A note for CR AU applications
Ruby City does allow previous game history/CR to be brought over on a case by case basis. If you want to include this in your application please add additional sections for PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT and PREVIOUS GAME HISTORY beneath the Personality and Background/History sections.

In these additional sections we would like to see a brief outline of your character's previous game history and how it potentially impacted on and altered their canon personality.

CHARACTER
Character Name: Ryou Bakura
Canon: Yu-Gi-Oh
Age: 16
Timeline: After the Yu-Gi-Oh: Duelist manga, but not the resolution of the Millennium World arc
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: The only time this would become relevant is in both Bakuras referencing each other, in which case I would be applying them both because they coexist with each other. They’re used to sharing headspace and talk to each other often, so it’s not so much playing another character as two sides of the same coin! I just thought it prudent to apply them both so as to show all sides of them. :3

Personality: Ryou Bakura is a most confusing young boy. For the most part, he’s identified mainly as a member of Yugi’s group of friends, the least mentioned one and of course, the owner of the Millenium Ring. He is most infamously known to house the soul of the dark entity of the Ring which goes by his name for brevity’s sake, and there is little more to him than that in the storyline, particularly the anime storyline.

Ryou, however, is more than just a host. The dark entity—his Yami—only has access to what he has access to as a student and as a citizen of Domino. As such, their deck is one they both share an interest in. Judging by the conversation that Ryou shares with Jonouchi around the start of the Battle City tournament, it can be inferred that he is interested in occult themes, and study of his overall Duel Monsters deck structure shows that this is very true. Necromancy, spiritualism, ghosts, and demonlike creatures are a part of the deck Yami Bakura uses against Yugi in the finals of Battle City.

Ryou also shows a deep interest in table-top RPG games, including “Monster World,” which is arguably a Yu-Gi-Oh variant of Dungeons and Dragons or something similar. He has admitted to spending an entire night awake thinking up a campaign, and he owns a great deal of table-top RPG paraphernalia.

More specifically to his personality…as stated, Ryou is usually considered in-canon as a side-character when he’s not possessed by his Yami. And this is true, as well as proven consistent by the way he is excluded from even joining Yugi, Anzu, Honda, and Jonouchi in viewing the Pharaoh’s memories for “containing evil in his heart.” It boils down to his unimportance without his Yami.

Because of this, and in part due to his penchant to dwell on the side of dark themes, he tends to take a fatalistic outlook on things concerning himself when the chips are down. And he can be very overemotional when pushed, as seen again, when he was banned from viewing the Pharaoh’s memories. He bolted from the room in tears. But just as he can express his sorrow openly, Bakura also has a strength of heart that cannot be dampened entirely. The very first time he met Yugi and friends, his Yami arranged for them to start a campaign of “Monster World,” and through cheating and use of the Millennium Ring, sealed all of the others’ souls into their lead figures…with the exception of Yugi’s alter-ego, Yami Yugi. Later in the game, Bakura makes his presence known by controlling the game's computer, influencing his own alter-ego’s rolls negatively, imposing his own NPC character into the game, and eventually sacrificing his soul to make sure his friends were safe.

Bakura has a very polite outward demeanor, which makes him easy to be taken advantage of, and leads to bullying. Karita, the gym teacher at his high school, even went so far as to demand he cut his hair, yanking on it and saying he was not to return without having gotten a crew cut by the next school day. Ryou doesn’t say anything to this, and just asks to be left alone by his peers once the teacher stops picking on him.

Another attribute that should be noted is that Bakura is quite smart. Being one of Yugi’s only friends short of Jonouchi who actually follows the game of Duel Monsters, he is the one who usually makes commentary on the matches in the anime, and explains strategy out. He would probably be far more successful and independent if not for the spirit of the ring, given that he successfully—if unwillingly—is able to live alone in his apartment, and run his own campaigns in Monster World as the “Dark Master” (It pretty much equates to a DM for a DnD game, let’s be real).

History: (Note that, because of how little is actually expressly stated about Ryou Bakura’s personal life, a lot of this is headcanoned, as it would be for a Fandom OC)

Ryou is the son of an archaeologist, a man who is infrequently around to see his son. The fact of the matter is that his father is the only immediate family Bakura has left. When first speaking to Yugi and friends about his circumstances, Ryou appears to be forthcoming with saying that his family no longer lives with him, and that his constant transferring has estranged him from living with them at all. The truth of this is that his mother and sister are deceased, passed away in a car accident years ago. He still writes letters to his sister Amane in a manner akin to diary entries, referring to both her and his mother as if they might just be living in an estranged environment. This isn’t the first time Bakura’s been untruthful with information, but it is one of the few times he gets away with it entirely. No one in the series really asks him much about his family anyway, so he doesn’t have to talk about it. Call it lying by omission.

Bakura’s mother was Japanese, but his father is English, which accounts for his being bilingual and for his English accent. He was born in Japan, but his father’s archaeology work naturally brought the family to many places, not the least of which was, conveniently enough, England itself. They lived there for a short period when Ryou was young in order for his father to pursue studies in the field of Egyptology, and it wasn’t a permanent settlement by any means, because Ryou’s mother had a tendency towards homesickness, and her husband could only indulge her. It was something he eventually came to regret, as it was in Japan that both wife and daughter were killed.

The years leading up to it were not nearly so bad, however. At least, not as bad as they could have been. Ryou and Amane were bright, happy children; perfect siblings who got along, took care of each other, and shared every moment they could. Even though Amane was some years younger, she was something of a support system to her older brother, who unfortunately had a very big physical difference from her and her father, yet something he shared with his mother.

Ryou was born with a degree of albinism. His hair is silvery white while his skin is pale, though his eyes are dark brown. His mother shared this trait with him. Amane however, turned out with black hair and brown eyes, albeit in a similar style to her brother’s. She was a full year younger than him and attended different classes than he did, so for the most part, Amane did not see how her brother was ostracized at first, and didn’t understand it. She just knew he was unhappy with himself, and chose to try and uplift him in any way she could. She would style her hair like his, clamor for his attention until he was too distracted to be upset…do anything to make him laugh. Ryou was ever so appreciative…it was quite endearing to him.

So when his family was broken apart…things became different. Radically different.

His father threw himself into his work more than ever, and they moved to a different part of Japan. Ryou drew into himself. There was a length of time that he wouldn’t speak at all, he’d just go along with his schoolwork. He was intelligent and answered when spoken to, but only at that time. And all of the bullies, all of the boys that would make fun of him for his white hair and pale skin…those boys that Amane never really understood she helped protect his feelings from…he could ignore them because he simply didn’t care anymore. His sister wasn’t there, why should he care?

His behavior was eventually noticed by a counselor in school, someone who realized the young boy was not presenting as happily as he should, nor socializing with his classmates like the other gradeschoolers should be doing at his age. And while she couldn’t get him to talk too much about the issue, she did get him to discuss a little bit about Amane, enough for the woman to discern what Ryou was feeling. She suggested a small exercise that might help him feel better—writing letters to his sister.

…Admittedly, Bakura never stopped. And honestly, there wasn’t much need to. He felt like he was able to socialize again, and it made him happy to talk to his sister again. Even if he couldn’t really speak to her, sending letters to a pen pal…it felt real. Even if they never wrote back. So he’d write diaries of letters to Amane. It was a habit he never disclosed to his father.

The older Ryou got, the more his father became estranged from him. And the older Ryou got, the more he began to feel that it had something to do with the way he looked. He harbored no illusions here: he had his father’s facial structure perhaps, his severe eyebrows if he ever got angry. But his eyes, the hair…and the smile. It was his mother’s. It probably hurt to see…and he didn’t fault his father for wanting to look away from that a bit. But the man seemed to feel neglectful of his only family, and while he would travel for his archaeology career, he would visit sometimes, spend days at home and ask Ryou how he was, what he was up to and his interests, how he was doing in school..and he would always bring a gift for Ryou’s birthday.

It was on Ryou’s fifteenth that his father brought him the Millennium Ring. Ryou thought it was extremely impressive, and it seemed to resonate with him. By this point in his life, he’d begun to take an interest in the occult, and his father had therefore bought him this ring in a merchant’s bazaar, hearing that it possessed some sort of link to Ancient Egyptian lore steeped in darkness, and that it was supposedly “cursed” or some such thing. He didn’t believe in such things, but it was an interesting piece of history, with an interesting shape at that. So he brought it to his son. Ryou took a very keen liking to the Ring, and wore it at all times. It was a very tangible and nice reminder that yes, he did have family, and yes, his family did still care about him, even if he wasn’t always around.

As far as his social life went after Amane and his mother’s passing, Ryou did suffer some stress and bullying. He was always accustomed to the bullying before, and now was no different. Writing letters helped to distract him, and just because he was different didn’t mean he couldn’t find a shared interest with others. His calling, it seemed, was in table top RPGs. A few years before he transferred to Domino High, he was introduced to Monster World, and took a liking to the concept. By the time he was in his freshman year, he was an accomplished Dark Master making his own campaigns, creating his own boards, and crafting his own pieces. He was quite good at it too. Of course…it was also around this time that strange things began to happen. Friends he made, the sparse few that took an interest in what he did…they began to fall into strange comas after playing with him. It became enough of a burden that even he couldn’t avoid the sheer discrimination and blame for it. He transferred many times, and while his father did pay for it…he was unhappy until he finally settled at Domino High. There, he met Yugi, Jonouchi, Anzu, and Honda. All of them seemed to accept him fairly well, and although he did have a nasty brush with the gym teacher that ended in a threat and an unfair order to cut his long, white hair…Bakura didn’t seem to mind.

It was that night, though…that he finally became aware of the spirit housed in his pendant. A spirit that insisted it only wanted to protect its “landlord,” and to “pay rent” for sharing a body with him. That was the first time he was aware that he’d been possessed, not that he knew what had happened. But the spirit hinted enough for him to infer previously that it was he who had hospitalized Ryou’s friends, by way of shadow games, and that he sought to steal Yugi’s Millenium Puzzle now.

Bakura does very little, and there isn’t much he can do, while his Yami steals his new friends’ souls and runs them through the Monster World gauntlet. Only through their luck are they able to injure the enemy boss, Zorc, enough to affect Yami Bakura, to whom he seems to have a connection. Severing Zorc’s hand seems to free Ryou to use it, and he sabotages the dark spirit several times before that very hand is impaled upon a castle spire. Through Zorc’s wound, his own NPC is willed into the game to help his friends, and by sheer force of will, he interrupts Yami Bakura’s soul sealing spell, which is meant to put a piece of the dark spirit’s soul into a set of “Doppleganger Dice” so that he will roll perfect for his last turn. Instead of using part of Yami Bakura’s soul, Ryou forces his own soul into the dice to destroy them.

This is the first time he’s foiled his Yami, showing great resolve and bravery, as well as self-sacrifice, but not the last. Throughout Duelist Kingdom, he’s fairly free of his Yami’s influence, though he does still, for whatever reason, wear the Millennium Ring. It proves helpful in leading the group through the caves they get trapped in by Bandit Keith Howard, though it is then that he is beseeched again by the supposedly-long-gone spirit to accept his help. The spirit offers to help Ryou solve the riddle that the Meikyuu brothers are subjecting Yugi and Jonouchi to, which he seems to accept, because the spirit does indeed speak out in assistance. Then he’s gone again, and Ryou seems not to notice.

The next time he appears…is to steal Pegasus’ Millennium Eye fresh from the socket, something Ryou once again seems unaware of. Just as he’s unaware of his spirit offering to “help” Yugi in Otogi’s game shop, when he’s faced with a maddened old man possessed with the thought of revenge against the Mutou line, and the subsequent sealing of the spirit’s soul—partially—into Yugi’s Puzzle.

Ryou remains woefully unaware of anything his spirit does during Battle City for the most part too, including his escapades through the museum searching for the Millenium Necklace/Tauk, his deal with Malik, and he’s pretty clueless on the fact that it’s his Yami who had cut his arm open in the first place and hospitalized him through half of the tournament.

Hell, he hardly seems aware that he’s a finalist in the tournament because he never meant to participate. Of course…that’s how it usually is…and it wouldn’t be the last time he would be used.

CHARACTER
Name: Machi Tobaye
Canon: Ace Attorney
Age: 14/15
Timeline: Approximately 8 months post-canon
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: Klavier wants pretty much nothing to do with Machi. The entire escapade was a bunch of bad news for him--his guitar was set on fire while he was playing it, he was used as an unwitting mule to smuggle an incredibly illegal object into the U.S., his best friend (and bassist) was a murderer... nope. If Machi wanted to apologise, great, but otherwise no. And Machi would prefer to avoid Klavier--the whole "tried really hard to convict Machi of murder" thing does not make him feel great and in fact between that and his incredible level of active guilt in the whole thing... yeah he'd sooner avoid the man. Basically "don't bother me and I won't bother you."

Personality: The 'other half' of Lamiroir--Lamiroir says at one point in the game that she and Machi together are 'Lamiroir,' and in a way this is quite true. Prior to the murder and trial, the two were never separated and had almost a symbiotic relationship--they were always seen together, hand in hand, 'The Siren of the Ballad' and 'the Pixie of the Arpeggio.' He is very devoted to her and has dedicated his life to her, whether she realises it still or not. On his own, Machi is generally a very smart, gentle boy, but does not do well around people he does not know. In fact, with the exception of Lamiroir (and possibly Daryan), his attitude towards others could best be described as either "indifferent" or "uneasy," depending--at worst, he's visibly nervous and sometimes easily startled; Machi is shy around strangers and hard to get to know because of it. In fact, if you push him towards conversations he doesn't want to have, he can even become downright abrasive, although usually that's a good sign you screwed up somewhere.

Coming from a world where a lot of people are either fundamentally good or fundamentally bad, Machi is a little bit of both--possibly fifty percent on each side, possibly a little more of one than the other. Either way, he's in significantly more conflict than most and struggles with his actions a lot. Machi sees himself as bad, but refuses to identify himself as such, trying very hard to be the good person Lamiroir wants him to be. He tells lies (a lot) and manipulates others, but is also completely and unnecessarily honest, alternating erratically between the two and creating a very hypocritical (and possibly dangerous) persona in the wake of his conviction. I don't know whether in his heart Machi is fundamentally bad or good, but I know that whichever of the two manifests depends as much on the people around him as the events that shape his life... and that there will always be that other part of him as well, just not always demonstrated. For Machi, it's not so much a question of moralities as it is a question of loyalties. He wants to do the right thing. He just doesn't know what the right thing is yet.

There's also his 'darkness'... Lamiroir alludes to it at the end of case 4-3. Lying isn't necessarily all he's capable of.

Machi's great love is the piano. He directs himself towards music obsessively and often ignores other people in favour of the piano, preferring the company of music to the company of other human beings. Machi himself is very withdrawn and stoic (read: unresponsive to or afraid of dealing with people); however, his playing is far more expressive and emotional than is, and carries a lot of feeling that he himself could never express. In fact, it could be theorised (possibly incorrectly, possibly not) that he expresses himself through his music rather than through verbal or visual communication--i.e. normal communicative means. Regardless, he's definitely a prodigy. I've had one person on the spectrum describe Machi as a little autistic, and that might be a good way to describe him; however, he does become braver and more normal-acting when you get to know him (or rather, he gets to know you and becomes comfortable around you--it helps when he knows what to expect, which takes a while), so I'm not entirely sure that's accurate. That said, his understandings of things are often very abnormal, and this often compounds his presentation as something of an oddball. This, coupled with his perpetual stoicism and sometimes irrationally rigid adherence to rules that may or may not have a bearing on the situation, means that he is sometimes impenetrable--very often right when he needs to be understood the most. His sporadic kindness is as much a strength as a weakness, as it may be taken advantage of--on the flip side of this, his paranoia and mistrust can prevent him from seeking help when he actually needs it, or making friendships when they are available. And gentle though he is, he is not afraid to get his hands dirty. He is partially dedicated to surviving in a country whose language he understands poorly, and occasionally gets extremely frustrated flustered in dealing with other people. If it gets really bad, he may abandon the situation and run away. A people person Machi is not.

Ironically, Machi has a problem with facing his problems--he avoids them, runs away, or pretends not to know they're there instead of taking on even simple dilemmas out of fear of doing the wrong thing. He doesn't like confrontation, and violence is something he seeks to avoid. This probably has something to do with the above, as well as his very limited and unusual life experiences, which leave him ill-equipped to deal with normal day to day things (though he has learned a lot), let alone unusual and more drastic or complicated situations. He is somewhat prone to panic and indecision because of this, and is very nervous around unfamiliar things.

Unfortunately, he's also prone to excessive stoicism.

One thing to remember about Machi, however, is that he is smart. No matter how much trouble he has with English or seeing things the right way, or how scared he may be, he is extremely clever and resourceful and may surprise you when you least expect it. That is all.

Re: [CANON] Machi Tobaye || Ace Attorney || Reserved || 2 of 3

[personal profile] machitobaye 2013-08-03 08:42 am (UTC)(link)
Background: Machi was born in a small country called Borginia, located in northern Europe, where he played piano at various restaurants to make a living, sleeping in alleys and doorways at night and generally ekeing out an existence as a homeless orphan in a tiny country as best he could. Eventually he met Lamiroir, a blind singer who he treated with great kindness; the two of them grew quite close and Lamiroir grew fond of the sound of his piano. He was pretty young when they met--only nine or ten, and as an orphan, Machi probably didn't have a lot of prospects. However, the two of them grew quite close and Lamiroir grew fond of the sound of his piano, so she stipulated his presence in her contract when she was scouted, and the two were always seen together--literally, as the two were always hand in hand, both in public and in private.

There was in fact a second, hidden reason for the constant contact, however--though blind, Lamiroir was billed as "the landscape painter in sound," supposedly because she painted what she saw through her music. Her production team was unaware of her blindness when they billed the catchphrase, and by the time the mistake was caught, it was too late... so Machi pretended to be blind instead and kept up the deception while actually leading her and drawing symbols into her hand to signal important things that she needed to "see." Lamiroir's blindness was a very closely kept secret, and in fact its secrecy was also part of their contract, as was Machi's perfectly normal vision.

At some point, however, Machi found himself in need of a very large sum of money, far more than he could ever hope to make, and ended up agreeing to help a Stateside police detective named Daryan Crescend smuggle a very rare cocoon--called a Borginian cocoon--into the United States for money. This was an extremely dangerous operation, as the transport of said cocoon was highly illegal and being convicted of its smuggling carried a death sentence in Borginia. This was in part because of the cocoon's uses--on the one hand, it was required to make a potent curative--the only cure, in fact--for a rare but fatal disease called 'incuritis.' On the other hand, it could also be synthesised into an extremely powerful poison, called atroquinine. Nigh-undetectable, atroquinine was fast-acting and untreatably lethal, even in small doses. Despite this, Machi got the cocoon to the States, a feat he accomplished by hiding it inside a guitar belonging to a famous prosecutor/rock star named Klavier (Daryan, by the way, was a bassist in said star's band)... a guitar that Lamiroir had gifted to the man after meeting and composing a song with him. Klavier, unaware, vacuum-sealed and express-shipped the instrument to the U.S., bypassing many checkpoints and safety points with his legal status--basically, he had it handled as evidence, and thereby inadvertently prevented the cocoon's detection. Unfortunately, Lamiroir's new manager, Romein LeTouse, was an undercover agent who was looking for cocoons, among other things. And when Lamiroir and Machi went to Britain to do a concert with Klavier's band... LeTouse was murdered. In the middle of the concert. With his own gun. Machi was accused of the crime, largely on the premise that he was one of the few available (i.e. not on stage) at the time of the murder and he was the only one small enough to escape through the air vents, which were the only conceivable exit. And, too, there was the delicate international status of the crime itself (not to mention the scandal of the trial itself), and a political desire to get things wrapped up as quickly as possible. As the trial went on, it was first concluded that the murder was apparently both staged and committed to the lyrics of the song Lamiroir and Klavier had composed together. The truth of Machi's vision--and Lamiroir's--was revealed quickly, making it clear that Machi could very well have seen to commit the murder. Later, however, outside evidence and testimony revealed that Daryan had in fact both set up and framed Machi after killing LeTouse, using the song to get away with it. Machi himself had secretly destroyed the cocoon during the concert, on Daryan's signal, which was issued when Daryan realised they had been discovered. Unfortunately, in order to convict Daryan of this, they first had to get Machi to talk--something they could only do after discovering he could understand English, albeit in a limited fashion. Despite Daryan's pleas and arrogant dismissal of Machi, the pianist finally confessed, revealing that he had actually witnessed the crime, and--frightened--hidden behind a dresser before fleeing up through an air vent, where he had been caught by Daryan and knocked out, who had then set Machi and the corpse up in a way that mimicked the lyrics. Once caught in the dressing room, Daryan had murdered LeTouse in panic and framed Machi afterwards.

In short, Machi was not guilty of murder.

He was, however, guilty of perjury, and what was--in his home country--a capital crime. Just as bad as murder, as far as the end result was concerned.

The revelation that the United States did not view it as harshly was a key reason that Machi was absolved of the murder charge to begin with--had Apollo not declared this to the court, he may very well have gone to death row. Instead, Daryan, losing control, revealed his own guilt, and Machi was absolved of one crime but found guilty of another, and he has spent the past eight months in prison. It is from this point in canon that I pull him.

CHARACTER
Name: Makoto Naegi
Canon: Danganronpa: Academy of Hope and High School Students of Despair
Age: 17/18
Timeline: End of the first game.
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?:N/A

Personality:

Makoto Naegi is the sort of person who could be essentially called an “average guy”. Not only can we see this by how we’re given Naegi’s point of view throughout the game, but this is often stated by Naegi himself along the story, more than once; in fact, it’s basically how he introduces himself to the player/viewer off the bat. Ironically enough, it’s his average quality that makes him stand out among his peers, but first, we need to go through Naegi’s personality and events he’s been through to truly understand how he functions.

As said before, Naegi is an “average guy”, a normal highschool student, self proclaimed and proved. When he finds himself having been randomly chosen to attend the revered Hope’s Peak Academy (a special high school reserved for the best of the best in each area, with the exception of a single random lottery selected student each year, who is given the title of Super High School Level Good Luck by simply being selected), he shows some doubt over whether he truly belongs in such a place, possessing no unique qualities or any noticeable feature. He goes as far as saying he’s “An average person among average people”.
Further into the story, in a conversation with his classmate Chihiro Fujisaki, when asked if he has any sort of complex, Naegi directly confesses his insecurity about being a normal student, surrounded by those of “Super High School Level”. When asked how exactly he overcomes this issue, Naegi states that he can’t - so he just simply tries to accept it as a fact - along with explaining how, in his belief, everyone has their own complexes, and how time shouldn’t be lost brooding about them, but immersing oneself in a way to better themselves and forgetting about these problems.

This brings up another of Naegi’s traits, one that’s stated as possibly his “only” unique feature: his optimism. Naegi never really lets himself fall into doubt and insecurities for too long. Despite the awful situations that he and his classmates face, despite all the traumatizing events he experiences, he’s often the first person to claim that no one can lose hope. This characteristic drives him through the story, and, without it, there’s a high possibility that things would have gone in extremely different ways, to the point of fatality.
His optimism proves itself to be an incredibly practical feature, one that seems to lack in some of his classmates. With his ability to spot even the smallest bit of positivity even in the darkest, or strangest, or most awkward situations, Naegi managed to gain the friendship of most of his classmates, even the most moody or aggressive, like Mondo Oowada, Touko Fukawa, Byakuya Togami; he even managed to gain the trust of Kyouko Kirigiri, who, while not exactly aggressive or moody, does have a particular way of keeping herself from fully trusting others. Naegi manages to strike a particularly close friendship with her, going as far as lying/omitting crucial information in one of the class trials to save her life, only to be, as far as it seemed in the moment, betrayed by the person he had just saved. She later save his life, for a second time during the plot, in fact. This, coupled with several other more personal moments between the two, reveals the strong bond of friendship and trust they both formed.
It’s also of notice how his optimism translates into trust while dealing with some of his classmates; although he’s not entirely naive, there are some times when his positive outlook doesn’t work as well as expected. For example, during the first chapter of the story, Naegi finds himself infatuated to his classmate Sayaka Maizono, who had gone to the same school as him in the past, but they had never spoken, due to their different social standards. Sayaka, recognizing Naegi from the time when she witnessed him capturing and nursing a crane, that had injured itself when it broke into the school and got stuck in the pool, back to health and confessing to having wanted to talk to him ever since, quickly befriends and charms Naegi. It is unclear if Sayaka returned Naegi’s feelings; but when it is revealed that she went to great lengths to frame Naegi for murder so that she could buy her own freedom from Hope’s Academy, he still does his best to deny that possibility. Unfortunately, this accusation is proven, leaving him devastated. After the trial, Kirigiri does theorize that, during her last moments, Sayaka must have regretted her actions, leaving behind a crucial clue to clear Naegi’s name.
Despite this, and despite the murderous and treacherous actions among his classmates, Naegi still states that he doesn’t blame them; that the situation they found themselves in pushed them into doing such awful acts, and that he will continue fighting, for freedom and for all of them, showing both great perseverance and trust.

Naegi is noticeably passive, most of the time. This can be easily seen by the way he interacts with his classmates. He tends to mostly listen, more often than not sounding a bit awkward or surprised by the things he hears, but he still does his best to lend an ear, specially to those who seemed troubled. He often keeps his most, perhaps, possibly “offensive” thoughts to himself, as a way to not spark any sort of argument or any sort of negative consequence. This ties to how many of the students find him trustworthy; some of his classmates, like Sakura Oogami and Chihiro Fujisaki seem to feel gradually more at ease as they continue to speak with him, revealing details about their lives and asking questions that perhaps they wouldn’t with the rest, or at least most of their peers.

Naegi’s optimism and connections with his classmates prove themselves crucial to their survival. Nearing the ending of the game story, all the surviving characters are put on the line to make the heaviest decision yet, one that could easily cost not only their freedom, but their actual lives. When things look the bleakest and they’re all on edge and about to give up, Naegi’s words of hope and encouragement manage to soothe them and help them clear their minds and make the right choice. With this, his surviving friends bestow upon him the title of Super High School Level Hope, in honor of his performance and how, without his words, they could have lost any chance of freedom.

Naegi is then, indeed, an average high school student, plunged into situations he had never dreamed of before. But, thanks to his (somewhat overlooked, in the beginning, by himself) skills, he perseveres, he keeps on moving, he comforts and cheers on, and he truly wins his title as Super High School Level Hope, prepared to face any other straining situations that might be thrown upon him and his friends.

Abilities:

While Naegi doesn’t possess any sort of unusual or special abilities (often stated by Naegi himself, proclaiming himself as a normal high school student), he does have one distinguishing feature that makes him stand out among his classmates: his optimism. Naegi himself states it as his best characteristic, and, during the plot, it’s not only proven several times by his perseverance during the toughest times and his ability to befriend even his most moody or aggressive classmates, but it also became an important factor for his and his classmates’ survival.
I can also be stated that he does have good observational skills, though they don’t even come close to his classmate Kirigiri’s (who is often the one to lead him in the right path, along with, at times, Togami Byakuya).

First Person:.

[ He opens his eyes. As the light floods in, he can’t help but to squint, sitting up on his chair. Turning his head slowly, he looks around at the cabin. It’s empty...He wonders where everyone else is--

...wait. A cabin?!

He bolts up onto his feet, taking another look around, frantically. This isn’t-- he can’t be here, he never stepped into a train. Where’s everyone else? This isn’t right.]

Hello?
Is anybody there?!

[ The lack of response makes him increasingly nervous.
No no no no no, why now? Why, after everything that happened-- how is this even possible?!

Finding one of the doors, he looks outside. ...an empty station. With careful steps, he exits the traint alert to any sounds or movements. Is this another trap? But he’s...he’s sure he saw... he was so sure it had ended.]

Huh?

[ He reaches into his pocket and takes out the peculiar watch, popping it open. It doesn’t look like any pocket watch he’s ever seen. What are all these buttons? How did it even get in his pocket?

The network gets a clear view of his face, looking as confused and nervous as any newcomer.
He notices it is apparently filming him. But he’s unaware of who exactly might be watching.]

What...is this thing?...

[He starts pressing some of the buttons at random, hoping that something can clear this up.]

Third Person:

It was sort of cold, but he didn’t mind. In all honesty, he couldn’t get enough of the fresh air nowadays. He always heard people say things like “you don’t know what you have until it’s gone”, and he finally understood what they meant.

The fresh air wasn’t the only reason he was walking around. It was getting dark, he should probably be careful; he didn’t know the city that well yet, and he wasn’t sure if there wasn’t somebody who might not have the best intentions. But still, he needed to walk.
It’s still so much to process. Everything that happened in the last few weeks, all the new information, all the things in the school, all the people he met and lost. And, most recently, suddenly showing up in a strange city full of strange people and strange creatures from many strange worlds. After everything, he finally had a chance to stop, to breathe, to...finally take it all in. It was overwhelming, all in all.

If someone were to ask him, right then, if he felt safe...he wouldn’t know what to answer. A bit relieved, yes. Still mostly confused. Safe...he’d learn that you can’t just take safety for granted. Forcefully so.

He was crossing one of the bridges when he glanced at the setting sun. He hadn't seen it in goodness knows how long. It was really beautiful, something so simple. To think, after being stuck inthere for so long, he was finally out. The others, too...they did it. Not everything was resolved yet, but they did it.
He didn't notice when a smile took over his face. They did it, they won....they won their freedom. And, maybe, there was still a lot of trouble waiting for them. Maybe there was still a rough road ahead...but, somehow, somehow, he knew things were going to be okay. He knew it.
He just needed to have hope.

{[CANON] HENRY MILLS || Once Upon A Time || Reserve || 2 of 2}

[personal profile] inmybook 2013-08-10 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality:
Henry is a brave and optimistic young boy. He grew up in a small town where just about everyone knew his name. But then his teacher gave him a book, and Henry's eyes were opened to a world beneath the world he knew. A world where people were trapped and unhappy and they didn't even know it. It's this book that defines the Henry we know. Not because he believes that the people within it are the people he knows and cares about, but because of what Henry chooses to do with this knowledge.

Henry believes he needs to fix things. Find a way to break the curse so the people of Storybrooke will remember their old lives and be happy again. He believes this so strongly that it becomes a responsibility as much as it is a hope. When he goes looking for Emma, it is not just to find the mother he has never known, but to find the Hero who will break the curse.

His faith in people is not blind. He has an innate sense for right and wrong, helped further by his suspicions of who certain people are in relation to the fairytales. And while he may not always get it right, he is clever enough, and intuitive enough, to know better than to trust the wrong person or do the wrong thing. It's both his fate and this innate inner sense that make him all the more determined to believe in Emma's ability to break the curse.

But faith alone is not enough, and that's okay. Because Henry is a brave boy who doesn't know when to give up. He's willing to go the distance to prove the curse is real and to save the people he cares about, in surprising ways from such a young boy. He even risks his own life biting into the poisoned turnover to prove to Emma that magic was real and make her finally believe. And that bravery doesn't end with the curse.

Blame it on genetics, but Henry is as stubborn as he is brave. When he believes in something or someone, it takes a lot to shift that view, and even when it happens it is very easy for Henry to begin to believe again. He is a hero, and in a way he was born to be one. Nearly unshakeable faith, willingness to sacrifice himself, and bravery to stand up for what he believes in, even when it means facing up to hard facts or adults he shouldn't be antagonizing. He's not afraid to speak his mind. If he believes someone is bad, or not doing the right thing, he will tell them so, and he will do it with all the self-righteousness of a boy who knows what he believes in and what he defines as right and wrong.

It may be that fantasy was an easier escape from reality, but nothing about breaking the curse on Storybrooke was easy, and figuring out his life after the curse was no simpler. Storybrooke was still in chaos, and so was Henry's life. But determined boy that he is, Henry holds fast to his beliefs and for the most part he never gives up, and never loses faith. He does long for his own adventure. He wants to be the Hero of his own story, but what little boy doesn't want to see himself be the hero?

Background:
Henry Mills at OUaT Wiki

Abilities:
Shy of being just an overall good kid and having a lot of faith in people (Especially Emma) Henry has no abilities

First Person:
Hello?

[Henry was certain he had heard the watch talking when he pressed one of the buttons along its sides. But he had been going through the buttons so quickly he had shut it off and now he wasn't sure how to make it come back. The last button he had pressed had activated audio so that was what he was broadcasting now. Though he was not aware of that yet. He held the watch up to his ear before looking down at it with a little frown]

Can you hear me? Don't worry. I'm not going to hurt you. You can talk again. Are you a magic watch? Is that it?

[He turned it around in his hands a few times, chin resting on his knees]

Come on, don't be shy. Say something else.

[This watch, for all he knew, might be the only living creature around.]

Third Person:
Henry has his arms wrapped around his knees on a bench in the train station, staring at the round little watch he had found in his pocket and smoothing his fingers over it. Everything had gone so strange and hectic. One minute he was with his friends and family and the next he was being dragged away, pulled into a portal to another place, another world. It would have been exciting if it had been other circumstances. If it had been Emma he was exploring other worlds with and not his kidnappers dragging him away from everything.

When he had woken on the train, alone, he had been scared. But Henry was a tough little kid. He had swallowed his fear and explored the train until it stopped at the station. If this was another world, then all he had to do was find a way to get home. He could do that. It'd be his very own adventure. Hadn't he wanted to be the Hero?

He flipped the pocketwatch open, curiosity, for the moment, a distraction from anything else. And one he needed right now. He had been severed from his family, from his home, and sent far away all alone. That was a lot for any eleven year old. But he was also the boy who believed. The one who knew the real story, or at least, parts of the real stories of the people of Storybrooke. That was enough to make him believe he could do this. He would find a way home. And Emma had to be looking for him. He knew she would be. So whatever happened, he would find his family again.

He just had to take that first step into his own story. And that first step began with the unusual watch in his hands. It was simple on the outside, a silver metal and not much to look at. But the screen inside wasn't like an ordinary watch, and Henry pressed at the buttons as he watched it. Maybe this was how he was supposed to get back home?
