APPLICATIONS

✗ Applications are processed weekly, every weekend. The cut-off time for the submission of applications is 11:59PST on Saturday.
✗ Before applying, please read the FAQ and Rules pages.
✗ Please submit your application with the journal you plan to use if you have one made already. If not, another journal is fine, but we prefer your intended journal so it makes for an easier time in granting access to the mod journal and the contacts page.
✗ For very long applications, we would ask you to please separate them into various comments so that they will not take up too much of the page.

Please provide us with insight to your character and their behaviour, their likes, dislikes and fears, as well as your understanding of them. Background: Here is where we would like to see information about your character's history and their place within their canon. This can be written if you wish, or you can link to any wikis and relevant resources.
 
Abilities: Is your character an accomplished carpenter? Can they shoot laser beams from their eyes or travel through time? If they possess any abilities, learned or otherwise, they need to go in this section.
 
Network/Actionspam Sample: This is the format that will be used in rubycity_rp and must be in action form (brackets). We are looking for a minimum of 6 to 10 lines that give us an idea of how your character speaks/acts. This sample may be linked, either from a musebox, different game or our test drive, provided that the linked example was written within the last six months.
 
Prose Log Sample: This is the format that will be used in rubycity_logs and must be a minimum length of 250 words. This sample must be in prose format (paragraphs, no brackets) and should show character reactions/introspection. It does not need to be in game's setting, but it must demonstrate your character as you are apping them. This sample may be linked, either from a musebox, different game or our test drive, provided that the linked example was written within the last six months.

Appearance: The sorts of things included in this section should be the character’s height, build, clothing style, hair, accessories. As well as their general posture and mannerisms as well, like quirks or vocal tics.
Chosen PB: First come, first serve. Please check the taken PB page. You are also welcome to use your own or commissioned art, or icons that do not depict your characters face but facets of their personality as well.
Items with character at canon point: Tell us what your character has with them at the point you have pulled them from - this includes any animal companions.

Personality: This should be self explanatory. However, when discussing personality please include why they have particular personality traits, how this effects their lives and interactions. Please provide us with insight to your character and their behaviour, their likes, dislikes and fears, as well as your understanding of them. We would also like to see details of your character's strengths and weaknesses, which may include physical, psychological and emotional. The minimum will be three well-written paragraphs, but you should be able to write more.

World Information: Please go as in depth as you can about the world. There is no wiki or website for us to reference, and we need to know as much as we can about the place your character comes from so that we can understand the character when reviewing the application.

History: Your characters’ history in their world. Be sure to be detailed. This section should be a minimum of three paragraphs.

A note for CR AU applications
Ruby City does allow previous game history/CR to be brought over on a case by case basis. If you want to include this in your application please add additional sections for PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT and PREVIOUS GAME HISTORY beneath the Personality and Background/History sections.

In these additional sections we would like to see a brief outline of your character's previous game history and how it potentially impacted on and altered their canon personality.

Short version:
Bae lost his mother when he was young and grew up as the son of the coward of the town, the laughingstock Rumplestiltskin. While Bae wished to have friends who were willing to play with him, he was, for the most part, content to be with his Papa. They were each other’s world.

Then, when they got word that the conscription age for the Ogre Wars had lowered to 14, and Bae was almost to that threshold, Rumple took his son away in the night, tried to Flee. Bae said that if the law said he had to fight, he could fight. He didn’t mean the words to be taken as a dig at his beloved papa, but since that day, looking back, he’s always wondered if he had wounded his father more than anyone else, if that sentence was what had sealed his fate and made him determined to take the powers of the Dark One.

For the old beggar told them that the dark one’s dagger was the only way Bae would be safe. And Papa believed him. They stole the dagger and Bae was sent home. The soldiers tried to take him, but Papa showed up and stopped them. But… it was terrifying, and it wasn’t at all like Papa. It was the beginning of the end, in a lot of ways.

The time after that was spent with Bae all but a prisoner inside the safety of his father’s well-meaning darkness. If he thought he had few friends before, now he had none. But he was no longer enough for his father. He spent much time alone and when his Papa was around, they tended to argue more than anything else.

Finally, after Bae could no longer handle watching his father kill people in the name of protecting him, he made a wish to the blue fairy and received a bean that would open a portal to a world without magic. A world where he and his father could start again. No more Dark One. No more people who remembered and feared them. No more killing. A fresh start.

Papa agreed, but then kept trying to convince Baelfire that this… this was not the way. But a promise was a promise, and Bae was determined to have their fresh start, he wanted his Papa back; more than anything.

The portal opened and Rumple… broke his word. They went tumbling towards the portal, but Bae’s father braced himself against the ground, anchored by the dagger, holding it in one hand, the other hand holding Baelfire. Bae tried to pull them both into the vortex, Rumple tried to pull them both out.

In the end the final choice was Rumplestiltskin’s. They were at a stalemate. They could both go… or he could choose magic over Bae. He let go…. Of his son. The portal closed, and Bae…

Abilities: Nothing really to report on this front. Bae is the son of Gold/ The Dark One/Rumpelstiltskin, but was born more than a decade before the powers came into play, so it wasn’t like there was anything magical to inherit. He’s helped his papa some with basic chores and was learning some of the ways of wool, before the dagger, before… everything. Given the low tech in his world, he probably would seem remedial compared to his peers in the city. But he is bright, and he is clever. He can learn. And judging from the canon past the point I brought him, he seems dexterous and nimble enough to survive as a crook and a grifter. So while Bae cannot pick locks or hotwire a car, he has the manual dexterity and patience to learn skills of similar difficulty.

But… today was his first day alone since he got here… and it reminded him too much of when his father would vanish, as the Dark One… and reappear with some baubles that he thought that Bae would want; as if Bae would want them more than he wanted his Papa with him. The loneliness was eating him with worry for his father. So… he risked this…to ask Henry what he hadn’t quite dared ask in front of his father.]

“Is this magic?” He asked. A simple question that he tried to send to Henry and Henry alone.

This is Bae’s test drive thread, two concurrent tests of possible introductions for him into the city, 90 comments total.

At this time we are requesting a revision of the first person sample. Particularly, we noticed that it was written in past-tense, and also contained a shift to prose which does not fall in line with the standard of what we are looking for. We ask that you either edit the sample to remove the discrepancy (the usage of quotes and unbracketed actions) as well as shift the tense to present. You are correct; we are looking for third person present. We’d just like to see that the tense is correctly applied.

Feel free to submit your revisions at any time before the next app round, and they will be processed ASAP!

(I feel really stupid messing up the tense like that, especially after what I said about the person shift. I apologize. Here is a revised version of that post.)
