APPLICATIONS

Applications are processed weekly, every weekend. The cut-off time for the submission of applications is 11:59PST on Saturday.
✗ Before applying, please read the FAQ and Rules pages.
✗ Please submit your application with the journal you plan to use if you have one made already. If not, another journal is fine, but we prefer your intended journal so it makes for an easier time in granting access to the mod journal and the contacts page.
✗ For very long applications, we would ask you to please separate them into various comments so that they will not take up too much of the page.
✗ Please title your application as { [CANON/CANON OC/OC]CHARACTER NAME || Series Title || reserve/no reserve || X of X } in the subect header
IMPORTANT: Our application form was edited on September 07, 2015. Please use the revised form.

A note for CR AU applications
Ruby City does allow previous game history/CR to be brought over on a case by case basis. If you want to include this in your application please add additional sections for PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT and PREVIOUS GAME HISTORY beneath the Personality and Background/History sections.

In these additional sections we would like to see a brief outline of your character's previous game history and how it potentially impacted on and altered their canon personality.

[CANON] Maya Fey || Reserve || 2 of 4

[personal profile] missleadingquestions 2013-06-05 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
In a game about solving murder cases and proving your defendants innocent, things can get rather heavy. Maya Fey, sister of Phoenix Wright’s mentor Mia Fey, provides a glimmer of sunshine in situations that could otherwise be intensely frustrating. Maya Fey is a nearly unstoppable force and an incredible sidekick. While sometimes naïve, childish, and clumsy, she can also be incredibly clever. Phoenix and Maya think about things very differently, thus allowing them to see almost every possibility when they work together. It’s a good thing, too; where Phoenix might miss something, Maya is almost always sure to pick it up.

She is a little immature, and much like the rest of the cast, a huge dork. Maya enjoys samurai movies and ‘kid shows’, as well as collecting trading cards from those shows. She loves to investigate and cause minor trouble, and often teases Phoenix with ‘criminal’ ideas. Maya loves things, and that’s important; what Maya likes, Maya is passionate about. Whether it’s food or being a medium, or people who are important to her, Maya is a passionate girl with a fiery spirit and a bit of an attitude to keep up with Phoenix.

Maya also has an absolutely voracious appetite. She often jokes about having four stomachs; one for burgers, one for steaks, one for sweets, and one for all the other things she could eat. She jokes about a lot of things, in fact, and sometimes does so seemingly only to give Phoenix grief. Her curiosity, voracity, and stubborn persistence liken her to a juvenile cat; not quite a baby, but still pushing her nose into everything even if it might burn her paws. Maya certainly isn’t afraid to get burnt, either; she’ll do what she can, even if she regrets it afterward. If anything, she certainly can’t stay down for long-- Maya seems nigh incapable of holding a grudge or staying down for the count. Only when things are weighing down on her after believing she is not able to help Edgeworth, who she has come to see as a friend through Phoenix, does she feel down on herself for quite a while.

This, however, is where Maya Fey becomes most incredible. Maya’s deepest love is for other people and she can consider people friends even only after days of meeting them. She feels genuine joy for their successes and sorrow for their downfalls, and is incredibly empathetic. She is the one who is most enthusiastic about Phoenix’s new position as head of the law office, even if he is replacing the job of Maya’s deceased sister. Maya is the one to risk herself being in contempt of court when Lotta Hart’s testimony isn’t adding up and the Judge and prosecutor Von Karma refuse to listen to Phoenix, and shows no remorse about being sent to the detention center for a second time. It’s Maya who, when Prosecutor Von Karma threatens Phoenix and Maya with an over-charged tazer, jumps in front of Phoenix in attempts to grab the evidence Von Karma is stealing and give Phoenix enough time to run before Von Karma can attack him as well. Maya Fey may be clumsy, curious, and immature, but it’s her strong, golden heart that makes her such a great assistant and eventually, a grand mystic.

[CANON] Maya Fey || Reserve || 3 of 4

[personal profile] missleadingquestions 2013-06-05 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
Strengths/Weaknesses:

+/-; Stubborn
For better or for worse, Maya is rather hard-headed. She's almost unstoppable, and has pretty strong convictions. But this hardheadedness can also get her into trouble-- in or out of the courtroom.

-; Naïve
While she's doing her best to become an adult, Maya still has all the wonder of a kid. This means she can sometimes get herself into uncomfortable situations, simply by touching things she isn't supposed to, being too nosy, or being incredibly... gullible. She hasn't got much of a sarcasm metre.

+; Big heart
Self-sacrificing and sweet, Maya Fey puts the feelings of others before herself, especially when it comes to her friends and family. It's a trait she seems to share with her older sister, and one that keeps her strong when the going gets tough. While at times it may seem she hasn't got much conviction for herself, she'll even bravely face a harrowing tragedy for the sake of lightening a close relative's pain.

-?; Small
Physically, Maya is small and looks younger than she is. She can't put up too much of a fight, and has been taken advantage of because of this before; it was very easy to frame her for the deaths of her sister and of her client through physical manipulation.

+/-; Nosey Inquisitive Nosey
Like a too-curious Cat, Maya has a habit of sticking her nose into business it shouldn't be in. She isn't much of a gossip, but that doesn't mean she doesn't like sifting through information and figuring things out. To a point, she even feels lonely or left out when Nick keeps things from her, and will often bug him into explaining. This can make her seem immature and sometimes get her in trouble, but it can also aid in investigations... usually unintentionally.

+/-; Sidekick "Syndrome"
Being the sidekick has a lot of perks; you get to help the hero with almost everything, support them, and get them to buy you burgers. However, you often also have a trope of terrible luck that the hero has to save you from. Maya is accused of murder multiple times, accused of being involved in murders multiple times, kidnapped, targeted, and, well, you get the picture. She's a strong, perky sidekick, but has to deal with the risks of being one nonetheless.

Abilities:
Mystic Maya is a psychic or medium, and all mediums are female. Using E.S.P., she would be-- in theory-- able to communicate with the dead. She used to be a little bad at it, but has been training recently and is able to channel in her last case. However, this requires the presence of spirits to channel, of course. While channelling a spirit, Maya, like any other medium, will find her spirit in a state of complete unconsciousness during which she cannot even dream. While this occurs, the spirit will borrow her body and use it. Two mediums cannot channel the same spirit at the same time, but a more experienced medium can steal a spirit from another medium or can prevent another from channeling by channeling the spirit more quickly.

According to Morgan Fey, Maya's aunt, an experienced psychic can control the spirit they channel. However, the validity of this statement has not been proven and may be challenged by the fact that Maya's mother, Misty Fey, is later involved in an altercation caused by a spirit by whom Misty was possessed. Morgan Fey also purports that there is a Spirit Severing technique; however, because this may have been fabricated by Morgan and Maya never claims to know the technique, it can be assumed she would be unable to use it.

In addition to channeling spirits, mediums can use spiritual energy to charge mystic artefacts such as the magatama, a gem that allows the one who possesses the magatama to see psyche locks. These locks are indicators that a person is hiding something behind a lie or is witholding information as a secret. These locks can only be broken with proper evidence, assuming those who have the locks on them admit to the evidence that is presented.

[CANON] Maya Fey || Reserve || 4 of 4

[personal profile] missleadingquestions 2013-06-05 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
First Person:

[Being on a train certainly isn't new for Maya. The seats, the sound of the tracks, the scenery rolling by... it's all very familiar. She'd taken the train back home to Kurain Village, and then again to the Detention Center and the offices...

...But, wait. She hadn't boarded the train that morning. She... hadn't boarded the train at all, had she? So why on earth is Maya Fey on a train? It certainly causes a bit of panic. She stands up, moving about the train, only to notice a metal watch fall out of her lap and clatter onto the floor. She picks it up, stands again, and hesitates-- until the train pulls to a stop, knocking her off her feet.]

O-oww... Wait-- where did-- where am I?

[She quickly investigates the train station just outside the now open door, and almost squeals when the train door shuts behind her-- and the train pulls off.]

Oh no. This... this isn't Kurain Village-- this isn't even near Nick's office! Where the heck am I?!

Third Person:
The train station was certainly a little different than what Maya had ever seen.

That was the first clue.

The second clue was probably the watch, or perhaps the first-- but she hadn't been paying much attention to what she'd seen first, anyway. She'd probably picked it up in a daze, out of habit-- and goodness, did her head hurt.

Her first thought had been to wonder if it was maybe the other world, but that thought had quickly fled away. Had it been the other world, surely she wouldn't be in pain, and surely Mia would have been there-- and besides, what would she have died from? And if she had died, well, then Nick--

Nick. He was her second thought. Where was he, and how was he getting on without her? If she'd been kidnapped (which, if she was thinking properly, would have seemed silly; where was anyone else who could have done so?), had he been hurt, too? She had no way to call him, no means of contact. There was only the watch in her pocket-- and when she flipped it open to check the time, there were buttons.

And posters. Posters on the walls-- of course! Those were clearly another clue, and she'd spent quite a while nosing about them before hurriedly trying to get the watch open. The pieces of the puzzle had come together-- not clues as to where she is, but clues as how to contact and communicate.

As soon as she could speak, she asked, "Hello? Hey, can anyone hear me? I need to find Nick-- Phoenix Wright! I need to get back home!"
