APPLICATIONS

APPLICATIONS

Applications are processed weekly, every weekend. The cut-off time for the submission of applications is 11:59PST on Saturday.
✗ Before applying, please read the FAQ and Rules pages.
✗ Please submit your application with the journal you plan to use if you have one made already. If not, another journal is fine, but we prefer your intended journal so it makes for an easier time in granting access to the mod journal and the contacts page.
✗ For very long applications, we would ask you to please separate them into various comments so that they will not take up too much of the page.
✗ Please title your application as { [CANON/CANON OC/OC]CHARACTER NAME || Series Title || reserve/no reserve || X of X } in the subect header
IMPORTANT: Our application form was edited on September 07, 2015. Please use the revised form.
✗ If you are looking for an example of what an application should be like, please refer to the application here for an example of a canon character application, and here for an original character application.

✗ Canon Application

✗ Canon OC Application

✗ OC Application

A note for CR AU applications
Ruby City does allow previous game history/CR to be brought over on a case by case basis. If you want to include this in your application please add additional sections for PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT and PREVIOUS GAME HISTORY beneath the Personality and Background/History sections.

In these additional sections we would like to see a brief outline of your character's previous game history and how it potentially impacted on and altered their canon personality.

QUESTION!

Is it okay to revise the first post in that thread, or do you want a fresh sample?
mirkwoodking: (↣ with shadows on its tale)

Understood! That first version was far too bare. :)

Personality: Thranduil possesses the wisdom of the Elves, yet, in his case, he is far more demonstrative with his emotions than his Elven kin. I believe most of his pain and anger comes from past battles with the Orcs of Mordor; battles with other (lesser) Serpents/Dragons (where he sustained his horrible facial wounds) and the loss of his father Oropher (which occurred in the Battle of Dagorlad). Because of the trauma and loss he has suffered, he wishes to protect his people - even if he has to forsake others to do so. In his mind, no one is more important than those who follow him and his kin - which is why he leaves the Dwarves to flee Smaug instead of standing beside them to combat the Dragon.

Such an alliance would have likely ended in misery - even if they achieved a victory. Besides, the Dwarves had withheld precious gems from him - including the Arkenstone - so he saw no reason to risk his life and the lives of his people. Thranduil has a strong love for gems - and he wishes to possess many of the jewels the Dwarves collected in their stronghold - however he does not take kindly to being denied.

With age, comes wisdom, however even an Elven-King can be childish at times.

However underneath his almost childish/callous approach to the world outside of his Woodland Realm (particularly with the Dwarves), Thranduil does show moments of possessing a softer heart. He could have easily tortured the Dwarves when they entered his domain. Instead, he tried to aid them by keeping them locked up - and fed! - so that they would not approach Erebor and lose their lives in the Dragon's fire. (He was kinder in the book. He let the Dwarves have free-run of the stronghold until they were rude to him. Then he withheld his hospitality and locked them into cells.) Thranduil's reasoning for doing so was quite simple: he wanted Thorin to learn from the mistakes of his father and grandfather. When he saw Thorin was following the same path as his predecessors, he deigned the leader a danger to himself and his followers. Thus, in his own way, he was "protecting them from themselves" (which never goes over well when pride is involved on both sides).

It is no surprise, then, that his bedside manners (in relation to the Dwarves) leave much to be desired. Thranduil makes it clear that he doesn't care for them: mainly because he believes they are liars and fools (due to the fact that they follow the, to him, suicidal path of their kin). However not caring for them does not mean he wants to see them killed: he would rather they learn from the past and settle down in a new home. His message is one he makes clear to those who serve under him (Legolas and Tauriel do not harm the Dwarves as they escape down the river).

In fact, his attention is soon turned on the real threats to his realm once the Dwarves are out of his reach (i.e. the Orcs, Wargs and Spiders). Thus Thranduil is not blinded by his distaste - and he will not chase the Dwarves to the ends of Middle Earth. He will only attempt to teach them (and keep them safe) while they are in his kingdom.

His pride is what stands in the way of him making any real progress with the Dwarves. Truth be told, his intentions are usually good, but his pride tends to lend a dark, cold edge to his words. At his heart, his people - particularly his family (which is composed of a nameless female Elf, his son Legolas and Tauriel to some degree) - mean more to him than his own life. He would sacrifice himself for them; he would even allow himself to be seen as a coward if it kept them safe. (Which is how he differs from some of the Kings that preceded him. The problems of Middle Earth do not interest him - nor does he want to include himself or his people in them. As long as his Woodland Realm endures, Thranduil will not budge to anyone's aid.)

In summation, Thranduil is a proud Elven-King who protects his kingdom passionately. He can be downright childish at times when he is denied something he wants, but underneath that childishness is a dash of wisdom. His dearest wish is to see his kingdom - the kingdom of his father, Oropher - blossom and stay strong even in the darkness of oncoming storms. There will always be wars, but there is only one kingdom like his. The Woodland Realm is his precious gem and he will block the whole world out if need be.

Note: As for how he will treat others in the city, his pride will be very apparent. Anyone younger than him (which is pretty much EVERYONE), will be taken with a grain of salt. However it isn't impossible for him to feel fond of some of the residents. Eventually. And if that day ever comes, they will find themselves under his protection.

And I ended up writing something new anyway, derp.

[The face that appears on the network is not the supremely confident, arrogant god that thought to conquer Earth. This face is a man broken, beaten down and tossed aside. A tired sigh escapes from him as he runs his fingers through his hair before speaking.]

Greetings, people of this realm. I am Loki, of--

[Here he hesitates, the words dying on his tongue. The hand in his hair comes down, placing itself over a spot on his chest, where no doubt a scar from a fatal wound lingers.]

Well, I suppose of nothing, at the moment. How kind of this place to revive the dead, and not just leave a corpse on the train.

[His tone is bitter, though not for the reasons his words implies. Despite his solemn attitude, on the inside he fumes in rage. Once again, the throne of Asgard has been ripped out from under him by forces beyond his control, and now it was at the point of being exasperating.]

A Pilot doesn't come to a standstill. They move always forward.

Note: As I do not want to bring Eth, Ril's sentient ship, with her, since she's pretty much appable, can we somehow work it so the severing process is muted to the point where it won't kill Ril?

Revised Third Person:
It was early morning, the sun still slightly hidden behind the clouds when Richter had awoken. The scene before him was coated in dim morning light, the mist in his eyes slowly faded to reveal the world before him as he laid there and breathed in the cool air. The young man groaned and rubbed away the dust and sleepiness from his face as he silently begged the fates to give him another five minutes. In all honesty though, he's not exactly wanting to return to sleep as well.

Several days had passed since he'd arrived at Ruby City and for the most part, his stay had been good with the only exception being the nights. His nights had been anything but restful and it's not the kind he was used to, no. He would usually spend his nights on riding the wind across the city skyline, his sword strapped to his hip as he hunts down criminal scum and scare punks half to death, but ever since he injured his sword arm, his nights had become more difficult. His mind becomes truly alive when the sun goes down but without the distraction of the criminal underworld, it focus on other things like his fears, his regrets, and old memories he would rather not relive.

He closed his eye, darkness hiding the present but showing the past. March 23 1991, roughly ten thirty in the evening, his eighth birthday. The memory of the night was scattered and hazy at best, but he can still picture it in his mind, fragments of precious memories, good and bad. His parents had gone to work, promising him they'll be back sooner than usual to celebrate his special day, bringing with them gifts, cake, anything he would have wanted. Richter expected that night to be the best night of his life, one he would never forget and in way, his expectations were met. To this day he can still feel his sister's shivering hand on his shoulders, the blinding lights of the police car that pulled up to his house, the grim faces of the officers, the dread that had crept up his spine, and the eerie silence that had enveloped his home. His sister had said so many things to him, promises that everything will be okay, that it will only hurt now, that the pain will go away, and that he would be happy again but, they had fallen on deaf ears. Richter had only heard four words, four words that changed his life forever.

'You're parents…..they're gone.'

It was then that the world had turned inside out. He doesn't remember what came next, only the sound of something breaking, his sister pulling him close as he thrashed about, tears flowing down his cheeks like a waterfall, and the world being drowned out by the deafening silence as the darkness dragged him into it's bosom.

"I knew this would be difficult, not agonizing." He rolled to one side of his bed then sat up, and leaned his lethargic body on his knees. He felt terrible, his sleep was shallow and plagued by the ghosts of his past, taunting him, reminding him of the pain and anger that grips his very being. He released a long and weary sigh then stood up and opened the window. The cold dawn air caressed his face as he looked out onto the city, and watched the stillness of the world and the silence that blanketed it. "I need coffee. Do I have coffee?"

Fourteen years had passed since that night and so much has happened since then. He'd made his mistakes, suffered his tragedies, and has found a way to turn his despair into something worthwhile. The silence no longer bothered him, neither did the darkness, and the only thing that bugged him now? Insomnia.
