APPLICATIONS

APPLICATIONS

Applications are processed weekly, every weekend. The cut-off time for the submission of applications is 11:59PST on Saturday.
✗ Before applying, please read the FAQ and Rules pages.
✗ Please submit your application with the journal you plan to use if you have one made already. If not, another journal is fine, but we prefer your intended journal so it makes for an easier time in granting access to the mod journal and the contacts page.
✗ For very long applications, we would ask you to please separate them into various comments so that they will not take up too much of the page.
✗ Please title your application as { [CANON/CANON OC/OC]CHARACTER NAME || Series Title || reserve/no reserve || X of X } in the subect header
IMPORTANT: Our application form was edited on September 07, 2015. Please use the revised form.
✗ If you are looking for an example of what an application should be like, please refer to the application here for an example of a canon character application, and here for an original character application.

A note for CR AU applications
Ruby City does allow previous game history/CR to be brought over on a case by case basis. If you want to include this in your application please add additional sections for PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT and PREVIOUS GAME HISTORY beneath the Personality and Background/History sections.

In these additional sections we would like to see a brief outline of your character's previous game history and how it potentially impacted on and altered their canon personality.

CHARACTER
Name: Nikola Tesla
Canon: Sanctuary
Timeline: End of Season Four
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: Not applicable.

Personality: Nikola Tesla is an immortal vampire, a result of experiments with the Source Blood that The Five (including James Watson and Helen Magnus) participated in at Oxford. For the better part of the following century, this fueled both his personality and his plans.

Tesla was, for most of the first three seasons, arrogant and convinced of his own genius - though in the latter case the creation of numerous technological marvels such as a cure for a super virus, the ability to artificially create vampires, and a shield to hide vampiric traits from the advanced technology of Hollow Earth. A firm believer in technology and progress, this also leads to a certain rashness in his character, willing to experiment first without consideration of consequences.

Early on, he appeared as a villain - isolation and his desire to resurrect the vampire race had pushed him closer to madness (as well as potentially not using the medication that controlled his bloodlust). This even led him to attack Helen, a woman he professed love for. But as their encounters progressed, and they found themselves arrayed against the Cabal, he became more of a problematic ally.

And despite his arrogance, and willingness to mock those he considers lesser, he still revealed traits of his better side - speaking highly of James Watson after his death, and helping John Druitt annihilate the Cabal after their actions led to the death of Helen's daughter.

In the third season, he lost and regained his vampiric powers (which it turned out he was quite attached to) - but two encounters with other vampires disappointed him immensely and removed his desire to restore the race. With these actions, he became more and more an ally.

By the end of the fourth season, he was a solid ally, though his impulsiveness and arrogance remained. They were mellowed by a degree of respect for his Sanctuary allies. In four years, his personality evolved from villain to impish problem/periodic ally, to somewhat altruistic. Likely this is the result of contact with Helen and the other members of the Sanctuary.

First Person:

[The view that swims into vision is a young-looking man, in an excellent, modern suit. He looks mildly curious, and significantly annoyed, at the change of circumstances]

So I found myself on a train. And you know, I haven't traveled by train since the late 1930s - so something has gone significantly wrong.

[He looks around for a moment, tsking quietly]

I'm afraid I'm going to have to do something terrible to whomever is behind this. [Here, he smiles] That part might be fun, but first I'm going to find out what makes this place tick.

[The smile becomes a grin, and he gestures at himself] Nikola Tesla, by the way. And I happen to be a genius - your system's days are limited.

Third Person:

With a bottle of wine uncorked by his side, Nikola Tesla created. There should have been a fanfare, he believed - some sort of ceremony to such things. But, he sighed to himself, the satisfaction of creating something new in the realm of technology was reward enough.

He toiled in the Sanctuary lab, a rare moment alone. He wondered what Helen and her little team were doing - something about...something, he hadn't really been paying attention. If this worked, he'd find a way to use Worth's temporal technology safely, and the magnitude of that potential achievement held his full attention.

He loved to create, to solve, to innovate - to draw together the gossamer threads of technology into something amazing. He sipped the wine - ah, a rather lovely Merlot - and...wait, perhaps - if he could combine parts of Worth's mechanisms with his own efforts at creating wireless electricity, he could potentially find a way to break through the barriers between worlds. He started to work anew, in another, more interesting direction.

He'd have to tell Helen about his idea - perhaps he'd bring her a bottle of wine tonight, suggesting they enjoy it together. He had persisted in his pursuit of her for years now, and he'd find his way to her heart eventually. Because if he was one thing other than brilliant, it was persistent. He grinned to himself, and worked on.
