A note for CR AU applications
Ruby City does allow previous game history/CR to be brought over on a case by case basis. If you want to include this in your application please add additional sections for PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT and PREVIOUS GAME HISTORY beneath the Personality and Background/History sections.

In these additional sections we would like to see a brief outline of your character's previous game history and how it potentially impacted on and altered their canon personality.

[Link is confused by the strange device now resting in the palm of his hand. His eyes widen as the miniture screen flashes on, watching in befuddlement as the sorcery of the communcator takes hold of his attention.]

Aaah-Ahh umm.. H-Hello? What kind of strange magic is this?

[He raises the watch about, attempting to inspect it from every angle before finally closing the lid with a great deal of caution. At this point he thinks it better to not disturb things he does not understand, rather than poke what might be a power greater than his comprehension.]

Third Person:
The summer air filled his nostrols with the sweet smell of fresh gress and open streams. Though it was not Skyloft, Link could not help but feel nostalgic as he walked about casually admidst the many avenues and side streets. It was perpetually this time of year in Skyloft, but he had since learned that, much like the world below, different weather patterns came and went with the passing of months here in the city.

He couldn't imagine a blanket of white covering the rooftops, or a season of storms practically drowning the sidewalks and open wells. He didn't wish for time to rush itself on account of his curiosity, but it certainly piqued his interest when reading about Winter and Fall in the city's library. Having to root through the massive wealth of texts per the recommendation of the other citizens, Link would clearly be experiencing manner strange and exotic things in this closed-off city.

Snow could wait. Squalls could take their time. The one thing Link desired to see more than anything else wasn't something that science or nature could simply produce.

As Link walked, his head hung low, he wished he could see 'her' face just once more. Whether it be in the sun, or the light of the moon, or amongst the amber colored leaves.

CHARACTER
Character Name: The Disciple (Meulin Leijon)
Canon: Homestuck
Timeline: After The Sufferer’s death
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: n/a

Personality: While Disciple is Nepeta’s ancestor and Meulin’s post-scratch self, there are several personality changes between her and the two of them.

The Disciple was born in an era where Alternia was far from peaceful and culling was highly practiced, so lowbloods had to know how to survive and fight with their own two hands. Thanks to that, The Disciple was wild and would do anything to be able to survive. She was strong, both physically and psychologically and didn’t own that many of feminine traits. Besides that, she was really independent and a huntress.

Thanks to that, she is rebel, has a little of a filthy mouth and can be called “sassy”. However, she, in fact, believes in such things such as revolution, equality and restoring peace, hence her devotion to Signless. She is a good listener and will easily write down what one says. She’s patient towards those close to her, and isn’t afraid to speak her mind. She can show herself to be really smart and is able to think fast and brings good solutions when needed.

When first approached, especially by someone who is not her kind or is from a higher cast from the hemospectrum, she is really cautious and dubious, interrogating them to be sure they are people she can trust, and only then she seems to be calmer. And when she trusts someone or becomes their friend, she’s more playful and once in a while, actually kind. She loves to think about potential mates for people from the many quadrants and usually doodles them in a book.

Meanwhile, The Disciple is really loyal to her friends, and even when she’s able to protect herself and be extremely independent, she won’t tolerate any kind of harm or conflict one can try to pull out of them – and with that, you can be sure you’ll find one hussy cat, ready to leave you a scratch in your pretty face. However, the olive troll is also reckless and thinks most of the time with her head hot. She isn’t searching to bring any kind of violence, but when she loses her temper, she can really get a little blind with fury.

Of course, The Disciple does have a soft side too. She gets easily enthusiastic when people talk to her about romantic situations of any sorts and sometimes embarrassed according to the situation.

With that said, The Disciple is a character that knows how to take care of herself and others and is, most of all, a strong and independent woman who needs no man powerful female who is not, at all, letting others take over her life choices.

History: Being born in Alternia, a world ruled by violence and those with the higher blood color in the hemospectrum were the ones who would win over the lower cast, The Disciple didn’t have much choice than fight for herself and to survive, until she met The Signless and his group.

She was raised by her lusus until her teen years, but soon the creature would be slain and she had to live by her own. She lived in the wild for many sweeps, learning by heart the entire forest and always knowing the best places to hide, being hard to get caught by anyone. But soon, she would find The Signless’ group, rescuing them from getting captured and later joining the group, since she was in favor of finishing that era of war.

Her entrance in the team was crucial for the next sweeps – Besides accompanying them in their journal, she kept a record of all of The Signless’ lectures and teachings, also seemingly the one with the most interest on what he had to say. Soon she would fall in love with him, being that said love returned to her. It is said that their love transcended the standard quadrants in troll’s romance, which means they possibly felt something close to human love for each other.

However, peace wouldn’t last long, and after spreading The Signless’ words and plan a revolt, things wouldn’t work well and they would later get captured. The Dolorosa and The Psiioniic were both sold to slavery, while The Signless was tortured and later executed. The Disciple was spared from getting killed and ran off with his leggings.

Her last moments were passed on caves, writing his teachings on walls, completely alone like she used to. These writings, however, would end up influencing a new generation that would make a new revolution. This revolution ended up banishing all the adults from Alternia to space to help The Condense conquer new planets.

Strengths/Weaknesses: The Disciple is physically strong, since she is able have a good fight with creatures with the triple of her size and weight. She has good ears and memory and easily writes down what one says. In her weaknesses field, The Disciple gets carried away by her emotions easily and will most likely attack when mocked or teased to the point of losing her patience.

Abilities: Similar to felines, The Disciple has good ears and eyesight, having an improved nocturnal vision as well. She has a good sense of direction and is pretty strong. Besides that, she has a good memory and lives almost the double of the time humans do.

Relationships to Canon Characters:
- The Signless: Her lover and inspiration. She has a great admiration for him and is one of the few people who can actually witness a more relaxing and calm persona out of her.
- The Dolorosa: She somehow sees her as a mother, but also a great friend. She trusts her and loves to help her in any way possible. When she wants to talk about something that can only be talked with women or she doesn’t want to talk with Signless, she is the first one she goes to.
- The Psiioniic: Someone she can consider a “best friend”. She likes to tease him once in a while and is somewhat protective of him since she got touch by knowing he was working as a slave before joining the group.
- The Executer/Darkleer: The one who spared her life. She doesn’t feel grudge against him and feels like they could have become good friends if the circumstances were different, and is actually grateful he let her go.

Besides these, she’s Nepeta’s ancestor and Meulin’s post-scratch self.

First Person: http://galactic-wayfarer.dreamwidth.org/606.html?thread=3422#cmt3422

Third Person:

While it would be not at all common for someone like Meulin to go out on a cold day, she had plans for that day that couldn’t stay post-pone no matter what. She wore the most comfortable and warm cloths she could find and set her way out in the snow. Thankfully, there wasn’t any blizzard, but the temperature was yet below to what she was used to.

Once she knew she wasn’t being followed, she started to walk fast, jumping around to the top of some buildings and following the marks she left across them to reach her destination. She hoped no one would find about it, but she had no idea that her watch was turned on at that moment and recording all her steps.

After some minutes, she finally reached a building and got inside. She got rid of her excess of clothing, making the watch fall from the pocket and pointing at what she was doing, and turned on the lights, staying in front of a wall covered with a huge black fabric. She grinned in content before grabbing the corner of the fabric and pulling it to reveal drawings of the many residents of the city in pairs.

Purrfect”, she said, giggling while getting a piece of chalk and staring at the wall. “It’s time to update my shipping wall”.

CHARACTER
Name: Amaterasu
Canon: Okami
Age: Old
Timeline: From mid-battle with Yami at the end of the first game, after hearing all of the prayers from the people of Nippon.
inkpot: (the light has fallen)

god this is enormous I'm sorry [2/3]

[personal profile] inkpot 2013-07-21 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality:

So this dog is a god...

And, sometimes, it's obvious that's exactly what she is. Other times, you wouldn't even be able to tell.

But Amaterasu, regardless of her godhood, is an interesting creature. She is full of balance and contradictions: excitable and relaxed, energetic and lazy, focused and easily distracted. She is easy to rile, though through even the most chaotic situation she can keep a level head. While prone to curling up and sleeping, or preferring to sit around and eat, the moment that she's pushed into action she will not stop until a task is finished, putting all of her energy into it.

She is also there for both the people of Nippon and for the nature surrounding them. She will patiently and avidly listen to people, even if they think that she can't understand them. If they have any woes, anything they need help with, she will almost immediately opt to help them after she hears them out. And it's not even as a god that she does this; she does it because it's the right thing to do. The same goes for any problems that occur in nature, and she will spend a great deal of time going around to make sure trees are in bloom, animals are fed, that that part of Nippon is in balance, too.

As 'the origin of all that is good, and mother to us all,' she is fairly benevolent (if a bit of a prankster and jokester sometimes), and incredibly mothering. Young children, human or otherwise, will always fall under her protection. And once you've befriended Amaterasu, you've made a friend for life (and then some, considering). Though, be warned, she might consider headbutting you should you need a good kick in the ass to get you moving, or to stop you from dwelling on the past.

At the end of the day, however, she is still an animal at her core. She can be vicious, especially when those close to her are in danger. And though she has a merciful twist to her, should the opponent in question deserve it, she will be merciless and swift in her retribution.

As the dog of the zodiac, Amaterasu has many positive traits that line up:

    ☼ Honest
    ☼ Intelligent
    ☼ Loyal
☼ Sense of justice & fairness
    ☼ Amicable
    ☼ Sociable
    ☼ Open-minded
    ☼ Moralistic
    ☼ Practical
    ☼ Affectionate
    ☼ Sensitive
    ☼ Easy-going

She is also sure-footed, certain. She can be gentle when it matters, especially in regards to children, women, and animals. As a brush god, she is also artistic, and has a deep appreciation for the arts. The same goes for nature; she is closely in tune with it, and can feel at home in even the most wild forest.

But also of note, there are negative traits of the dog zodiac that suit her:

    ☼ Lazy
    ☼ Judgmental
☼ Stubborn (she is actually incredibly bullheaded)
    ☼ Quarrelsome
☼ Cold, to a degree (she will deliver swift, merciless justice to enemies)
☼ Worrier, again to a degree (she will fuss and whine at times, but not often)

It can be said that Amaterasu is also incredibly trusting, and it is true in some cases. She will always try to give a person the benefit of the doubt, especially women and children (beautiful women are a major weakness for her, actually). But should she learn of deceit, it depends on what the outcome may be: if it's for their benefit, in the end, she will allow it to continue. After all, sometimes it's a sacrifice for the greater good (such as with Ninetails impersonating the priestess Lady Rao: they would not have attained the location of Oni Island if they had tried to stop Ninetails).

With that in mind, it can also be said that she would be more than willing to sacrifice herself if it meant she could protect those important to her, or simply the world itself. In fact, she has essentially done this before. She may be a god, but gods can be slain.

It should also be noted that she does. Not. Like. Water. Spending too much time in it will actually wash away her ink, and thus her godhood.

Background: Wow I just noticed the links I had before were broken. Here!

Abilities:

Godhood
Amaterasu is swifter, stronger, and more resilient than typical wolves and a good deal of people. She can take most attacks that would down even the strongest warrior and get back up again. However, her strength largely depends on the belief people have in the gods. Should it wane, so would her strength. Where she walks, flowers spring up behind her, leaving a trail of life wherever she goes. The flowers of course fade, but the life does not. The ground is healthier for her having crossed it.

Divine Instruments
Amaterasu has command of various Divine Instruments found across the great country of Nippon. Though she will only have access to her first tier reflector, the Divine Retribution, it is still a formidable force and they all work similarly. She can, in only a way truly known to her, command these Instruments and use them to attack enemies. Reflectors, in example, can be swung about to bludgeon and beat enemies soundly. It can be assumed that the flames of the Divine Retribution harm her enemies, but not her allies, as anyone riding her back is unharmed if they come into contact with it. Reflectors can also be used to block and, as their name indicates, reflect attacks back.

Ink
As a celestial brush god (more in a moment!), Amaterasu has a nigh unlimited source of ink at her disposal. So long as she allows it to replenish itself (in battle, this can be expedited by attacking enemies with her Divine Instrument), and there is belief in the gods, it will never run dry. There are, of course, moments where she must go without it (if an opponent drains it, or if she's in a cursed zone which saps away her godhood along with her ink), but overall it is as much a part of her as her blood is. Though she does not display the ability in game, it can be assumed that she can write messages with her ink, considering the fact she draws on paper, the earth, walls--basically any surface where the ink will stick. Should she draw it on air and it's not a symbol associated with a brush technique, it will drift away on the wind.

She can also create fishing lines out of her ink, though this may simply be an extra feature of the rejuvenation technique (below).

Celestial Brush Techniques
Though it can be assumed Amaterasu likely has access to the new brush strokes that Chibiterasu learns, there are thirteen basic techniques (and their secondaries) at her disposal that she has a mastery of. These techniques are unique to Amaterasu and her kin, the celestial brush gods, but there are some who can learn or steal these techniques for their own use (Issun, Ninetails). They need only have the skill, determination, and belief.

Sunrise - Performed by drawing a circle anywhere in the sky, it allows the user to summon the sun. This can either be to clear a cloudy sky, extend the day, or cut the night short. As the goddess of the sun, this technique is unique to Amaterasu, who represents the dog of the zodiac.

Rejuvenation - Performed by filling in damaged areas--such as the space left behind by a broken bridge--with ink, rejuvenation is used to repair things. This can only be used on inanimate, lifeless objects. The brush god associated with the technique is Yomigami, the dragon of the zodiac.

Power Slash - Performed by slashing an opponent with a line of ink, power slash is used much like one would use a sword. The attack can be blocked by armor or shields, much like a sword would be. The brush god associated with the technique is Tachigami, the mouse of the zodiac.

Greensprout: Bloom - Performed by encircling the desired plant (or enemy!) with ink. This technique allows the user to assist plants into blooming (whether it be a tree or a patch of flowers), or to open up an enemy's weakpoint, should they be plant-like in appearance or nature. The ability to sprout plantlife simply by dotting the landscape is also an option, which allows for flowers and trees to suddenly spring up (trees can be used to block attacks, even). The brush god associated with this technique is Sakigami, one of the monkeys of the zodiac.

Greensprout: Water Lily - Performed by drawing a circle in water, this technique allows Amaterasu to create lily pads to traverse across. The maximum at a time is three, and should she draw a fourth, the first will disappear. This technique cannot be performed in polluted or acidic water. The brush god associated with this technique is Hasugami, the second of the Hanagami monkey brothers.

Greensprout: Vine - Performed by drawing a line from airborn Konohana blossoms to Amaterasu. This technique will most assuredly be unusable in the city, unless they found themselves in Amaterasu's world by some chance during a field trip. Vine allows the user to traverse high above the ground, swinging from blossom to blossom. The brush god associated with this technique is Tsutagami, the final monkey of the zodiac.

Cherry Bomb - Performed by drawing a circle with a straight 'fuse' sticking out from it. This technique allows you to create massive cherry bombs that will explode into a powerful force of confetti, destroying rocks, pottery, cracks, and greatly damaging and confusing enemies. The brush god associated with this technique is Bakugami, the boar of the zodiac.

Waterspout - There are four different uses for the waterspout technique. To quench fires or to move water from one location to another, you need only to draw a line from the water to where you want to direct it. To turn bubbling springs into geysers to climb up, draw a line straight up from the spring (these geysers only last a short period of time, however!). To use deluge, drawing two vertical lines will cause it to begin raining. The fourth technique associated with waterspout would not come into use in the city, much like vine, and is done by drawing a whirlpool in specific ponds. This allows one to traverse between Mermaid Springs, much like portals. The brush god associated with waterspout is Nuregami, the snake of the zodiac.

Crescent - The sister technique to sunrise, crescent is performed by drawing a curved arc in the sky, much like a waning crescent. This creates or prolongs night time, much like sunrise creates or prolongs day time. The brush god associated with this technique is Yumigami, the rabbit of the zodiac.

Galestorm - Performed by drawing a loop-de-loop or spiral in the air. Loops create gusts of wind that blow from side to side, depending on which direction you've drawn it in. Spirals create gusts of wind that blow forward and backward. The bigger the loop or spiral, the stronger the wind. Drawing three horizontal lines allows Amaterasu to use whirlwind, which is the strongest of the galestorm techniques, and acts like a brief, small tornado. The brush god associated with this technique is Kazegami, the horse of the zodiac.

Inferno - Much like waterspout, this technique is performed by drawing a line from a source of fire to your target, whether it be an enemy or something to ignite. A second technique, fireburst, is done by drawing the infinity sign (∞), and creates a sudden burst of flame that ignites and burns anything in the immediate area. The brush god associated with this technique is Moegami, the rooster of the zodiac.

Veil of Mist - By drawing two horizontal lines, Amaterasu can slow down time around her for four seconds. This allows her to move past incredibly fast enemies before they can strike, or to find an opponent's weak point. It's essentially Matrix bullet time. A second technique is associated with this, but cannot be used in the city or without the Fog Pot item, which would allow Amaterasu to teleport between Ultimate Origin Mirrors. The brush god associated with this technique is Kasugami, the sheep of the zodiac.

Catwalk - Another technique that cannot be used in the city. To use it, Amaterasu would have to draw a line up a vertical surface from a statue of Kabegami, the god associated with this brush technique. She is the cat of the zodiac, originally left out of the Chinese version. Catwalk would allow for Amaterasu to walk up any vertical surface where Kabegami was situated.

Thunderstorm - Much like waterspout and inferno, this technique is performed by drawing a line from an electrical source (whether a pre-existing thunderstorm or some other source does not matter) to the intended target. It will electrocute them or power up machinery. A second technique, thunderbolt, is performed by drawing a sharp, vertical zigzag in the air. It strikes enemies with a bolt of lightning. The brush god associated with this brush technique is Gekigami, the tiger of the zodiac.

Blizzard - The final brush technique, and similar to waterspout, inferno, and thunderstorm, it is performed by drawing a line from a source of ice. It will freeze targets in place for a brief amount of time, or temporarily freeze sources of fire (the fire will eventually melt the ice, and will not actually be extinguished). A second technique, ice storm, can be performed by drawing an asterisk (*) to create a brief snowstorm. The god associated with this brush technique is Itegami, the ox of the zodiac.

First Person:

[ The first thing to appear on the screen is black. That's it. But the audio is clear as day--an animal sniffing at the watch. The nose pulls away from the camera, giving way to white fur and a gold colored eye (red markings around it, should the viewer be able to identify spiritual beings). Amaterasu peers intently into the camera, letting out a soft whuff before whining.

She paws at the pocketwatch, uncertain as to what it is, exactly, but she has an idea what it's for. Vaguely. It looks like one of Waka's pieces of technology, actually!

The city's network is treated to her tongue suddenly swiping across the camera, followed by another whine. She's not about to fully reveal herself yet, but she is going to see if perhaps there are others who know her here.
]

Third Person:

Ears swiveling slowly, taking in all of the sounds around her, Amaterasu moved cautiously across the strange platform she'd found herself on. The train itself had been a particularly confusing endeavor, as she had never seen one before. Its doors were strange, almost like the ones she had encountered in the aristocratic quarters in Seian City, but still they opened for her. She watched it pull away from the station, marveling silently after it as she wondered if it was at all like the Ark.

She hoped not.

She carried on, ears erect and alert now as she moved. Was this a trick of Yami's? She remembered only darkness, and then discovered herself here with a strange watch--which she carried in her mouth, currently--and the warmth that remained from the prayers of Nippon. Her techniques were with her, yes, but only they and the praise that supported them seemed to be what she had. At least she could be thankful for her reflector, but everything else was simply...

Gone. It was frustrating, and the mere thought caused her ears to pin back and her tail to droop. So suddenly had Amaterasu found herself in this place, she had nearly leapt out in an attempt to attack the lord of darkness, only to find she was no longer on the Ark and he was no where to be found.

Had he won? What had become of Waka, who had protected her so bravely? Issun, leading those they had encountered in prayer? She could no longer hear his high-pitched voice, insulting and praising her as it was known to do all at once.

She would find them, whether it be in this strange place or outside of it. If that meant escaping, then so be it. She had done it many times before, and from much stranger locations. This odd... city would not stop her.

I was wondering if you could point out or at least narrow down the problem point on his personality. I understand that the canon point I'm taking him from causes issue, especially as his personality does change after disc 2, and again in the retcon that was engineered during the production of Advent Children. I'd just like to know what you feel is missing. Thanks.

[CANON] Marco || Animorphs || Reserve [2/3]

[personal profile] gorillawarfare 2013-07-23 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
The essence of Marco’s personality could be summarized easily at “grin and bear it”. A teenager who has had too much life and death on his hands, even before the war, Marco has experienced a lot of harrowing events in his life, and those events have created the personality of a guy who forces himself to get through life with a laugh because the alternative gets way too depressing, and honestly, who wants that?

When Marco was young, his mother vanished at sea. Presuming her dead, him and his father attempted to move on with their lives. Or, at least, Marco tried for both of them. The death of his wife, Eva, left Marco’s father nearly catatonic. He completely shut-down. Marco’s father didn’t go to work, resulting in the loss of his job, didn’t run the household or shop for groceries, or any other activity that went beyond standing away from the television. The death of his mother and the involuntary neglect from his father forced Marco to take control of the house, developing a way to keep both him and his father functioning in the real world. The effect the death of his mother had on his father left Marco with a very heavy sense of responsibility. After Eva’s disappearance, Marco took on the role of parent for his family, and as such, he sees protecting his dad and maintaining the family as one of his priorities. Because of this sense of duty, while in the beginning stages of the Animorphs, Marco frequently opted out of the extremely deadly and near-suicidal missions, claiming them to be too dangerous and “totally insane”. While most of the Animorphs took this as cowardice, only Jake, Marco’s best friend since childhood, understood that Marco’s hesitance to the call of galactic heroism stemmed more from a desire to protect his dad from the hurt Marco’s death would cause than a desire to save his own skin.

Jake is one of the few people Marco actively respects. Growing up having to manage himself and his father, combined with a natural, slightly condescending view of the world, there aren’t a lot of people that Marco takes seriously. Overall, Marco tends to make snap judgments of his peers. That isn’t to say that the judgments are permanent, but Marco tends to live by the standby of guilty until proven innocent. He is critical of a lot of people, usually masking the criticism in the form of a joke or dampening the condescending edge to his words with a quick punch line. The majority of his peers are there for amusement, but not for advice. Marco tends to think his view is the right one, and has no problem voicing this opinion. Jake and his parents are the only people Marco will defer to when it comes to arguments, and even then it is usually with no small amount of reservation. Marco has a very limited circle of people who matter, but for that circle he holds a strong sense of loyalty. There is very, very little that Marco wouldn’t do for his close friends and his loved ones, not limiting turning into a fly or cockroach.

When dealing with people, Marco is the easy-going, class clown type. There’s always a wisecrack or one-liner ready to go, and he seems to legitimately enjoy being the one to break the tension or lighten the mood. Whenever an argument breaks out or someone pushes someone else’s buttons, Marco’s there to diffuse the situation with a badly timed knock-knock joke and 90s pop culture reference. No matter what the situation is, Marco knows how to make someone laugh and he can wear a grin just as easily. Marco’s mentality stems from his perception of what’s worth getting upset about, which, in Marco’s books, isn’t much. Canonically, Marco compares the Middle East conflict to fighting over an empty soda can, and the parallel highlights the way his brain works in most situations. Marco doesn’t sweat the small stuff, and usually not even the big stuff. He has the most pragmatic approach to the situations the Animorphs find themselves encountering, and because of his cooler head, he is often the provider of strategy and tactics. Marco knows how to remove himself and his personal feelings away from an environment and see the bigger picture, something that has saved his life and the lives of his friends countless times. However, his pragmatic approach can often come across as heartless or ruthless, since Marco is willing to skew moral ethics to achieve the greater good. This approach is stemmed from his willingness to destroy the yeerks and win the war after discovering his mother was not dead, but enslaved by a yeerk named Visser One, the same yeerk in charge of the clandestine Earth invasion. Even with his desire to end the yeerk invasion and save his mother, Marco still opts for the wait-and-see approach more often than not. Cautious, but not reluctant, Marco knows how to assess all sides before jumping headfirst into the action.

While Marco typically is level-headed, when someone he loves is threatened, he can fly off the handle just as easily as any other of the Animorphs. Whenever his mother is threatened, mentioned, or seen while under the control of a yeerk, Marco has been known to make brash decisions that are typically out of character for him. The same goes with his support of his best friend Jake. Even when Marco knows Jake is clearly going against reason, he has never doubted his leadership or attempted to undermine him. Reason is occasionally placed second to loyalty, but very rarely.

Overall, Marco is a sarcastic, witty young man who knows that cooler heads prevail. He makes a joke of most things as a way to cope with the ridiculousness that his life has become. Outwardly, he is the man making the jokes, the tough calls, and the hesitant remarks that everyone else is thinking. Inwardly, Marco is assessing the dangers that he and his friends are facing and trying to reconcile a victory with them.

Background: Marco's wiki here!

Strengths/Weaknesses: Marco's biggest strength, and the one he is frequently called upon to use in canon, is his ability to see point A to point B. He has a strong, logical mind and he uses that to the best of his ability. One of the more memorable things he states in canon is that "People misunderstand the word 'ruthless', they think it means mean". Marco can see the holes in a plan and does his best to correct them. An extreme pessimist, Marco uses the mentality to draw out the worst-case scenario and do his best to avoid it. He's a tactician.

His biggest weakness is that he's emotionally constipated on some levels and can be a Big Freaking Coward occasionally. He has a lot of avoidance issues, and doesn't face things head-on for the most part. Where some people rise to challenges, Marco gingerly sidesteps them and often uses humor to deflect things he isn't comfortable with.

Abilities:

Marco has the ability to morph into any living creature he "acquires" the DNA from. This ability was given to Marco and four other Earth humans that Marco later coins the "Animorphs". Morphing is "stolen" alien technology, developed by the Andalites and given to the Animorphs from a dying Andalite named Elfangor as a last stand against the invading yeerks (brain slugs, basically). The specifics of morphing are as follows:

* Morphing works basically like shape-shifting. Marco just has to think about the animal he wants to morph into for it to work, and mentally picture himself to morph back

* In order to morph an animal, Marco needs to make physical contact with it first. This is known as "acquiring", and it puts whatever animal Marco is touching into a brief, trance-like state

* Marco can remain in any morph for a maximum of two hours. If he goes over the two hour time limit, he becomes stuck in that animal form forever.

* While in morph, Marco has a limited telepathy that is just used communication. It's known as thought-speak, and it only covers small distances before breaking up - similar to a two-way radio

* If injured, when Marco morphs into an animal and morphs back, the injuries will disappear since his DNA reassembles. This gives him minor regenerative abilities.

* Marco CAN morph into sentient creatures such as humans, Andalites, elves, etc. This won't be done without mun permission and he only uses it for the most extreme circumstances.

Samples

First Person: First person sample! and another!

Third Person:

When Marco told Leno that the next thing he was doing was some traveling, this certainly hadn't been what he had in mind. For one, it was freezing. Freezing implied wearing a sweater. Wearing a sweater meant no primo tanning or an opportunity to showcase his biceps or rocking abs. Two, he had left his vacation all-white linen suit ensemble at home as well as his Italian loafers. Marco might have been a hardened veteran of intergalactic warfare, but he still had his endorsements to protect. One of which was with Galbana, who would probably find a way to succeed where the Yeerks had failed if they noticed he was being photographed wearing outlet mall sneakers. Three, the train was creepy, the town was ominous, a lot of the people here looked like they might want to kill someone, and the seats were this weird material that kept sticking to his butt. Marco had it up to here with creepy. And things that were ominous. And hell, might as well throw upholstery in there too for the record.

Marco could only come to the conclusion that he was being subjected to one of the following:

A. Z-Space Shenanigans, including but not limited to: Body proportion displacement, time travel, omniscient interference, dinosaurs, or the complete massacre of the major laws of physics

B. An alternate universe

C. Alien technology gone awry (their fault for experimenting on Andalite toilets of all things)

D. Kidnapping. Possibly by an omniscient being as referenced in option A.

or

E. Some weird Canadian tourist thing.

Neither of the options were looking good at the moment. A guy saves the world, puts out a best seller, preserves the fragility of the human spirit, and gets rewarded with sticky butt. Typical.

Okay, I just wanted to check in. I agree completely with your own assessment of him, but I guess the way I was approaching it didn't show that off well. I'll take some time to deal with some things coming up offline and perhaps try again in September.

Thanks!
