APPLICATIONS

APPLICATIONS

Applications are processed weekly, every weekend. The cut-off time for the submission of applications is 11:59PST on Saturday.
✗ Before applying, please read the FAQ and Rules pages.
✗ Please submit your application with the journal you plan to use if you have one made already. If not, another journal is fine, but we prefer your intended journal so it makes for an easier time in granting access to the mod journal and the contacts page.
✗ For very long applications, we would ask you to please separate them into various comments so that they will not take up too much of the page.
✗ Please title your application as { [CANON/CANON OC/OC]CHARACTER NAME || Series Title || reserve/no reserve || X of X } in the subect header
IMPORTANT: Our application form was edited on September 07, 2015. Please use the revised form.
✗ If you are looking for an example of what an application should be like, please refer to the application here for an example of a canon character application, and here for an original character application.

A note for CR AU applications
Ruby City does allow previous game history/CR to be brought over on a case by case basis. If you want to include this in your application please add additional sections for PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT and PREVIOUS GAME HISTORY beneath the Personality and Background/History sections.

In these additional sections we would like to see a brief outline of your character's previous game history and how it potentially impacted on and altered their canon personality.

CHARACTER
Name: Celty Sturluson
Canon: Durarara!
Timeline: Returning with her memory of her previous visit intact, but she's now gotten to the end of the anime and has the gang war arc behind her. The novels continue the story from there.
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: N/A

Personality: There is an urban legend in Tokyo's district of Ikebukuro known as the "Black Rider". A black motorcycle that goes without lights on and makes odd noises, ridden by someone dressed in black, save for their yellow helmet. Some even refer to this legend as the "Headless Rider", claiming that the person riding the motorcycle is not human.

The truth of the matter is that this is all absolutely true. Celty is a Dullahan who has journeyed over from Ireland in search of her missing head. The motorcycle is actually her horse Shooter, disguised via her powers. In the rare occasions where it takes horse form, it has no head as well (this is more thematic, while hers has gone missing entirely). She has lost her memories of her time before losing her head, not knowing where it is, but having a vague sense of where it may be.

Since coming to Ikebukuro and making various connections there, she has taken on the roll of a courier and has acclimated well to her surroundings. She is also a member of a street gang known as The Dollars. Unable to communicate vocally, she does so by typing messages into her phone and showing it to people. The phone itself is a gift of the scientist whom she lives with, and considers it a treasured possession.

She spends a good deal of time online and in chat rooms. She enjoys watching scary movies and alien autopsy documentaries, but usually winds up scaring herself instead. The only thing she fears more than aliens are traffic cops. She also has a concern that splits her main reason for being in Ikebukuro: On the one hand she wants to get her head back, for fear that she may lose herself without it as she is having trouble remembering what it looked like, but at the same time is not sure who she may become if she got it back and had her memories restored.

PART 2

First Person: [Coming to on the train was one of the more disturbing moments of her brief remembrance. She had been on a courier run....had she? A quick patting down found her phone in her pocket which was reassuring, but that was quickly lost when she couldn't get a message through to Shinra or anyone else. There was nothing else on or around her that seemed to imply any sort of job she had been on.]

!!

[Standing up, she quickly moved through the train car towards the back, following the sensation of the presence of her horse. She found the motorcycle in the storage car, looking similarly distressed. Patting it and comforting it, she guided it off the train and looked around. Wherever this was, it wasn't Ikebukuro.]

Third Person: Celty guided her horse through the streets of this new city, urging it on silently as she took in her surroundings. The motorcycle rolled on, only making brief whinnies that echoed her own discomfort at the sudden change, but as they rolled on through the night they didn't seem to attract too much attention.

What could it have been that brought her here? Anesthetic had proven to be ineffective on her, so it couldn't have been humans. Maybe she'd finally run into another of her own kind? Perhaps this was a clue to where her head had gone...

'...Oh no...it's aliens! It has to be aliens! Aliens would be the most likely to kidnap me, right? Little green men preparing to perform experiments!'

The darkness and shadow around her coalesced into a scythe and she looked around frantically, holding it tight in self defense. After a few moments of nothing leaping out at her, Celty finally got herself to calm down again. She forced herself to put the idea of alien invaders from her mind as she continued searching for some clue of what had happened.

She perked up as she finally found someone else roaming the street and pulled her bike to a stop next to them. Typing quickly into her phone, she then held it out to show them the glowing screen. {Excuse me. Where is this?}

Personality Continued, from previous application Revision

The interesting thing about Celty is that she carries no revulsion or rejection to being a monster. It's what she is and she's fine with it. However, at the same time she has cultivated friendships with the humans around her and in an early episode of the second half of the series she foregoes hunting down a lead for where her head is in favor of helping out some friends in need (one of whom is being attacked, and another who just needs someone to talk to). She even considers herself at the same level or even below others, referring to Shizuo as being stronger than her and finding his strength thrilling, or later on assuring him that he doesn't need to fight to protect her because she's concerned about his own well being.

She's become an urban legend, but she doesn't really care about the status, nor does she seem to care about hiding what she is. She shows up in public regularly, and often takes her helmet off when asked, she sees no big deal on the matter. She simply is herself.
thanks to her living with Shinra and his devotion to her, she's getting to the point where she doesn't believe she needs her head to validate her existence, though she'd still like it back for the sake of security (who knows what would happen if it was destroyed).

She's a thoroughly modern dullahan, a fan of movies and chatting on the internet. She has a fascination and fear of aliens, often chalking up the stranger occurrences to their handiwork first before calming down (see the Saika/Slasher case). The only thing she fears more than aliens are Ikebukuro's more aggressive traffic cops.

She poses as a man in the online chat, but she's a terrible liar (both online and off), and her chat partners know she's a girl and are just polite about it. Whether they know who she really is depends on the other character (all the chat room sequences involve characters who know eachother offline but may not know their aliases. Only Izaya is the one who surely knows who everyone is).

Her phone is her main source of expression, and she cherishes it as a gift from Shinra. Beyond that, she tends to be very expressive with body language, even going so far as to go through the physical action of laughing in one episode even though there is no sound to go with it. If her helmet is off, the shadowy "smoke" that emerges from her neck is very expressive as well, puffing up thicker when she's angry or embarassed.

She's not very good at video games or cooking, and when she gets frustrated with something she tends to wrap it up in an impenetrable orb of shadow.
