APPLICATIONS

APPLICATIONS

Applications are processed weekly, every weekend. The cut-off time for the submission of applications is 11:59PST on Saturday.
✗ Before applying, please read the FAQ and Rules pages.
✗ Please submit your application with the journal you plan to use if you have one made already. If not, another journal is fine, but we prefer your intended journal so it makes for an easier time in granting access to the mod journal and the contacts page.
✗ For very long applications, we would ask you to please separate them into various comments so that they will not take up too much of the page.
✗ Please title your application as { [CANON/CANON OC/OC]CHARACTER NAME || Series Title || reserve/no reserve || X of X } in the subect header
IMPORTANT: Our application form was edited on September 07, 2015. Please use the revised form.
✗ If you are looking for an example of what an application should be like, please refer to the application here for an example of a canon character application, and here for an original character application.

A note for CR AU applications
Ruby City does allow previous game history/CR to be brought over on a case by case basis. If you want to include this in your application please add additional sections for PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT and PREVIOUS GAME HISTORY beneath the Personality and Background/History sections.

In these additional sections we would like to see a brief outline of your character's previous game history and how it potentially impacted on and altered their canon personality.

CHARACTER
Name: Haku
Canon: Naruto
Timeline: After his death

Personality: There are very few things more painful than living an existence that is both meaningless and unwanted. It is a feeling that Haku knows intimately. His country was tainted with war, breeding fear and hatred of those with bloodline abilities. Those emotions tore his happy family apart and forced him to kill. He became a little boy alone in the world, hyperaware of his own undesirable existence. This is where his complex in having a purpose originated, and where he began conflating the ideas that a life worth living was only a life lived for another’s sake.

Starving, cold, and alone he was given the option of being wanted in his entirety. Even at a young age Haku was aware just how onesided the relationship he signed himself up for was, but still gladly became a tool so long as he could continue a life that was wanted. Though he believes his master to have no feelings toward him he is still deeply invested in Zabuza’s happiness and his dreams, to the point that all of Haku’s dreams revolve around the other man’s. Vicariously, he takes his purpose from someone else entirely, and when he is no longer of use to that person he feels as if his purpose is stolen from him. He accepts, and even enjoys his status as a tool, following Zabuza with the kind of loving devotion that can’t be bought.

When working he is nearly the perfect shinobi, able to be cold and calculating within battle and kill when it is required of him even if it isn’t the most pleasurable option. He is the perfect weapon, worrying enough about his life to not step blindly into a fight, but at the same time willing to throw it away at a moment’s notice in order to protect his master. Haku serves as a weapon, shield, and strategist, entirely capable of acting of his own accord to fulfill his master’s needs. Being so fine-tuned to Zabuza’s needs is something he takes particular pride in.

Outside of battle the cold façade fades away and leaves nothing but a soft-spoken young boy. His kind heart often steps in the way of his duties, making it impossible for him to kill as readily as most other seasoned shinobi. This is because harming others goes against his kind nature. Each death leaves wounds on his heart, each one bared for the sake of servitude. For this reason, Haku avoids killing whenever possible, preferring to incapacitate his foes by placing them into death-like states whenever possible. Even when given an enemy in a venerable state he could not bring himself to hurt them, and instead woke them gently so that they would no longer be sleeping outside. Even in anger he works toward causing the least amount of harm, possible.

While unquestioning in his devotion he is not blindly obedient or subservient, and will go against orders for his own reasons so long as they don’t conflict with his master’s plans. He will even stop Zabuza’s actions when he believes that they are harmful to the long-term goal. Being comfortable enough in his master’s company, he is able to address him with a casual attitude and act in Zabuza’s best interest without fear of reprimand.

A gentle and eager young boy, it’s unfortunate that he died feeling that his purpose had been robbed from him.

First Person: [The train jolts to a stop, some invisible presence giving the order to leave. Haku isn’t one to argue over orders as insistent as the nagging sensation pressing against the base of his skull. The whistle and natural groan of aging metal parts feel far too loud to his ears after the emptiness of death. As the hulking transport disappears into the fog he can’t help but wonder if it is the ferry of the dead, or if the events of the bridge were only a twisted imagining.

But the damp evidence still clings to his skin tainting the smell of fresh air with the tang of metal, and when he runs a finger over his wet cheek he feels the twinge of pain from a growing bruise. The wound has closed, but the tattered hole in his haori stays as a relic of his actions. No sense in pretending, delusion is a crutch of the weak.

Haku isn’t entirely certain what he expected of the afterlife. Not this, at least.

He abandons the empty tracks and their endless questions. No answers will be found by standing around like a fool.

And according to these signs, no allies will be made by slinking around in the shadows either. A little searching produces a watch tucked under his sash, a little outdated, and fundamentally terrible at the ‘time telling’ aspect of its design, but looking well suited for the communicator feature.

He takes several minutes with the frayed end of his sash and the reflective surface of his Hitai-ate, just wiping off as much of the gore as possible. Troublemakers face punishment, and painting himself as one during his first steps into this bizarre life-after-life isn’t exactly prudent. His clothes are hopeless, but at least now he isn’t wearing his own blood like gaudy make-up any more.

Finding which buttons provide which functions is the easy part, and no longer than a minute he has the video feed on.
]

Good morning. I am Haku, I am a Genin of Kirigakure-

[A little white lie couldn’t hurt. No sense in broadcasting both his skill and missing-nin status all in one go.]

-I have just arrived by train, and I hope someone could answer my questions. As well… I had a comrade with me. I need to know that he is safe.

[With his feminine features and soft voice it wouldn’t be a stretch for people to believe him a young girl. They have before. Playing the part may even provide much needed information.]

Third Person: (OOC: Does writing for kid-Haku count?)
His legs burned from exertion, shaking ever-so-slightly under his weight. Ten laps had become twenty, and then thirty. At some point he had lost count and the blur of passing trees and ragged breathing just melded together into nothing. Still, he forced himself forward. He had to.

Zabuza had left him alone to train, that had been hours ago. It was the first time that he had ever been left on his own, and he was going to prove that the trust placed in him was well placed. He would not slack for even a second, lest he be caught in such a situation. No one would want a tool that lazed about the moment they turned away. Even if Haku’s feet bleed he would not stop.

It was only the image of rare praise that kept him going.

Even that didn’t seem to be enough. The little boy woke up hours later, tucked away in a futon that he had no recollection of crawling into. Haku blinked away the sleep that clouded his vision, the dilapidated cabin they had taken as their own feeling out of place after falling asleep with a cheek in the dirt. Someone had plucked his exhausted body out of the dirt. That someone had also left a sternly worded note tucked under lukewarm tea to the effect of “Sleep. You’re useless if you’re exhausted.”

It was stupid to cry. Not fitting of a ninja, and going against every bit of training he had ever endured. Yet here he was, dripping tears over a note that was terse and emotionless, because it meant the world to him. He was still wanted. Even after showing weakness a purpose remained.

He made the mistake before. And it would be made again. Each and every misstep would be followed by the fear of losing it all, and one day he truly would, but it was those small signs that he was still needed that made his life worth living. He drank his tea, nose scrunched at the tepid and unsweetened drink, but swallowing each drop down because it had been made just for him. Today was for sleep, but tomorrow he would prove himself useful.
