A note for CR AU applications
Ruby City does allow previous game history/CR to be brought over on a case by case basis. If you want to include this in your application please add additional sections for PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT and PREVIOUS GAME HISTORY beneath the Personality and Background/History sections.

In these additional sections we would like to see a brief outline of your character's previous game history and how it potentially impacted on and altered their canon personality.

(New parts will be in italics) Archie Hopper is, on the surface, a pretty composed middle aged man. Working as a therapist in Storybrook, his temprement is suited to that. It's assumed he has several clients at his practice, but his interactions as a threapist have only been shown with Henry and Regina, and during both sessions he's demonstrated patience and understanding of how to give professional suggestions to both of them.

He's very observant, as demonstrated when he pointed out that Henry was lying about being on a field trip, but his observations can cloud his judgment. He can be quick to act when someone is in danger ("That still small voice", when he goes into the mine to find Henry) which can lead to disregarding his own safety; which shows his compassion for others. This may be due to his past as Jiminy Cricket but this is just speculation on my part.

Archie has a compassionate frankness in the episode "An Apple Red as Blood", during his conversation with Emma. He side-steps the choice of agreeing or disagreeing with her regarding Henry's situation, but points out what she may or may not have seen: That her actions were hurting Henry.

He's shown being protective of both his patients and very slightly of his routine in the episode "The Doctor" when Doctor Whale enters his office during his session with Regina, Archie quickly orders him to leave. I think this would extend easily to the rest of his clients, but also to his friends.

He's also shown to be an animal lover (or at least a dog person) with his pet dog, Pongo, who accompanies him around the town and is well cared for.

(New parts will be in italics) For his good qualities, he's still human and not above being manipulated, or above acting on his emotions. When he was a child in fairtyale land, he was shown to have developed coping skills early on at being told his opinion on their con games didn't matter, but his limit was reached by the time he went to Rumplestiltskin for a potion to deal with the situation and to be free.

When his plan backfires due to his parents actions of swapping the potion with rain water, he's racked with guilt but choses to run instead of explain what happened. He meets the Blue Fairy and is given the option of being freed from his parents to help the boy (Gepetto) for himself. (Fairytale flashbacks in "That still small voice") This, to me, shows his ability to be self-aware of mistakes and recognize when to correct things. His wanting to help (even if born from guilt) more than likely lead his Storybrooke version to become a therapist.

In his current profession, Regina Mills has shown herself able to manipulate him into acting in contrast to what he feels is better for Henry's therapy sessions, and in the same chord, to go against his conscience. If circumstances were met, he could be manipulated to a point to tune out his conscience, though I think there would be at least one (if not several) stop gaps before it got too far. (For example, he could be convinced to tell Henry to stop believing his ideas about the fairy tale land, but I can't see him being manipulated to do something extreme like going along with an angry mob to the point of violence. (s2, "We are Both"). Once he's realized how he'd been acting, he offered Regina his help to cope with the effects of the curse being lifted. He also seems a little too trusting of people he knows, which comes back to bite him hard in s2's "The Cricket Game" at his apparent "murder".

(Sorry for my delay, I've been a touch busy this past week)

[Revised]Third Person

Toni grinned and pressed her nose further against the glass of the shop window. Clothing, among other things, was a passion of hers. All the clothes in this dank, old shop seemed to be calling to her. If she had a tail on, it'd be wagging. She pulled away to wipe at the glass with her sleeve then cupped her hands around her eye to see if she could spot a sign of some kind. No luck. There were a few boxes lying around and some racks of jackets and so on. Everything was hard to see since it was so dark in there...

She sighed and turned to the other building that had caught her attention; The theater. It was big and old and just like any other theater out there. A small comfort, given that this city... town... whatever it is... gave her the heebie-jeebies. A nagging discomfort like when a group of people suddenly enter a room behind you. The idea in general made no sense to her. One minute she's riding the bus, boots sticky from who knows what spilled in the aisle, watching the city roll by. The next she's standing in a train station and her hair is on end and everything feels weird. She had been more bothered by what was or wasn't behind her to what lay among these buildings so she tramped out into the streets and wandered, finding herself at some old market square with all sorts of stores. Nobody had paid her any mind and nothing had caught her attention until she found herself mushed against a window, getting dust all over her face.

She trotted across the road and up to the doors. She wouldn't really go inside, but theaters are nice big solid old things and she leaned her back against the doors to think. She didn't recall touching anything strange, or reading anything she shouldn't. She didn't see any of the bus patrons around and she certainly didn't recognize anything near her. Mr. Cross hadn't done anything near enough to her to cause trouble either. Fiddling with the chord at her neck, she debated shifting and having a sniff around, but who knew what kind of trouble that would bring. She waited a few more minutes, soaking up the calm, then pushed herself up and marched away with purpose. She hopes that the station holds some idea as to how she ended up in this place and maybe some way to get back.

[personal profile] cursebreaking 2013-02-03 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: Generally, the first thing that most people notice about Emma Swan is that she is an exceptionally strong and stubborn personality. She is quick to cut to the chase in any situation and is both blunt and direct, as well as aggressive when she feels that information is being withheld and she’s being left in the dark. Despite her tendency towards harsh words while under pressure, she is good at keeping her temper in check, and is far more likely to take a step back, breathe, count to ten, and re-assess the given situation, allowing herself the opportunity to attack it from another angle. She is quite resourceful, and is in possession of shrewd observational skills. She claims to have the ability to tell when other people are lying, which appears to be true, except in very rare cases, such as being fooled into her alliance with Sidney Glass. She often refers to it as her ‘superpower,’ though whether it’s an actual power or the result of many years spent learning to observe and read people remains to be seen.

Observing people was often where it ended, however. Emma considers herself a loner, having been constantly shuffled through the foster system as a child and becoming a runaway as a teenager, moving from place to place and never stopping anywhere long enough to form relationships – until she met Neal Cassidy, Henry’s father, who quickly took to running right alongside her. His betrayal of her trust was not the first she’d ever experienced, but it may have been the betrayal that hurt the most, aside from her long-standing resentment towards her parents for giving her up. Though she already had great difficulty trusting people, Neal abandoning her and leaving her to spend close to a year in prison was enough to make her close and lock the door against anyone else who might try to get in. She prefers to keep people at arm’s length – or further – and uses sarcasm as a shield. She does not trust people easily; even her son had difficulty earning it from her when they were first reunited. She is a woman who is very used to people telling her what she can and can’t do, but takes great pride in her ability to take care of herself and prove those people wrong. Her issues with abandonment run deep, and even now, with her family reassembled and her having learned the truth of why she was given up as a child, it’s difficult for her to conquer those old habits. She looks for reasons to shove people away, and is quick to do so when she sees the opportunity, as shown when she realized that Graham was involved with Regina, hurrying to slam the door on him without giving him a chance to explain himself.

Emma is quite the skeptic, even now that the curse has been broken. She is, by design, rather cynical and considers herself to be a “realist,” which means she often closes herself to the ideas and opinions of others, especially if they’re a little far-fetched. When stories of the curse came only from Henry, it was easy for her to write it off as a child’s fantasy, but when August arrived and tried to push her to believe, she stubbornly pushed back, and was so unwilling to believe in anything beyond her own reality that she was unable to see any evidence of magic, even when it was right in front of her eyes. Even now, with the curse broken and everyone’s memories returned, she has difficulty taking things at face value, made evident several times during her travels in the Enchanted Forest alongside her mother. While she has clearly become a believer in magic and what it can accomplish, she still tends to second-guess things that she’s unfamiliar with or doesn’t understand, and it takes her a little while to wrap her head around certain ideas or facts of life in the Enchanted Forest at times.

Due to the fact that she’s never been one to put down strong roots, the idea of anyone depending on her quite frankly scares the hell out of her. It was bad enough when she thought it was just her son and his desire to pull her back into his life (though it didn’t take long for her to want the same thing), but when presented with the idea that she’s the savior meant to break Regina’s curse, she can barely comprehend it. All she can say is that it’s something she never asked for, that anyone depending on her is screwed – it’s far more responsibility than she’s ready or willing to accept. Though her stubbornness and determination mean she has the potential to be a strong leader, fear of commitment and responsibility often hold her back. Even after the curse is broken, she continually insists that she’s no one’s savior, that everything she’s done up until now was luck or because someone else designed things so that she would just be in the right place at the right time. What she needs most is a push, and that push often comes from Henry. Though she had never intended to see her son after sending him out into the world to get what she hoped would be his best chance, now that they’ve been reunited, he means more than anything in the world to her. Henry’s safety and well-being are her utmost priorities, and Henry has used this to his advantage. If Henry hadn’t fallen under the sleeping curse that was meant for her, Emma never would have freed the town of Storybrooke – but the fact that Henry needed help meant that she could suddenly forget her plans to run away from the task set before her and instead, do absolutely whatever it took to get him back. Storybrooke’s freedom was a side-effect. Henry’s safety was her priority. She puts him first in everything she does, consequences be damned. Nothing matters more to her than her son.

Though her trust and loyalty are difficult to earn, once they’re truly won, they’re yours for life. She is interested in making up for lost time with her family now that they’ve been reunited, though there is some awkwardness there – she’s unsure of how to go about it and is not used to openly showing affection, though both Henry and her parents seem willing to be patient with her on that front. Stability is something quite new for her, but she’s become more willing to try and change as time goes on, wanting to be someone her son can rely on, as well as others. She has also allowed herself to become more open-minded and a bit softer than she once was, more receptive to new ideas and the prospect of letting people in – though she’s still plenty wary about that last one. Still, one step at a time. There’s progress.

First Person: [One green eye is narrowed suspiciously at the watch in extreme close-up, nothing short of dubious. Waking up on a train she didn't remember boarding, finding herself in a city that she'd never seen before? She wished she could say that stranger things hadn't happened, but the fact of the matter was that they really had.

So what was this? More portal-jumping?

She sighs, setting her jaw as she sits down heavily on one of the benches outside the train station.]

What is this thing, anyway? Some wizard's idea of a cell-phone?

[She doesn't seem terribly impressed, though her fiddling with the buttons causes the feed to switch from video to audio for a brief moment, then right back to video.

At least operating it seemed to be pretty simple.]

Whoever's responsible for this, thanks for the ride in, but no thanks. I've had quite enough of being pulled from place to place. I need to get back.

[She hadn't just spent all that time finding a way back to Storybrooke, back to Henry, to just throw her hands up and call it a day because of what appeared to be someone else's idea of a good time. Restless and frustrated, she gets back to her feet and begins pacing in front of the station, irate. Her voice is strained, if only slightly, as she fights to keep panic at bay, swallowing it down instead of letting it act against her.]

I need to get back to my son, and I'm not taking 'no' for an answer. Whoever's responsible for this, either you speak up, or I'll find my way to you. I've had a hell of a bad week, and here's a tip for you -- this isn't making it any better. I want answers, and I want them now.

[She'd read the information provided at the station. As far as she was concerned, it wasn't satisfactory.]

Send. Me. Back.

Third Person: ‘Courage’ was a strange sort of ideal, she thought. It meant something different to everyone. To so many of the people in Storybrooke, it meant being brave enough to do something extreme, like take on ogres or brave a pack of trolls or brandish a sword and charge your way towards a dragon. Incidentally, she had actually done that last one. If someone had asked her when she was younger what it meant to be brave, she might have given an answer along those lines. Something out of a storybook, something that had no bearing on what she considered to be ‘real life’ and all it took to make your way through it sometimes.

Yet now, having done so many things and been so many places she never could have imagined, she couldn’t think of any of those deeds as being particularly courageous at all. None of them seemed anywhere near as scary as what she was about to do. She exhaled slowly, slumping against the counter in the kitchen of the apartment she now shared with far more people than it was meant for, and reached for the phone, dialing and holding it to her ear.

It rang three times before someone answered. Grimacing, Emma sat up again, restless, and ran her fingers through her hair as she cleared her throat.

“Regina? It’s me.”

“Miss Swan.”

Emma paused, unsure, just for a moment, of exactly how to word the invitation before barreling onward. “We’re having a party at Granny’s tomorrow night. To celebrate our making it back safely. Henry – and I. We’d really like you to come.”

CHARACTER
Name: Sheriff Stilinski
Canon: Teen Wolf
Timeline: “Fury”
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: n/a

Personality: The first thing to note about Sheriff Stilinski is exactly that- he’s a sheriff. In having earned that title alone, Stilinski has a certain set of qualities that could be considered admirable. He’s a respected and hardworking man with a clear set of traditional values. Right and wrong are clearly defined for him; right is being a decent human being. It’s being a good father, an honest person, it’s caring about other people and showing compassion when it’s needed. Wrong is being a prick, breaking the law, hurting people. It’s withholding information about a third party being abused and not caring to speak up about it.

When working, he might come off as hard, but that’s because the job requires it. He’s an approachable person and his heart is in the right place. He’s the type of man who will go out of his way to help someone when they need it. That goes beyond it just being part of his job. Even after he got fired from the police department, he didn’t just give up on the case he was working on. People were dying and it was still his responsibility to help.

Sheriff Stilinski’s most important duties though, are to be the best father he can be. His son, Stiles, is the most important person in his life, especially since he lost his wife and Stiles’s mother years ago. There isn’t anything that he wouldn’t do for his son. He loves Stiles so much and wants the best for him. Even when he has plenty of reason to be angry at Stiles, he never takes it out on him. He might become resigned and disappointed, but there isn’t a need to go out of the way to make Stiles feel bad about it.

He’s proud of his achievements—like that time when Stiles actually played in the lacrosse game. Their relationship isn’t always the most conventional, as Stiles has helped the Sheriff with the brainstorming aspects of investigation. It’s not exactly ethical, but he knows Stiles well enough to know that he’s not only a bright kid, but he’s resourceful enough to find out what he wants to anyway. This overall paternal feeling isn’t just limited to Stiles. He frequently shows concern for Scott and Scott’s mother, as well. It could even go as far to be said that Scott is like a second son to him. After all, it’s more common to see them together than not, and he knows Scott well enough to trust him.

First Person: here

Third Person:
Sheriff Stilinski had seen some things in his life. He’d seen amazing things, beautiful things, violent things that he’d rather not think about. But even the most vile of things he’d seen didn’t compare to what he was facing now. It started with the strange and fatal animal attacks in the city. Then it was the string of murders that was also more or less unexplained. This leads came to a dead end. It was ironic that the break that he finally got happened after he turned in his badge. What mattered was that it was something.

He’d been in his office at the police department with Stiles and Scott, piecing this together when he was faced with the most terrifying experience of his life—seeing his boy with a gun pointed at him. The kid they suspected behind the murders was there, making his demands. Sheriff Stilinski had seen things. He knew how to negotiate with people like this, but it that didn’t take the internal panic away, the worry that something might happen to his son.

So of course he’d complied and allowed himself to be handcuffed. He was rendered useless, but what other option did he have? There weren’t any others and that was what made it even worse. He had no idea what was going on as soon as the others were out of sight. It was hard to imagine that some kid was even capable of doing all of this, of hurting all of these people. The fact that Matt had shown up at the police station like this at all just proved that some people were just really damaged. Unfortunately, sometimes it’s too late to help the people who really need it.

He leaned his head against the wall, eyes closing briefly as he kept his ears trained on what was going on in the other side of the building. It was impossible for him to have fallen asleep in such a high-stress situation, but when he opened his eyes again, he wasn’t handcuffed or even in the police department anymore. It felt like a lot of time had gone by since then and yet he couldn’t even remember how that situation even resolved.

He was on a train, but going where? What about his son? Although he remained calm, he couldn’t help but panic. He hoped more than anything that Stiles was okay, but it was hard to say as he couldn’t even tell if he was hallucinating this or not. Either way, he was going to find out, even if was the last thing he ever did.

CHARACTER
Name: Viktor Frankenstein (Doctor Whale)
Canon: Once Upon a Time
Timeline: “In the Name of the Brother”
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: Grace and Whale don’t canonly interact, and have no reason to. He’s a doctor and if she gets sick in the city, there are other people she could go to.

Personality: On first glance, Viktor seems to be nothing more than a skeevy guy. He goes on a date with one woman and completely zones out when she’s talking to him in favour of checking out another woman. This aspect of his personality is interesting, as he’s so focused on dating and getting laid that he asks David if the nuns are dateable after the curse is broken since they were technically fairies. He has the inflated ego to think that Mary Margaret quit her volunteering job at the hospital because of him, and yet he’s courteous enough to send flowers to her after they have a night together.

Despite this, he’s a capable and professional man. As Doctor Whale, he’s someone who cares for his patients and will do what he can to save them, but his personality isn’t expanded on until his background episodes were aired. Between “the Doctor” and “In the Name of a Brother” we see the portrait of a man who strives to defy death with his science by bringing the dead back to life. He’s a young man who seeks his father’s approval but can never gain it, for not only is he not a military man, but he also spends all his time conducting research and experiments that Alphonse Frankenstein doesn’t approve of.

The one surviving family member that Viktor has who he gets along with is his younger brother, Gerhardt. The extent of their relationship isn’t shown, but they understand either other. Gerhardt is able to read Viktor and know when he’s upset, and Viktor, like the good older brother he tries to be, tries to assure his younger brother it’s fine. There’s a stubbornness in Viktor that’s seen countless times throughout his screentime. His determination to succeed and gain his father’s favour is one of those moments.

His reasoning behind wanting to succeed with this particular science, when he could’ve well just been a physician, isn’t stated either. The death of his brother proves to be the biggest factor for him continue with it, at least. There is a lot of guilt surrounding this event. Gerhardt died because of him and Viktor tried to use his science to bring him back to life. He failed, and when Alphonse found out, it solidified that the father-son relationship there could never be salvaged.

And yet, though the odds were against him, it didn’t stop Viktor. He never gave up in his pursuit for a strong enough heart to try to bring Gerhardt back to life. This determination and eventual failure—the heart he got from his deal with Rumplestiltskin was strong enough to bring Gerhardt back to life, but not in the functional way that he wanted—only proves to really mess with him when he has his memories back in Storybrooke. The remembrance of his past and the inability to get back home is a lot to deal with. It makes him angry, but in the end he copes with it by drinking and becoming apathetic to things going on around him.

He holds science in high regard, and definitely above magic. Even in the moments where he’s needed magic—such as when getting an arm reattached—he only admits he needs magic in the most begrudging manner.

First Person: here

Third Person:
Viktor was a man with priorities. He really, truly was. He wanted more than anything to get back to his brother. He had to try again, to make things better. It wasn’t a matter of that being possible or not, because he would do whatever it took to get it to work. Nothing was impossible with science on his side. He just had to get back to his world. As aggravating as it was, he had no choice but to wait. Regina wouldn’t send him back when he was in Storybrooke, and from the looks of things, it would be a challenge getting out of Ruby City.

Perhaps this was a good thing, though. Ruby had spoken to him about fresh starts, and really, that was what he needed. It was better to be Doctor Whale than Doctor Frankenstein. He’d made so many mistakes in his home world, especially where his little brother was concerned. Maybe it would’ve been better to let him stay dead, but at the time he couldn’t bear the thought. Gerhardt had understood him, hadn’t looked down on him for his work. He still had to find a way to go back, that would never change, but at least he could be a better person until the opportunity finally came.

Ruby City was only marginally weirder than Storybrooke would’ve seemed to anyone not from there. But it wasn’t too bad. At least, everything here was affordable since it was free and he still had opportunity to help people. There could never be a shortage on doctors, after all. There might come a time soon that his skills are needed. Until then, Viktor settled into his new life here. He wasn’t even going to lie, a lot of his efforts went into drawing up new plans. New ideas just in case. After the whole thing with Daniel, he wouldn’t try bringing anyone back to life again. He did care for all of his appendages. Besides, that all depended upon whether Regina had her vault here or not.

There was nothing wrong with a man enjoying science. He was interested to see if this place had any types of science he hadn’t read about. It was possible, since it seemed to be on a different plane entirely. With this in mind, he made plans to spend the day at the library.
