APPLICATIONS

Applications are processed weekly, every weekend. The cut-off time for the submission of applications is 11:59PST on Saturday.
✗ Before applying, please read the FAQ and Rules pages.
✗ Please submit your application with the journal you plan to use if you have one made already. If not, another journal is fine, but we prefer your intended journal so it makes for an easier time in granting access to the mod journal and the contacts page.
✗ For very long applications, we would ask you to please separate them into various comments so that they will not take up too much of the page.
✗ Please title your application as { [CANON/CANON OC/OC]CHARACTER NAME || Series Title || reserve/no reserve || X of X } in the subect header
IMPORTANT: Our application form was edited on September 07, 2015. Please use the revised form.
✗ If you are looking for an example of what an application should be like, please refer to the application here for an example of a canon character application, and here for an original character application.

A note for CR AU applications
Ruby City does allow previous game history/CR to be brought over on a case by case basis. If you want to include this in your application please add additional sections for PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT and PREVIOUS GAME HISTORY beneath the Personality and Background/History sections.

In these additional sections we would like to see a brief outline of your character's previous game history and how it potentially impacted on and altered their canon personality.

CHARACTER
Name: Rudolph
Canon: Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer, Rudolph's Shiny New Year, Rudolph and Frosty's Christmas in July
Age: At least two Christmases old. Early teens human-wise probably.
Timeline: The month of August in the year 19Wonderful (that is actually the year. that is its name. watch the movie....basically a month after the events of the third film.)

Personality:

Rudolph is the picture of childhood innocence. Think of a boyscout with a set of hooves. He is only two Christmases old and has yet to see much of the world. Rudolph is ready to trust and give new friends the benefit of the doubt, though will react properly in the face of obvious danger...like a giant ageless vulture trying to eat his face. The little reindeer is also forgiving when someone proves that their intentions are good. He's a firm believer in second chances and even forgave those who ridiculed him as a child. Growing up at the North pole and hearing so many stories about peace on earth and good will toward men has made him a tad gullible and easy to manipulate. He is an AWFUL liar and has a poker face like a children's pop-up book. Only once has he told a lie and it was for what he thought was a good reason. Terrible things happened and some people almost died. Like that is actually what happened. It's more likely for him to be eaten up with guilt halfway through whatever he's trying to say and spill the beans before a lie to ever makes it out into the open.

He is also very brave, ready to risk life and limb for family and friends and occasionally people who don't even deserve it. Like most wild animals, Rudolph knows how to use his sharp hooves and antlers to defend himself. After running away from home as a youngster, he more or less raised himself and became quite independent. While he's good at making friends, he knows that they come and go. He loves to help out anyone he can, but shudders to think of having to depend on anyone else for too much. The little deer has a bad habit of keeping things bottled up and trying to do everything all by himself. Though he is brave, he can still be frightened as deer are naturally skittish creatures. Talking, flying deer are no different, and in a new and strange hostile world like Ruby City, it might be wise to keep an eye open for flailing hooves.

In a way, Rudolph is glad most everyone he meets already knows his story because he isn't about to burst into song himself. He's modest and sometimes a little shy about the whole hullabaloo. the yearling doesn't know how to be a celebrity.

He's forgiven others for what happened those long Christmases ago, but sometimes it still hurts to think about all the names he was called and how his own father tried to hide his 'deformity'. He finds comfort in the presence other 'misfits' and will stand up for anyone who is being teased about something they have no control over. He does his best to give them encouragement and show them that they are not alone. Just like his nose, hope glows from inside him. Rudolph does not give up when he's made a promise or has been given a mission. He's gone through frozen wastes, sandy deserts, and time itself in order to do his duty. He's ready to take charge and set things right and sometimes this lands him in over his furry little head. Why, if Rudolph doesn't do it, who will? The kid is a Hufflepuff to the core.

Background: You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen. Comet and Cupid and Donner and Blitzen... nah, I'm not gonna do that to you.

This little deer has been through some weird stuff. Battling evil wizards, time travel, talking with gods...

Abilities:

Ole' Neon Nose: After a devastating battle with the evil wizard, Winterbolt, the good Lady Boreal marked the newborn Rudolph with a special symbol on his hoof--a star within a snowflake. Then, she placed the very last of her power within the little reindeer calf in the form of his signature glowing nose.

He has a dead god in his face.

It sheds light and warmth upon anything within range when he thinks good thoughts. It can blaze through fog and melt ice. If he really wanted to, I'm sure he could give somebody a good burn to show he meant business. However, if he ever uses it for evil, this precious gift will go away. It can only be regained by writing the wrong.

Up On the Rooftop: When special magic corn by Santa, all of his reindeer are able to fly for a time! It is assumed that they are always fed this treat since young deer are seen learning to control this ability early on in the first film. Without access to it, they are grounded, as seen in the other two films. When Rudolph is away from home and surviving on roughage, he tends to hoof it, though he can still make very impressive leaps.

First Person:

[The feed is filled and obscured with a bright red light.]

Oh...oh, this is worse than those old telephones they have in the shop. But there's no dial or talk-into or listen-into or anything.

[There is a furious scraping as the little caribou tries to work buttons with a cloven hoof. Rudolph dims his nose and his spirits follow. His ears fall alongside his neck and he shivers. His winter coat hadn't had time to grow in.]

[All buttons have to do something, right? Otherwise they wouldn't be on there! Unless they were just painted on...but these sure don't look painted on.]

Well...maybe I can find a policeman. He'll know what time it is.

[Rudolph picks up the watch with his mouth and away he trots.]

Third Person:

He had to admit that even though the town was strange and he hadn't wanted to end up in it at all, Ruby City sure was pretty with a blanket of snow over it. But then again, Rudolph always thought snow was pretty. It had been nice to go to the seashore and feel the warm summer breezes that one time, but the snow was his favorite. He'd been raised in snow. High above the rooftops and even the towering point of the obelisk, the reindeer's hooves pawed the sky.

He had tried to stay atop the train when it pulled away from the station without him, but a stubborn gust of wind had tumbled him down like a Fall leaf. Rudolph didn't think he had quite enough get-up-and-go left to fly all the way back to the North Pole, but he was sure he had enough flight left in him to get his bearings. On and on he flew. The crumbling wall of the city passed below him and the snowy, monster-filled wilds appeared. He could hear the calls of some terrible-sounding animals echoing up from below, but Rudolph couldn't let himself get distracted.

Trees and rocks and mountain slopes all covered in winter blurred below him. Whenever he looked over his shoulder, no matter the distance, he could always see that red spire standing tall in the little town.

"I wonder why we never stopped in this town before," he mumbled to himself.

Suddenly, a darkness darker than the inside of a polar bear swept over him. Rudolph cried out and reared in mid-air. The scenery had gone. The clouds had gone. The sky had gone! It was like the time Santa had tried showing some old home movies and the tape reel snapped in the middle of the showing. Everything just stopped.

Rudolph wheeled around in place. He could see the edge of the wilderness plain as day a quarter mile behind him. His light blinked on. The reindeer arched his neck and willed the aurora within him to shine into this strange pit. It revealed nothing. Startled to the bone, Rudolph kicked and sprang in the air as he scurried back for the shoreline. Landline? Some kind of line! A place with ground and snow and trees and something he could see. If his flight gave out before he got back, he'd be a goner!

When his hooves touched down on rock, Rudolph instinctively lowered his still-growing antlers against the darkness, as if it were an enormous monster that might suddenly lurch forward. When this stand-off didn't go anywhere, Rudolph gave a wary little snort and turned his back to the void.

"Well...guess I can't go that way." He turned his eyes skyward. Snow drifted down innocently all around him, as if he weren't standing at the very edge of the world. A beep issued up from the strange watch that hung from his neck and he tipped his head down. "And I still don't know what to do with you..."

He sighed and started walking back the way he flew. If he used up all his flight getting back to town, he would have nothing left to find his way home with.
