APPLICATIONS

APPLICATIONS

Applications are processed weekly, every weekend. The cut-off time for the submission of applications is 11:59PST on Saturday.
✗ Before applying, please read the FAQ and Rules pages.
✗ Please submit your application with the journal you plan to use if you have one made already. If not, another journal is fine, but we prefer your intended journal so it makes for an easier time in granting access to the mod journal and the contacts page.
✗ For very long applications, we would ask you to please separate them into various comments so that they will not take up too much of the page.
✗ Please title your application as { [CANON/CANON OC/OC]CHARACTER NAME || Series Title || reserve/no reserve || X of X } in the subect header
IMPORTANT: Our application form was edited on September 07, 2015. Please use the revised form.
✗ If you are looking for an example of what an application should be like, please refer to the application here for an example of a canon character application, and here for an original character application.

A note for CR AU applications
Ruby City does allow previous game history/CR to be brought over on a case by case basis. If you want to include this in your application please add additional sections for PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT and PREVIOUS GAME HISTORY beneath the Personality and Background/History sections.

In these additional sections we would like to see a brief outline of your character's previous game history and how it potentially impacted on and altered their canon personality.

CHARACTER
Name: Mako
Canon: Legend of Korra
Timeline: After the season finale.
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: N/A

Personality: After the death of his parents, and since he was the oldest, Mako's duties were to take care of both himself and his brother. Thus, he matured faster than his sibling, and tends to have a more serious outlook on situations. When Bolin brought Korra into the pro-bending arena, and offered to show her some moves, he was visibly displeased. It was getting late and they had another match the day after - which called for lots of rest. Fooling around with some crazy fan (who he later realized was not a "fangirl" at all, but rather the Avatar) was the last thing on his mind. Mako is responsible, and has his priorities set straight: the pro-bending tournament, and his brother.

In order to bend lightning, the user is required to be able to control their emotions, and have a steady mind. Likewise, Mako is able to maintain a firm grasp on his emotions, which explains the indifferent demeanor he carries (for example, when Korra tried to "impress" him when she was earthbending with Bolin, he simply walked off and announced he was heading to bed.) On the other hand, having lived on the streets enabled him to develop a wrathful and near merciless attitude towards those who have harmed/may have harmed loved ones. More specifically, he was seen threatening an Equalist Chi-blocker when asking about Korra, during her kidnapping. Those days he spent doing odd jobs for the Triple Threat Triad are memories he would rather forget, and isn't partiularly proud of it. Mako found it difficult to admit to Korra that he and Bolin had worked for them in their younger days. What he did, however, was what he needed to do in order to take care of his brother and himself, and that is one thing he takes a lot of pride in.

Mako is also, pretty much, your average teenage boy. He has romantic issues (more like a soap opera, honestly) and finds trouble finding with whom his feelings lie more strongly with: Asami, or Korra. He is sensible enough to know that dating Korra would be a bad idea, because they are teammates and if anything were to happen it would ruin their performance. Mako finds himself very jealous when he sees Korra having a good time with Bolin, and even whilst he is embracing Asami, he can't help but watch Korra leave with his younger brother. As the story progresses, he admits to caring deeply for Asami, but his feelings for Korra gradually become stronger than those he presented towards Asami. During Korra’s kidnapping, Mako had more or less lost it when hearing that she had presumably been kidnapped by Amon (which we later find out was a false lead, and that the Avatar was actually with a crazy bloodbender - even worse). It is during this time that he slowly begins to come to terms with the fact that his affections for Korra are more passionate than the ones he previously had for Asami.

Other than all that love drama, Mako does enjoy those he considers very close - which are not many - most likely stemming from the fact that he trusted only his brother, back when they had lived on the poorer side of town. He is a bit reserved, but once you become part of his circle of friends, Mako will gradually ease up and become very relaxed around you. He's really just a guy that's looking out for the most important people in his life, and if he considers you one of them, you have a very loyal friend.

First Person:

What is this?

[Mako frowns, holding the pocket watch firmly in his hand. He fiddles around with it, pressing the buttons at its side hastily.]

This definitely isn't mine - or something made by Future Industries...

[He mumbles to himself for another second or two before the devices switches on, and the camera focuses in on him. His eyebrows raise, and he looks at the image, clearing his throat hesitantly.]

I guess this is some sort of communication device? But, uh, hey there... whoever you are.

[There is a pause and he looks around at his surroundings once more before facing the communicator.]

Listen, if you could help me out here, that would be really great, because I don't exactly have the slightest clue where I am right now.

[Mako takes a minute to fumble with the buttons again, and the feed cuts out as he accidentally switches it off.]

Third Person:

A sharp turn on the tracks caused the train to lean towards the right, which, in turn, allowed Mako's face to become acquainted with the cold window. He let out a startled cry, his head jerking away from the glass. Mako yawned, rubbing his left eye with the back of his hand. One of the airbender kids was probably playing tricks on him. If anything, his euons were on the bald one. "Alright Meelo, that's enough," he announced, waving his hand at the air. Mako opened his eyes, an amused grin plastered on his lips. Instead of being greeted with a giggling toddler, he was, instead, slapped in the face with unfamiliar surroundings. His grin fell, his features taking over a more puzzled look. "Uh."

No airbending brat there, just a bunch of people who were watching him with curious (and almost pitiful) stares. He cleared his throat and turned his head back towards the window, avoiding the eyes of the other passengers.

Mako jolted out from his seat, mumbling a small apology to the passenger seated next to him. He brushed himself off, and grabbed a pole to keep himself balanced as he exited. He exited the carriage, waiting outside of the small hallway where the bathroom was located. Mako ran a hand through his hair, blowing an impatient breath of air from his lips.

"Alright, Mako, let's just retrace our steps." Yeah, good plan - except that there were no steps to retrace. He should be back at Air Temple Island - sleeping peacefully in bed. Unfortunately for him, his memory seemed to stop just when he fell into a state of slumber - which would have been one of the best ones he had ever taken, if he had not awoken with no knowledge of where he was.

Moments after, the train began to decrease in speed, which only meant that the destination was just up ahead. He allowed himself to be ushered out of the locomotive, and made note to take a good look at each passenger's face. All the hustle and bustle died out as the crowd exited the platform, leaving a confused Mako alone with his thoughts. There was no use in standing there all by himself. He walked forward, making his way into what he would later find out was called Ruby City. The surrounding posters in the lobby of the station were not as helpful as he hoped they were, and neither was the small gift he found in his pocket.
