Third Person:He was afraid this would happened. Flicker had been set against the whole idea of splitting up the team to hunt spiders, and he had lost sight of the others. First order of business, figure out where he is, second order – find the others and return to the city. With a quick glance, he searched around and settled upon a particular tree to climb up in order to orient himself.

Easy does it, Flicker thought as he pulled himself up on the swaying tree. The wind made the climb rather uneasy, and the way the old elm seemed to groan worried him, he just hoped it wasn’t a dryad that would take offense at him clamoring over her. He dismissed the concern, as he figured if that were the case, she... er the tree would have whopped him already.

A loud creak made him pause. “Perhaps the oak was the better option.” He chuckled nervously to himself, just a little higher. Almost… Flicker reached up to the branch – just that one and he would get a good view over the treetops of the forest.

“Whoa-whooo-ah-ah!” With a nasty crack, the tree limb had given way under his weight. He was pitched heel over head, the ground rushed up towards the falling dragon. With a twist, Flicker had turned right side up and without a thought – his wings spread and caught the wind, it slowed his descent to a gentle float, then a hover.

“Oh… right! Wings!” He slapped his forehead before he zoomed up to break through the canopy. Now that he could see for miles around, it wasn’t long before he spotted his friends and led them back to Ruby City.

Bobby was really never sure she would ever understand why grown ups always felt the need to lie all the time. She'd asked Jocelyn once, but she'd only told her that she wasn't big enough to understand yet. This was another great big fat lie because Bobby was big enough to perform on stage and ride horses and really she knew a lot more about things and the world than Jocelyn ever did.

Well. Maybe. Jocelyn seemed a lot more grown up these days then she used to.

But it just frustrated her to no end because grown ups always pretended they knew better, but they never did. Her father was always telling Bobby that he was doing things for her (or him, things become confusing in your brain when one lives their whole life as a secret) but Bobby thought maybe he did things for himself really. He was always talking about carrying on the name Robert Lassiter on the stage. He wanted his name to live on as a greatest magician of the 20s because Bobby continued doing it after him. Well, maybe this was just childish thinking but Bobby was fairly sure that it wasn't for her (or his) benefit at all. So why did she have to keep eating oranges and sunning herself for her health and practicing all the time with him watching her (practice doesn't make perfect, practice makes permanent. Perfect practice makes perfect) if it was just for him? Why didn't he have to not slouch on the train and eat things that are good for him? It just wasn't fair, is what it was. Bobby was fairly sure even he got toys and books when he was ten (or seven or whatever age her father thought she was) but had there ever been the whiff of a toy or a book for her? None.

But mainly she couldn't help but think about what Rosie said, right before they left the camp that first time. She'd asked her if she'd thought she deserved the whipping she got. Bobby couldn't answer that, not really. It had hurt a lot. But would her father (her father) have done it if it was bad for her? Rosie didn't think so. Bobby wasn't sure what to think.

[personal profile] applemerc 2013-05-07 01:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality:
Jake Muller is a young man in his early twenties who, at one time, was certain his heart had steeled itself against the threat of emotion. The cause of this was likely the death of his mother, whom he struggled to protect. Despite being diagnosed with an illness, she pressed on to support herself and her son, but fell too ill to do so. Taking the responsibility on himself, Jake was determined to take care of his mother and see her well again. To do this, he became a Mercenary. Unfortunately, it was too little too late, as his mother passed away not long after. Despite this, that drive to come up with enough money to pay for his mother’s treatments was engrained in his psyche, leaving him with a slight greed complex.

After her death, he continued as a fighter for hire. It had only ever been himself and his mother, as he never knew his father. His mother’s dying wish had been for Jake to give his father a chance in hopes that they would meet some day. It’s hard to say whether Jake ever actually put much hope in that scenario, but he is known to refer to his father as a ‘dead-beat’ who ‘skipped out’ on his family.

In finding out about his father’s legacy, he referred to him as a ‘freakin’ nut-job’, adding more resentment to the boiling pot. However, it shows that he at least wanted to attempt to honor his mother’s whishes. Upon finding out his father had been killed, he displayed rage towards his father’s killer. Shortly after, he insisted he would be a better person than his father, and opted to save the world rather than let it crumble. This was an incredible turning point for Jake; finally deciding he cared for more than just himself.

Slowly but surely, his stony heart began to crack, allowing him to care for more than just money. Time and time again, he showed protectiveness over the female agent sent to protect him. At first, it may have been a result of sheer greed. If the woman perished, he would lose out on his chance at a promised 50 million dollars in exchange for a pint of his blood, but later on, it seemed to have more to do with character development than it did the money. As a testament to this, he informs Sherry that she, in fact, ‘saved him’.

After the events of the rush to find a vaccine, he is shown to continue operating as a man for hire, however, his asking prices have changed dramatically. Going from incredible sums of money to asking for a mere apple in exchange for the death of several BOWs. This displays an incredible change in his character since he first met Sherry.

He is known to be quick to anger if the subject is right, though his outbursts are generally controlled. Other times, he is laid back, with a sharp tongue and quick wit giving him a dry sense of humor. He abhors being used and told what to do. That being said, he has no love for politics. He’s known for having somewhat of an alpha personality. Jake is very calm in the face of complete disaster, confident in himself and his abilities. He can be quite brash, acting on a whim. He shows a more reckless side of himself—on the verge of panic—when someone he cares about is threatened.

Jake showed aggression towards Leon when he raised his voice and stepped closer to Sherry, shoving him away and coming between them. He also lost his head when mutated J’avo stole Sherry right from his grasp. He seemed to forget the enemies around him, only focusing on trying to reach Sherry.

He’s a highly trained martial artist and this shows in his personality to an extent. It likely helps to control his outbursts as you need to have a degree of self restraint to use it properly. Despite his default emotion appearing to be anger, it’s more of a façade. He does tend to be full of fiery emotions, anger being one of them, but he isn’t limited to it. Again, this is where his inner control shows itself. His outbursts are often brought to a halt shortly after they’re released.

All in all, he has vowed to be a better person than his father was, despite the cards being stacked against him. Once he puts his mind to something, it’s almost certain to be attained or he’ll die trying. Given his obstinate nature and down right persistence, he will achieve his goals.

Re: [CANON] Jake Muller || Resident Evil 6 || reserve || 3 of 4

[personal profile] applemerc 2013-05-07 01:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Background:
Here’s a link to the plot to RE6: Wikipedia
Jake Muller on Resident Evil Wikia: RE Wikia

Brief summary: (Contains spoilers to the game’s plot)

Jake was born in Edonia, though he was conceived in the U.S. His mother fell ill while he was young. Though she tried, she couldn’t support him when her illness progressed, so he found himself supporting her instead. Not long after he became a mercenary, hoping to bring in enough money to actually help his mother, she succumbed to the illness. He took the loss of his mother very hard, but grew up with the thought that money was important, even though it didn’t really matter anymore.

From then on, he continued as a soldier of fortune until meeting Sherry Birkin, a US Agent sent to locate him for his unique anti-bodies. His blood was the key to a preventative cure for the Chrysalid Virus. When he found this out, he insisted on a fifty million dollar compensation price for one pint of his blood, to which Sherry agreed. They fought their way through infected J’avo in Edonia only to be captured by Carla and held in a facility in China for six months. There they discovered similar J’avo and finally escaped. They encountered many Raccoon City survivors on their trek, including Leon Kennedy, Chris Redfield, and Ada Wong.

It turns out Carla used Jake’s anti-bodies to enhance the C-Virus while he was being held in the facility in China. They continued to fight through China, at first, to meet with Derek Simmons at the extraction point, only to learn that it was Derek himself that caused most of this mess with the C-Virus to begin with. After being captured a second time, they are aided in their escape unknowingly by Chris and Piers. They finally destroy the BOW that has been following them since Edonia and make their escape. Jake lowers his asking price from fifty million dollars to a mere fifty dollars and goes about his business as a man for hire. He is last seen in the game helping out a young middle-eastern boy who has hired him to get rid of a hand full of Napad BOWs for the asking price of a single apple.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
Jake’s strengths would include his speed and physical strength, his intensity and martial arts. Some weaknesses would be his hotheadedness along with his overconfidence. He’s intelligent, but he doesn’t often use his brain before he acts. He shoots his mouth off, which can be considered a weakness. He seems to have the natural ability to lead, though has issues taking orders. His immunity to viruses could be considered a strength.

Abilities:
Jake is highly trained in hand to hand combat with immense strength in his attacks, which tend to resemble his father’s to a frightening degree, despite having never met the man. He’s capable of picking up and learning languages quickly, taking no time at all to learn to speak and read them fluently. He possesses unique antibodies in his blood, a trait passed on from his father. It’s this very trait that renders him immune to the C-Virus. As a mercenary, he is skilled in the use of many different weapons, though he seems to prefer unarmed hand to hand combat. He demonstrated a remarkable talent for playing the piano, performing a small piece of Chopin’s work with ease.

First Person:
[The train pulls to a halt, jostling the sleeping man from his slumber. Noise bustles around him, but he pays it no mind. He was finally here.

Standing from his seat, he rolls his shoulders to coax the circulation back into his sleep-addled body and pulls his bag from the overhead storage compartment. It drops to the floor with a heavy fwump. He never brings more than what he needs and what he carries is all that he owns. Life is simple that way.

He steps off the train and looks up into the bright sun and—]

What the…?

[This is not where he was supposed to meet Sherry! He turns to face another passenger to ask exactly where he was only to find he is quite alone.]

Where the hell am I? Must’ve boarded the wrong one at the station.

[Jake rubs the back of his neck to massage the stress out of it. He had better text Sherry and tell her he is going to be a bit late.

He turns to step back onto the train just in time for the doors to shut and lock him out.]

Hey!

[He hammers a fist against the metal frame trying to get someone’s—anyone’s attention, but it groans and hisses into motion under his fist, already disembarking for another unwitting resident.]

Third Person:
Roughly seventy-two hours ago a message was delivered to an agent of the United States Division of Security Operations. This message contained sensitive information of the highest classification and as such it demanded immediate action. The sender was offering detailed information on the whereabouts of several Bio-organic Weapons as well as months of tracking data on these small outbreaks. The promise of this information along with the sender’s name set the retrieval of this information as a priority one. The only question now was; What is the price? That being said, no one was surprised when a follow-up message detailed said price.

The brunette smirked to himself as he slid his phone shut and reclined back in a chair at the airport lobby. He’d been tracking and eliminating B.O.W.s for the last year or better, shooting a certain D.S.O. agent texts now and then between jobs. They were senseless little texts, but he wanted to keep in contact with her. She never missed a reply.

This was his first time back in the states in quite a while. Given his work and past, this wasn’t surprising in the least. However, Jake Muller was far from anxious. He was rather relaxed, fiddling idly with a memory chip between his fingers, much like someone would toy with a coin. The information on the storage device was classified, but one would never guess that with how carelessly he was twiddling it between his fingers. It wasn’t so much that he was careless, it was more along the lines of his overconfidence. If someone were to attempt a heist, he would simply take it back. Preferably by force.

Jake closed his eyes, reclined back in the chair as he was, he could almost take a nap while he waited for his ‘escort’. It didn’t take long for something to catch his attention, ending his nap rather abruptly. Oddly enough, it was a simple smell. A somewhat muted, floral perfume wafted his way. Not your typical run-of-the-mill perfume. It gave one the impression it was expensive, likely imported from France, nothing you would find at your local Walmart. Normally, women’s perfume would hold no interest to Jake, but this familiar scent brought nostalgia with it.

It painted the picture of a barge; water slapping the sides of boats and docks. Fire and apprehension set the atmosphere with a hint of sweat and grime. It was dark and if one listened hard enough, they could hear the sound of chaos in the distance. The rev of a chainsaw sent a jolt of adrenaline through the body, adding an extra edge to the apprehension that already existed. A woman on a tether swung out of the darkness, swooping through the air to snatch his savior from certain doom, depositing her in the safety of his arms. A flash of black and red was all he saw, but that expensive perfume clung to Sherry’s clothing briefly after the encounter.

So, naturally, Jake’s eyes popped open just in time to see a similar flash of black and red as the woman disappeared into the crowd. The mercenary jumped from his semi-comfortable resting place in an attempt to follow her. He pushed through the crowd of people, but it seemed a futile effort. The woman was as slippery as she had been back in China. Honestly, he really didn’t know what he would have done or said had he actually caught up with her, so it was probably better that she vanished.

“Jake!”

A voice caught his attention, bringing an immediate smile to his face. He turned in the direction of petite agent and let out a short, amused chuckle.

“Well, if it isn’t Supergirl.”

“Don’t act so surprised! You’re the one who insisted I be here.” Sherry replied, smiling despite herself.

“Did I?” He feigned innocence, though, when he realized it didn’t suit him, he smirked knowingly. “Oh yeah, I might have said that.” Jake nodded his head to the side in a curt motion towards the exit. “Hungry? Airline food sucks no matter what country you’re in.”

CHARACTER
Name: Epsilon
Canon: Pluto
Age: ??? (Robot)
Timeline: Post-death
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: N/A

Personality: Quiet, gentle, and compassionate, Epsilon is not exactly what most people would expect when hearing about "the strongest robot in the world." An ultimate pacifist, Epsilon's incredible power is eclipsed only by his passive temperament and rigid doctrine of nonviolence. His refusal to participate in the 39th Central Asian Conflict was met with condemnation and derision, but he makes no apologies and openly maintains his beliefs about it, even years after the fact. He later declines to fight or even defend himself even after the other six of the "seven most powerful robots in the world" (the other six known robots of mass destruction) have been killed, alongside numerous humans related to certain of the war's events--a list of fatalities that includes his own creator. He simply can't. Whether it's through fear, an actual inability to do so, or an inability to bring himself to do so, Epsilon cannot and will not fight. It is only when the robot attacks the children he raises that he seems able or willing to exercise any force at all, and even then it's completely nonlethal--a single, decisive, nonfatal blow. He would much rather run than fight, 100% of the time.

The strongest robot in the world is a self-professed "coward."

Epsilon is not incapable; far from it. The only robot in the world to utilise photon energy, he could very easily obliterate every organic and nonorganic thing in a vast radius if he so chose, with himself as the epicentre. He simply doesn't. He has no desire to, and in fact abjures any notion of it. In this, his beliefs--and his limitations--are ironclad. But his weakness is also a strength. Instead of being a fighter, Epsilon is a listener, an observer, a mediator, and a caretaker. The guardian of a large collection of children, many of whom were orphaned in the 39th Central Asian Conflict, he prefers to spend his days with them, teaching, playing, and helping them grow. In caring for them, he receives "love," something very precious to him... so much so that he would sacrifice himself for it, or simply endure the world's ire.

Around these children, though, Epsilon is bright, open, even lively--a safe, supporting, nurturing presence with the gentle patience to nurse them through speechless terrors and the honesty and interest to laugh at a funny song or play a game of hide and seek. He's tolerant and understanding with them, but responsible--he may be a robot, but he is their adult, and he exercises this with a quiet authority when it's required. Still, his smile is genuine, and a far cry from the lingering burden he sometimes seems to exibit when in the company of adults or even other robots. Often, his demeanour outside of his interactions with the children could be described as "distant," "aloof," "solemn," "stoic," or occasionally just "sad." This may have more to do with the choices of the world around him than Epsilon himself, however--his gentility and compassion can make others' actions and beliefs hard to bear. He rarely voices anything but simple statements of disapproval, though. As private as he is, Epsilon is often perceived as passive, and could even be considered a stoic in many capacities.

As a robot, however, there is a real gulf between Epsilon and the human "experience." This means he will always lack the full emotional richness that humans have--an emotional 'downtone'--and though it may often aid him, it also separates him.

As a robot, however, there is a real gulf between Epsilon and the human "experience." This means he will always lack the full emotional richness that humans have--an emotional 'downtone'--and though it may often aid him, it also separates him.

It's not clear if Epsilon can love, as humans love (though he may receive it... and though he cares, and is caring--Epsilon loves his children, but the nearness of this to human love is precarious and brought under serious scrutiny by the rest of the world.) He certainly does not rage, as humans rage (or, really, at all.) He does not grieve, as humans do (though he may experience loss.) His pain is not human pain. He understands human emotions, human pains, human joys--to a point, that is; he knows of them, he knows when they happen and understands them, in an objective way. This is not an issue--but for Epsilon, his "heart" is the heart of a robot, and though he pains for others, he cannot actually grieve for them as intensely as he may perhaps wish to.

This is not to say he does not feel. Epsilon, like many robots in his canon, possesses a striking degree of feeling that is both subtle and nebulous. There is an element of sadness and pain to Epsilon, concealed under his gentle exterior. But it is hidden, and he keeps it private--and even this he does not "feel" with the same quality as humans, even as his understanding of those feelings may approach human levels in intensity.

Interestingly, Epsilon can be much more direct and frank about his robotic nature than many of the other robots in canon, even those far less advanced. Even older models often choose to go through various motions of human life--for example, they may drink tea or eat human food to simulate the human experience and thus understand it better. Epsilon does not. Perhaps it is because of his programming or perhaps it is because of his children, but he has fulfilled his existence in a way that does not require a fascimile of humanity. He does not drink tea, does not eat human food, does not attempt to possess or understand feelings that he does not--he is content with what he has. Compared to certain other robots--Gesicht, Atom--Epsilon is relatively streamlined. Efficient in what his speciality is, but with some of the other aspects stripped down a bit; he definitely has an individuality and he certainly has personality, but it's not as obviously intense--as necessarily human--as the two mentioned.

Because of this, however, he can sometimes be a little too blunt, a little too "robot."

He does, however, have a dry, almost unexpected sense of humour--sometimes he can be almost sassy, in an understated way.

It'll sneak up on you.

Background: Epsilon was created by Dr. Ronald Newton-Howard, and the only one of the "seven most powerful robots in the world" to be created in Australia. These seven robots are the only seven robots known (at the beginning of canon) to function as weapons of mass destruction--the creation of which is now illegal. Which tells you something about Epsilon right from the start. He is also the only robot in the world to run on a photon reactor, drawing his energy--and power--from sunlight. While his AI is not always as humanlike as some of his fellow six, his unique technology is more than enough to set him apart. Programmed to be compassionate, peaceful, and caring, he is strictly nonviolent, and he is often distant to his fellow advanced robots and the world at large. This may be understandable, as he is often looked down on for refusing conscription in the 39th Central Asian Conflict, a decision made all the more remarkable for his immense power--a power so great, in fact, that he is regularly referred to as the strongest robot in the world.

He is well aware of what his capabilities are, but actively refuses to use them.

Despite his pacifism, however, he was commissioned by the U. N. military for a cleanup operation at the end of the 39th Central Asian Conflict.

While investigating the roboticist Goji before the war, the 'Bora Investigation Squad' found thousands of high-level robots hidden deep beneath an old mosque, all with their AIs removed. It was, from a robot perspective, a literal sea of corpses. A few weeks later, the war began.

Re: [CANON] Epsilon || Pluto || No Reserve

[personal profile] asecondsun 2013-05-09 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
After the war's end, Epsilon was driven out to the village to "clean up." He was not happy with the appropriation of his powers, but left in the dark about his actual task, he was more or less led down the stairs in the dark in unhappy silence (he did light the stairs up upon request) before being showed the vast collection of remains. The sight left him aghast, but he was shown no sympathy by the human soldiers. His orders were to eliminate the entire thing using his photon powers. At the first countdown, however, his sensors picked up the signal of a single living thing, and he abandoned his post--despite orders to the contrary. Racing up the stairs, he ignored the soldiers' commands and found a single child crouching beneath the burned wreckage of a building. The boy, filthy and deeply traumatised, burrowed into him, repeating the same word over and over again: "Bora. Bora." Epsilon, openly horrified by what he has almost done, held the boy close, but the soldiers ignored him, removing the boy and leading him from the village before ordering Epsilon to take care of what he was brought to do. As a robot, he had no choice. Deeply disturbed, Epsilon returned to the chamber under the mosque and waited for the countdown before unleashing a wave of power so immense that it engulfed the village, completely incinerating the robots... and the mosque, and the village, all in one instantaneous release of photon energy. As ordered.

That is the full sum of Epsilon's involvement in it, however. While the other six of the world's most advanced robots all played an active role in the war's events, Epsilon--the world's strongest robot--declined to participate in the conflict. In doing so, he earned the worldwide scorn and contempt of humans and robots alike. From there, he returned to Australia, where he began adopting orphaned children from the conflict--many of them deeply traumatised, left with permanent emotional and psychological scars from the horrific things they saw and experienced.

This is where canon events more or less start, with a lot of political stuff relating to the war, its true causes, and the nature of humanity and "perfection" as it relates to A.I. Hate and sorrow are also addressed--but while many of the other six experience "hate," Epsilon never does, save by proxy from Gesicht. Instead, he--like Pluto, the titular robot and original "villain" of the story--is connected to "sorrow."

There are no good links to his canon, and I really don't want to go The Full Johan unless absolutely necessary, so I hope that will suffice.

(Epsilon dies and Pluto continues to exist until Atom ends him. That's all that really needs to be said.)

Strengths/Weaknesses: I already covered these in personality and in abilities, I don't want to repeat myself!

Abilities: He's a bloody robot that can channel the fucking sun. No, really. Epsilon, for all his shortcomings and seeming passivity, is officially recognised as the strongest robot in the world. (Pluto and Bora are illicit creations.) And this is no exaggeration: when in direct sunlight, Epsilon's power is nearly limitless, and he has been mistaken for a second sun on more than one occasion. And this isn't just by humans--other robots have made this mistake too, which is remarkable for reasons I'll explain in a bit. Applications of his power in canon range from the mundane (such illuminating a dark basement--photons are the quantum of light; emitting photons means emitting light) to the immense. He is demonstrated melting the weaponised horns of the monstrous robot Pluto by superheating them with photon energy emissions; another time he destroys an artifically created tornado with his power--obliterating Pluto's left arm in the process, thereby doing more damage to him in one blow than all the other "strongest robots" combined. Right before he dies, he uses the last of his energy to detach his arms (he's a robot, roll with it) and use his disembodied hands to erect a protective barrier of photon energy around another robot and one of his adopted children. Finally, and most tellingly, there is his demonstration of power in the cleanup of that old mosque... a release of energy so immense that it erases an entire village from the map in a single blow.

This is a robot who can literally produce levels of light and heat generally seen in stars.

Of course, unless the sun is out in full force and photon energy easily accessed, doing something like that last bit would drain him dangerously, if not outright end him.

[personal profile] asecondsun 2013-05-09 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
On a less dramatic note, Epsilon is capable of high-speed flight, even at high altitudes (presumably the fact that he propels himself with photon energy prevents the formation of ice crystals.)

As a robot, he has no need to breathe, he does not tire, he does not feel pain if he sustains damage. Also, he's made of metal, which helps a bit with that whole "sustaining damage" thing to begin with. He is, however, considered rather fragile for a robot.

Additional bonuses to being a robot include the ability to go back over his complete memory in 100% detail, the ability to analyse, calculate, and store massive amounts of data, and the ability to exchange memory chips with other robots or simply insert theirs to "borrow" their experiences and memories. Also, despite his superficially human appearance, his senses are dramatically different from those of a human. He sees with his "eyes" and hears with his "ears," but that is where the similarities end; he has no sense of taste, no sense of smell. Meanwhile, his visual perception and speed of processing exceed human limitations, and he does not suffer from inattentional blindness. He also possesses an ability intrinsic to all robots: the ability to identify other beings as robotic or nonrobotic, regardless of how convincingly programmed they may be they may be. (Well, almost. One robot is so near human that it produces mixed readings, but that's complicated and said robot is supposed to be the most perfect robot in existence. Also, for most of the series, this robot is not known to be a robot. He's believed by all--including himself--to be a human who lost most of his body in the war, creating confusing readings.) If the robot is from his canon, he has a chance of being able to identify said robot by serial number and/or model as well.

Finally--finally--Epsilon can detect living things within a fairly wide radius. This is most likely a safeguard related to his powers--if you created something that can replicate intensities of heat and light that vastly exceed that of a volcano, you probably don't want him "flying blind," so to speak.

First Person: [Epsilon is a little preoccupied, but as soon as he turns the watch video on, it has his undivided, direct attention. He takes the requisite moment to let his audience catch his face before speaking. Etiquette.]

This may be a trivial question for most of you, but I was wondering if the weather in this city is usually this overcast.

[Another second pause, and the video ends. That's all he has to ask.

Perhaps he'll be more talkative once he has some answers.
]

Third Person: Epsilon walked silently, his eyes roaming uncertainly over the largely barren buildings and empty streets. The cloudy skies hung overhead, an iron-grey expanse of atmospheric oppression that weighed upon the city proper. It was no great stretch to acknowledge that the weather was a contributing factor to Epsilon's strangely disconcolate air; it was ever-present to him, a constant factor in his daily existence. As much as water, food, and air were necessary to human life, so sunlight was to him.

But why...? He did not understand how he was alive, or what he was meant to do with himself--the space between his annihilation and the train was not a space at all but a lack of one. He both knew and sensed the disorder with this--with his becoming, as it were, a being once again. He could not shake it. Walking, his quiet footfalls carried him around the city, in and out of its alleys and down its sparsely populated streets, but without a destination in mind, he was really only expressing aimlessness... no, not aimlessness--his helplessness.

He was helpless.

And understanding that was exactly what made him so scared.

CHARACTER
Name: Gilgamesh
Canon: Fate/Zero
Age: Hundreds. Never specified.
Timeline: Just when he gets the grail mud dumped on him/Episode 25.
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: n/a
How will you handle their interactions without playercesting? n/a

Personality:
How else would one describe someone who has proclaimed themselves the “ruler of everything between the heavens and earth?” Gilgamesh possesses both the overwhelming pride and staggering ego fuelled by centuries of self-righteous rule and unopposed tyranny, which is detailed in the epic his character is based off of. He is by all rights a divine king (two thirds god, one third man), even if his kingdom and his people have long since crumbled to dust, and to not know him is to know death. His ego is so enormous that at one point in the series he was doused in All the World’s Evil (the mud from the Holy Grail, at the end of the Fourth War), but rather than be corrupted and controlled by it he was given a physical incarnation and was able to resist the effects of it on his mind. He then went on to claim that someone would need “at least three times that amount” before it could even begin to affect him.

The role of Master and Servant isn’t of any significance to him. He even states early on to his Master, Tohsaka Tokiomi, that if there is nothing of value to be found in this world he will make him pay dearly for summoning him. Throughout the series Tokiomi is seen practically groveling to keep Gilgamesh happy, and more than once Gilgamesh has outright refused to respond to his orders in favor of following his own agenda. Their relationship is such that Tokiomi takes care to tread very carefully so as to keep his relationship with the King of Heroes in good standing, knowing that if he should slip up Gilgamesh will not hesitate to kill him for his impudence. The one time Gilgamesh had a command seal used on him, his initial reaction was to show outrage and ire at the fact that Tokiomi dared to order him around. Though it was not a command that he could so easily disobey, it was still one that left a bad taste in his mouth and worked to permanently mar their relationship as Servant and Master.

As stubborn as he is, manipulating Gilgamesh -- while sometimes bearing fruit if one knows which of his vanities to appeal to (kingliness, superiority, etc) –is ineffective in the face of his self-righteousness and entitlement when he feels that his way is right, and what he wants to do is something that he will do. Honestly, he has no real reason to fight in the war, believing that to fight for something that is already his is a foolish notion. During the meeting of kings (the gathering between Rider, Saber and himself that was mostly a discussion of their goals for the Grail) he even proclaims as such and vows to prosecute any thief that would attempt to steal his treasure, since Grail is a valuable object and by logic it should rightfully be his. Despite all of Tokiomi’s attempts to persuade him to fight for him as a Servant should, Gilgamesh does not budge unless it is for his own amusement or to further his own interests. He will not be manipulated into something he does not want, and does not hesitate to let this be known via defying or outright threatening Tokiomi.

It is not as though he cannot learn to cooperate with a Master, though; shortly after Tokiomi’s death he contracted with Kirei Kotomine, and their alliance is strong enough to get them through the rest of the series. Gilgamesh ends up taking a personal interest in him even prior to their contract, for he cannot comprehend why Kirei would deny himself enjoyment and pleasure even when it is not brought about as a result of sinful methods. For Gilgamesh, who has lived his life taking what he wanted and doing what he wanted without consequence, who has sought the pleasures of the world and indulged in them (whether it is through fine drink, virgins, or anything else that brings him joy), it is a curious thing, indeed, and their consecutive encounters leading up to Tokiomi’s death are mostly spent discussing the philosophical nature of pleasure and the methods in which one can obtain it. This sort of thinking will come up again, when he discusses with Saber and Rider the methods in which they have ruled their respective countries, but more notably with Saber when he openly mocks her for her naïve idealism and hopeless martyrdom in regards to her reign as a king.

Despite these glaring flaws in his personality, Gilgamesh is one to give respect where respect is due – but only if it is earned. Everyone else is but a lowly mongrel to him, and he will not hesitate to address them as such. If he has acknowledged an opponent as being worthy enough for him to use his treasures on, then he will; an example of this is when he fought Rider, when he did not hesitate to use both Ea and Enkidu on him, which up till then he had not bothered to pull out at any time during the series. This is the first and only time they are glimpsed in Fate/Zero, as he did not bother to pull them out again until the events of Fate/Stay Night. Even when he killed Rider, he referred to him as King of Conquerors despite the fact that moments earlier he declared that there could not be two kings. When Rider’s retainer and Master, Waver Velvet, refused to fight him out of respect to Rider’s last command to live, Gilgamesh allowed him to keep his life. He commented on how splendid his loyalty was and advised Waver that he should never let it be tarnished.

If Gilgamesh himself is shown disrespect of any kind – if someone doesn’t even know his name -- he considers that an unforgivable offense and will not hesitate to kill them on the spot. It is his belief that the world is “unspeakably ugly”, and he considers the beings that inhabit it not even worthy of his rule. Initially, he does not take other’s claims to kingship seriously, believing himself to be the one and true ruler of the world despite its misgivings, and is so stubborn and arrogant in regards to his own superiority that he refuses to see anyone else as anything other than a pack of inferior beings – mongrels – not even worthy to look upon him. His acknowledgement of Saber as the “King of Knights” is practically mocking, and he even makes a comment to Rider that suggests his opinion of her is less than savory. He does not see her as a king on the same level as Rider and himself, but merely as a thing to be coveted (which is, unfortunately, an obsession that carries through Fate/Stay Night) and crushed beneath the weight of their foolish, idiotic ideals.

In short: Gilgamesh is a king, through and through. He does what he wants without any regards to the consequences, and believes – stubbornly – that he is right in all things, since his rule is absolute. The world is his garden, and all the people within it are merely there to cater to the king.

Background:
Gilgamesh on the Type-Moon Wiki

Strengths/Weaknesses:
+/- Egotistical – his staggering ego gives him enough confidence to be intimidating, but it’s not like he doesn’t have the weapons to back it up. Unfortunately, this also means that he underestimates his opponents immensely to the point where it is fairly easy to best him in combat if one is capable and if he is not taking the battle seriously. He will not go all out against someone he does not feel he has to, and it’s also interesting to note that if he had chosen to take the Fourth Grail War seriously, he could have ended it in a single night.
+ Charisma – this is actually also listed as a skill on his wiki page. He is praised as being the greatest king and therefore any army that he commands will have their morale significantly boosted because of his overwhelming self-confidence. He also has the influence to build a global-scale, grand empire. Because his rank is so high (A+), it is not so much considered a skill as it is a curse or an act of sorcery.
+ Gate of Babylon – described further in the Abilities section, but this is his main method of attack.
- Close combat – Gilgamesh is by no means a proficient swordsman like those of the Saber class. Against an opponent who has mastered their weapon he is weaker, especially in close quarters combat. He is described as a “wielder” but not a master, but he is able to gauge his opponent’s abilities enough to where he will not put himself in a position where he will be at a disadvantage.
+/- Magic Resistance – While contracted with Kotomine Kirei his rank in this drops to E. The damage he takes from magic is reduced, however considering the insane amount of weapons and armor in his treasury it can be assumed that he has something within it to help defend against all types of magic. The armor and shield he possesses, as a matter of fact, are both able to easily repel A-rank magic. It’s more likely that he’ll ruthlessly slaughter anyone trying to annihilate him with spells that take a significant amount of time to cast with the Gate of Babylon.

Further strengths/weaknesses are touched upon in the personality section above, and for the sake of avoiding redundancy I will avoid listing them here. However, if the mods feel as though it is something to be expanded upon, I would be more than happy to provide examples.

Abilities:
Gilgamesh has within his possession the Noble Phantasm Gate of Babylon, which is, in essence, a giant gate that links to the treasury housing the multitude of weapons Gilgamesh has collected over the years. The treasury houses within it prototypes of all the Noble Phantasms in the world, and since he is the original hero all the other heroes that come after him are considered derivations of his legend, and their weapons offshoots of the originals he keeps within his vault. The Gate of Babylon itself is described as a “key-shaped shortsword” that he uses to “connect” to the Golden Capital, which is the name of his treasury. He does not need to pull out the key in order to access the Gate, as he has been shown simply summoning weapons from his vault and firing them at will – which is the reason why he has been designated as the Archer class in Fate/Zero – and the contents of his treasury are so vast he claims that not even he knows the number of treasures he possesses. If an item is assessed as having any kind of worth, and since the treasures of the world trace their origin to his vault, it can be assumed that it already belongs to him and can range from submarines and airplanes to potions of youth and fine wine. Even if he has not glimpsed it or held it by hand, the fact that it is valuable makes it his.

Examples of the weapons in his Gate shown during the course of Fate/Zero are:

 Ea: Sword of Rupture – an Anti-World weapon capable of showing the “truth” to whoever he chooses to use it on and one of the most powerful weapons he has in his arsenal. In his fight with Rider he uses it to shatter his reality marble -- Ionioi Hetairoi -- and return them to the real world, restraining him with Enkidu before he stabs him.
 Enkidu: Chains of Heaven – described as the “greatest secret” in the Gate of Babylon and the Noble Phantasm Gilgamesh trusts the most. It is named after his one and only companion Enkidu, and has the power to restrain the gods themselves. The higher the divinity of the target the stronger it is, but even on a non-divine person it is still tough to pry off.
 Vimana – it’s actually a giant flying machine. No really. It first appears in the battle against Caster, and he pilots it in the dogfight with Berserker in the air.

In addition to that, he also possesses a skill called Independent Action. Because he is taken from just when he has the grail mud dumped on him, Gilgamesh is given complete incarnation and his rank in this ability is upped from A to A+. It allows him to completely operate without a Master, though he may remain contracted with one, even when he expends a large amount of magical power. Even though he accepted energy from Kirei’s orphans in F/SN, he comments that it was entirely unnecessary.

Gilgamesh, as with all servants, also possesses a “Spiritual Body” in addition to a “Material Body”. He can switch to a spiritual body at will and in this form he is, in essence, like a spirit. He is undetectable to all but the Master he is contracted with – for any others he is extremely difficult to sense – and in spirit form consumes less mana than when he is materialized. Normally his disappearances and reappearances are indicated by him disintegrating in a shower of gold glimmer.
