APPLICATIONS

APPLICATIONS

Applications are processed weekly, every weekend. The cut-off time for the submission of applications is 11:59PST on Saturday.
✗ Before applying, please read the FAQ and Rules pages.
✗ Please submit your application with the journal you plan to use if you have one made already. If not, another journal is fine, but we prefer your intended journal so it makes for an easier time in granting access to the mod journal and the contacts page.
✗ For very long applications, we would ask you to please separate them into various comments so that they will not take up too much of the page.
✗ Please title your application as { [CANON/CANON OC/OC]CHARACTER NAME || Series Title || reserve/no reserve || X of X } in the subect header
IMPORTANT: Our application form was edited on September 07, 2015. Please use the revised form.
✗ If you are looking for an example of what an application should be like, please refer to the application here for an example of a canon character application, and here for an original character application.

A note for CR AU applications
Ruby City does allow previous game history/CR to be brought over on a case by case basis. If you want to include this in your application please add additional sections for PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT and PREVIOUS GAME HISTORY beneath the Personality and Background/History sections.

In these additional sections we would like to see a brief outline of your character's previous game history and how it potentially impacted on and altered their canon personality.

Re: [CANON] Kuja || Final Fantasy 9 || No Reserve || 2 of 3

Personality: Kuja considers himself a superior specimen, and it shows in his appearance. His silver hair is long, perfectly clean and well kept. His skin is pale, unmarred by scarring or other damage and his choice of clothing is often flamboyant and eye catching. While his appearance may be intimidating or off-putting to some, Kuja himself is affable, an appreciator of all things lovely and proof of his power. From his quotations of Lord Avon’s “I want to be your canary”, to the works of fine art in his desert palace fortress, he wants to be known as someone worthy of respect and adoration. While on the surface he appears pleasant enough, the cracks in this persona become apparent upon closer inspection.

The truth is, that Kuja is not at all what he seems.

Kuja worked as an arms dealer, supplying weapons for one of the most powerful kingdoms known on Gaia, Alexandria. For his weapons he created black mages, humanoid vessels powered by magic and capable of using great amounts of it as a weapon. As such he has very little concern for those who work for him and human life in general. If his planning is derailed or his actions otherwise halted, he will force his underlings to work harder while rapidly adapting his plan for success. Nothing is expendable in the pursuit of his goal and if he can inflict discomfort on his enemies - all the better.

His need to prove himself superior and awesome is a remnant of the knowledge of his creation. Kuja is a being called a genome, a creature similar to a homunculi or golem that lacks its own soul, created by a man called Garland. He started life, fully grown and gained sentience entirely by accident. The result is that Kuja is ultimately childish – because he did not grow into the person he is, Kuja is unable to empathize with others and lacks the emotional depth that most peers his age and adults have. This means for all of his intelligence and posturing, Kuja’s attempts at culture are quickly understood as shallow by those with a better sense of emotional development. As a result of his impatience Kuja’s plans tend to have horribly short-sighted goals and are only effective because of his adaptability. Kuja ultimately achieved victory over his creator through exploiting the one thing he considers a weakness, his lack of a soul.

Finally, while Kuja is unabashedly intelligent he has a marked tendency towards instability. When he does not get his way, he becomes openly cruel and dismissive. This is most noticeable when Kuja is informed that he is in fact entirely mortal. He immediately snaps and goes into what can only be called a narcissistic suicidal fugue state. In his mind, it would not be fair if the world would be allowed to exist without him and thus he takes action to destroy everything. At the end of everything, as he is spent of almost all of his energy, he manages some level of regret at his actions and is believed to save his brother’s life at the last possible moment.

Re: [CANON] Kuja || Final Fantasy 9 || No Reserve || 3 of 3

Abilities: Talented Mage – Kuja has the ability to use several powerful spells including one of the most destructive known – Ultima. In addition to this, he can summon Eidolons if he can find a summoner to draw them out of, summon beasts from the Mist on Gaia called Misodons and a silver dragon that he can summon.

Physical Resilience – Kuja is shown able to withstand a great amount of damage with little complication, having taken the full brunt of a dragon’s attack with little more than a scratched forehead. It takes him expending the full amount of his energy to show any sign of physical exhaustion and he still retains the ability to teleport several people away from his location using magic.

Well-Cultured – Well known as a nobleman, Kuja has a great appreciation of art and has a great knowledge of various plays, operas and works of fine art.

Soulless – Kuja lacks a soul of his own and as result is not easily affected by things that require a great amount of emotional intensity to work. He was only able to use the ability of Trance after absorbing the hundreds of souls aboard the Invincible and it seems he only developed a conscience after this point.

First Person: [The frame of the video is filled with the sight of fingers as it turns quickly for a moment. It stops on the face of a young man, beautiful and weary. His silvery hair is almost cascading towards the viewer, as if he were leaning over it. After a moment, he breathes a heavy sigh.]

I don’t know where this is, but I heavily suspect Zidane and his troop will be after me yet. If anyone would be willing to give me information, I’m sure we could work something out.

[Kuja smiles winningly, drawing a finger lazily along the rim of the watch face. His melodious voice quiets, speaking more to himself than whoever is watching.]

Alas, poor canary, you cannot spread your wings just yet…

[The feed shuts off as the watch is closed with a sense of finality.]

Third Person: The last thing Kuja remembered was a flash of brilliant light, so in his mind, it was appropriate to be greeted by an abundance of it.

He cracked open an eye to peek at his surroundings, before sitting up and opening his eyes fully. It appeared that by all rights, he had been unconscious on the floor of a train car. Pursing his lips for a moment, Kuja leaned on the seat next to him to stand. If he were honest, he still felt weary from all the energy he spent at the Iifa Tree and considering his state upon waking, he had to guess he’d been brought here.

A cursory check of his body, hair included, revealed nothing save for a few smudges of dirt. This was entirely logical as the last thing he remembered was mentally preparing for the onslaught of an insane soul-refining tree in the midst of its death throes. Despite feeling fine, Kuja simply could not shake his discomfort. Looking at his reflection, he fixed a stray hair, lost in the memory of the last conversation with Zidane and a single thought surged forward.

I don’t deserve to live after what I’ve done.

Kuja frowned at his reflection, the idea of ‘deserving life’ turning his stomach. The whole reason why he fought, why he destroyed, why he existed - served to dispel such a foolish notion. He shook his head once, realizing for the first time that the train was not moving. Smirking ruefully to himself, Kuja straightened his posture and strode smoothly onto the platform.
