey?

CHARACTER
Name: Grell Sutcliff
Canon: Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler)
Timeline: At which point of the canon were they taken from? Season 1 episode 6. Grell has been defeated by the demon Sebastian, and has had his fellow reaper and boss, William, take him away to be punished for dereliction of his duty as a reaper. Note: Grell will likely assumeRuby City is his “Punishment” for a little while.
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: I’m not playing another character from this canon.

Personality: First and foremost, Grell puts on an amazing act of being insane. His default personality is amiable, cheerful and flirtatious. However, he scrolls through emotions rapidly, and is quick to intense and frightening fits of rage, violence, lust, sorrow, and affection.
He relishes and revels in the life-and-death drama of human tragedy. He is contemptuous of human life, finding it dull and dirty. But the drama of death is something that excites and fascinates him. Shinigami live a very long time. While they can die and there are ways to kill them, this is rare. It’s a very dull life, set in a never-ending bureaucracy. Due to the nature of this existence, Grell decides to pack as much of the drama he disparages human lives for not having into his own life. Grell fancies himself an actress. His emotions are not something he feels, as much as they are something that he uses to create his own personal melodrama with himself as the beautiful leading lady. Since to Grell, drama is better than the real life cinematic records, Grell prefers acting out dramatic emotions to experiencing real ones.
There are many reasons why Grell greatly prefers theatrics over his real life emotions. He’d much rather emotions be like they are on the stage. Besides, stage emotions are fun, but real ones are painful. When faced with emotions that Grell can’t turn into melodrama and play-acting, ones that he has to actually feel, Grell can suddenly seem very fragile. So, Grell’s objects of affection tend to be people who are either aloof (William) or who want nothing but to kill him (Sebastian.) That way, he can enjoy acting out a passionate drama without any danger of the real, dirty, boring, undramatic emotions form the less-exciting cinematic records. In addition to this, Grell knows the reality of love would not compare to the drama of imaginary love. For that reason, Grell tends to love men who will spurn and respond to his advances with violence. He likes to act as though his feelings are returned. Part of this is because since he is a masochist, he does genuinely get off being fought off and generally abused. The other part is because acting as though the fight is a love affair, Grell encourages further attention and abuse.
Grell is a masochist by nature. He likes being treated roughly. And, as reapers go, he holds one of the only AAA scores on technical skill with a shinigami death-scythe, and he loves to show off. He’s very proud of his ability. So, both fighting and being beaten and dominated are things that excite him.
Most of the targets for his wild romantic attentions are men, but he's flexible in the matter and can harbor romantic and sexual feelings for women. This, however, is rare. Most women he treats with jealousy and disdain. When he does, it’s usually because he’s enjoying playing out some drama he’s concocted, and the woman is a part of the drama and has less to do with her personally.
Grell feeds on attention, and will stop at nothing to get it. He wants to be an actress, so he will always force those around to be his audience to his performances. To him, attention is good no matter how negative a form it takes. He dearly loves to frighten people and make them uncomfortable. The main reason for this is because it’s the best way to make himself the center of attention.
Another dimension to this is the fact that Grell is a very powerful individual, even by shinigami standards. There is a duality to this, in that he enjoys both wielding his power over others in the form of intimidation, and meeting the rare person who can match him and wield power over him, dominating him. It’s the same duality that exists in children, where they constantly both push boundaries and look for them to be enforced that the same time.
Grell’s opinion of himself is very high. He’s powerful and beautiful and he is very aware of this. Even as a young shinigami, he feels like his skill entitles him to preferred treatment, even though he didn’t do exceptionally well on the written exams. Grell also feels very entitled to the kind of dramatic life he craves. This causes a degree of cognitive dissonance, or sometimes just plain anger when he does not get what he feels he is entitled to. When this happens, he cycles back to his extreme behavior to get more attention on himself, or express more of his dramatic outrage. But, while his dramatic personality does get him the attention he craves, it does not really leave him emotionally fulfilled. He can be left lonely and frustrated by only receiving negative attention. However, these emotions channel right back into his resorting to extreme behavior. Grell’s aware of the fact that he behaves badly. Therefore, he can sometimes become confused when he receives positive attention when he thinks it's sincere, and not done to manipulate him.
He does have moments of lucidity, and he can be quite cunning and intelligent when he wants to be. He just doesn’t want to be. Generally, he’s not so mentally broken that he cannot function; he’s just broken enough so that he doesn’t care to. He’s a bit like the child who drops the plate and breaks it so he doesn’t have to do the dishes anymore. The shinigami life is long and tedious, and Grell’s nature is to make it as dramatic and exciting as possible. That also means getting out of work as much as possible, and avoiding paperwork as much as he can.
Grell likes children, but they also make him uncomfortable. One reason for this could be because, as his job is a reaper in a time period when infant mortality and child deaths were common, the task of reaping children would be a common and distressing one. This discomfort combined with his short temper and tendency toward wild outbursts make him particularly bad with them.
Loyalty isn't something Grell is overly concerned with. He'll look out for number one. However, as vain as he is, and is susceptible to flattery and tokens of affection, no matter how minor or insincere. He lives his life in a way that provokes negative reactions, for the reasons stated above. Even though he enjoys it, it can leave him unsatisfied. Therefore, even the smallest sign of approval will delight him, as long as it doesn't come too close to a real emotion. He seems to have no real qualms with letting himself be manipulated quite readily. Once motivated, Grell can be easily be made into a powerful, but ultimately unreliable ally.
Given Grell's job and his feelings towards human lives, Grell’s relationship with death is fairly skewed. For Grell, to kill a human would only be to reap them early. It wouldn't have much significance. He sees human life as dirty and boring anyway, so he has no real respect for it.
His other interests include playing games, acting, theater, music, and the arts. He also enjoys photography. Grell does have an incredibly short attention span. So, his interests and hobbies tend to be passionate, but short lived.
Grell's gender identity is a source of debate among Kuroshitsuji fans. Some people play Grell as a transwoman, and some don't. While there is legitimate canon evidence for the transwoman interpretation, I personally don't see him that way. I play him as a gay male with a cross dressing fetish and a female persona that he indulges in. This is how I enjoy playing him, and while I don't believe that playing him as a transwoman is wrong, I believe there is equal evidence to support the other interpretation.
Grell speaks in "Onee kotoba" which is a common affectation common among "flaming" gay men and drag queens during peformances, which translates to female pronouns when translated to English. It is an innuendo-laced dirty parody of how little girls speak. While it would be common for drag queens, it would not be used by Japanese women. Yana Toboso has mentioned the issue in supplementary materials, and in one she does say Grell wants a sex change operation. This is, however, a common stereotype in Japan, the myth that all gay men really just want to be women. She typically describes him as "okama" (cross dressing gay man) in other materials.
He’s very vain, and shows no outward discontent with his male body. While he adores his long hair, makeup, and the occasional dressing up, Grell really makes no serious effort to pass as female. In fact, demanding people call him a woman and throwing tantrums when he's identified as a man seems to be something he enjoys. He uses it to his advantage to provoke negative attention, and to make people uncomfortable regularly throughout the series. This is most apparent in his interactions with Sebastian. Ironically, his view of "womanhood" and femininity is surprisingly misogynistic. To him, being a woman involves wearing dresses, makeup, looking pretty and receiving sexual attention from handsome men. When Madame Red will no longer do his bidding, he kills her declaring he has no use for her if she's "just another woman.
Therefore, while I don't think there's anything wrong with playing Grell as a transwoman, I also think this interpretation is valid.
