APPLICATIONS

Applications are processed weekly, every weekend. The cut-off time for the submission of applications is 11:59PST on Saturday.
✗ Before applying, please read the FAQ and Rules pages.
✗ Please submit your application with the journal you plan to use if you have one made already. If not, another journal is fine, but we prefer your intended journal so it makes for an easier time in granting access to the mod journal and the contacts page.
✗ For very long applications, we would ask you to please separate them into various comments so that they will not take up too much of the page.
✗ Please title your application as { [CANON/CANON OC/OC]CHARACTER NAME || Series Title || reserve/no reserve || X of X } in the subect header
IMPORTANT: Our application form was edited on September 07, 2015. Please use the revised form.
✗ If you are looking for an example of what an application should be like, please refer to the application here for an example of a canon character application, and here for an original character application.

A note for CR AU applications
Ruby City does allow previous game history/CR to be brought over on a case by case basis. If you want to include this in your application please add additional sections for PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT and PREVIOUS GAME HISTORY beneath the Personality and Background/History sections.

In these additional sections we would like to see a brief outline of your character's previous game history and how it potentially impacted on and altered their canon personality.

Personality: Vergil is very calm and composed, generally showing little emotion aside from his determination. Even if he were truly shocked or afraid, he would make a great effort not to show it. He's very much the opposite of his brother, he doesn't speak unnecessarily, and thinks things through much more than Dante. 'Calculating' is definitely a good word to encompass him. Vergil has quite the high-and-mighty attitude, brushing off any who do not seem worth his time. He brushes off Arkham, who he is supposedly in a sort of partnership with, constantly speaking down to him. He's so hostile, in fact, that in the manga, after first telling him off twice, Vergil kills the librarian who appears along with Arkham. Nevertheless, he does make a few quips, though only after Dante's prompting. Alternatively, to show how much better he is, and how lowly and stupid others are, he definitely wouldn't be above sarcastic remarks.

Vergil has high ambitions and is ruthless in attaining them, entirely willing to sacrifice his own twin for his goals, as well as intending to use Arkham only so long as he's useful and to later kill him. He feels to not seek greater strength is a sign of weakness, and weakness is like a disease, something shameful and disgusting. Several times he openly looks down on Dante for not embracing his demon half and casting aside the human part, nor pursuing further power as he does. Despite his merciless nature, he believes in a sort of warrior's code. Vergil sees attacking an opponent from behind, using guns, or otherwise 'fighting dirty' as unacceptable behaviour. It's unsightly. Everything is built up on pride with him. From combat to appearance, if he can't somehow use it as a tool for condescension, it's no good. He can talk down to people like Dante for looking like a slob while he's prim and proper, his hair and clothes all just-so. He can talk down to people like Dante for using guns, an unpolished fighting style or lack of booksmarts because he would never use a gun, it's barbaric, not something a true warrior would resort to, likewise a true warrior should have complete mastery over his weapons and his own strength, but it shouldn't be just that, physical strength must be coupled with intellectual strength. You can't be perfect in only one area, it's all or nothing.

There are several reasons Vergil is obsessed with strength. One is pure selfishness. He wants his own greatness. Another, the shame of living in his father's shadow. It's a constant for both brothers to be compared to their father, for Vergil this means two things, he's seen as a traitor, and only half as powerful as his father, if even that. He wants to break out of both these misconceptions, prove he can be a great leader among demons, and surpass his father's legend. The next reason is out of guilt for his mother's death. Even though he was only eight years old at the time, he feels gulty for being unable to save her and thinks he should have been able to do so. Along with this, he's ashamed to have ever been weak. He was eight, anyone would be, there's no way a child could have stood up to a horde of demons, but still, his mother was attacked, and he was attacked. They made a fool of him, but he doesn't ever have to be degraded again if he can become more powerful than any other. At one point, he tells Dante, "might controls everything, and without strength you cannot protect anything, let alone yourself".

He does not, in fact, hold great hatred for his brother. Vergil is baffled by Dante's chosen path, they are very different people despite being twins and close during childhood, and it seems their encounters almost always end in a battle due to their vastly differing opinions and personalities. However, at the same time, despite their hostility, if their goals are ever not contrasting, it's even possible for them to work together. Of course, this can change in a splitsecond, but, both brothers care more for eachother than they show. Vergil at times tries to pass this off as disdain, such as when he tells Dante to hurry back to the human world before the gate closes and traps him in Hell. He tries to make it sound like he thinks Dante wouldn't be able to handle it, but really it's his own pride in not accepting help after losing a fight and concern for his brother's safety. There are multiple times Vergil very well could have killed his twin, and even acts as if he had intended to, but leaves him alive, and only wounded enough to incapacitate him for a few moments to get away.
Though he would deny it, he has some sentimentality. But that's something only humans feel, certainly not demons, it's a sign of weakness. So he'll try his best to cover it up, and to cast it aside. In fact, every bit of his humanity is something he wishes to be rid of, and makes great efforts to act as if he lacks. And while it does seem as if he has entirely forsaken and rid himself of it, that isn't true. It's only seen in small doses which would otherwise appear to be simple mistakes or even condescension, but it's definitely there. In addition, as Nelo Angelo he seems to feel great pain whenever he spots Dante's amulet and is reminded of who he is. This is probably largely due to anger over being controlled, but it's undeniable that another important factor is remembering how things used to be, and not wishing to fight his brother.

Abilities: As Vergil is half-demon, he has superhuman strength, speed and regenerative powers. He is also able to transform into his demon form. Vergil generally fights with his sword, Yamato, in addition, in DMC3 he uses summoned swords and a pair of gauntlets and greaves along with his father's sword. As Nelo Angelo, his default weapon is a zweihander, while he is also shown to use gauntlets and greaves that seem to be Beowulf, summoned swords and blasts of energy from his fists (SO COOL AND SHOUNEN!!!1!).

Yamato
A devil arm once used by his father and gifted to him on his eighth birthday. Used in conjunction with its sheath, in more ways than one. He uses both to attack in the Iaido style, but more importantly, he is able to 'slice the air' with the sword, sending the impact to his opponent. It often seems attacks from Yamato are delayed, more often than not showing the injury taking place after the sword is sheathed. This is actually proof of his incredible speed, Vergil does all this before it can be fully realised by the human eye.

Beowulf
A pair of gauntlets and greaves. They come with 'spikes', or 'claws' on the ends, to pack a more forceful punch (or kick, as the case may be) and is light-based. It's the soul of a demon he defeated, contained within the weapon, though it has no life in itself. This really only means it is embued with the power of the demon.

Devil Trigger
His true demon form. This increases all attributes, though it's something which takes greater concentration and use of demonic energy(basically MP). His Devil Trigger is somewhat different depending on the chosen weapon, but it's really just an extreme power up in any case. For a half-demon, it's too difficult to hold for a long period of time. It releases their full demonic potential, though at the cost of exertion. On the other hand, it does restore health, so the loss of energy can be very much worth it. It also basically makes him move at the speed of sound. Okay not that fast, but it's like someone hit fastforward.
Nelo Angelo is a corrupted and permanent Devil Trigger under Mundus' control. It can be assumed to have left him when he died, and was discarded by Mundus.

Force Edge
This sword, man. It's basically all of Sparda's demon power put into a sword, so suffice to say, it's pretty strong. All the badguys want it. It also happened to be part of the seal to the demon world. In DMC3 at least, in DMC4 it was Yamato, but Capcom+DMC+timelines=clusterfuck of contradictions, so sometimes we just pretend things didn't happen. When using the Force Edge, Vergil still uses Yamato as well, it replaces the sheath to fight with TWO DAMN SWORDS.

Summoned Swords
Personally I think they look like the Force Edge, but DMC4 has them associated with the Yamato in that they're able to be summoned when Yamato is in use. And then there's DMC1 where Nelo Angelo uses them while having access to neither. So I guess they're just a thing Vergil can do somehow. Either way, they're phantom swords which can be shot at enemies or circle around Vergil to be used as a sort of barrier. Like Devil Trigger, using them as a barrier takes up demonic energy/MP.

Zweihander
Seems to act like Dante's Rebellion for the most part. Big ol' two-hander. Not a lot to say here. It's not

In addition, as he is a demon, if only half, his strength, speed and natural healing powers are incredible. Even while Dante is considered to be incredibly talented and powerful, Vergil is generally considered to be the better swordsman and more trained of the two. He beats Dante two out of three times, after all. He is noted to have particular skill in appearing to teleport from his great speed. Though never shown with Vergil himself, Dante is time and time again run through with his own sword (like, it's a running joke, it happens 24/7 and he just pulls himself right off it), or shot between the eyes (digs it on out of there and keeps having a conversation), as they're twins, it isn't any stretch at all to assume Vergil is just the same.

As far as what he would have on him coming in, just the zweihander and Beowulf for physical weapons, along with his abilities, of course.

First Person: Here

Third Person: Vergil wandered the streets of Ruby City after stepping off the train. He was still dazed, having spent years under Mundus' control. For him this included a distinct lack of a blue coat. Normally the weather would have affected him very little, but in his weakened state he felt the chill. And the sword at his side one rather unfamiliar. He vaguely remembered wielding such a sword when the corruption controlled him, but had no recollection of it otherwise. It wasn't his sword, not Yamato, and he had to find it.

Being free of his forced obedience was practically a miracle, even if it came at the cost of losing a fight to Dante. But he thought he died then. How, then, is it he found himself stepping off the train to an unknown city? He noted the lack of demons. He could feel some presence, but nothing like that of his own world. Merely a few inhabitants, as opposed to cities with a near-infestation. Then again, his senses may have dulled.

He cursed under his breath. He was a great demon, how could he become so pathetic? A warrior such as himself should answer to no one, and yet, he did, and now he was without his most precious posessions, and lacking in strength. He hated it. With that anger boiling in him, a nearby streetlight soon met with his blade and fell into the street behind him. He had to find the Yamato. His amulet. ...Maybe a coat.

Spotting the clocktower, he knew immediately it would be the best place to stay a while and observe. A good place to find the other demons without being found himself.

[CANON] Iris Hawthorne | Ace Attorney | Not Reserved 2 of 2

[personal profile] non_toxic 2013-12-07 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
CHARACTER
Name: Iris Hawthorne
Canon: Ace Attorney
Age: 25
Timeline: Post-Trials and Tribulations
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: Juniper is more tied to Apollo and Athena, while Iris is more tied to Phoenix and Maya. There's no reason they have to ever cross paths.

Personality: Iris is an individual with extremely small self-esteem, and doesn't have any issues taking the blame for her sister or people she knows, whether it was partially her fault or not her fault at all. Because of this, however, she doesn't have much of a backbone and will more often than not give in and not argue with people. She feels like she is a burden to everyone and the cause of their issues, whether it's true or otherwise. She has a very pessimistic view on herself and will generally shoot down any praise she gets unless it's heavily warranted. Due to this she is very protective of information about her past and things she would prefer to keep silent about, however she is terrible at keeping secrets. When she is bullied or berated enough, especially by her sister Dahlia, she will lose all the small courage she has and defer to their logic and reasonings, especially if it's something Iris was involved in. She is modest about herself (again because of the low self-esteem) and will praise others over herself in any situation. She doesn't believe she's actually good for anything, but will still help others in need as best she can.

Despite all of this, she is very kind and polite, and tries her best to be nice to everyone she meets, even if they're being mean or rude to her. Because of this, she's able to usually keep an optimistic view on anything or anyone that is not herself. Because of her kindness however, which can be described as 'sickly sweet', she's easy to manipulate, especially by anyone that knows her very well or she's good friends with. She's also easy to deceive, and usually will not think twice about the sincerity of anything she's told unless it's obvious otherwise. She's also fairly shy when she's embarrassed or flustered and will generally not start conversations unless she is simply greeting the person or has something to talk to them about.

Iris believes there is good in everyone, even a little bit, though others believe she is a poor judge of character because of this (when in reality she's a faily good judge of character, but doesn't actively show it). She tries to be considerate of others' feelings when talking to them, and though she will help others, she generally waits to ask unless she knows the person very well, just in case she's not butting into something she has no business knowing about.

When people believe in Iris and praise her, she feels somewhat confident. However, when it comes to people that do the opposite, and when she is put down by her twin sister Dahlia, she tends to hide herself and feel like she's the cause of everyone's issues. She's still atoning for the sins she made five years prior and due to this, she won't be feeling very good about herself for a long time.

Background: Here!

Abilities: Iris has no special abilities that make her stand out in the crowd, other than being able to break physical psyche-locks (not the mental kind that require something like a Magatama to break).

First Person: Here!

Third Person: Here! I know the sample bends between past and present tense a few times, but it's mostly in past tense and was intended to set up a scene (which would have worked far better with prose than brackets.) Apologies for that!

Third Person Sample:

The ordeal at Hazakura Temple was more than Iris had ever bargained for, especially considering what everyone else had to go through for it. But when she was taken in to the Detention Center for her role in being an accomplice, she couldn't help but think back on it all. Even for a brief moment, she had gotten to see her sister again; she had been given the opportunity to come clean to Phoenix about how when her sister Dahlia gave him the implicating evidence of her killing someone and tried to get it back, Iris came in her place and tried to do it herself, but ended up falling in love with him.

It wasn't long, however, before she realized she wasn't in the back of a police vehicle anymore; she was on a train. And she had no recollection of ever boarding this train. There was a train ride down from Hazakura, but this was very obviously not the same kind of train. And as it came to a screeching halt in front of a city, Iris knew very well she wasn't in Kansas Los Angeles anymore.

As she departed the train, she began to take in her surroundings, noting how different it was from Los Angeles itself, and realized she needed to find a shelter. Perhaps some of the locals knew where she was, and why she ended up there. This was certainly... interesting. But she had no choice in the matter. The only way she was going to get back home was to figure out where she was, and then how to get back...
