APPLICATIONS

Applications are processed weekly, every weekend. The cut-off time for the submission of applications is 11:59PST on Saturday.
✗ Before applying, please read the FAQ and Rules pages.
✗ Please submit your application with the journal you plan to use if you have one made already. If not, another journal is fine, but we prefer your intended journal so it makes for an easier time in granting access to the mod journal and the contacts page.
✗ For very long applications, we would ask you to please separate them into various comments so that they will not take up too much of the page.
✗ Please title your application as { [CANON/CANON OC/OC]CHARACTER NAME || Series Title || reserve/no reserve || X of X } in the subect header
IMPORTANT: Our application form was edited on September 07, 2015. Please use the revised form.
✗ If you are looking for an example of what an application should be like, please refer to the application here for an example of a canon character application, and here for an original character application.

A note for CR AU applications
Ruby City does allow previous game history/CR to be brought over on a case by case basis. If you want to include this in your application please add additional sections for PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT and PREVIOUS GAME HISTORY beneath the Personality and Background/History sections.

In these additional sections we would like to see a brief outline of your character's previous game history and how it potentially impacted on and altered their canon personality.

CHARACTER:
Name: Archie Hopper
Canon: Once upon a Time
Timeline: The end of season 2 episode 10, "The Cricket Game" (after his "death" but before the twist at the end of the episode)
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: N/A

Personality:
Archie Hopper is, on the surface, a pretty composed middle aged man. Working as a therapist in Storybrook, his temprement is suited to that. It's assumed he has several clients at his practice, but his interactions as a threapist have only been shown with Henry and Regina, and during both sessions he's demonstrated patience and understanding of how to give professional suggestions to both of them.

He's very observant, as demonstrated when he pointed out that Henry was lying about being on a field trip, but his observations can cloud his judgment. He can be quick to act when someone is in danger ("That still small voice", when he goes into the mine to find Henry) which can lead to disregarding his own safety; which shows his compassion for others. This may be due to his past as Jiminy Cricket but this is just speculation on my part.

For his good qualities, he's still human and not above being manipulated. Regina Mills has shown herself able to manipulate him into acting in contrast to what he feels is better for Henry's therapy sessions, and in the same chord, to go against his conscience. If circumstances were met, he could be manipulated to a point to tune out his conscience, though I think there would be at least one (if not several) stop gaps before it got too far. (For example, he could be convinced to tell Henry to stop believing his ideas about the fairy tale land, but I can't see him being manipulated to do something extreme like going along with an angry mob to the point of violence. (s2, "We are Both"). Once he's realized how he'd been acting, he offered Regina his help to cope with the effects of the curse being lifted. He also seems a little too trusting of people he knows, which comes back to bite him hard in s2's "The Cricket Game" at his apparent "murder".

First person:

[The last he rembers is Regina coming to his office in the middle of the night and going to get a file. His throat sealing closed, Pongo's barking ringing in his ears and-

His eyes open, blinking rapidly.] "What on..?"

[His body catching up to his mind, Archie sits up very slowly and reaches for his throat. He grimaces, inhales sharply, and looks around as the train heads for its destination. As it pulls into the station and the door slides open, he shakily climbs to his feet. Feeling a shove at his back, he staggers for the door and onto the platform.]

"Hello..? Hello! Is anyone-?"

[His hand moves to his jacket pocket, his brows creasing at an unfamiliar weight. Pulling out a silver pocket watch, he opens it with a soft,] "Well. I know this isn't mine.."

[Checking it for the time and date, he rubs at his neck again.] "All right.. I can't say I've seen this kind before, but it looks pretty basic."

[Unaware that he's broadcasting anything, the feed goes dark as he closes the top and slips it back into his pocket for the time being.] "Where on Earth am I?"

Third person:
It was, to put it very mildly, a new experience. Not riding on a train- he wasn't a stranger to public transport (though his bicycle probably didn't count as such to everyone), but he was a stranger to waking up in an unknown place.

He looked around the train, quietly sorting everything he could remember up to the point of his blackout. Regina coming to the office and asking for a file, and Pongo's sudden rush of barking before it grew difficult to breathe. His hands slowly traced around his neck, wincing at the sting of pain. Catching his reflection in the nearest window, he could see faint red marks.

Exhaling slowly, he watched the scenery as it moved past, fiddling with his jacket and then his glasses. Producing a handkerchief, the lenses were cleaned up and their position on his nose adjusted.

They'd gone askew. He remembered that as well.

The train was pristine- nearly sterile in how clean it was, if not a little old fashioned in some regards. As it pulled into a stop and the doors slid open with a chime, Archie felt the compulsion to stand, as if he had needles being poked in his legs.

He stood, looking around in case there were other passengers. Perhaps someone who could explain how he ended up where he currently found himself.

The train, in addition to its pristine looks, was also empty. "A ghost train..?" he thought, looking back towards the windows.

There was the sudden feel of his shoulders being grabbed as he was shoved forward. Stumbling and nearly toppling to the ground as he caught his bearings, he staggered from the train. He landed onto the platform, caught his breath and turned in time to see the doors slide shut as the train pulled away.

"Pretty impatient for a train, I'd say." the joke came to his mind suddenly, and in spite of how weird everything was and how many things were bouncing in his head; Archie gave a chuckle.

He checked himself over, blinking as his hand hit a new shape in his coat pocket. Pulling out a watch on a chain, he examined it for a minute before easing the lid open.

"..Well, I know this isn't mine."

(New parts will be in italics) Archie Hopper is, on the surface, a pretty composed middle aged man. Working as a therapist in Storybrook, his temprement is suited to that. This may be due to his past as Jiminy Cricket but this is just speculation on my part.

Archie has a compassionate frankness in the episode "An Apple Red as Blood", during his conversation with Emma. He side-steps the choice of agreeing or disagreeing with her regarding Henry's situation, but points out what she may or may not have seen: That her actions were hurting Henry.

He's shown being protective of both his patients and very slightly of his routine in the episode "The Doctor" when Doctor Whale enters his office during his session with Regina, Archie quickly orders him to leave. I think this would extend easily to the rest of his clients, but also to his friends.

He's also shown to be an animal lover (or at least a dog person) with his pet dog, Pongo, who accompanies him around the town and is well cared for.

(New parts will be in italics) For his good qualities, he's still human and not above being manipulated, or above acting on his emotions. When he was a child in fairtyale land, he was shown to have developed coping skills early on at being told his opinion on their con games didn't matter, but his limit was reached by the time he went to Rumplestiltskin for a potion to deal with the situation and to be free.

When his plan backfires due to his parents actions of swapping the potion with rain water, he's racked with guilt but choses to run instead of explain what happened. He meets the Blue Fairy and is given the option of being freed from his parents to help the boy (Gepetto) for himself. (Fairytale flashbacks in "That still small voice") This, to me, shows his ability to be self-aware of mistakes and recognize when to correct things. His wanting to help (even if born from guilt) more than likely lead his Storybrooke version to become a therapist.

In his current profession, Regina Mills has shown herself able to manipulate him into acting in contrast to what he feels is better for Henry's therapy sessions, and in the same chord, to go against his conscience. If circumstances were met, he could be manipulated to a point to tune out his conscience, though I think there would be at least one (if not several) stop gaps before it got too far.
