A note for CR AU applications
Ruby City does allow previous game history/CR to be brought over on a case by case basis. If you want to include this in your application please add additional sections for PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT and PREVIOUS GAME HISTORY beneath the Personality and Background/History sections.

In these additional sections we would like to see a brief outline of your character's previous game history and how it potentially impacted on and altered their canon personality.

CHARACTER
Name: Ganondorf Dragmire
Canon: Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Age: Unknown (mid-30's)
Timeline: Before he breaks into the Sacred Realm
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: N/A

Personality: Ganondorf is a powerful and arrogant sorcerer, one known by many names: Mandrag Ganon, King of the Gerudo, King of Thieves, Guardian of the Desert. Eventually, he will be known as the Great King of Evil. His thirst for power and desire to rule are his most driving motivations, and as a result, he is known for his ruthlessness, his cunning, and his cruelty.

Evil and its origins play a crucial role in Ganondorf's makeup. But so do his people.

The fact that the Gerudo are all women isn’t even close to being an incidental detail. Of the races of Hyrule, the Gerudo alone operate independently of every other race (well, there’s the Kokiri, but they’re a bunch of children who are protected by a magic forest.) Ganondorf was raised by women, amongst women, in a culture of women. Ganondorf is not only respectful of how strong women are, he is steeped in it. It is his entire culture. Men are nothing. Women, however, are to be respected and reckoned with. Ganondorf is used to female superiority to the point where he power inequality favouring males is not just alien but downright BACKWARDS. Male-dominated power structures are, however, the norm for every other race on Hyrule (excluding--again--the Kokiri, who have no real power structure because they're all children parented by a giant tree.)

Ganondorf very clearly gives a lot more credence to the power and authority of women than he does men. He doesn’t care much about or for the King of Hyrule, for example--and regards Link as an inconsequential threat, even after Link possesses the Triforce of Courage. He is, however, concerned about Zelda and her power. Even when Zelda is a mere child, Ganondorf is all too aware of Zelda’s potential. In the future, when Zelda wants to escape Ganondorf’s radar, she becomes Sheik, a man. And it works. Arguments could be made that Sheik/Zelda is using her magic to shield herself from Ganondorf in general, but why would she need to be Sheik to do that? If you’re going by the game, two reasons. One, she can’t just disappear from him awareness like that, but Ganondorf has no real reason to be overly interested about some lyre-playing Sheikah man, last of his people or not. Two, who do you think Link is going to give more of his time to? The mysterious male figure claiming to be last of the Sheikah, or very feminine princess he thinks that he needs to be rescuing? And Ganondorf is implied in canon to have allowed Link to purify the temples, knowing that it will draw Zelda out into the open--Zelda, not Link, is Ganondorf's goal.

And yet still there is that question of evil. Ganondorf's initial ambitions, while ostensibly noble, quickly flower into cruelty and greed. Even once he has control of Hyrule, his unquenchable thirst for power drives him to seek greater dominion, to the detriment of all (and everything he has gained.) There are a number of reasons behind this, some as simple as Ganondorf's egotistical temperament and gross sense of entitlement--other, more complex reasons suggest that Ganondorf becomes corrupted by the Triforce of Power itself. These are not to be discounted. However, Ganondorf is also the bearer of an ancient curse, one he has no knowledge of, but which shapes the arc of his quest not only in this life but in his many futures. Long ago, the demon Demise placed a curse upon the bloodline of the goddess (in this case, Princess Zelda) and the spirit of the hero (Link), declaring his hatred would return to fight their descendants, an endless cycle of violence and woe.

Ganondorf is the incarnation of this curse, and his evil heart--though not exactly his fault--curses him as well as the land he is born in and the people who inhabit it. He is, ultimately, fuelled not by benevolence but by jealousy, greed, and hate--and when he touches the Triforce, wishing to rule the whole of Hyrule and all its lands, he consequently blights those lands and everything upon them. In a sense, Ganondorf's true monstrosity was shown only after Hyrule's prosperity was destroyed--not only by his refusal to relinquish his corrupting grip, but by his determination to ensure the land should never be anyone's but his. If he could not have it, no one could.

Despite this, he is not without honour; when a young Link draws his sword in an attempt to stop him from pursuing the Princess Zelda, he is not angered but amused and impressed with the boy's courage. He knocks him away effortlessly, but allows him to live and rides on. Even later, when Link challenges Ganondorf in his own castle, Ganondorf will wait for Link to rise if he falls before resuming his attack.

Background: Ganondorf Dragmire was born to a race of desert-dwelling warriors known as the Gerudo--a race made up entirely of women. A single male child is born into the tribe only once every hundred years, and destined by Gerudo law to become king. Ganondorf was such a child.

The Gerudo valley and its surrounding desert can be reached only by crossing a single bridge that stretches over a high canyon and being granted passage through a large wooden gate. This bridge is guarded fiercely by the Gerudo themselves. Warriors and equestrians without peer, they are feared and respected for their martial prowess, and do not accept guests well. (In the future, they destroy the bridge and instead cross by leaping the canyon on horseback--a harrowing feat, to say the least.)

Just as the Gerudo do not welcome outsiders, those outsiders--in this case, the other races of Hyrule--do not trust the Gerudo, and view them with suspicion (at best) or outright hostility (at worst.) This is in part because of the Gerudo's reputation as thieves: they regularly set ambushes and stage raids outside of their territory for food, treasure, and other goods.

CHARACTER
Name: The Doctor
Canon: Doctor Who
Age: Over two thousand
Timeline: During Episode 12 "Death in Heaven."

Personality:

The Doctor can be best described as rather eccentric, grumpy and dry-witted when he needs to be. He is actually an alien from Gallifrey, travelling about in space and time in his mysterious blue box. He may seem like a normal man to the average human being but there is more to him than meets the eye. Appearance-wise, he looks like a middle-aged man, but really he is much older than that. Yet, he still remains a child at heart, regardless of his true age.

"The Doctor" is not actually his real name, but a name chosen by himself to show to others that he wants to help and heal. He is a kind man at heart and often shows that during times of suffering. He would put his own life on the line to save a civilisation or to help a crying child in the street. People who have travelled with the Doctor have seen his compassion and know he cares for others greatly. Sometimes compassion is the Doctor's greatest downfall, as shown in the episode "Dalek." In his Ninth incarnation, he could have killed off the Dalek race once and for all but he chose to spare the last Dalek, who survived the Time War. This was despite the unending conflict between his own race and the Daleks.

The other side of the Doctor is much darker, as he sometimes turns his back on compassion. Now, that he is much older than any of his past regenerations, he can come across as not caring or even heartless. He is neither, yet his cold exterior can sometimes become visible in moments heavy with emotions or when he has to make a particularly difficult choice. In the episode "Kill the Moon" the Doctor, Clara and a school girl travelled to the moon. During the visit he left both of them to the mercy of some space spiders and disappeared in the TARDIS. He was actually giving Clara a choice between what she thought was right and what was wrong. He said that the Moon wasn't his moon, so why should he care? The human race should sort it's own problems out from time to time, without the help of the Doctor. He doesn't like being a babysitter and has grown tired of being the one to rescue everyone all the time. Yet, in the episode "Forest of the Night" he showed that he did care about the Earth and it's inhabitants. He does truly care about the Earth, even though sometimes he can come across as if he doesn't at times.

The Doctor is an expert in breaking the rules and changing them to fit his needs. He is a renegade of the Time Lord race; having stolen his current TARDIS from Gallifrey, all those years ago. In his past regeneration he often lied more than he does now. Twelve prefers brutal honesty and outright truth, than to lie to someone. He tells people what he thinks of them, even though it can sometimes come across as insulting. Even though he looks like a human and acts like one, sometimes he can be awfully naïve about other people's feelings.

Even though the Doctor comes across as a friendly person, he's a lonely man at heart. He is the last of his kind, due to the Time War on his home planet. During this war between the Daleks and the Time Lords, he committed an act of genocide, wiping out his own race as the result. Part of the Doctor's need for having companions aboard his TARDIS is that they keep him company, during his long travels in space. Travelling the whole of time and space can be very lonely and having a human companion accompany him offers him some comfort. The only thing that he does not like in having a companion travel with him is the constant fear of losing one of them. In the past he has lost so many companions, due to conflict or some other tragedy. Rose, he lost to a rift in time, Amy and Rory, he lost to the Weeping Angels. River Song sacrificed herself to save his Tenth incarnation. All the regret in his past sometimes bubbles to the surface, causing him to sometimes withdraw into himself; refusing to take on anyone else into the TARDIS.

The Doctor's dress sense is a mix of obscurity and eccentricity. He prefers to dress in smart, dark suits with a shirt underneath and black trousers. He dresses much more mature, now that he looks older than before. Gone is the boyish, student look and now he looks like a country gentleman. A bit like his Third regeneration but without the frills. Most just think him a teacher, or a man who prefers old-fashioned clothes. No one really looks at him and automatically thinks alien. He just prefers the finer clothes in life to anything else. Clara even mentioned to him that he looked rather dapper in his suit once.

Even though the Doctor is usually well-tempered and rather energetic in his actions, he does also harbour a dark side. This anger possibly developed over the years with age and experience. Due to his loss in the Time War, the Doctor hates any form of conflict. It makes him angry. Any loss of life, due to conflict, usually makes him erupt in anger and blame those around him. Seeing so many of his own species die, has left a scar in his memories and weighs heavy on his hearts. He often blames himself repeatedly for what happened in the Time War. If a conflict erupts and he's in it, he usually tries to stop it, as he doesn't want others to kill; just like he had to. Regret is always something that plays on him heavily. Clara's recently acquired boyfriend, Danny Pink, was a soldier in Afghanistan but left the Army to become a Maths teacher. The Doctor didn't like the fact that Clara was dating an ex-soldier and often commented on it during their times together. This can sometimes cause arguments between Clara and the Doctor but usually they are resolved peacefully and they move on.

Background:
Twelfth Doctor
Doctor Who
TARDIS

Abilities:

Genius: Being a Time Lord, the Doctor has a vast intelligence, superior to any human being. His knowledge of time and space, being one of his greatest assets. He has a scientific and strategic mind, which helps him to solve problems easily. It also helps him get out of unwanted situations too.

Regeneration: When the Doctor becomes fatally injured or is dying, he can regenerate. This means he can cheat death by changing his physical appearance and changing into another man.

Protecting others: The Doctor is known throughout the universe for protecting other races and species, at the expense of his own protection. His past self waited for over a thousand years at Trenzalore, to save the people from an alien and Time Lord threat.

Good sense of smell and taste: The Doctor can analyse different liquids or objects by using his tongue. This is seen as odd in most people's eyes but has helped in deduce whatever the substance is. As well as being good at tasting things, he can also hold his breath longer than humans, since he has two hearts.

Great mechanic: The Doctor usually busies himself around the TARDIS console, fixing or repairing things. He uses his welding goggles and special harness, which he sits in, to repair the underside of the console. He can fix most things within the universe, unless they are completely alien to him.

Telepath: The Doctor is a telepath. A gift known amongst Time Lords. He can transfer memories to people, using a head-butt or sometimes just by pressing his forehead to another person's.

First Person:

[The Doctor whips around, as he now finds himself standing on a platform. A train platform to be precise. Not the Nethersphere. Where is she? He? The Master. Missy. She was just standing right in front of him and now she isn't. Is this another of his elaborate jokes to make a fool out of him? Clara. Oh God. Where is she? The platform is empty and there seems to be no one around at all he can ask for help. Well, this is going to be difficult. His face falls into a deep frown, as he feels inside his pockets and then feels a strange lump in his right one.]

What on earth.....[He lifts the watch out of his pocket and gazes down upon it with a look of wonder and confusion.]

...a watch? How did you get in there? You're not one of the Master's toys, are you? Not like that disco sphere he is keeping everyone's minds in. Oh God. I hope not.

[People trapped inside a watch? Not a good thought. He curses under his breath at his situation. Being pulled from one place to the other without warning is, well....frustrating. Also, where is his TARDIS? His beloved TARDIS doesn't seem to be around anywhere either.]

What pudding brain thinks this is funny to place me here? You're making a mistake, whoever you are.

[He directs his voice to anywhere around the platform. Whoever might be listening should pick up the cutting tones in his Scottish accent. Not a happy Doctor.]

If it's you, then you're pathetic. You think taking me away from my friends and the ones I want to protect is funny? Well, it's not.

[You, being the Master. It was only a few moments ago, since he/she kissed him on the lips. Euch. Kissing. He turns his attention back to the pocket watch. He notices it's well made and looks like some sort of communication device. Can Clara possibly hear him? He reaches into his jacket pocket and sighs with relief. At least he still has his sonic screwdriver. He presses it to the watch to boost the signal.]

Clara? Anyone? It's me, the Doctor. I don't know where I am but I need to know you're safe. I hope the Master hasn't got you and I am sort of hoping this is some silly fantasy he's placed me in. Perhaps, I can find a way out of here and back to you. I have to.

[With that, he clicks the lid shut and bites his lower lip. Things aren't going very well, at all.]

Third Person:
[Based off a thread from the Test Drive Meme: HERE]

The Doctor wasn't one for interruptions, as he heard the woman's voice cut through his thoughts. At first, he thought he had imagined the familiar voice but slowly, he pulled himself out of what he was reading and glanced sideways, to gaze upon the young woman with red hair. He swallowed thickly and nearly dropped the book he was holding.

How could this be happening? Amy Pond was alive and very much sitting next to him. This had to be some kind of dream. There was no way she was alive; not since the encounter with the angels in Manhattan. His hearts still grieved from the loss of the two people he had travelled with and loved since meeting them. Now, it seemed the wound was opened up once more, as he gazed upon the vibrant red head in front of him.

It took him a few moments to gather his thoughts to produce any coherent words.

"This.....can't be possible."

Amy looked up at him startled. It was as if he knew her, but how was that possible? It didn't seem possible to Amy at all. She tended to believe things she could see, but lately, well more like since she had been travelling with her Doctor. She began to believe that all things impossible were possible.

"All things are possible. The Doctor taught me that. Do I know you?"

"You....you're alive. I mean, you shouldn't be but- you are." He couldn't believe his eyes. Amy Pond was very much alive and talking to him. Was he dreaming? Was this whole library one big dream? Some giant fantasy preying on his thoughts and emotions?

"Do you know who I am? I mean, me. Oh, this is difficult and quite impossible. Slightly infuriating too." Also, very sad. He saw her death and her grave stone. He couldn't save either her or Rory in time. That one, bloody angel saw to that.

CHARACTER
Name: Machi Tobaye
Canon: Ace Attorney
Age: 15
Timeline: Approximately 8 months post-canon
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: N/A

Personality: The 'other half' of Lamiroir--Lamiroir says at one point in the game that she and Machi together are 'Lamiroir,' and in a way this is quite true. Prior to the murder and trial, the two were never separated and had almost a symbiotic relationship--they were always seen together, hand in hand, 'The Siren of the Ballad' and 'the Pixie of the Arpeggio.' He is very devoted to her and has dedicated his life to her, whether she realises it still or not. On his own, Machi is generally a very smart, gentle boy, but does not do well around people he does not know. In fact, with the exception of Lamiroir (and possibly Daryan), his attitude towards others could best be described as either "indifferent" or "uneasy," depending--at worst, he's visibly nervous and sometimes easily startled; Machi is shy around strangers and hard to get to know because of it. In fact, if you push him towards conversations he doesn't want to have, he can even become downright abrasive, although usually that's a good sign you screwed up somewhere.

Coming from a world where a lot of people are either fundamentally good or fundamentally bad, Machi is a little bit of both--possibly fifty percent on each side, possibly a little more of one than the other. Either way, he's in significantly more conflict than most and struggles with his actions a lot. Machi sees himself as bad, but refuses to identify himself as such, trying very hard to be the good person Lamiroir wants him to be. He tells lies (a lot) and manipulates others, but is also completely and unnecessarily honest, alternating erratically between the two and creating a very hypocritical (and possibly dangerous) persona in the wake of his conviction. It's not clear whether in his heart Machi is fundamentally bad or good, but it's obvious that whichever of the two manifests depends as much on the people around him as the events that shape his life... and that there will always be that other part of him as well, just not always demonstrated. For Machi, it's not so much a question of moralities as it is a question of loyalties. He wants to do the right thing. He just doesn't know what the right thing is yet.

There's also his 'darkness'... Lamiroir alludes to it at the end of case 4-3. Lying isn't necessarily all he's capable of. His past in Ruby City has nicely demonstrated the darkest extremes of this spectrum.

Machi's great love is the piano. He directs himself towards music obsessively and often ignores other people in favour of the piano, preferring the company of music to the company of other human beings. Machi himself is very withdrawn and stoic (read: unresponsive to or afraid of dealing with people); however, his playing is far more expressive and emotional than is, and carries a lot of feeling that he himself could never express. In fact, it could be theorised (possibly incorrectly, possibly not) that he expresses himself through his music rather than through verbal or visual communication--i.e. normal communicative means. Regardless, he's definitely a prodigy. I've had one person on the spectrum describe Machi as a little autistic, and that might be a good way to describe him; however, he does become braver and more normal-acting when you get to know him (or rather, he gets to know you and becomes comfortable around you--it helps when he knows what to expect, which takes a while), so I'm not entirely sure that's accurate. That said, his understandings of things are often very abnormal, and this often compounds his presentation as something of an oddball. This, coupled with his perpetual stoicism and sometimes irrationally rigid adherence to rules that may or may not have a bearing on the situation, means that he is sometimes impenetrable--very often right when he needs to be understood the most. His sporadic kindness is as much a strength as a weakness, as it may be taken advantage of--on the flip side of this, his paranoia and mistrust can prevent him from seeking help when he actually needs it, or making friendships when they are available. And gentle though he is, he is not afraid to get his hands dirty. He is partially dedicated to surviving in a country whose language he understands poorly, and occasionally gets extremely frustrated flustered in dealing with other people. If it gets really bad, he may abandon the situation and run away. A people person Machi is not.

Ironically, Machi has a problem with facing his problems--he avoids them, runs away, or pretends not to know they're there instead of taking on even simple dilemmas out of fear of doing the wrong thing. He doesn't like confrontation, and violence is something he seeks to avoid. This probably has something to do with the above, as well as his very limited and unusual life experiences, which leave him ill-equipped to deal with normal day to day things (though he has learned a lot), let alone unusual and more drastic or complicated situations. He is somewhat prone to panic and indecision because of this, and is very nervous around unfamiliar things.

Unfortunately, he's also prone to excessive stoicism.

One thing to remember about Machi, however, is that he is smart. No matter how much trouble he has with English or seeing things the right way, or how scared he may be, he is extremely clever and resourceful and may surprise you when you least expect it. For good or for ill.

CHARACTER
Name: Junko Enoshima
Canon: Dangan Ronpa
Age: 19
Timeline: Chapter 6 Mastermind Trial
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: N/A

Personality: Junko Enoshima is a girl of paradoxes, self contradictory from beginning to end. Everything she does is for pursuit of despair -- without it, she's bored to tears and boredom is the one thing that Junko cannot stand (well aside from hope but that's like saying Superman dislikes Kryptonite). She lives and breathes it and dedicates her entire life to bringing despair to herself and others and will do whatever it takes to fulfil that goal, from the mundane and petty to the cataclysmic -- there is nothing too taboo, too wild for her to do as long as it guarantees her some kind of Despair net worth. She worships Despair and it wouldn't be much of an exagerration to call it a fetish either -- she writhes and moans and drools upon experiencing the "one in a lifetime" experience of the "Despair of Death" and it sent off to her execution with a big smile on her face.
She claims to have been born in despair at her own birth and it's clear that her obsession with despair started at an early age - as told in Dangan Ronpa Zero, she once spent days building an elaborate sandcastle, only to destroy it, all for the Despair of seeing her hard work come to nothing. She's as mercurial as she is cruel -- she enjoys tormenting others, picking them apart at the seams and seeing them tumble into Despair. This cruelty far exceeds petty actions -- she kills her twin sister entirely on a whim, claiming it was simply because she thought Mukuro was doing a bad job of imitating her.

This is an apt metaphor for much of Junko's behaviour in general - she can be deeply self-destructive and is prone to sabotaging her own plans just to taste the Despair of failure. This makes her at once a wildcard and yet strangely predictable -- because Junko will always leave a stray thread in her plans that, if pulled, with leave the whole setup crashing down around her ears -- because there is simply no fun in a game that she is guaranteed to win.

Hand-in-hand with the above, Junko is deeply manipulative and charismatic. She's able to start what is essentially a world wide apocalypse with nothing more than her words, a group of angry, disillusioned teenagers and the despair she loves so very much. She's excellent at working out just what makes any given person tick and just how she can pull the rug out from under them in the most despair-inducing way. During the High School Life of Mutual Killing, she's able to work out just what will motivate her classmates into killing each other even without directly intervening -- the murders in the first three chapters are the direct results of the motives she offers.

But despite all her cunning and intelligence, she's strangely childish, too -- she's not all that composed at the best of times, but when things start to head south for her, she's not above throwing a tantrum like a child who doesn't get their way; she rants and screams at the final survivors of the first game as they slowly pull apart her mystery and actually stamps her feet and cries to herself during Dangan Ronpa Zero when the murder of the student council of Hope's Peak isn't "despair-inducing" enough for her. Like a child, she swings between emotional extremes at the blink of an eye, taking on a different manner of speaking and presenting herself so often that it's a genuine shock when she actually uses her own voice and personality. During the final trials of both games, she cycles through these "personalities" with the claim that she's been isolated so long that she's "forgotten" what her real self is like.

What's most disturbing about Junko is, despite all the above, she is not completely inhuman -- as easy as it would be to believe. Ryouko Otonashi, the protagonist of DR/0, is revealed to be Junko with her memories and her Despair obsession heavily supressed and without those she's shown to be a slightly timid but curious and intelligent and even kindhearted girl - she shows genuine feelings of joy, affection, guilt and even remorse. She was truly and deeply in love with Yasuke Matsuda and her shock and horror at killing him are completely genuine. She loves her older sister as well, even if she views her as disposable and -- on some level -- Junko loves her classmates. The High School Life of Mutual Killing is, partly, her way of sharing the despair she loves so much with the people she loves so much.

It's her gift to them.
Background: [ Junko's page at the DR Wiki ]
[ Ryouko Otonashi's page at the DR Wiki ]
Abilities: Being as she is the Ultimate Fashionista, Junko is incredibly attractive and graceful, with a great deal of knowledge about fashion, makeup and the like. She's able to use this to her advantage to disguise Mukuro as herself so well that it takes the others some time to realize there was any difference between the two at all. She's also a fantastic actress, managing to hide her true self so well that she was sealed inside the school with the very students that were being protected from her. She can lie, deceive and manipulate with the very best, spreading despair and planting seeds of distrust within her classmates with nothing more than her words and some vaguely ominous images of the outside world.

She's also incredibly intelligent, perhaps to the point of genius -- she is, after all, the one who sets up the events of DR, which presumably includes designing and building all the executions herself. In DRIF, she's able to come up with a fake name and Ultimate title within seconds of needing one, even to the point of faking a Monobear malfunction to add credit to the lie.

It's also worth mentioning that as Ryouko Otonashi she holds the title of "Ultimate Analyst", which suggests she has some analytical proficiency.

First Person: [ Dear_Mun Post ]

Third Person: Junko Enoshima was bored.

For anyone, this would be little more than a minor inconvenience -- but for Junko, it was a tragedy of epic and unimaginable proportions. It swelled and bloated like a blister on the pad of your finger, itching and stinging and aching and completely unignorable.

For any normal person this would, perhaps, have been the incentive needed to get up and do something to kill some time. But for Junko, it was just even more of an excuse to lay around and complain as though she were dying of some kind of awful disease.

"This place is the woooooorst!" she wailed at the top of her lungs, putting the back of her hand to her forehead for good measure -- not that there was anyone around to see it, but you never know. "What's the point of this place if nothing happens?! It's awful! Terrible! The absolute worst!"

She continued to rant in this vein for a good while but when it finally became evident that the universe would not bend itself to her whims under the weight of her complaining, she let out a sigh that made her bangs flutter and finally righted herself on the sofa. Her heels met the floor with a sharp clack and after a moment of mulling it over, she finally stood up.

"I guess I better make my own fucking entertainment then," she muttered darkly before stretching her lips back into a sugary sickly smile.

"I wonder where Nee-chan is..."

Personality: Stannis Baratheon is a stern and uncompromising man of strong morality and law, iron in his assumed duty and mission, and incredibly difficult to deter from his planned course. Many in his world called him a fearsome presence due to his unbreakable morality and unyielding belief in not just his 'royal rights', but his expected task to lead the people of Westeros as King. He is a believer in just desserts for every action, good or bad. A smuggler named Davos Seaworth was responsible for saving his castle during the siege, and was given knighthood in gratitude, but only after losing fingers as punishment for his occupation as a smuggler.

However, even with this exhibition of a dogmatic morality, he is not above resorting to pragmatism to do what he considers the right thing. He has been willing to sacrifice a nephew and murder his brother (the murder successfully committed) in his rise to power, in addition to superficially supporting a foreign and brutal religion that demands human sacrifice in order to gain more support and legitimacy in the eyes of the people, as birthright or law alone is not enough to convince most, as it does him.

This is not to say that he is purely driven by the lofty ideals of royalty, for better or worse, for duty or for right. Honesty is one of his most favorite virtues, as his willingness to at one moment sharply and tersely dismiss a person's hopes, only to speak true and deep from his cool-tempered heart make him both difficult to deal with in a conversation, and any affection shown genuine and heartwarming, due to its scarcity and truth. Many times his retainers have questioned if anything they did was truly in service of him, only to be surprised by a sudden moment of gratitude. Davos had tried to assassinate what he perceived as a corrupting influence on Stannis, and was set to be executed. However, Stannis realized the true loyalty and honor of the smuggler knight, and enfeoffed him, considering him the only true vassal he had. This both gave a former commoner the rights of nobility, and a seditious knight freedom. And while Stannis quickly silenced the complaints of the established nobles, the hard time spent in prison by Davos, and the dangerous missions afforded after, demonstrated Stannis still expected justice for the act.

His honesty and belief in duty also manifests in an entitlement to rank and privilege that, while quieted as he has grown, still exists as he is prone to regular complaints and brooding over perceived slights, indicating a sensitivity to them beyond that of normal people along with the problem of feeling deserving. He is perfectly able to rough it, and do grim duties, and expects himself to, but will typically be groaning all along the way. This dour behavior is matched by his own lack of social prowess, hardly being considered charming, personable, or impressive. This reticent and miserly nature is a result of having two brothers that outshined him in their charisma, leaving Stannis forever in a shadow that causes him to be bitter and feel constantly trodden upon by others, even when not intended. Though, it usually is. Respect him as people may do for his honor, he has rarely been loved.

Overall, he is a strongly-principled man often finding himself in unfortunate situations due to a lack of people skills, having to resort to brutal means to fulfill his moral obligation, due to lacking any magnetism of his own. He trusts and believes in very few people, but those whom he does entrust have his permanent loyalty. The good of the community, be it kingdom or something else, will always come before he himself, however, as it is his duty as a King. A title he had hardly any desire for, and yet, still claims it birthright.

In a less-monarchical place for him to find himself in, Stannis would most likely resemble a miserable man concerned with things that are archaic and dated to most other characters, and near-obsessed, to the point where he is poor at continuing a conversation about something else. His terse wit, showing itself in his honesty, and resentful nature make him a bitter but amusing person to speak with for short periods of time, if one is not easily hurt. Outlasting his own critical nature will showcase him as stilted and awkward, if he bothers to linger aft seeing it as 'unimportant'. However, he is quite driven, and will most likely immediately resort to improving the lot of Ruby City, even if he is acting crotchety all the while.
