A note for CR AU applications
Ruby City does allow previous game history/CR to be brought over on a case by case basis. If you want to include this in your application please add additional sections for PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT and PREVIOUS GAME HISTORY beneath the Personality and Background/History sections.

In these additional sections we would like to see a brief outline of your character's previous game history and how it potentially impacted on and altered their canon personality.

CHARACTER
Name: Karkat Vantas
Canon: Homestuck
Timeline: A6I5
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: n/a

Personality: Calling Karkat crabby would be the understatement of the century. He doesn't smile much and he'll argue with anyone over anything, no matter how big or small the issue, and usually by being an insulting little asshole and supporting his side with seemingly empty logic. He loses his temper often and can be extremely impatient, especially when he has to explain himself. There's not a single person in paradox space that hates Karkat more than Karkat himself, and he won't hesitate to remind someone if that if he has to, usually in the form of arguing relentlessly with his past or future self, sometimes even both, for what seems like hours.

Karkat can be a bit arrogant and is known for being extremely volatile, as well as ruthlessly ambitious, but all of this tends to make him reckless, as he will jump at any opportunity to one-up someone else on the playing field. This recklessness makes him unlucky in a lot of his pursuits and so he often winds up with less than what he started with, which provides a decent enough excuse to do an extravagant pirouette right off the fucking handle.

Despite his abrasive attitude he does genuinely care for his friends and will give them some pretty sound advice if they need it (or just need to hear it). In the past he's helped both Eridan and Tavros with their relationship problems, and he seems to be fairly well-versed in the subject, largely due to his fondness for troll romance novels.
He does seem to have a softer side, but getting him to show it is kind of like bathing a cat; If you don't end up with claws in your face, you might actually succeed in getting to see him being nice - maybe even gentle. (Both of which are rare occurrences and should be treasured and quite possibly recorded for posterity.)

He's not quite a flawless natural leader, but he managed to shepherd his idiot friends fairly well through a universe-altering game - though of course not without a few explosive temper tantrums along the way. They came out the other side a little worse for wear and definitely a few heads short, but we don't really talk about that now.
Being a "leader" for Karkat usually entails yelling at people when things don't go according to plan or just kind of standing there in dumb shock until the last possible second.

First Person:
PRAISE BE TO THE DROOLING MORON WHO DESIGNED THIS PIECE OF SHIT. IT TOOK ME THREE HOURS TO GET *THIS* FAR, SO IN CASE IT'S NO INCONVENIENCE TO ANYONE OUT THERE, NOT THAT I PARTICULARLY GIVE A WILD RACKETING FUCK, I WOULD VERY MUCH LIKE TO KNOW WHETHER OR NOT I AM DREAMING, BECAUSE WHILE I'D *LOVE* TO STICK AROUND AND PLAY MYSTERY MORON THEATER IN THIS ADMITTEDLY STUNNING EXAMPLE OF ANCIENT ARCHITECTURE, I HAPPEN TO HAVE SOME EXTREMELY IMPORTANT SHIT THAT I SHOULD BE ATTENDING TO INSTEAD.
SERIOUSLY, THIS IS OF DIRE FUCKING IMPORT.
...WOW SHIT, HIT SEND NEXT TIME, ASSHOLE.

[He just wants to throw the stupid watch thing but he wants to wait and figure out whether or not any of this is real. Granted, he doesn't dream anymore, but weirder shit has happened in the past and he wants to cover all his bases before he throws a fit about everything.
Which isn't to say one isn't already brewing. That weird train thing vanished right into thin fucking air and he doubts he'd be able to re-board anyway. This is all just stupid and frustrating and before really even thinking about it, he just leaves the station and enters the city. Might as well scope things out while he waits for a response.]

Third Person:
First thing he knew he was waking up with a start on the floor of some kind of transportation thing. Next was that he was somewhere extremely strange that sure as fuck was not a meteor being hurtled psionically through space. Clumsily he got to his feet and climbed onto one of the slightly uncomfortable seats nearby to peer out the window at the rolling hills and warm, gleaming sunlight going by. Gross.

After what seemed like an entire solar sweep of train riding, he's dumped off at an empty station. Well, not really dumped - that would've been less spooky. At first he was content to stay curled up where he was, scowling at the landscape, but some unseen force compelled him to leave the train.
So he did. And now he was here, standing dazedly in the shade and wondering what to do next.

He looked around, bewildered at this bizarre, kind of alien place and took a few uneasy, distracted steps over closer to a wall that was covered in tacky posters.
"Ruby City? The fuck." Karkat could safely say he had never heard of such a place.
The posters seemed to go over a few simple, apparently necessary, things and that, predictably, did little to answer his questions.
So he huffed, stuck his hands into his pockets and felt something other than his crabwatch. Karkat pulled the object out and frowned inquisitively as he held it up closer to the light to examine it. It looked like an old pocket watch or something, made of dark grey metal. "Tch, obviously when you get stranded in the middle of nowhere, the first thing everyone's going to need is going to be a fucking. Pocket watch. Hhgh, this is unbelievable." He had people to meet up with and a time-traveling, universe-destroying megademon to deal with and he just did not have time to be fucking around in weird pocket dimensions, or whatever the hell this was.

"Goddammit." Karkat pocketed the device and entered the city with a disgruntled huff. Maybe someone inside could tell him where the hell he was.

CHARACTER
Character Name: Emma Overland
Canon: Rise of the Guardians
Timeline: Just when Jack falls through the ice
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: N/A

Personality:

Emma is still a young and youth girl, full of life, love and innocent curiosity. She loves to spend time with her brother but hates his tricks. Despite all that though, she trusts him. Especially at the most important time to them both. And because she’s so young, she hasn’t lost her belief in certain figures and wouldn’t be difficult if someone tried to get her believe.

She loves having fun and playing, her scenes showing her laughing and clapping while watching her brother mess around with fake horns, hanging upside down in a tree and excitedly pulling him along on the fateful ice skating trip. And, like any child, she’s very trusting and that can be both a good and bad thing since children aren’t very good judges of character. In addition is the complete lack of fear that she and most other children exhibit, jumping into any activity that looks entertaining. She’s not completely fearless though, nobody is and that’s true with her. We see that in Jack’s memories when she tells him that she’s afraid as the ice cracks.

This event has caused her to develop a fear of ice skating and going over frozen water. Every time that she sees it, she can’t help but think of Jack falling into the water and not coming out. While people grow out of fears and overcome them, this is one that will stick with her.

Emma enjoys having fun, which I mentioned earlier but I’ll expand on here. Having fun is one of the ways her brother can get her to do most things, including his way of saving her by turning the cracking ice into a game of hopscotch. This also shows that she can be forgiving, due to their dialogue:

Jack: “Would I trick you?”
Emma: “Yes! You always play tricks!”

And he assures her that he won’t this time and makes it a game. It shows that she’s willing to forgive people, give them another chance (probably more chances than they deserve) and trust them.

In addition, Emma is very well-behaved. Children from her time had to be, they were raised to be honest god-fearing people and to know what duties their life would entail. She does everything she’s told to when she’s told to and never disobeys the rules set down by her parents and other elders. This shows that she’s fairly skilled as well since children, young girls specifically, in colonial times were expected to help their mothers with housework. So Emma can cook, sew, churn butter and other necessary chores that were expected of women at the time. Perhaps not as well as other people but she can.

Lastly, since she’s still quite young, she’s very open to learning new things and much more easily than teenagers or adults. Overall, she’s a young and impressionable little girl, very innocent and easily trusting who loves to have fun with her brother and friends.

History:

Emma and Jack both come from the town of Burgess, 300 years before the movie starts. She was born during the settling of the United States and to a pair of unnamed parents who appeared to have a low position in the towns society. It was a small colonial settlement surrounded by woods and with a lake nearby. There were plenty of children Emma’s age, few that appeared Jack’s age, so she had plenty of chances to make friends and go to play with them as she grew up. Their family was not aristocratic as aristocrats tended not to settle permanently and the similar character designs for Jamie, his sister and Emma lead to the implication that Jamie is one of Emma’s descendants.

Emma was Jack’s younger sister, a very cheerful and naïve little girl who looked up to her big brother like any kid. They were raised well despite Jack’s love for mischief. Emma was always happy in the briefs scenes she appeared in and always appeared to be having fun.

From the movies screencaps, it appears that Burgess is in the vicinity of West Virginia, closer off to Ohio, further west than the Plymouth or London Company had been able to reach. Which implies that it was one of the proprietary colonies, which had greater civil and religious liberties. Even so, she lived there during a religious awakening among the colonies and at the time, basic education in literacy and numeracy was widely available so that they could read the bible. Both boys and girls attended the elementary schools (though sometimes at different hours or different seasons), and there they learned to read, write, and cipher. So Emma has some ability to read and write but her skills are not the greatest due to her families social standing and how young she is. This is something that she may be encouraged to continue in the game.

So, like all of the colonial settlements, it had very distinctive social, religious, political and economic styles.

Emma helped her mother, each day when she wasn‘t at school, with whatever tasks were expected of women at that time. Since there’s no indication of what kind of settlers they were, Puritan or otherwise, there’s no way to be sure if she helped with housework, farming or something else but she likely did learn how to spin yarn from wool and knitting sweaters and stockings, making candles and soap from ashes, and churning milk into butter.

The death of Jack took quite a toll on Emma and for awhile, she wasn’t the same happy and outgoing little girl she had been before that. It took awhile for her family and friends to get her to open up again and ever then, she was never quite the same as she had been. She avoided the lake unless she went to leave flowers there for Jack, which she did every year on his birthday and the anniversary of his death.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
Strengths: Believes in most anything, excitable spirit, butter churning, wool spinning, sewing to a degree, general cooking, etc.

Weaknesses: Easily convinced to do things when promised fun, a paralyzing fear of ice skating.

Abilities: Believing in Guardians.

Relationships to Canon Characters: Jack Frost is her much much much older brother.

First Person:

Test-Drive Meme.

Third Person:

Emma was focused, completely focused really, on her current task. In her hand was a sewing needle and in the other, string. And the task she was so focused on was threading it. Normally this would be easy but the lights were dimmed so that she didn’t wake anyone up or alert them to her being awake before she was finished. Nearby was small bundle of fabric which, unfolded, would reveal that it was a shirt. A shirt that was carefully sewn by the hands of a child, her skill level obvious as some points but it, at least, resembled a shirt. There were a couple of others, already finished, nearby as well but this one was special. This one was for her brother. So the care she had taken in making it was noticeable. Not to say that her others were carefully done as well.

It took a few minutes more, lots of sighing and almost giving up but she threaded it before grabbing the shirt and starting to work. Normally Emma managed to sleep at a decent time and slept normal hours but this was the best time to do something sneaky. Silver thread started to make the pattern (and it had taken her awhile to find silver thread,) of a child’s render of a forest. Over and over again she sewed until it covered most of the front of the shirt and then she knotted it and clipped the string to rethread her needle. And then she added a moon.

Task completed, Emma put her sewing things away and folded it up with the others she’d made during her late nights. Now that they were all done, she could start sleeping normally again and no one would be the wiser about how she had the time to make the shirts. Even with how much she tried to help out each day. The shops in town really lessened the kind of work she tried to help with, she could go out and play more than she had been able to when her mother needed help.

[CANON] Nathan Wallace / The Repo Man || Repo! the Genetic Opera || 2 of 3

[personal profile] athanklessjob 2013-04-04 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality: Depending on one’s perspective. Dr. Nathan Wallace can be seen as either a tragic victim of circumstance and manipulation, or a ruthless and bloodthirsty monster. In reality, he is a bit of both, and which direction he leans in depends entirely on his current frame of mind. He is a man who has been twisted by loss, guilt and grief, the product of an incredibly harsh and oppressive world, and who has, over time, developed a split personality. He finds himself divided between being a loving father and a coldhearted, sadistic killer who is dedicated to his grisly line of work. He has always considered himself to be responsible for his wife’s death, having supposedly found a cure for the illness that threatened her life. Instead, the medicine killed her, and Nathan was forced to watch Marni die before his eyes, though he managed to save their unborn daughter, Shilo, from dying along with her.

Marni’s passing was the catalyst for a number of things. Nathan is and always has been a devoted father, but the loss of his wife (and his hand in her passing) has pushed him to become both overprotective and overbearing. Painfully aware of how harsh the world beyond their front gate can be, Nathan has gone to extremes to keep Shilo close to him, forbidding her from ever leaving the house for fear of her being exposed to the painful reality of the world they live in. He decided early on that locked doors and barred gates were not enough to keep Shilo safe, and went so far as to tell her she had inherited the same blood disease her mother had died of. In actuality, he has been drugging her medication to keep her weak, using this invented illness to justify her quarantine.

Though his methods are incredibly flawed, his intentions are good. He considers Shilo to be all he has in this world, the only thing worth holding onto, and it’s entirely possible that in his desperation to keep her safe, he doesn’t fully grasp just how warped his mind has become. He’s not entirely unaware, however. He considers himself to be the lesser evil; though he has spent the last seventeen years deceiving his daughter, he still feels that he is doing the right thing by keeping her from becoming a part of their crippled and toxic society. He is both strict and firm with her, but not unkind. He is quick to remind her that he knows best, and that all of his rules are for her own good.

As troubling as his actions performed in the role of father might be, it’s as the Repo Man that he becomes truly monstrous. Though GeneCo has multiple repo men in their employ, Nathan is considered to be their best and brightest, and as such, seen as the leader of this brutal task force. It was a role he was forced into; he had previously worked as a surgeon for GeneCo and was known for being both thorough and precise, a brilliant doctor with immeasurable promise. They offered him a choice: either face incarceration or worse for his part in Marni’s death, leaving his daughter orphaned, or accept their protection – GeneCo would assure that he and Shilo lived both safely and comfortably for the foreseeable future, under the condition that Nathan spend his nights working repossession, and do so without question or argument. His desire to protect Shilo far outweighed any misgivings he might have had about the job, and he was unwilling to allow her to lose both parents. Since then he has faithfully repossessed organs from debtors at Rotti Largo and GeneCo’s orders: a legal assassin.

He’s never had any illusions about what his work costs him. It has caused his humanity as well as his sanity to erode over time. He has always seen himself as a murderer, starting with Marni’s death and reaffirmed with every victim he’s forced to reclaim organs from. For the first few years, it was likely a difficult job, one he had a great deal of trouble coming to terms with, but time and experience has changed him. He has done the job so long and killed so many that he has conditioned himself to survive. While he still feels guilt for what he did to his wife and the life he’s condemned his daughter to, he feels very little for his “patients.” When it’s time to work, Nathan slips away and the Repo Man takes over: cold, ruthless, vicious, precise, and bloodthirsty. The shift in attitude is noticeable, to the few people who realize he plays both roles. Where Nathan is kind but firm, the Repo Man is harsh and unhinged, violent and almost joyfully sadistic as he buries himself in his work. It’s only when the job is done that the Repo Man retreats and Nathan returns, remorseful but intent on repressing his conscience for the sake of his sanity – which is surely questionable.

Nathan is a twisted and broken man, but his love for his daughter and his desire to protect her are his life raft. He’s not blind to the fact that Shilo has begun to resent him for his strict nature, but everything he does is for her. His self-loathing knows no bounds, and he is fully aware that he is the worst monster of all, that he’s the monster Shilo should fear. Assassin. Murderer. Monster. Liar. Demon. He is haunted by his own guilt, harrowed by the fact that Marni would have been ashamed to see what he’s become, but justifies it all by telling himself that he has no choice. He is a man who does what he feels is necessary, as well as a man who feels that the ends always justify the means – no matter how horrible, painful, or bloody those means might be.

First Person: [The watch isn’t entirely unlike the communicators he’s used to, though compared to the device on his wrist, this new one seems a bit technologically lacking. His own watch appears to have been rendered useless, however, as though something inside of it has shorted out, meaning this supposed replacement is his only option. It only takes him a few moments to decipher which button does what, and when the video comes up, it shows a man who is both weary and incredibly tense, every facet of his expression and his body language marking him as being incredibly on edge.

He had been interrupted.]

I do not have time for this.

[His voice is low, terse, edging towards a guttural sort of growl. His Repo Man’s helmet is tucked beneath his arm, having removed it for the sole purpose of addressing the communicator, but the rest of the uniform is still there. It’s hard to escape the persona entirely when he’s still dressed for it.]

My daughter is in danger. I don’t know what this place is, or who’s responsible for bringing me here, but I will not stand for it. I cannot.

[Whoever did this? You’ve caught him at the worst possible time, and his hard, cold expression makes that abundantly clear. These are not idle words, and this is not the petulant foot-stomping of someone who doesn’t grasp the severity of the situation. It’s the cold, hard determination of a man who is dedicated to a cause, one you would be hard-pressed to convince him to abandon.]

I am not a man to be trifled with. I will have answers. I have unfinished business to attend to.

Third Person: He spent many of his evenings this way now: seated in the wide corridor that had come to serve as a shrine to his late wife, its walls lined with her photos, the veiled figure behind glass at the end of the hallway standing as a reminder of his failures both past and present. It was an opportunity to enjoy a few last quiet moments before he set about his night’s work – though perhaps “enjoy” was a term to be used loosely in this case. He removed his glasses, setting them on the table beside the armchair he had chosen to occupy, slumped halfway-down in the seat as he closed his eyes and rubbed at his right temple.

It was an exercise in futility, he knew. It was as if some part of him expected one of the many portraits here to cease simply being lifelike and actually come to life, to offer him advice, guidance on how best to right his wrongs, or perhaps benediction. His gaze turned upwards, towards the ceiling. He could hear Shilo moving about in her room. He would allow it for now, but if it didn’t die down before he left, he would have to intervene. Order her to rest. She had been so obedient once, glad to listen to his instructions, respecting him as both her doctor and her father, but time had changed her.

She was older now. She had questions. She was more willing to challenge him than she had once been. He had worked so hard to protect her from his life beyond these walls, to keep her from ever learning that her own father was the masked horror that so many had come to fear. It was getting harder to keep the secret. He could never tell her, but she was curious. She liked to explore. Even if he allowed such behavior in the confines of their house, it was too much of a risk. She was a smart girl. He was proud of her for that, among other things, but it also meant that she was well-equipped to piece together any clues she might find, no matter how small.

He sighed as he rose from his seat, reclaiming his glasses, turning towards the stairs and reaching to pull a ring of keys from his pocket. He would lock her in before he left. It was for her own good.

Everything he did was for her own good.

CHARACTER
Name: August Wayne Booth
Canon: Once Upon a Time
Timeline: 2.18; post-death (before the Blue Fairy changes him back obvs)
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: n/a

Personality: August is a man of many contradictions. He is a believer and wants to help others see the light, yet he lies and gives vague answers that make it difficult for him to be trusted. He has traveled all over the world, yet he remains naïve. He is an incredibly hopeful person despite his fear of failing to convince Emma before the curse kills him. He is the type to be easily distracted and although he has good intentions, he doesn’t realize the consequences of his actions until he’s faced with them.

Due to his nature of being a shameless liar, August doesn’t form attachments with people very easily. That and his restless nature caused him to move around a lot during his twenty-eight years of traveling. He longed to experience everything he could in this world. There were many distractions in the world, and he let them sweep him up and keep him from Emma. His biggest thing was self-indulgence. August did whatever he wanted to do and didn’t think about the consequences. Over the years he turned into a selfish person who only looked out for himself. He was also a coward, first leaving Emma alone and then not facing her in person when he finally came back. The main reason he finally came to Storybrooke was because he was afraid of dying.

Despite his easygoing attitude, August truly does care about breaking the curse. He’s lived his whole life carrying the burden of the promise he made his father. When he finally does try to make good on that promise he becomes frustrated and desperate. It’s a great struggle for him, especially knowing that it’s largely his own fault Emma is so mistrusting. August has carried a lot of guilt on his shoulders, both concerning Emma specifically and how he ran from his duty. He saw convincing Emma to believe as his last chance to make up for his mistakes.

August knew that his reversal back into a wooden puppet was his own fault. It was a visual representation of his failure to follow the Blue Fairy’s direction in being selfless, brave and true. He was ashamed of it and that was why he hid. He especially didn’t want his father or Emma, the two people he most didn’t want to disappoint, to see him. Yet his desire to protect them was stronger than his cowardice, and in the end that desire was what saved him.

Overall August genuinely wants to be a good person. The only problem with this is that he gets in his own way: running from his responsibilities, indulging in his human desires, giving into his nature. He longs for a chance at redemption.

First Person: [August is sitting outside, just taking in the view of the city. His device is angled so it catches his face. He has a light smile playing on his lips]

I still can’t believe this is all real. I’ve been pinching myself all day just to be sure… But it is real, isn’t it? I’m actually--

[whatever he was going to say is so overwhelming all he can do is shake his head]

This road would be perfect for riding my motorcycle, but… I don’t know. I feel like stretching my legs for a while.

Third Person: A heartbeat. An honest-to-god heartbeat! He could feel its rhythm against his chest. And the steady restricting and expanding of his lungs with each breath of air. August gave himself a minute to just enjoy these two incredible feelings. So many people took them for granted; not him. He could still remember the first time he felt these things. Just like then, August felt a surge of gleeful joy realizing what this meant.

“I’m alive.” He breathed the words out loud just to make them seem more real. “I’m alive. I did it…” The relief was making tears roll down his eyes. He was selfless, brave and true. He must have told Emma about Tamara. He remembered seeing her eyes, struggling on his last breath to tell her. Now here he was alive, so it must have worked. August pinched himself several times just to be sure. Yes, he was definitely a real man again.

Now that the initial high wore off, August realized that there was something wrong with his surroundings. Specifically that they weren’t anything like Storybrooke. What happened? Where were Emma and his father? Where was anybody? The high he felt was crashing around him fast.

“Emma?” he called out. “Emma!” He needed to see her, to be sure that this was real

[Canon] Ahiru || Princess Tutu || Not Reserved || 2/2

[personal profile] prosecutingly 2013-04-07 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: Once there was a little duck who wished she could do anything to save a lonely prince, a girl who dreamed of becoming a ballerina, and a cursed princess that would turn into a speck of light and vanish if she confessed her feelings to the prince. Ahiru embodies all three.

Sometimes a duck, sometimes a girl, Ahiru is skittish, yet bubbly and excitable, with a reputation of being a klutz. With that reputation, there comes a sense of doubt (particularly in her confidence as a dancer, or not thinking of herself as ‘brave’ when she’s Princess Tutu). She feels she lacks the grace and tranquility for ballet, traits which she admires—even envies, in that of Mytho and Rue. She also has a stubborn streak. Early on this causes her to quarrel with Fakir, mainly because of her interest in Mytho. As they spend more time together, she comes to an understanding with Fakir, as they learn how to work together in order to save their friend.

In lieu of her skittish nature, Ahiru is very perceptive. She will often times be the first person in the village to notice something is wrong; like pointing out the weirdness of having a talking cat as a teacher (despite being a duck herself), or sensing the feelings of those around her.

Apologizing is something Ahiru does regularly, often times when it’s not even her own fault, or for things that couldn’t even be controlled. She will even put herself down, by calling herself ‘stupid’ or ‘a bother’.

Any number of things can fluster Ahiru, either causing her to quack or flap her arms as if they were wings, which in turn will transform her back into her duck state. Other times she may blush, stutter, or carry on an entire conversation by herself. Despite this, her friends will often praise her for her cheerful disposition, even when she’s going through trouble (like when she remained upbeat after being demoted to the probationary class).

Ahiru abhors violence, which becomes a prominent theme within the series. She asks “Will you dance with me” when faced with challenges, such as collecting the heart shards from those possessed, or will continue to dance (while injured, and her human form is stripped away) in the battle against Raven’s minions. She draws her strength from will and determination to protect her friends, and when she puts her mind to it, not even fate can stop her from accomplishing her goals.

To Ahiru, her friends mean everything to her. She considers most everyone she meets as a friend, whether the feeling is mutual or not (like feeling terrible after Mytho called her ‘scary and thought he was hurting her on her quest to return the pieces of his heart). She will go to above and beyond to protect them (even if that means putting her life on the line), and will put their needs and wants above her own, taking their sorrows to heart.

First Person: Example A: Ahiru at the test drive meme.

Example B - Text: Hi, I’m Ahiru, and I’m new here. Is there anywhere in the city where I can practice my ballet? I don’t think my teacher would like it very much if I didn’t at least train while I’m gone.

Third Person: From the train station, Ahiru bolted with her bundle of clothes. She needed to find water and fast. Unfortunately, it was late, and she didn’t know where anything was!

After running haplessly for about a good hour, she found herself at the fountain in the middle of the city. Flapping her wings, she dropped the bundle of clothes, and flew into the fountain. Earnestly, she hoped nobody was around to see.

”Stupid, stupid, stupid!” she thought to herself. “I'm just a duck. I'll never make it in a creepy place like this.” Now transformed back into a girl, she picked up her clothes from the ground, and threw them back on, hurriedly. Oh, what is a poor little duck to do?

[canon] Rabbit Walter | Steam Powered Giraffe | Not reserved 2/2

[personal profile] spaghettiinmysoul 2013-04-07 03:42 am (UTC)(link)

Personality: Rabbit is nuts. No really, he's nuts. After over a hundred years of functioning and refusing upgrades, he is certifiably off his rocker. He was always on the eccentric side but since the wars and all that living he's done, it's safe to say the copper 'bot has more than a few screws loose in that head of his. He can be a selfish, childish, impish brat who can and will make a mess of everything he touches just simply for the sake of doing it because why not? A little ego monster too, his head is pretty darn swollen, what with being the oldest of his brothers, Colonel Peter Walter's (Pappy) first robot, pretty talented in the singing and music making division and all around snappy dresser. None of that persona is usually faked, he honestly feels that proud about himself, and he loves to lord it over his siblings even if, as they put it, he's aged like a fine milk.

Rabbit really is a few cards shy of a deck though. He lives in extremes almost every second of his life, subtlety does not come easily to him. One moment he could be wonderously happy, flitting about the manor and making talk with everyone else and being generally content with life. The next, he's bored, and making everyone's life as inconvieniant as possible, whether it be tromping through the house at 1 AM with his accordion, drawing faces on The Jon, pranking The Spine or trying to eat the next door neighbors cat whole. He has a fantastically bad temper to go along with this, and can spiral into a crushing depression if he suspects they did poorly in a show or if his feelings are damaged badly enough. He can become quite moody at the drop of a hat, and may refuse to leave his room for days on end if he felt badly enough. Only to emerge from it a ball of energy all over again.

One simple way to see Rabbit angry though, is to either insult his Pappy or endanger his family. He loves his family more than anything, and he is willing to risk life and limb to make sure they are safe. He is, after all, the oldest, and therefore the man of the house. Protecting them is up to him. Though his weapons were locked away from him after the wars, he still possesses his flame thrower, and a blue matter laser lens array, which is put to use when he puts his goggles down. He dislikes combat as a whole though, and while he may talk tough and bluster his way around, he usually won't stoop to fighting unless absolutely necessary. He isn't in the business of hurting people anymore after all. Annoying them maybe, but not directly hurting. He still carries with him a great deal of guilt when his core was stolen from him and vaporized two people, mutating a third. Though he certainly couldn't help it, it haunts him to this day, and it is a considerable weight that he carries on his shoulders, along with the wars he was in.

What Rabbit does love to do is to make music. He is a sucker for love songs, and has written several (even if one of them was for a toaster). He falls in love quickly and deeply, and loves intensely from the first day. He even says it in one of his songs that he only just saw his love when he knew he loved her. He has a long list of lovers, consisting of a toaster, a blender, and one night stand, though he has fallen in love with a more sentient being before (and lost her, if Honeybee is of any indication). He is... ninty percent straight, with only the occasional exception, and will typically flirt with any pretty woman. Or attractive appliance. He is very easy to manipulate while he has his crush, a pretty face could convince him to do almost anything, while the flame is still burning. But he just as easily moves on to the next object of his affection. He has a lot of love to give, and shares it freely with the world at every given chance.

He's prone to the most malfunctions due to being the oldest robot with the oldest parts on him. He stutters constantly, and may spasm and twitch due to crossed wires. Still, he refuses to be upgraded, and will rarely sit down long enough for repairs, never replacements. It's even a fight to scrub the patina from his copper, as he thinks it looks 'cool'. Though it worries The Spine, he never lets that bother him too much. He considers himself a work of art the way Pappy made him, and prefers to remain just the way he is. The real final result is that he is pretty clumsy and slow, not that he cares about that very much, and cannot be convinced otherwise to change his stripes any time soon.

Rabbit is overall a well meaning 'bot, if glitchy and obnoxious. He has a big 'heart', so to speak, and though he often gets in way over his head and starts problems, he's genuinely a nice person who loves his family. Even if he likes to tease them constantly. Silly, but usually pretty charming.

First Person: Anyone wanna hear a song?

[What time is it? If you guess three AM you wouldn't be wrong. No Rabbit, three AM is not a good time for song time what are you even doing-]

I'm takin' requests! I can go all night!

[On the accordion, he squeezes out a few pleasant notes, before sharply decending into complete mayhem. He'd like to call this little number No One Gets to Sleep in E sharp. The preformance is occasionally broken by disjointed laughter, either the bot is glitching hard tonight or this is really his idea of an excellent time]

Or w-we could pl-play hide n' seek! How 'bout it? I'm hi-hidin'! C-c-come an' fi-find me!

[Another bout of laughter as he spins in his seat, pressing every button he could possibly press on the accordion and letting out with a god awful blast of garbled notes]

F-first one to find me is th' winner!

Third Person: He was... lonely. And bored, but mostly lonely. Unused to being without his siblings (or his humans), Rabbit was left to wander an alien city all on his own, without a clue as to what to do with himself. Oh it wasn't hard to make new friends, he could make plenty of those, but... It just wasn't the same without The Spine around to harass or Hatchworth to give him sandwiches or Michael Reed or... He kicked a stone as he wandered down a random street, humming a soft, mournful tune.

He should have stayed indoors today, he thought glumly to himself. Maybe wrote a song... No, he couldn't write without the other boys around. It just wasn't the same at all. Who would he have to sing it to for the first time? Or to play the notes? All by himself? He was great and all but he wasn't anything without the others around, now was he? A family... That's what he was missing so sorely here. Not that he had ever taken his family for granted before but now their loss just stung all the more.

Another corner turn, the copper bot plodding down a slightly more populated street. He wasn't going to pretend to be happy. What would be the point of that? He was never good at hiding what he felt anyway, it would just be an exercise in futility. There were a lot of things to think about, to weigh him down now as he headed back towards where he was staying here. He almost didn't want to let go of the dark and dismal mood overcoming him now. It would almost feel good to collapse into a bed at home and stare at a wall for a few hours in perfect loneliness. Though it wasn't as if doing that would bring his family here any faster.

He had to find some way to cheer himself up, but even the prospect of playing music was somewhat depressing. It didn't sound right without other voices around to sing along... Other voices. He paused. Maybe he could convince other people here to sing with him? Just for one night! It wouldn't be forever or anything... His pace sped up a little bit. He'd have to get an instrument and ask around, but someone might want to play a few songs! There had to be a few other musicians out there! That poor mood was quickly being turned on its head at the very idea that he might have found a way to cheer himself up, already setting some pretty high expectations.

Look out, city, he was going to make a band.

CHARACTER
Character Name: Hiroshi
Canon: Ao Oni
Timeline: Post 6.23 objectively. See Personality for details.
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: N/A

Personality: Hiroshi's public face, the one he cultivates the most, is that of a calm, collected, and largely polite scientist. He maintains that all things can be proven through science, and things that break those natural laws cannot logically exist. He pursues knowledge, and eschews those who give in to the temptation to subscribe to superstition. This can make him seem somewhat cold and haughty as he writes off the supernatural as "stupid." He also has a sardonic streak, which just adds to his unapproachability. This is the sort of person he wants to be, although he's not as unflappable as he'd like to pretend he is. And even if he doesn't say it aloud, he DID like being with his friends.

However, this personality has become even more fragile in the face of what happened in the mansion. The truth is that he relies just as much on a gut instinct as he does on cold, logical fact, which is in reality what saved his life in the mansion. He tries to hide it, of course, since that's just not what scientists ARE in his mind. But place him into a high-stress situation, and he becomes just as emotional and irrational as any normal person, albeit one who keeps enough sense in him to hide and not just to run. Furthermore, he suffers from survivor's guilt, the knowledge that only he alone survived, that there were situations where he could have done, SHOULD have done more for his friends, but didn't. This guilt manifests now in a strong, occasionally self-destructive desire to protect anybody he becomes close to. He won't fail anybody again.

He tries to maintain his faith in science, even though it's much more tenuous than it used to be. The collision of his logical, scientific paradigm with the supernatural has, interestingly enough, resulted in an increasing interest in xenobiology, which he tends to keep hidden from other people. (This, of course, is mostly a background detail, since the matter of obfuscation becomes slightly irrelevant in crazy RP land with its xenobiological diversity.) At the same time, he can't fight the occasional nasty doubt that the Oni was just some sort of mental rationalization, and that he's the one responsible for his friends' disappearances/deaths himself. He certainly can't find specific reference to the creature or its variants, and to be perfectly frank he's just not sure how sane he actually was back in that mansion. To him, it'd actually almost be more RATIONAL to believe in a bout of temporary insanity than a blue monster that doesn't follow the laws of biology or physics in the slightest.

There's a very good reason for his doubts. The whole time in the mansion, he'd experienced a strong feeling of deja vu. Once he was no longer in danger, he began to realize that there was something off about his memory: he had absolutely no certainly of what actually occurred anymore. For reasons unknown, every time he tries to pin down an exact set of events, he remembers several possibilities at once. Memories where everybody lived, or where people died in different orders. Where the mansion was laid out differently, and where different monsters threatened him. Where even he isn't the person he knows himself to be. There are little constants here and there -- where he finds his first keys, for example, or that heart-stopping moment in the hidden jail cell. Everything else, however, is one big question mark. This doesn't do much to convince him he was in any way sane and rational in the mansion. No sane guy would write several versions of the same event in his own mind so clearly... right?

History: (Something important to note before I start: Ao Oni, with perhaps the exception of 1.0 and hopefully the light novel, has little to no background information about anything. The kids have personalities which are hinted at, and they give a few details about what brought them to the mansion on occasion, but beyond that any details are a blank slate. Hiroshi then ends up being about 90% the creation of whoever plays him, so bear in mind that most of this is not official canon by any means. While there IS official canon in the form of the light novel, said novel has yet to be translated, and thus can only be speculated on. It also has slightly different events -- AGAIN -- and so is irrelevant since I'm taking his objective canon to be 6.23.)

Hiroshi (head canon last name: Yamane) is the son of a man with a strong disdain for the supernatural, the result both of his strong belief in science and a revolt against a superstitious village he thought of as perpetuating ignorance. Though young Hiroshi feared the monsters under his bed, he soon found himself taking on his father's ideas, dismissing anything that fell outside the realm of science as nonsense -- which included things that go bump in the dark.

His father made sure Hiroshi focused as hard as he could on his studies, often to the detriment of other things. This suited Hiroshi just fine; he was going to be a scientist like his father some day, and aside from watching movies and shows on occasion that featured prominent scientist characters, he generally didn't socialize much.

When his family moved to a new town, Hiroshi got the attention of Takuro, a brash young youth with a fearless, occasionally mean-spirited streak. Deciding to drag this kid out of his shell -- perhaps he saw something nobody else did -- he made it a point to become Hiroshi's friend, even going so far as to fend off anybody who dared to mock his scientific friend. For that reason, Takuro held a special place in Hiroshi's heart as a friend, even if he tried not to let it on too much. Over time, he began to warm to Takuro's friends as well, Takeshi and Mika. Things were actually pretty good.

One night changed all that forever.

It was Takeshi's idea. There was a mansion at the edge of town, supposedly infested by monsters, but nobody had actually dared to check it out. Takuro thought it was a neat idea as well. Mika just went because Takuro was going. And Hiroshi? Well, his friends were going, and it's not like he actually believed in monsters anyway. It would just be a fun, maybe slightly scary night with friends.

Of course Takeshi began to wuss out as soon as they arrived. But still they entered. It turned out to be the biggest mistake of their lives. By the time the dawn rose, only one friend emerged to tell the tale: Hiroshi, who had spent the night chased by blue monsters, some of whom he'd once called friends. Nothing's been quite the same since. Not even his own sense of reality...

Strengths/Weaknesses:
Strengths: Hiroshi is a problem solver with a strong head for puzzles. His lateral thinking skills are shockingly good for someone more attuned to math and sciences, and all these skills together ensure he's better than most at solving complicated problems. He was, and remains, a very dedicated student, the type who would get straight A's. His research abilities are quite keen as a manifestation of this.

Weaknesses: When he's calm, his greatest weakness is his own pride; he doesn't tolerate idiots, and hates the insinuation that he's not smart just because he's young. He's at his most insufferable when people do things or state ideas he finds ridiculous, and tends to work extra hard to prove himself if somebody else finds him foolish, almost neglecting everything else. He's also almost TOO logical for his own good.

When he's afraid or stressed, however, his biggest weakness is an impulsive tendency towards potentially self-sacrificial or stupid acts. Being the only survivor of a terrible event, he's frightened of a repeat of it happening to any new friends, which manifests in unexpectedly rash decisions. In fact, his attitude almost borders on suicidal.

Which leads into his biggest overall issue: his guilt complex. His memories may be messed up, but they all point to the same result: He just plain didn't do enough to ensure everybody stayed alive. In fact, he's not even certain if the Oni isn't just a mental construct to hide his own murderous actions. That he's never felt any desire to kill at ALL beyond supposedly that moment is irrelevant. In his mind, he didn't just leave them behind, he killed them.

Abilities: None.

Relationships to Canon Characters: Technically, he IS a canon character -- the main character of the games, in fact. It's just that so little information is provided about him or his history in the games that he might as well be a fanon OC. Also, the meta-element of his memories is a complete construct of my own creation.

First Person: [The boy is clearly in the library today, a small pile of books nearby. Somehow, he manages to look fairly impassive, which is functioning well to hide his own annoyance.]

I do hate to impose, but I was wondering if anybody knows whether or not any of these books here at the library contain any information at all about some of the monsters people have been talking about that roam this area? It seems rather farfetched to me that such a varied selection of creatures could exist in an area without any literature on the subject, and I'm interested in trying to investigate the subject further. Perhaps some of you might know a thing or two that could help as well? Thank you
very much in advance.

Third Person: The nightmare was, like his memories, the same in many of the details, but often scrambled in others. The house was never quite the same, for example. The strange puzzles he could never quite decipher, or the number of locked doors. But it ended the same every time: the monster eventually found him, and chased him. And so he would hide in one of the cupboards, but never fast enough. The doors would open slowly, horrifyingly... and the final variant would occur. Would it be the normal one? The one with the tentacles? The flat one? Or, perhaps, would the monster have a head of hair it had no right to have?

That was the same. Always the same. What made it worse his evening, however, was waking up with the realization that he was not waking up in his own home, his own bedroom, but rather a strange city with strange, empty buildings like the one he had chosen tonight to stay in temporarily. He couldn't stop shaking as fast as usual this time. It didn't help that in that jumbled mess of memories of his, he recalled a similar situation of waking up in a strange room, although the dream he'd had THAT time -- theoretically -- had been much more pleasant by comparison.

He reached for his glasses, trying to ignore the clattering sound they made as he held them. He needed details. The details prevented him from seeing things that weren't there, things that reminded him too much of the real creatures that went bump in the night. He sat up, putting his hand to his forehead and reminding himself that this wasn't THAT place, that there were people here who could, by theory, repel any sort of monster that breached the walls of the city.

Somehow, he still didn't feel comforted.
