Russia had an alliance with Germany around this time, and they invade Poland together, throwing the world into WWII, however, in 1941 Russia is betrayed and Germany invades. Once more, Russia relies on the scorched earth policy, and it’s with remarkably similar instances that Napoleon faced that Russia is able to drive out Germany. It is not without casualty however, millions were killed and it left Russia weak and thirsty for revenge.

Which she got.

Pushing the Germans out of her heartlands meant that they had nowhere but towards Germany to go and Russia kept pressing them backwards, capturing and holding the lands between them for the Union. Russia was vicious in her pursuit, and she does eventually manage to catch up with Germany. With the end of WWII Russia rises to the position of a superpower, and this also kicks off the Cold War. Insert nuclear threats, arms races, space races and just all out tension between Russia and America for the next half a century and you get the picture. There’s a lot more detail I could go into this because it was obviously a big deal between not only Russia and America, but the rest of the world who basically had to wait on pins and needles to see if the two superpowers would unleash nuclear annihilation on each other and the world.

By the time of Khrushchev’s reign, Russia was a little better at holding herself together and controlling the little slips of mania she occasionally had. This goes hand in hand with the thaw in the Cold War, though the Cuban Missile Crisis and the end of the thaw does not help much. When the battles pick up in Korea and Vietnam, Russia simply packs up, picks up her gun and heads out to fight once more. Unfortunately for her, she also had to deal with the incredibly disheartening treatment of women soldiers from her own people. Given her strength and sheer force of will, Russia proved herself quite easily, but it is still something I thought to be worth mentioning. It means much to her because it strengthened her belief that she must hold herself up and expect no help. Her already tenuous ability to trust fades further and she pulls away from people. In a sense, she never shows her true self, because she’s been taught and forced into shoving her emotions and reactions down so nobody can get to them and hurt her. Russia is incredibly guarded, and she doesn’t trust easily. This is offset by her dream to live happily with everyone in a warm place filled with sunflowers. But again, it makes perfect sense because one of Russia’s biggest fears is being left all alone. During her time as the Soviet Union, she tried to combat this by “hoarding” other nations, in a sense. For a while it worked and her house was full of others, but they didn’t truly want to be there and fought to get away. Eventually they succeeded, and one by one everyone left Russia behind as they once more gained independence. Shee fought this fiercely, and sometimes in an over the top manner, but it didn’t matter because her government was crashing and she could not keep everyone together.

So they left, and she fell.

In December of 1991, the Soviet Union collapsed and Russia’s economy was down in the dumps. Mobsters took over and she found the corruption inescapable. It does not help when in 1998 the stock market crashes and Russia’s economy once more takes a swan dive into the deep end. But Russia has been slowly working herself up and as of modern day she’s doing relatively okay. Relatively being the key word. That said, some things have definitely not changed.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

Strengths

Physical: Because she is a nation, Anya is physically stronger than an average human would be. She is not as strong as say, America, nor is she as strong as her Russian counterpart would be, but Anya is still capable of a lot. In addition to this, nations have incredible healing skills. This is limited, as it’s influenced by the general state of their nation-form, economy and their people. So if their nation is not doing well, then healing might be the same as a human’s or even slower, but if they’re doing well then healing will go over quickly. This, however, speaks only of personal injury. If a natural disaster or something that affects the nation as a whole wounds them, then it will take infinitely longer to recover from.

Psychological: Again, speaking as a nation and more so, speaking as a female nation, Anya has an incredible will. However, because of the things she’s seen and lived through, this has been tested and Anya is not exactly the most stable of nations.

Emotional: Emotionally, Anya is a bit complicated. She can be manipulative and mothering, caring and disinterested. This stems from the hard past she bears and the fact that as both nation and as a woman, she was not listened to as much as she would have liked to be. She’s incredibly compassionate, however, and tends to want to help people. Children are a weakness of hers and she will instantly mother them.

Weaknesses

Physical: Anya is, as I stated above, strong. However this can be a hindrance to her when she loses control of her strength. Aside from this, Anya is physically rather fit in modern day, but given the state of her economy, she’s actually not in peak health.

Psychological: Again, as mentioned before Anya is not the most stable of nations. This is not something that would prove disastrous for her or others, as it’s not an incredibly major thing. But it’s enough that often she will worry about things and if they will change. She doesn’t have the tendency to shift like Ivan does, nor is she as childishly broken. She does, however, have a rather large amount of trust issues and the inability to seek for help in other people.

Emotional: Anya is sassy and full of wit. But she’s also mercurial and in this, her sass and wit works against people. She’s quick with a sharp reprimand and cold voice if she wants to hurt someone or keep them from hurting her. Likewise her fury is quick and cold, she will not hold back from striking out if someone threatens her and she most certainly is a stereotype of holding a grudge like a woman scorned.

Abilities: In Nation terms, Anya is stronger than an average mortal, heals faster, and is effectively immortal as long as she is not forgotten and her people and Nation exist. In addition, she has an instinctive connection to her land and her people and is able to know them all if she wished. It’s not a one way street, however, as she is influenced by their wishes and their beliefs. In more human like abilities, Anya is an incredibly good shot and is skilled in warfare as well as trained in first aid and all of the more traditional female war time roles that were available. She’s handy with a shashka though not as good as she could be and as it’s an old skill, she’s also a bit rusty with it. Anya is also fluent in several languages, Russian, English, French, as well as Dutch and German to a lesser degree.

Relationships to Canon Characters:

Russia ; Brother and counterpart.
Belarus; Brother and someone she’s uncomfortable with. Wants her to marry him because of reasons.
Ukraine: Brother and confidant, she’s rather close to him but there are bumps in their relationship because of their past and bosses orders. He still won’t pay back his gas debt .
All the other nations; She knows their genderswapped versions but not the mainverse.

First Person:

[The watch doesn’t turn on by accident. It’s something that comes after its owner has spent precious minutes looking over her surroundings, gaze intent upon the unfamiliar streets. So when Anya lets her hands slip into her pockets, she’s startled at the rounded edge of something that’s not her cellphone and plucks the watch from her pocket, brows drawing together.

It’s here that the watch turns on, slender fingers pressing buttons to see what they do. There’s a shot of pale lashes, bright violet eyes and hair of white gold that falls about the watches face. Anya’s intent upon the whatever she’s doing (Which is actually little more than seeing if this button can do more than one thing, but details) and yet it takes her but a few seconds for her gaze to lift and startle upon her visage in the watches’ face. So here, residents, have a smile that’s tinged with just the right amount of curiosity and sheepishness.]

Ah, privjet, I didn’t mean to bother anyone, but could someone tell me when the next train stops by?

[Her voice is soft, professional, and carries a rather heavy Russian accent. She shuts off the feed with another warm smile and settles down to wait for a reply.]

Third Person:

She’s on fire.

It’s in her hair, burning through the hems of her clothes, blood bubbling and blackening as her city burns. And yet Russia stands strong, torch burning brightly in her hand, chin raised as if she wasn’t standing in the middle of a broken, burning street, dirty snow and ash whipping around her.

Dimly Russia becomes aware that her smile has shifted, laughter ripping from her lips, body arching under the force of her mania. And she’s still burning, the stench of metal and wood and people. She can feel it in her bones, body caving in under the hole where her heart used to be. People are screaming around her: French, Russian, pleading and accusing. There’s gun shots and the slice of blades through air and they all fall.

But she’s not just a woman holding the thrum of a nation and its people in her veins. She is an avenger made flesh, torch arching forward to slam into the face of a young Frenchman, teeth bared as his skin blisters and peels under flame, screams jerking half way as he runs out of air. She moves forward with the force of a wildfire, body light and her strikes vengeful. She can feel the buildings fall, the little blips of lives going out a reminder that she’s got to drive out these invaders.

Come now Motherland, protect that which is yours.

And she does, sets people and building alight, pulls a gun from a dead soldier’s hands and shoots down fleeing men. Somewhere out there, France is moving about her own army. Perhaps she’s retreating, perhaps she’s urging them forward. But either way, they’ll meet their fate at her hand or that of her father’s.

And really, hers was a much better way to go.

So Russia stands proud among the burning wreckage of her heart, feels the chill of General Winter’s fingers upon her shoulders, the heat of her burning city licking at her sides and grimly faced she watches France’s men scramble into the forests. She’s lost many men here, can feel it in the thrum of her pulse, the scream of mothers and lovers and children in the roar of her mind. But France has lost just as many, and she’s not prepared for the fierceness of a Russian winter. Already Russia can feel the beat of enemy feet fall and with her job done she turns on her heel.

There’s a burning city to her back, a dying army, but she’s got men to patch up and homes to salvage. The war is not over, it's merely a tide receding from shore.

[Canon] Gailardia Galan Gardios/Guy Cecil || Tales of the Abyss || Reserved || 2/3

[personal profile] brilliant_gardios 2012-08-26 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality: Guy Cecil has, since he was a young child, served House Fabre of the Kingdom of Kimlasca-Lanvaldear. He has played a part in raising Duke Crymzon Herzog fon Fabre’s son, Luke fon Fabre, during his childhood. This was even before Luke was supposedly kidnapped by the Malkuth Empire. He was around seven when he first began his service, and as he was too young to help his caretaker Pere in the garden, he was instead left to entertain the Duke’s son.

In the year ND 2011, the true Luke was kidnapped from his manor home, and replaced with an almost exact replica. Stripped of his memories, the only ones he could depend on were Guy and the crown princess of Kimlasca-Lanvaldear, and Guy found himself growing close to the young boy more and more. This is important to remember, given Guy’s true reason for serving under Duke Fabre.

Through most of the game, it is assumed that Guy has always been Kimlascan and of a low class, when really, he was born of the rivaling Malkuth Empire as Gailardia Galan Gardios (and to be honest how could no one notice that he didn’t have the dark hair and eyes of a typical Kimlascan citizen, but instead the light hair and blue eyes of a Malkuthian? I mean really). His parents were Count Zygmunt Bazan Gardios and Eugenie Cecille-Gardios (His father true Malkuthian and living on the then-existent island of Hod, while his mother was a citizen of Kimlasca who married the Count shortly before the onset of the Hod war. Seeing as Malkuth and Kimlasca were pitted against each other in this war, the marriage brought much shame to his mother’s line). Young Gailardia was born on the Isle of Hod, a truly tragic circumstance since when he was five, the eventual catalyst to the Hod War took place. Kimlasca and Malkuth had always held a tense relationship with one another, and it was only a matter of time before an invasion was imminent, though the building of fomicry technology on the island probably didn’t help to ease matters. Hod was attacked, perhaps due to its isolation from the mainland and primarily Grand Chokmah, the fortress capital of the Empire of Malkuth, and the entire House Gardios was decimated. The order was given by Duke Fabre to spare no one, which the soldiers took very deeply to heart, killing even the women and children in the manor. Gailardia’s sister Marybelle sought to protect him from harm, and with a small contingent of maids, shooed the five year old boy into a fireplace, hiding behind the grate with the express order that he was not to move or make any noise. The fright of approaching Kimlascan soldiers presumably rendered the young noble unconscious, leaving his sister and the remaining maids to protect him. By the time Gailardia came to, there were no survivors. More traumatizing still, he had ended up surrounded by the dead, bloodied bodies of his sister and all the maids that had protected him, the horror of such triggering his lifelong gynophobia. His mind repressed the event, however. So he doesn’t remember the one important thing that gave him his fear, at least not for most of the game.

His personal caretaker/servant Pere, who was not present during the slaughter, eventually arrives at the manor, too late to have saved anyone but the young heir to the House Gardios, and so takes him from the island as fast as he can. This turns out to be for the best, as the island was soon destroyed and sank into the ocean, something Gailardia would not learn the true reasoning for until he became older…which was that one of his closest friends was used for such a dark purpose.

For some time, Gailardia and Pere stayed in the Malkuthian citadel town of St. Binah, until the young noble expressed a wish to work in the House of Duke Fabre. He was, even at this age (or perhaps due to it), overtaken with the want for vengeance. To make the Duke suffer as he had suffered, he planned to kill the man’s son. Hired by one of the Duke’s servants for gardening, Pere introduced Gailardia—or rather Guy Cecil—as a relative. At some point during his long servitude, he encounters another servant of his old home: Vandesdelca Musto Fende, who now goes by Van Grants, probably to hide their true lineages from the Kimlascan family they served. Between the two of them, they intended to kill Luke and destroy House Fabre from the inside.

However, Guy’s plans did not go quite as intended, as after Luke was kidnapped, he was charged with taking care of the boy and reteaching him everything he had forgotten, from his memories to the simple tasks of learning the everyday language and taking care of himself. The inner hatred however, did still exist for some time, as evidenced by his affliction with a Curse Slot. This Curse removes all inhibition and triggers certain feelings in the subconscious, and under it’s influence, Guy attacks Luke several times. Upon the removal and the explanation of what a Curse Slot truly is, Guy is forced to admit his lineage and why he harbored his feelings. He states, however, that he no longer truly feels that way, as Luke did him no harm. Throughout the game, Guy also reveals his plans with Van, and tells the man that he no longer wants any part in what he is doing, as it will result in the death of the world. He also faces his gynophobic tendencies with increasing ease as time passes, at least until he finally remembers why it is that he fears women, and becomes introverted over it. Eventually he realizes that he should not fear the sacrifice his sister and the maids took to save him, and while his phobia is not entirely resolved, he does find it easier to manage.

Upon the resolution of the game, Guy is presumed to have reclaimed his royal lineage and now lives in his home country working for His Majesty Peony Upala Malkuth IX

As far as his personality goes, Guy has always come across as a charismatic and chivalrous character. He tends to be upbeat and positive to counter Luke’s negativity, and has a hard time focusing on the flaws of others. Despite Luke utterly destroying the city of Akzeriuth in a blind and misguided attempt to curry heroic favor, and therefore killing the already-suffering people, Guy was the least harsh of all the party members, instead saying “Don’t make me think any less of you than I already do.” And even despite this, he meets Luke partway through his journey through the Aramis Cavern and expresses a desire to be a part of his group once more, along with Tear. Guy’s not ostentatious, but he can be a little over the top. His first appearance and joining of the party consisted of him vaulting off of a land dreadnaught and freeing Luke, Tear, and Jade from the grips of the enemy after announcing “Enter the Amazing Guy!”

Aside from Jade, Guy tends to be the most observant and perceptive character in the party, and maybe because of that, Jade often asks Guy to explain everything to anyone in-game who needs a synopsis. Guy is also somewhat of a pushover, and not only allows himself to be bullied by Jade, Anise, and Princess Natalia, but he has also been assigned before as the keeper of Emperor Peony’s pet rappigs.

As previously mentioned, Guy has a very acute fear of women, also known as gynophobia. He states in-game that he “Loves women!” but when approached too closely or touched, he reacts by screaming and cowering, as evidenced when Anise jumped onto his back in fear of a mouse, and he pushed her away, protectively covering his head and shaking badly while shouting for her to “get away!” or even when he was introduced to Tear and refused to shake her hand. Eventually it becomes a point of teasing and he doesn’t seem to take terribly to it, though he does beg that the women please stop doing it.

As far as his chivalry goes, Guy does indeed care about the women of the party enough to defend them just as easily as he defends Luke, and has done so for Natalia on more than one occasion. In particular, despite his gynophobia, he has rescued Anise from certain death falling over the edge of a cliff by catching her hand and pulling her up over the edge. It becomes clear then, that when dire circumstances arise, he knows when to put aside his fears and help those he cares about.

Though he’s already bright and cheerful, Guy tends to be even moreso around technology. His room at House Fabre is littered with fontech, and he describes himself as a “fontech buff.” Whether this means he is skilled in assembling said fontech remains to be seen, but he does understand the basics, enough to either spazz or explain the way things work to some of the other party members. Mostly…it’s just spazzing out at how cool he finds it.

Another thing to take note of is that Guy has a special sword-fighting style known as the Sigmund style, which utilizes both the sword and sheath. The former is offensive, while the latter doubles as both but is mainly defensive. He is a master of this style, which requires a katana-like blade rather than the bulky blade of the typical Albert style swordsman, but never drew much attention to it as the Sigimund style is passed down secretly, and links back to his particular house. His blows in this style are less powerful than the Albert style teaches, but they are also swifter and more numerous.

First Person: [Well, this isn’t what he expected. Guy has ridden and driven land dreadnaughts and cargo ships, taken carriages, and he’s even flown in the first functioning airship of his world.

A train is something new to him though. Very impressive actually, as he’s never seen that caliber of fontech before.

But the fact still stands that this doesn’t look like Grand Chokmah, or any part of Malkuth or Kimlasca. He’s unsure of where he is, and that’s saying something! He’s been across the whole of Auldrant!

It doesn’t take him long to find that he’s got a watch clenched in his gloved hand, and he prods at the object, causing it to open. Bright blue eyes widen, and he peers into the thing curiously.]

This place is loaded with fontech I haven’t seen before. I wonder if I can take this apart and have a look inside…
Third Person: Guy had never suspected that he would eventually come to terms with his hatred for House Fabre. He’d always depended on his hatred to lead him on the path of vengeance, and even now he wondered what had changed.

It didn’t take long, it never did, to realize that if Van had never kidnapped Asch from his home and left a replica in his place…that Guy probably would never have diverted from his intended path. If he hadn’t needed to teach and raise the young man with no memories up, and if he hadn’t been treated so fondly by Luke as he learned more and more, then things would have been very, very different. He probably wouldn’t be alive today, for grand treason and impersonation of a Kimlascan all in the same go. Van might have been successful in destroying the world…because then who would help talk sense into that red-haired idiot?

“Ah, it’s not even worth thinking about, is it?” he said quietly, laughing to himself as he reached out and ran a hand across one of Emperor Peony’s rather large pet rappigs. The fingers reached up to scratch between the creature’s long rabbit ears, causing it to grunt in approval of his attention. “Is it, Guy?”

Really, His Majesty was something else, naming a rappig after him. He could understand now why this was always awkward to Jade.

Alright, here is a revision o/

---

[It takes John a while to wake himself up, the rocking of the vehicle he's in not helping with his drowsiness. When he comes to, he recognizes the vehicle as a train, although it's not like the trains that take him down to Brighton, or even the tube…so he officially worries.]

Sherlock?

[The lack of response only makes his concern grow, and he wonders if the criminals they were chasing after had something to do with this.

Damn it, the last thing he needs right now is to be hauled off in a train, to God knows where. He thinks of two possibilities: One, he was in big trouble, or two…]

Mycroft, if this is your doing, I have to say you went a bit over the top with your kidnapping methods.

[There is more silence then, and John decides to opt for the safer means of communication: his mobile. But when he reaches into his pocket and finds himself with not a phone, but some sort of odd pocket watch, something in his head immediately clicks and he decides:

He's in big trouble.]

[Hong Kong steps off the train, for a moment he appears unsure about what he has done. Thinking about it he can’t really recall ever getting on the train in the first place. The desolate station he is standing at offers no answers; everything is quiet save for the sounds coming from the train.

Hong Kong then lifts his hand and upon opening it a pocket watch is revealed. He gives it a brief quizzical look before he tries getting back on the train. That is not possible as the doors are shut and the train begins chugging along on its way.]

Now what?

[He does not expect anyone to answer him.]

So, I guess I'll be like be on my own or something.

[Since standing around the stations does not help him in any way he begins walking in search for anyone with information all the while fiddling with the pocket watch. All that time it does not occur to him that the pocket watch can be broadcasting a video of his every move. That is until then.]

That’s kind of lame.
