Personality: This should be self explanatory. However, when discussing personality please include why they have particular personality traits, how this effects their lives and interactions. The minimum will be three well-written paragraphs, but you should be able to write more.

World Information: Please go as in depth as you can about the world. There is no wiki or website for us to reference, and we need to know as much as we can about the place your character comes from so that we can understand the character when reviewing the application.

Age: Apparent age: idk like 20? Actual age, definitely millennia old and it's pretty much impossible to put a timeframe on it because he literally is made of story and legend and time travels a lot.
Timeline: Taken from after issue #5 of Loki: Agent of Asgard
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: OK, so I recognize that Steve Rogers is a big meddler and public and Loki will also be pretty public, but here's the thing. I don't think it'd be difficult to arrange to have a third character present in any scene where they had to interact. Furthermore, I doubt that Loki will deliberately seek out tonnes of opportunities to hang out with Steve, especially by himself. There's a lot of bad blood between them, after all. I don't think it'll be too difficult to keep them from interacting on screen, and I can always handwave interaction if absolutely necessary as well.

Personality:

Loki is literally the Norse god of mischief. Let's break that down.

Norse god

Unlike the Marvel Cinematic Universe, in the 616 Marvel universe, the Asgardians are literally gods. They exist in and are shaped by myth and legend, and Loki is one of the classic villains of the Norse mythological pantheon. This is a fact that Loki is unable to escape.

But he tries.

Loki hates to be constrained by anything. He wants it all - all the power. All of it. He has died to escape the bonds of story, which had driven him away from his more light-hearted trickster origins onto a darker and purely evil path. He avoided the cycle of Ragnarok, and made a deal with Hela to ensure that his spirit wouldn't go to Hel after he died. Everything he does, wheels within wheels within wheels, are ultimately with the long-term goal of gaining more power for himself, and escaping anything that might smack of fate or control of others over him.

Nothing he does is for only a single purpose. He might seem to be fighting for a particular cause, but every time you think you've got a handle on what Loki really wants, it turns out that he's got three other things he's working towards as well.

He's a millennia-old god. He is capable of shaping the very fabric of reality. He's superior in every way to the mortals he hangs around with, and that's just the way it is. And he's also cute and charming as heck.

of Mischief

Debatably, though Loki continues to thirst for power, he no longer seeks deliberately to cause rampant destruction and murder. The old Loki has a body count probably in the literal millions, and never cared one bit. He had so much anger and resentment towards his adopted family that he fought to kill Thor and the other Asgardians over and over again, and many times he has nearly succeeded. In fact, recently he really did succeed - but at the last moment he sacrificed his own life to stop the total destruction of Asgard.

Of course, that was for his own purposes as well.

He was reincarnated and it turns out that his sacrifice was for the express purposes of escaping the fat that he had gotten locked into - to become the god of mischief again, instead of the god of evil. The new Loki seems to be trying to accomplish at least some good in the world and make up for what he's done. He feels guilt for what he has done in the past, and he doesn't actually want the world to end or anything. I mean, that's where he keeps all his stuff.

Also if he were all by himself, who would he show off to? That'd suck.

So Loki is struggling not to fall back into old patterns, and he's only half succeeding. He was reborn as a child, innocent and mischievous and really determined not to be old evil Loki. Just as he managed to mostly convince everyone that he really did honestly want to be good and change, the spirit of his old self devoured him and took over his body.

Welp. So much for that, right? He's evil Loki in cute Loki's body, right? We're all going to die. Also, hardly anybody knows this happened.

But it seems as though cute Loki has had a strong influence on his old self, and who knows? Maybe he really has changed. Old Loki destroyed New Loki, and was himself changed through that act. Form follows function - and to a god, perception, story, and myth are real. He's taken on the physical form of the New Loki, so possibly, just possibly, Loki didn't so much destroy the new version of himself, as merge with it.

So Loki is a trickster, he's a planner, he's supremely power hungry, he's fiendishly, terrifyingly intelligent and almost completely merciless in carrying out his plans. He's also lonely as heck, mistrusted by all and pretending that he doesn't care, and occasionally possibly, he is just a tiny bit heroic, though usually that's at least partially in service to some other selfish cause.

Most significantly in terms of change, the new(ish) Loki appears to be capable of forming emotional connections in a way he couldn't - or perhaps wouldn't - in the past. Loki seems to love his brother, seems to have actually cared for Leah for real, and seems to have overall left behind quite a bit of the anger that used to drive him to destruction and murder.

The only question is, how long will that last?

Background:

Here is a summary of all of Loki's exploits in his continuity. There have been major changes in the more recent past, as Loki attempts to shift his story onto another track. Though his canon goes back literal decades of comic history, Loki is now attempting to reinvent himself since his death, so the bits starting with "Trickster Reborn" are the most relevant. His past self continues to shape him, though, and is a constant tension he has to deal with.

This page is a specific summary of his 'Kid Loki' incarnation, who is technically now dead and gone, taken over by the spirit of old Loki. But Loki has stepped into that role, and appears to have a desire to change, as the young Loki did. Whether or not he actually can is an open question.

Abilities:

The historical Loki is a trickster god with the ability to literally shape space and time through magic. He is shown to travel back in time at a whim and change history, creating new stories and myths and laying the groundwork for his plans in the present and future. Magic is the art of telling a story so vividly that it becomes the truth, and so any story he can convince the world of, becomes the truth.

However, it seems that his current incarnation is choosing to be more constrained. In fact, he has stated that he doesn't want to use his magic much, because the more he uses it, the more that the power of legend dictates who he is. The old Loki became trapped by his use of magic, becoming not just the god of mischief, but the god of evil, because of the strong effect that story has on gods. This new, reborn Loki wants to change his fate - though it seems that he's destined to fail.

He's also stated that his younger, smaller body constrains his abilities. He doesn't have the strength yet to do as much as he once could.

As such, Loki relies far more on his innate more mundane abilities and various toys, than on pure world-warping sorcery. However, he does use his abilities to cast spells, such as teleporting around, affecting spells cast by Billy Kaplan, and casting glamours and illusions. His ability to do magic literally is unlimited except by his imagination and his power level.

Other than that...

He can shapeshift into anything - so long as it's Loki. (At one point, he tells Lorelei that he can't turn into a fly, because he's not a 'tiny fly' kind of person, but he can and does become a woman and a fox, just to show off. He's canonly turned into a magpie as well). Of course, using illusion magic he can look like anything he wants, but it's an illusion.

When it comes to equipment, he has a pair of seven-league boots that he can use to climb buildings or walk on tightropes. He has a coat that turns him invisible, a medallion of invisibility AND a 'belt of science' that can turn him invisible - he can be really, really, really invisible. He also carries his ancestral sword, which he seems to be able to pull from thin air.

He has excellent sleight of hands abilities as well. You know. Because he can.

I don't really know if this qualifies as a separate ability, either, but he also appears to be able to create and enforce magically-binding contracts, just like the devil. He switched a contract that Mephisto was trying to make, for a differently-worded one, and sealed it in blood, and it did work. I suspect that he wasn't just tricking Mephisto and piggybacking on his abilities here, since, yanno, Loki is also Satan and used to rule hell. So I'm going to say that he does have this ability in and of himself.

TBH who knows what else he can do. Probably a lot of things.

Oh yeah, and he's a world-class hacker. And he writes slash fanfiction on the internets.

First Person:

[Loki's been in the city for over a week now, with no one the wiser. He's been watching the watches, observing the residents, figuring out who's here, who's not, and who might be handy to get to know. Simultaneously possessing three separate ways to be invisible is pretty useful if you want to be unnoticed.

But it's about time for him to announce his presence to this little realm.

So he holds out his watch like he's taking a selfie and you get a good shot of mischievous green eyes, golden horned tiara thingy, and a cheerful smirk. Compared to what some people here might be expecting, Loki is looking younger - perhaps twenty years old - and a bit…One Direction-y. It might be the black fingernail polish that gives that impression.]

Well, hello there. For those who might not know me, I'm Loki of Asgard - god of mischief, general all around villain-turned-hero of Earth One.

I'm just recently arrived to your little berg, and I just have a couple of questions.

One, where - by Odin's left eye socket - can I get some decent breakfast meats around here?

Two, what's with the Obelisk at the centre of town? It's putting out some serious magical vibrations, but I can't seem to penetrate its shielding.

Three - and this one is for Captain Rogers and his Hulkish green friend - Can we talk? Like, actually talk, without the punching and Loki-in-pain parts that usually precede our chats? I'll be awaiting your response with bated breath. Just let me know the time and place, and I'll even show up virtually unarmed. I promise!
