APPLICATIONS
✗ Applications are processed weekly, every weekend. The cut-off time for the submission of applications is 11:59PST on Saturday.
✗ Before applying, please read the FAQ and Rules pages.
✗ Please submit your application with the journal you plan to use if you have one made already. If not, another journal is fine, but we prefer your intended journal so it makes for an easier time in granting access to the mod journal and the contacts page.
✗ For very long applications, we would ask you to please separate them into various comments so that they will not take up too much of the page.
✗ Please title your application as { [CANON/CANON OC/OC]CHARACTER NAME || Series Title || reserve/no reserve || X of X } in the subect header
✗ IMPORTANT: Our application form was edited on September 07, 2015. Please use the revised form.
✗ If you are looking for an example of what an application should be like, please refer to the application here for an example of a canon character application, and here for an original character application.

A note for CR AU applications
Ruby City does allow previous game history/CR to be brought over on a case by case basis. If you want to include this in your application please add additional sections for PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT and PREVIOUS GAME HISTORY beneath the Personality and Background/History sections.
In these additional sections we would like to see a brief outline of your character's previous game history and how it potentially impacted on and altered their canon personality.
Waver Velvet | Fate/Zero | Reserved
Name: Meg
Personal Journal:
E-mail: shoelesswanderer[at]gmail[dotcom]
AIM/MSN/etc: Megkips
CHARACTER
Name: Waver Velvet, Lord El-Melloi II
Canon: Fate/zero
Timeline: Post-destruction of the Holy Grail, twenty years after the events of Fate/zero
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: N/A
Personality: At the start of Fate/zero, Waver Velvet is every bratty half pint stereotype condensed into the body of a British magus who wants respect and recognition for his talent, despite his low blood line in terms of actual magic ability. This desire, coupled with public humiliation from one of his professors, drives Waver to enter the the Fourth Holy Grail War, in the hopes that if he wins the Grail, he will be given the respect he thinks that he deserves.
Summoning up Alexander the Great as a familiar (having stolen a summoning artefact from the same professor who humiliated him), Waver matures, going from child to adult in a matter of days, learning whose respect matters in the end as well. This newfound understanding allows Waver to find some sort of both the world of magi that he lives in and where he stands in it. It also allows him to finish his training at Clock Tower, obtain the title of Lord El-Melloi II from the prestigious Archibald family, and go on to become a professor in the very same institution that refused to give him respect in his youth. His tenure at Clock Tower also permits him to mentor and influence a vast number of magi, make alliances, and generally become well known and respected, all through careful maneuvering. It is also during his time as professor that he comes to meet Rin Tohsaka, who he takes apart the Holy Grail with around the year 2016, ending the Grail War cycle for good.
Waver remains dissatisfied with where he is in life, as he has come to learn the fame and respect he wanted in his youth was not really what he wanted at all. The respect that he has earned from his time as a professor - both as a researcher and as an instructor with the ability to see the hidden talents of other magi and train it - holds little meaning to him, as he has not progressed to a point where he is content with his own skills. He is on a constant quest of self improvement, and he is his harshest critic.
Much of Waver’s life has been defined by playing political games in order to ensure his own survival, as magi are notorious for using each other to their own advantage. It has made him into something of a strategist, and Waver definitely has preferences for going about accomplishing his goals. He usually tries to gather as much information possible so that he can predict all possible outcomes before making a move, although he is not above playing people off of each other or manipulating others to get what he wants. For Waver, manipulation and use of knowledge as currency is simply as part of mage culture, brought upon by centuries of build up.
It is no surprise then that thanks to the nature of the culture he grew up in, Waver keeps few allies and even fewer friends. He is happiest and the most at peace with himself in his own company.
Waver vocally supports the questioning of tradition and indeed, has future plans to raise questions about equality within his own community. His accomplishments thus far - surviving the grail war, becoming a lord, and being able to take apart the grail, in addition to his status as a professor and researcher (no matter how unhappy he is about it) - have given him enough power in order to do so, and he is simply now waiting for the opportune moment to do so.
First Person:
[There’s a sudden weight in the inner pocket of Waver’s suit. He knows it because he is in a constant state of awareness in regards to his body - being a mage dictates that it is necessary for the practice of the craft. Be as it definitely wasn’t there moments ago, he does the only logical thing he can think to do, which is to pull it out and give it a good look over. There’s nothing remarkable to the craftsmanship, nothing that makes it an heirloom or even worth pawning off if the place runs on something other than pounds (God help him if they’re using the Euro), but he knows there must be a trick to it.
There is, and he grins when he flicks the right button. A few experimental moments reveal the video, audio and text functions, and Waver does the most logical thing he can think to do at the moment - crowdsource.]
Simply put: my name is Waver Velvet, Lord El-Melloi II. I require information concerning this place, relating to the following question: the best way to acquire food, how currency works here, who is in charge, and if magecraft or other magic related schools of thought are even possible to use here. Any and all information is appreciated, a far more detailed map doubly so. I hereby assume that this communication network allows for delayed responses, but I would appreciate some level of speed in regards to gaining answers.
Thank you.
Third Person:
Waver sighed, glaring unhappily at the mocking row of books labeled 900.990. Where there should be a row of books about the city, or the country that the city resides, there was nothing. Nothingness, meant interesting. Nothingness also meant frustration, and he addressed the emotion was a soft, mutter of, “Fuck.”
He glared unhappily at the 900.991 books that offered him all the information about New Zealand he could ever want. It was time enough to let his mind run over what this all meant. The lack of books concerning the city meant information was being withheld. It also meant that those in charge knew people might come looking for a history, which made the whole witholding of information not only deliberate, but acted as a form of mockery. It was hard to tell which was the greater insult.
But insults could be processed later. With no information about the city’s history, magic, governance, wildlife, infrastructure and so on down the list, Waver could no longer hope to embroil himself within its machinations and manipulate things to his favour. Or, he could, but to do so would rely on inaccurate and patchy memories from the people living in the city itself, creating a risk.
Time to invent a new strategy all together it was then. Although creating a history might be the first step, based on crowd sourcing and physical investigation. Waver wondered, vaguely, if that second part might get him killed.
Didn’t matter. Knowledge was always worth the ultimate risk.
