APPLICATIONS

APPLICATIONS

Applications are processed weekly, every weekend. The cut-off time for the submission of applications is 11:59PST on Saturday.
✗ Before applying, please read the FAQ and Rules pages.
✗ Please submit your application with the journal you plan to use if you have one made already. If not, another journal is fine, but we prefer your intended journal so it makes for an easier time in granting access to the mod journal and the contacts page.
✗ For very long applications, we would ask you to please separate them into various comments so that they will not take up too much of the page.
✗ Please title your application as { [CANON/CANON OC/OC]CHARACTER NAME || Series Title || reserve/no reserve || X of X } in the subect header
IMPORTANT: Our application form was edited on September 07, 2015. Please use the revised form.
✗ If you are looking for an example of what an application should be like, please refer to the application here for an example of a canon character application, and here for an original character application.

A note for CR AU applications
Ruby City does allow previous game history/CR to be brought over on a case by case basis. If you want to include this in your application please add additional sections for PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT and PREVIOUS GAME HISTORY beneath the Personality and Background/History sections.

In these additional sections we would like to see a brief outline of your character's previous game history and how it potentially impacted on and altered their canon personality.

Personality: Miles comes off as a ruthless and amoral man to some. When the player/audience first met him in Ace Attorney he was a cutthroat prosecutor who was reputed to do anything for a guilty plea. He was shown to request extra tests, even a second autopsy in an Ace Attorney case simply to prove a point and eliminate the defense’s case. He is very stubborn and rarely gives up on his case even when he is clearly losing to the defense. He has shown through his cases to have a very clear understanding of the case before trial starts [in this game’s universe, trials are conducted almost immediately after a crime has occurred] and he uses this to his advantage to prolong the trial and make himself survive a long time in court. The defense doesn’t win over him easily, it’s a long battle. Nearly every case in the series featuring him as the prosecution lasts the full three days allotted for a trial.

Previously noted, it’s apparent that Miles is very smart. In Trials and Tribulations he was noted as a ‘genius’ before he even debuted in court. This is due largely to his upbringing. Contrary to belief that Miles is an evil person, he was simply raised by an evil person masked as a good one. The story goes back to Miles’ childhood [the fourth case shown in Ace Attorney]. He was being raised by his father, Gregory Edgeworth, an astute defense attorney. His father revealed that a rival prosecutor, Manfred von Karma [a legendary flawless prosecutor in the game’s universe] was actually withholding and fabricating evidence to win all his trials. This sent Manfred into a rage and he murdered Gregory Edgeworth, taking his son Miles in as his own. Miles barely recalls the incident but it haunts him to present day. He is triggered into panic by earthquakes [which happened at the time of his father’s murder] throughout the series.

This is all revealed in the fourth case of Ace Attorney. Miles was previously illustrated as a character who wanted a guilty verdict and a perfect record, not necessarily justice. He was shown to withhold certain truths [including evidence, certain possible motives, and the identity of Dahlia Hawthorn all in Case 1 of Trials and Tribulations] for the sake of keeping the defense as ignorant as possible. It is clear he does his ‘homework’ on all his cases and has every possibility accounted for so he can easily withhold information to make his case more convincing. As such he is often shown grimacing or even growling when a witness throws him a curveball and ‘remembers’ something on the stand. However despite being raised by a corrupt lawyer to be a corrupt lawyer, he is still a truthful person deep down.

In the third case of Ace Attorney, the defendant was innocent but the testimony of the last witness, Dee Vasquez, was eluding the Defense. Miles should have simply taken his win and been happy but he objected and demanded the witness testify again, knowing he would lose because of this. He chose to lose in order to reveal the truth. This happens again with Case 5 of the same game in which a corrupted Chief of Police has covered up crimes for years and Miles worked along with the defense in court to question the witnesses in order to reveal the truth; again, sacrificing a win on his record for this.

Miles is very withdrawn, he is a man of very few words outside the courtroom. This is confirmed to be due to his upbringing, having to be ‘perfect in every way’ which leads to short precise statements, as well as his father’s murder. He blamed himself for that crime his whole life and seemed to be punishing himself in a way. He rarely ever said anything more than what was necessary as a professional. The end of Ace Attorney shows him yelling ‘whoooo’ for New Years after being misinformed about customs, and then walking away humiliated. He is a thorough man, but a wounded one, one that seeks truth above his own success.

First Person:

[He was more or less settled for the moment in a café. Anyone who wandered by him would see a clear scowl on his face. He was not at all happy about being as clueless as he was about this place. He couldn’t find a single lead other than this watch, which upon further inspection wasn’t a watch at all]

Interesting…

[he fiddled with it a while and decided he liked it. It went well with his suit honestly. It could only be improved if it were Steel Samurai themed but regardless, he had to focus on getting home. So first he had to know how far from home he was]

Ah, I believe I have hit record on this device… please… if anyone here is aware, can someone explain to me just where we are? I am unfamiliar with the location ‘Ruby City’. Are we in America?

[he hated sounding stupid but… well when you were lost you couldn’t save pride]

Third Person: Where is this place? He didn’t recognize it or the name. Ruby City… was this some sort of resort? He didn’t take any time off… strange. No actually this was rather disturbing. No Detective Gumshoe around, normally that would be a relief but the presence of the airheaded cop would actually be a relief right now. He was alone and on further inspection his items seemed to be untouched, including his wallet but that didn’t do much to comfort him. He had been taken to a place by someone. Someone who had no need for his identity or his money so that left his life and his talents. Or his value as a bargaining chip.

He wasn’t involved in any cases lately that could have logically turned into a kidnapping; in fact most of his cases were nearly finished at the moment. Perhaps he had merely gotten on the wrong train? But he was so sure he was in his car before… it was all rather fuzzy. He frowned as he came to understand how little he knew about how he got here; nothing. And for some reason his phone wasn’t working. He couldn’t even call Gumshoe to his side. As annoying as he was, he was doggedly loyal. He’d never let Miles go missing forever if he could help it. He could just imagine the man yelling ‘Hold it Pal!’ now.

This wasn’t the time to start thinking he was in danger. He likely was but panic didn’t suit this situation. Rather he should calmly reflect on what he knew and observe for some clues. He could solve his way out of this mystery in due time and exploration. He gathered his belongings and did his very best to appear unbothered as he casually strolled the streets looking for clues as to his whereabouts.
