APPLICATIONS

Applications are processed weekly, every weekend. The cut-off time for the submission of applications is 11:59PST on Saturday.
✗ Before applying, please read the FAQ and Rules pages.
✗ Please submit your application with the journal you plan to use if you have one made already. If not, another journal is fine, but we prefer your intended journal so it makes for an easier time in granting access to the mod journal and the contacts page.
✗ For very long applications, we would ask you to please separate them into various comments so that they will not take up too much of the page.
✗ Please title your application as { [CANON/CANON OC/OC]CHARACTER NAME || Series Title || reserve/no reserve || X of X } in the subect header
IMPORTANT: Our application form was edited on September 07, 2015. Please use the revised form.
✗ If you are looking for an example of what an application should be like, please refer to the application here for an example of a canon character application, and here for an original character application.

A note for CR AU applications
Ruby City does allow previous game history/CR to be brought over on a case by case basis. If you want to include this in your application please add additional sections for PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT and PREVIOUS GAME HISTORY beneath the Personality and Background/History sections.

In these additional sections we would like to see a brief outline of your character's previous game history and how it potentially impacted on and altered their canon personality.

CHARACTER
Name: The Doctor
Canon: Doctor Who
Age: Over two thousand
Timeline: During Episode 12 "Death in Heaven."

Personality:

The Doctor can be best described as rather eccentric, grumpy and dry-witted when he needs to be. He is actually an alien from Gallifrey, travelling about in space and time in his mysterious blue box. He may seem like a normal man to the average human being but there is more to him than meets the eye. Appearance-wise, he looks like a middle-aged man, but really he is much older than that. Yet, he still remains a child at heart, regardless of his true age.

"The Doctor" is not actually his real name, but a name chosen by himself to show to others that he wants to help and heal. He is a kind man at heart and often shows that during times of suffering. He would put his own life on the line to save a civilisation or to help a crying child in the street. People who have travelled with the Doctor have seen his compassion and know he cares for others greatly. Sometimes compassion is the Doctor's greatest downfall, as shown in the episode "Dalek." In his Ninth incarnation, he could have killed off the Dalek race once and for all but he chose to spare the last Dalek, who survived the Time War. This was despite the unending conflict between his own race and the Daleks.

The other side of the Doctor is much darker, as he sometimes turns his back on compassion. Now, that he is much older than any of his past regenerations, he can come across as not caring or even heartless. He is neither, yet his cold exterior can sometimes become visible in moments heavy with emotions or when he has to make a particularly difficult choice. In the episode "Kill the Moon" the Doctor, Clara and a school girl travelled to the moon. During the visit he left both of them to the mercy of some space spiders and disappeared in the TARDIS. He was actually giving Clara a choice between what she thought was right and what was wrong. He said that the Moon wasn't his moon, so why should he care? The human race should sort it's own problems out from time to time, without the help of the Doctor. He doesn't like being a babysitter and has grown tired of being the one to rescue everyone all the time. Yet, in the episode "Forest of the Night" he showed that he did care about the Earth and it's inhabitants. He does truly care about the Earth, even though sometimes he can come across as if he doesn't at times.

The Doctor is an expert in breaking the rules and changing them to fit his needs. He is a renegade of the Time Lord race; having stolen his current TARDIS from Gallifrey, all those years ago. In his past regeneration he often lied more than he does now. Twelve prefers brutal honesty and outright truth, than to lie to someone. He tells people what he thinks of them, even though it can sometimes come across as insulting. Even though he looks like a human and acts like one, sometimes he can be awfully naïve about other people's feelings.

Even though the Doctor comes across as a friendly person, he's a lonely man at heart. He is the last of his kind, due to the Time War on his home planet. During this war between the Daleks and the Time Lords, he committed an act of genocide, wiping out his own race as the result. Part of the Doctor's need for having companions aboard his TARDIS is that they keep him company, during his long travels in space. Travelling the whole of time and space can be very lonely and having a human companion accompany him offers him some comfort. The only thing that he does not like in having a companion travel with him is the constant fear of losing one of them. In the past he has lost so many companions, due to conflict or some other tragedy. Rose, he lost to a rift in time, Amy and Rory, he lost to the Weeping Angels. River Song sacrificed herself to save his Tenth incarnation. All the regret in his past sometimes bubbles to the surface, causing him to sometimes withdraw into himself; refusing to take on anyone else into the TARDIS.

The Doctor's dress sense is a mix of obscurity and eccentricity. He prefers to dress in smart, dark suits with a shirt underneath and black trousers. He dresses much more mature, now that he looks older than before. Gone is the boyish, student look and now he looks like a country gentleman. A bit like his Third regeneration but without the frills. Most just think him a teacher, or a man who prefers old-fashioned clothes. No one really looks at him and automatically thinks alien. He just prefers the finer clothes in life to anything else. Clara even mentioned to him that he looked rather dapper in his suit once.

Even though the Doctor is usually well-tempered and rather energetic in his actions, he does also harbour a dark side. This anger possibly developed over the years with age and experience. Due to his loss in the Time War, the Doctor hates any form of conflict. It makes him angry. Any loss of life, due to conflict, usually makes him erupt in anger and blame those around him. Seeing so many of his own species die, has left a scar in his memories and weighs heavy on his hearts. He often blames himself repeatedly for what happened in the Time War. If a conflict erupts and he's in it, he usually tries to stop it, as he doesn't want others to kill; just like he had to. Regret is always something that plays on him heavily. Clara's recently acquired boyfriend, Danny Pink, was a soldier in Afghanistan but left the Army to become a Maths teacher. The Doctor didn't like the fact that Clara was dating an ex-soldier and often commented on it during their times together. This can sometimes cause arguments between Clara and the Doctor but usually they are resolved peacefully and they move on.

Background:
Twelfth Doctor
Doctor Who
TARDIS

Abilities:

Genius: Being a Time Lord, the Doctor has a vast intelligence, superior to any human being. His knowledge of time and space, being one of his greatest assets. He has a scientific and strategic mind, which helps him to solve problems easily. It also helps him get out of unwanted situations too.

Regeneration: When the Doctor becomes fatally injured or is dying, he can regenerate. This means he can cheat death by changing his physical appearance and changing into another man.

Protecting others: The Doctor is known throughout the universe for protecting other races and species, at the expense of his own protection. His past self waited for over a thousand years at Trenzalore, to save the people from an alien and Time Lord threat.

Good sense of smell and taste: The Doctor can analyse different liquids or objects by using his tongue. This is seen as odd in most people's eyes but has helped in deduce whatever the substance is. As well as being good at tasting things, he can also hold his breath longer than humans, since he has two hearts.

Great mechanic: The Doctor usually busies himself around the TARDIS console, fixing or repairing things. He uses his welding goggles and special harness, which he sits in, to repair the underside of the console. He can fix most things within the universe, unless they are completely alien to him.

Telepath: The Doctor is a telepath. A gift known amongst Time Lords. He can transfer memories to people, using a head-butt or sometimes just by pressing his forehead to another person's.

First Person:

[The Doctor whips around, as he now finds himself standing on a platform. A train platform to be precise. Not the Nethersphere. Where is she? He? The Master. Missy. She was just standing right in front of him and now she isn't. Is this another of his elaborate jokes to make a fool out of him? Clara. Oh God. Where is she? The platform is empty and there seems to be no one around at all he can ask for help. Well, this is going to be difficult. His face falls into a deep frown, as he feels inside his pockets and then feels a strange lump in his right one.]

What on earth.....[He lifts the watch out of his pocket and gazes down upon it with a look of wonder and confusion.]

...a watch? How did you get in there? You're not one of the Master's toys, are you? Not like that disco sphere he is keeping everyone's minds in. Oh God. I hope not.

[People trapped inside a watch? Not a good thought. He curses under his breath at his situation. Being pulled from one place to the other without warning is, well....frustrating. Also, where is his TARDIS? His beloved TARDIS doesn't seem to be around anywhere either.]

What pudding brain thinks this is funny to place me here? You're making a mistake, whoever you are.

[He directs his voice to anywhere around the platform. Whoever might be listening should pick up the cutting tones in his Scottish accent. Not a happy Doctor.]

If it's you, then you're pathetic. You think taking me away from my friends and the ones I want to protect is funny? Well, it's not.

[You, being the Master. It was only a few moments ago, since he/she kissed him on the lips. Euch. Kissing. He turns his attention back to the pocket watch. He notices it's well made and looks like some sort of communication device. Can Clara possibly hear him? He reaches into his jacket pocket and sighs with relief. At least he still has his sonic screwdriver. He presses it to the watch to boost the signal.]

Clara? Anyone? It's me, the Doctor. I don't know where I am but I need to know you're safe. I hope the Master hasn't got you and I am sort of hoping this is some silly fantasy he's placed me in. Perhaps, I can find a way out of here and back to you. I have to.

[With that, he clicks the lid shut and bites his lower lip. Things aren't going very well, at all.]

Third Person:
[Based off a thread from the Test Drive Meme: HERE]

The Doctor wasn't one for interruptions, as he heard the woman's voice cut through his thoughts. At first, he thought he had imagined the familiar voice but slowly, he pulled himself out of what he was reading and glanced sideways, to gaze upon the young woman with red hair. He swallowed thickly and nearly dropped the book he was holding.

How could this be happening? Amy Pond was alive and very much sitting next to him. This had to be some kind of dream. There was no way she was alive; not since the encounter with the angels in Manhattan. His hearts still grieved from the loss of the two people he had travelled with and loved since meeting them. Now, it seemed the wound was opened up once more, as he gazed upon the vibrant red head in front of him.

It took him a few moments to gather his thoughts to produce any coherent words.

"This.....can't be possible."

Amy looked up at him startled. It was as if he knew her, but how was that possible? It didn't seem possible to Amy at all. She tended to believe things she could see, but lately, well more like since she had been travelling with her Doctor. She began to believe that all things impossible were possible.

"All things are possible. The Doctor taught me that. Do I know you?"

"You....you're alive. I mean, you shouldn't be but- you are." He couldn't believe his eyes. Amy Pond was very much alive and talking to him. Was he dreaming? Was this whole library one big dream? Some giant fantasy preying on his thoughts and emotions?

"Do you know who I am? I mean, me. Oh, this is difficult and quite impossible. Slightly infuriating too." Also, very sad. He saw her death and her grave stone. He couldn't save either her or Rory in time. That one, bloody angel saw to that.
