APPLICATIONS

✗ Applications are processed weekly, every weekend. The cut-off time for the submission of applications is 11:59PST on Saturday.
✗ Before applying, please read the FAQ and Rules pages.
✗ Please submit your application with the journal you plan to use if you have one made already. If not, another journal is fine, but we prefer your intended journal so it makes for an easier time in granting access to the mod journal and the contacts page.
✗ For very long applications, we would ask you to please separate them into various comments so that they will not take up too much of the page.

Background: Here is where we would like to see information about your character's history and their place within their canon. This can be written if you wish, or you can link to any wikis and relevant resources.
 
Abilities: Is your character an accomplished carpenter? Can they shoot laser beams from their eyes or travel through time? If they possess any abilities, learned or otherwise, they need to go in this section.
 
Network/Actionspam Sample: This is the format that will be used in rubycity_rp and must be in action form (brackets). Items with character at canon point: Tell us what your character has with them at the point you have pulled them from - this includes any animal companions.

Personality: This should be self explanatory. However, when discussing personality please include why they have particular personality traits, how this effects their lives and interactions. Please provide us with insight to your character and their behaviour, their likes, dislikes and fears, as well as your understanding of them. We would also like to see details of your character's strengths and weaknesses, which may include physical, psychological and emotional. The minimum will be three well-written paragraphs, but you should be able to write more.

World Information: Please go as in depth as you can about the world. There is no wiki or website for us to reference, and we need to know as much as we can about the place your character comes from so that we can understand the character when reviewing the application.

History: Your characters’ history in their world. Be sure to be detailed. This section should be a minimum of three paragraphs.

A note for CR AU applications
Ruby City does allow previous game history/CR to be brought over on a case by case basis. If you want to include this in your application please add additional sections for PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT and PREVIOUS GAME HISTORY beneath the Personality and Background/History sections.

Personality: The face Chika Funami presents to the world at large tends to have a smile on it. She's an outgoing, playful girl, best known around her school for running a table tennis club so laid-back and unorganized that it doesn't actually qualify for official club status and is instead listed as an "association." But that's just fine in Chika's books; as she puts it, her association is meant to be a place where people can just play around without having to worry about winning or losing.

It's not all pure-hearted egalitarian cheer with Chika, though; her sense of fun comes with a mischievous streak a mile wide. She's a girl who enjoys teasing and pushing boundaries. For example, she uses her nearsightedness as an excuse to invade the personal space of the series' protagonist, Sawako, clearly getting a laugh out of her reaction. At another point, when Sawako asks help her understand what it feels like to be in love, Chika drags her on a fake date, during which she tells Sawako they're going to a hotel--again, just to freak the poor girl out.

She's just as forward with Shiori, the girl she actually loves, though when it comes to Shiori she's more serious about it. She very casually kisses Shiori on the cheek in public, sits in her lap without any hesitation, and makes several unsuccessful attempts to get Shiori to return her affections.

Chika isn't all smiles and sunshine, though; she can be extremely possessive, and she has a scary temper. Back when she and Shiori were kids, Chika would terrorize anyone who gave the then-timid Shiori a hard time. Nowadays, it's Sawako who catches the brunt of her anger. As Chika sees it, Sawako is an interloper, getting between her and her love for her childhood friend. And as Sawako quickly finds out, Chika's mood can change with dizzying speed: she'll seem as cheerful as can be one moment, only to be glaring daggers the next, only to go back to smiling a second later! She makes something of a habit out of hiding her darker feelings behind her upbeat disposition.

Chika also doesn't take rejection especially well; when Shiori tells her that she's going to confess to Sawako, Chika's immediate reaction is that Shiori must hate her and want her out of her life. When Shiori says that that's not it, Chika then demands that Shiori go out with her. It's hard, at times, for her to find emotional middle ground--she can be an all-or-nothing sort of person.

But, for all of that, Chika is a resilient, caring girl--a big sisterly type. Underneath the teasing, underneath the temper, Chika harbors a deep, protective love for Shiori . . . and maybe kinda sorta cares about Sawako too, geez. She does actually make an attempt (a grudging, angry attempt, but still) to give Sawako genuine advice on how to deal with the confusing romantic situation she's found herself in, and in spite of the breakdown she has when Shiori makes her intentions clear, the two remain friends. (Actually, Chika doesn't entirely give up on pursuing Shiori, even though Sawako and Shiori are dating by the end of the series. She has maybe a liiiiiittle trouble letting go.)

Background: Chika Funami met Shiori Kasuga (later known as Shiori Hoshino, after her mother remarried) when they were both in elementary school. They attended the same table tennis class at a community center, and the slightly older Chika took the shy, picked-on Shiori under her wing. Shiori became something of an adopted little sister: Chika would frighten off the boys who bullied her, and since Shiori's mother was often held up at work, Shiori spent a lot of time at Chika's house. Chika took to calling Shiori "Haru-chan," after one of the characters in the name Kasuga.

But then Shiori's family moved away, and the two lost touch. They didn't meet again until Shiori entered the same high school Chika was attending, by which point Chika's feelings for Shiori--operating on the principle of absence making the heart grow fonder--had become full-on romantic love. Alas, Shiori already had her eyes on someone else: Sawako Hanai, another girl she had met through table tennis. The love triangle thus set in motion didn't exactly shake out in Chika's favor, but at the end of the series, she's shown as still cheerfully hitting on Shiori, relationship with Sawako be damned.

Abilities: Chika is an athletic girl; she's a good table tennis player, though not to the serious kickass level that Sawako and Shiori are. She's also really good at saying or doing things to get people riled up.

First Person: *Chika's first video message in Ruby City consists entirely of her scowling in frustration at the camera for a few seconds before the feed shuts off. A moment or two later, the feed starts up again, and this time she's smiling from ear to ear.*

Hello? Testing? Is anyone actually seeing this? I wasn't sure what was going up with this stupid wristwatch--if there's a manual or a help button or something that I missed, please tell me. No, wait, on second thought? Probably a little less important than getting out of here. I kind of have a lot on my plate back home, y'know, so if someone could just let me know when the next train out of here is, that would be fantastic.

*She pauses, the twitching of one eyebrow hinting at how she really feels at the moment.*

Because, you know, this isn't funny? One second I'm at school, it's lunchtime, Haru-chan is being adorable, everything's normal. Now the sun's going down, the creepiest train ever just dropped me off at a city I've never seen before in my life, and my cellphone isn't working. If I don't get a really good explanation soon--

*And here the smile evaporates into the most intense of all possible glares*

--I'm gonna lose patience.

Third Person: It had occurred to Chika that she might be dreaming. In fact, that was still her leading theory as to what this was all about. The unfamiliar landscape, the creepy feeling she'd had on the train, talking into a wristwatch, the fact that she'd inexplicably jumped from the middle of the day at school to twilight somewhere else--it had to be a dream, right? Nothing else made sense.

Unfortunately, the dream theory had one big problem, and that was her complete inability to wake up. She'd tried pinching herself until her whole upper arm was sore, even stubbed her toe really hard against a stone wall, all to no avail. So . . . maybe she was awake, and this place was real after all, even though that was obviously impossible. At the very least, it seemed as though she would have to treat it as real for the time being.

That was a terrifying concept, as it meant she was now stuck in a city she knew nothing about with no way to contact home. But Chika steeled herself against the panic welling up inside her, hands balling into fists. I'm gonna get out of here, she promised herself. Come on, Chika, power of love! You're not going to let some creepy city stand between you and seeing Haru-chan again, are you? With that thought to drive her on, Chika stomped off into the city. There didn't seem to be any outbound trains, but there had to be some other way out--there had to be, and she was going to find it.
