A note for CR AU applications
Ruby City does allow previous game history/CR to be brought over on a case by case basis. If you want to include this in your application please add additional sections for PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT and PREVIOUS GAME HISTORY beneath the Personality and Background/History sections.

In these additional sections we would like to see a brief outline of your character's previous game history and how it potentially impacted on and altered their canon personality.

[CANON] Gabumon || Digimon Adventure || No Reserve || 2 of 3

[personal profile] blueblaster 2013-12-20 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
Digimon Adventure Gabumon, like all Gabumon in general, is a shy monster who prefers friendship to fighting. Though he resists fighting, with other Digimon and with his partner, if he is pushed to his limit he will defend himself and anyone he cares about is threatened. This is why he and Yamato obtain the Crest of Friendship; whenever their friends are in danger, like the time Seadramon attacks the Chosen Children and captures Yamato, Gabumon is eager to evolve and launch an attack. Otherwise, Gabumon is a calm Digimon.

Speaking of Yamato, Gabumon considers him his most treasured friend. His loyalty and devotion to Yamato is so intense that when Yamato leaves the safety of the group, Gabumon does everything in his power to convince the boy to return. When he refuses, Gabumon promises to stay by his side and do whatever he can to help Yamato, which includes challenging the other Chosen Children and their Digimon. They go so far as to attack Taichi and Agumon, entering a battle against Wargreymon as Metalgarurumon. After the Chosen Children work out their differences, Gabumon gladly rejoins the team with Yamato and resumes fighting as their ally. His dedication to his friends is never broken, only put under stress.

When he warms up to people, Gabumon is a friendly and kind monster. At Yamato’s urging, Gabumon leaves his side to hold Yamato’s younger brother Takeru to keep him warm. Gabumon could have refused, but understanding that Yamato just wants to take care of his brother, follows his orders, but not without telling Yamato he should be a little more forward next time. Another time, Yamato falls ill while searching for Takeru on a cold, snow-covered island. Gabumon takes him back to a cave where he keeps a fire going, then covers Yamato with his pelt. Gabumon is very resistant to removing his pelt, being a modest Digimon, so giving up his pelt for anyone is a sign of great love. The next morning Gabumon develops a cold but doesn’t complain about it. He rarely groans about anything, and is more likely to suffer through a bad situation than make trouble for anyone else. Gabumon believes in sharing and equality, treating everyone he meets with respect as long as they aren’t making trouble.

Gabumon has a few fears and weaknesses. He can’t stand the thought of his friends suffering and being unable to help them. In general he would be sad to lose his friends, as anyone would. He is very sensitive about his pelt and nudity. When Taichi teases him about giving up his pelt, Gabumon runs away in fear. At another point in the series, the children enjoy a hot bath while Gabumon stands miserably around the corner. He has one hand on his shoulder, having removed the pelt from one of his arms, but does not undress any further. It can be assumed he never joins the other Digimon and their partners. After a difficult fight in which he does or does not evolve, Gabumon will revert to his in-training stage, Tsunomon. Whenever Gabumon loses his strength, he needs food and rest to repower. If he is hungry or tired, his Petit Fire attack is more like a matchstick lighting than an honest flame, and he cannot evolve. Gabumon also cannot evolve without Yamato or without a strong power source, as seen in 02 when Qinglongmon’s DigiCore gives Gabumon the ability to evolve to Weregarurumon after he’d lost that power.

Background: This has a decent summary, and there are episode recaps here.

[CANON] Gabumon || Digimon Adventure || No Reserve || 3 of 3

[personal profile] blueblaster 2013-12-20 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
Abilities:
Gabumon has one ability in particular that he uses more than anything else, and that is his Petit Fire/Blue Blaster attack. He breathes blue flames from his mouth, working as a long-range attack. He is also able to attack with his horn, but Petit Fire is his choice of attack. Gabumon is also capable of evolving three times, each time becoming stronger, but without Yamato or another source to gain power from, he cannot evolve. If Gabumon loses enough strength, he will revert to his in-training stage, Tsunomon. He is particularly vulnerable as Tsunomon, being a weak baby Digimon, but with enough food and rest, he can gain enough energy to evolve back to Gabumon. Tsunomon’s only attacks are a bouncy tackle and spitting bubbles that aren’t particularly impressive.

His other evolutions are:

Garurumon, a wolf-like champion stage Digimon whose fur is incredibly strong. In this form, he is much faster and more powerful. His choice of attack is Fox Fire/Howling Blaster which is an upgrade of his rookie form’s Petit Fire. Fox Fire’s flames are strong, powerful and reach farther than Petit Fire. Garurumon can also tackle his prey, though he uses Fox Fire more than anything.

Weregarurumon, an ultimate stage Digimon who looks just like a werewolf. Weregarurumon sacrifices his previous stage’s movement speed for quick punches and kicks, increased strength in all limbs and improved defense. Weregarurumon’s jump is also very impressive because while he has lost speed, he still retains Garurumon’s strong hind legs. In this form he has two attacks: Circle Moon Kick/Garuru Kick and Kaiser Nail/Wolf Claw. When he uses Circle Moon Kick, Weregarurumon creates a shockwave with just one kick. Kaiser Nail causes the nails on Weregarurumon's hands to glow and is used to slash his opponent.

Metalgarurumon, a cyborg wolf Digimon in the mega stage. Metalgarurumon becomes speedy again while also becoming stronger because its body is a massive weapon. The blades sticking out of his shoulders give Metalgarurumon the ability to fly as seen later in the series, but he stays mainly on the ground. He has four attacks in this form: Cocytus Breath/Metal Wolf Claw breathes a breath so cold whatever it touches freezes and, assuming the opponent is weaker, dies. Grace Cross Freezer/Ice Wolf Claw launches weapons from different compartments hidden on Metalgarurumon’s body. Freeze Bomber/Giga Missile opens a compartment on his chest and launches a freezing bomb. Metal Wolf Snout fires four lasers from the laser sights on Metalgarurumon’s snout.

First Person:
[audio]

Hello? [Quiter.] Is this how you do it? Maybe it’s this one— Oh, it’s working!

[Speaks in a normal voice.] Hello! The sign at the train station says I should introduce myself to everyone here. I’m not sure if this is a good idea, but I think should say it now so none of you get the wrong idea. I don’t want to scare anyone.

My name is Gabumon and I’m a digital monster from the Digital World. You can call me and others like me Digimon. I’m a good Digimon so you don’t have to worry about me making any trouble. I’d rather be friends if that’s all right. I can even cover myself if it makes it easier. Just let me know.

Third Person:
Gabumon gripped the silver watch in one hand while he picked up one of the blankets at the station. He wasn’t cold; his Garurumon pelt warded off any chill he might have felt. With one corner gripped in each hand, he threw the blanket up and over his head so that it covered his horn and body. It was better than the coat he’d hidden under in Odaiba, but no less ridiculous. This way, he thought, he could reach shelter and not risk alarming the rest of the city. The people patrolling the station didn’t seem to mind him, but they were only part of a larger mass whose tolerance Gabumon couldn’t judge.

The coffee shop labeled on the map was open to newcomers, but Gabumon hesitated at the thought of people staying in the same space. If there were people staying there, they would ask questions and demand to know what was under his blanket. Worse, they might take it from him and then fly into a panic. The last time he had wandered around a city, just the sight of a Digimon terrified people. At that time the city was under the control of an evil Digimon, but Gabumon didn’t think he was excused from taking precautions just because of that situation. He wanted to play it safe and keep everyone satisfied.

Anyway, he was a Digimon; he’d spent most of his life living in a forest, and lived in many different places after that. He could survive with simple shelter and food even if it wasn’t ideal. After securing his own space, he could work on gradually introducing himself to other residents until he didn’t need the blanket anymore. If he integrated himself, he would have a better shot at figuring out how to get home. Humans, he thought, would be more likely to help him if they knew he was no threat.

It seemed like a good plan to Gabumon, who nodded to himself. He would have to start immediately if he had any hope of getting home soon. Quickly he gathered some of the available supplies in another blanket, wrapped it up and hugged it to himself while still clutching the other blanket close. When everything felt secure, the Digimon left the train station in search of a new home.

CHARACTER
Name: The War Doctor. We're at the name and it's already complicated. None of the Doctors from 9 upwards count this one as a "Doctor" due to his actions. Even the War Doctor agrees with that. However, he's referred to by the end of Day of the Doctor by his name, and is listed as the War Doctor in all written formats. Just to make it even more complicated, upon regenerating into the War Doctor, he states he's a "Doctor no more" and is known to the Time Lords as the "Renegade". Apparently being the Doctor during the Time War and committing mass genocide gives you name-perks.
Canon: Doctor Who.
Age: Physically in his late sixties or early seventies. Mentally? Apparently not even he knows. The estimate would be in the late 800's early 900's but that is grasping at straws. The reason being that the Doctor can't keep his age right in his own head.
Timeline: Before his regeneration in Day of the Doctor. However, one thing to note is that he should not be able to remember attempting to save Gallifrey; it was a given that all the Doctors minus Eleven would forget the actions they had done that day due to separate time streams. So the War Doctor will have memories of the weapon and deciding to use it, and then being back in his TARDIS.
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?:N/A

Personality: "War Doctor: No more."

The War Doctor, unlike his other selves, is most likely winner of the 'most grim Doctor' award. And that all boils down to the situation he has found himself in. Above all else, this Doctor is a fighter, a warrior. When the Eighth regenerated, it was with the determination that the next one be the warrior the Time War needed, and they didn't get it wrong. The War Doctor is smart and tactical, he's able to break into the Omega vault on Gallifrey and escape with The Moment with seemingly little issue. He knows what it is and what it does too, showing a grim determination to end the Time War. He's a tired Doctor, having seen a lot of things with the eyes he currently has. Upon his "birth" the War Doctor was actually young, which means that he's been in the War in that current incarnation for quite some time, lending credit to the fact he's smart enough to survive for that long in a desperate situation. He'd seen enough to know that killing all Time Lords and Daleks was the only way of saving the universe, showing that grim determination- that no matter how much he doesn't like it, and the fact it's going to kill him, he's going to do it.

"Tenth Doctor: You were The Doctor on the day it wasn't possible to get it right."

It's a known fact that the later incarnations of the Doctor shun the War Doctor, claiming that he isn't even a Doctor due to his actions. Not until the end of the movie of course. And it's something that the War Doctor actually agrees with. This Doctor is someone who looks before he leaps, mulling over actions before doing them. Whilst Ten and Eleven show kneejerk reactions, War Doctor is more just standing there, making pointed remarks on the other two's actions instead. Thus it comes back to the Time War. The War Doctor knows what he is doing is mass genocide. Even when he knows just how many billions of children there are on Gallifrey, or how it affects his later incarnations and their actions, he is still going to press that button. It is for the greater good. War Doctor knows what he's doing is heinous, there's no shame in admitting that. In fact, at one point he defends what was done, stating there was no choice in his actions. The War Doctor does not make excuses, and he sure doesn't gild the lily.

"War Doctor: Oh the pointing again. They're screwdrivers! What are you going to do? Assemble a cabinet at them?"

Time War aside, War Doctor does have personality other than the dark stuff. He is seemingly easily exasperated, especially by his two other selves and the things they come out with. War Doctor also has no issue in scolding the pair either. Timey-Wimey? The pair of them obviously need to stop acting like children. Even towards the end of the show, when the other two Doctor's shout out their 'battlecries', War Doctor can't help but roll his eyes and mutter "for God sake" before throwing in one of his own. The War Doctor has a serious frame of mind, and so the antics of his other selves appear childish and silly to him. It's not exactly a surprise though when this Doctor was born during the Time War to end it.

"Clara: Hang on, three of you in one cell and none of you thought to try the door?
War Doctor: It should have been locked.
Eleven: Yes, exactly. Why wasn't it locked?"

Despite the seriousness, the War Doctor does have some levity down there and it bubbles to the surface on occasion. When Ten is stating he is not wearing sand shoes, War Doctor is quick to jump in stating that they are. His sense of humour is dry, his sarcasm sharp. The War Doctor seems to like his quick witted comments, especially when it's directed at his older selves. It's not too often this happens, but it is there. And once it's revealed the destruction of Gallifrey doesn't happen, the War Doctor is much more relaxed, smiling and (still) enjoys tormenting his two older selves. He's fine with giving Clara a hug and a peck on the cheek, the weight is off his shoulders which shows that the War Doctor is carrying a heavy burden with the Time War event.

"War Doctor: We might as well get started. Help to pass the timey-wimey. Do you have to talk like children? What is it that makes you so ashamed of being a grown-up? Oh. The way you both look at me. I'm trying to think of a better word than "dread."

Overall, the War Doctor is a smart man. He knows exactly why the two others are looking at him with dread, making a point of bringing up the elephant in the room. There are moments where the actual Doctor in him shines through too, showing that he can make mad calculations in his mind. And despite being blunt and to the point, the War Doctor also knows when to keep his mouth shut. It would have been all to easy to say he hadn't destroyed Gallifrey yet, but that just wasn't on the cards. It was better to just take the negativity and blame for something he had not yet done, he'd deserve it in his mind. He can also be civilized when needed, being a complete gentleman for anyone that isn't the Doctor.

[CANON] The War Doctor || Doctor Who|| reserve || 2 of 2

[personal profile] gallifreyfalls 2013-12-20 11:40 am (UTC)(link)
Background: Wiki Link

Abilities: The Doctor doesn't really tend to have abilities per say, but he does have some attributes if that makes sense. Firstly the Doctor is smart, he can work things out at a breakneck speed and then some more. His understanding of time and space goes beyond the norm, and has a good grasp on what cause and effect really is about. There's also the sonic screwdriver, a metal screwdriver that can scan objects and give whatever readings needed on them. It can also manipulate most things, except for wood. There's also some slight telepathy which is rarely used, and all the quirks of having two hearts, making him somewhat more resilient than the average human.

First Person: [It's prudent to use text when you're not 100% on what you're dealing with.]

Really? What a load of nonsense. I suppose this is the point where I'm meant to ask where I am. And I doubt it's the first time you've heard that one. So good time of day to you. By this point you probably have some welcome parties set up, so feel free to let them send their information to me on these devices. It would be prudent and helpful of course.

That or you could leave me to just wander around. Wouldn't be the first time.

Do I have to start with the basics? If so, then where's the exit? I don't really have time to be doing this in a place I'm not needed in.

Third Person: (taken from Asgard, will be happy to write a new one out if needed.)

It was pretty clever what had happened. Even the War Doctor had to admit that one. Not only had he been moved to another place, but it had been done at such the perfect time. Painlessly, soundless, it was definitely well done. And that made it all the more bothersome. The War Doctor shook his head as he eyed his surroundings, hands clasped behind his back. One moment he'd been in his TARDIS, the next right here in Asgard. There'd been no noise or build up; it had just simply happened. And that made it a problem, a big one. It was the War Doctor's opinion that nothing ever just happened. Sure there were reasons for it- like the ones he'd heard on arriving, vague as they were- but the physics of it all bothered him. The amount of energy needed for such a pull would have been astronomical. Such a seamless event....

At the end of it all, the outcome of winding up in a new place really didn't make much difference. The War Doctor wouldn't have batted an eyelid if a meteor hurtled from the heavens, striking them all down. Not after the heinous thing he had done. The most terrible of all things. He had pressed the button that wiped out Gallifrey. Not only Gallifrey but it's billions of inhabitants, Time Lords and Daleks (the latter not a major loss). At the end of the day it had been the only option. Destroy the galaxy that Gallifrey resided in, or let the Time War destroy all of reality. Yet as much as the War Doctor thought that to himself, it didn't lessen the pain in his hearts any. Those were his people, the large majority of them innocent of all things. Mothers, fathers, children, all gone and he had been the one to do it. The War Doctor sighed inwardly, wondering if he would ever come to terms with it. It was such a dreadful event he could barely even remember doing it. It was clear as day- the reasoning, stealing the Moment and taking it to the abandoned hut. God, he could even remember the Interface talking to him. About what though was vague, and the War Doctor knew the rest was blanked out. Perhaps that was for the best in the end. Who would want to remember causing mass genocide to begin with? It had been the right thing to do, and there was nothing anyone in the Universe could say to change that.

No-one could say anything to change it.

The punishment for such a thing was to survive. The War Doctor could remember that part, and what a punishment it was. He'd had every intention of going down with the planet, and now he had to see the rammifications of his actions for the rest of his days. And what days those would be, if they were going to be spent in Asgard. Norse mythology was always a strange read even on a good day. The War Doctor had no illusions this was going to be easy, but it sure would be a good distraction from the whirlwind of thoughts in his mind over Gallifrey. He would need information first. That would be the important bit. Information and lodgings. Since his TARDIS wasn't around the War Doctor knew he would have to get used to every day things. That was until he found his way out. Then who knew?

"Perhaps a beach and some sunshine," the War Doctor muttered to himself, casting an eye the bracelet he'd been given. Simple device, user friendly. Everyone was probably joined up through a network of sorts. That was another disturbing thought. If he'd been given one of these bracelets and some basic information, then that meant there were others around. Other people pulled in from all reaches of the universe. Probably all reaches of time as well. Just what kind of issue did the Asguardians have that would warrant such a tactic? Whatever it was, it reeked of desperation. This wasn't going to be pretty. It would probably be hard work, tedious and a pain in the backside. Between the end of the Time War and Asgard, it had all the chances of causing a midlife crisis.

The War Doctor looked forwards to it, and unlike his successors he didn't need a shouted catchphrase to show his enthusiasm. Just the slightest curl of his lips would do.

CHARACTER
Name: Kanji Tatsumi
Canon: Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4
Age: Just 16/Looks like he’s 19
Timeline: May 3rd, 2012
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: N/A

Personality: Despite his tough appearance, Kanji enjoys to sew and knit. Yep, you read that right. This tall (he’s 6’) and rough looking guy likes to do some decidedly not very masculine hobbies. That could probably be blamed on the fact that his family owns the local textile store in Inaba and he’s the only son. However, he really just enjoys his hobbies and he doesn’t really care what anyone thinks. (Including you.)

At least, that’s what he’d like for you to believe. The fact of the matter is that Kanji cares very much what others think of him. He has tried to balance out his hobbies and his father’s last words to him about being a “real man”. Sadly, he is unable to do this and has thus begun to rebel against the loneliness that his “strange” hobbies have forced him into. Girls find him strange and creepy for doing “girly” things and guys teased and picked on him until he started to fight back.

As such, he spent a lot of time angry at those around him, while really wanting to have friends. When he first shows up as a character of interested in both the anime and the game, it is because he is on a news program, beating up a biker gang. Most of the kids in the school believe that he is now the leader of said gang, but he has nothing to do with them. Really.

~ "Underestimate me, and this is what you get!" ~

When he is later asked about the incident, he tells the Investigation Team that he was only trying to get the gang to go away so his mother could sleep, since the loud noises were keeping her awake at night. In the anime, the protagonist sees Kanji in the halls after seeing him on the Midnight Channel—making him a marked future victim of the killer of Inaba—where the taller boy drops a cute, pink, knitted doll. Kanji is, of course, extremely embarrassed and becomes a little aggressive as he attempts to get away completely. (And though this is a dumbing down of the actual development that his S.Link with the protagonist goes through, it’s not exact and it’s fairly superficial. Therefore, it’s going to be ignored as nothing but an example of his attitude.)

When he meets Naoto, he finds the young detective attractive, but believing she is a guy, Kanji begins to question his sexuality. When he is abducted into the TV world, his dungeon is a steamy, questionable bath house filled with sweaty, well-muscled shadows. The battle with his Shadow is filled with questionably effeminate behaviour, meaning to remark on the fact that he might be homosexual. However, when it came down it, Kanji’s real problem is that he’s terrified of rejection, no matter the gender of the person. When he realizes this, through the help of the protagonist and the rest of the Investigation Team, he punches his Shadow in the face, knocking it out before accepting that as a part of himself. (He is the only member of the team to strike his Shadow.)

~ "It ain't a matter of guys or chicks... I'm just scared shitless of being rejected." ~

During his development with the rest of the team, he learns to become more comfortable with himself. He shows that he is a normal teenage boy with normal desires on the school camp-out by getting a nosebleed when Chie and Yukiko dress up in skimpy bathing suits. He also tries to prove his manliness to Yosuke by rushing into the girls’ side of the encampment, despite the fact that a very hostile teacher (Mr. Morooka, AKA King Moron) was patrolling to keep the boys from being in the girls’ tents. He takes the teasing very well, for all intents and purposes, but it is only when Naoto is involved that it becomes an issue and you can see his shy side come out.

His Social Link is personified by the Emperor Arcana and begins in the game under the rumour of him bullying other students. The Protagonist can find him in the practice building near the sewing room. After asking to speak to Kanji, he then confronts him on the Flood Plains near the River, where Kanji reassures him that the accusations are false and the Emperor S. Link reaches level one.

At level 3 of the S. Link, the Protagonist has the option to encourage Kanji to make dolls for a young boy to help him with a girl he likes. This will also help Kanji to find the courage to sell said dolls at the textile shop his family owns. At the end of the Emperor S. Link (level 10), Kanji has a heart-to-heart talk at the Dojima residence where it is revealed about the complete reason for his sexuality confusion and how he has resolved it within himself—to do everything 100% and that he’s accepted completely his hobbies. He gives the Protagonist a cute phone strap and his Persona evolves to Rokuten Maou. He even teases that he’s going to start a puppet-making class that is to be held in his senpai’s room.

Background: Kanji at the MST wiki

Abilities: Kanji can use his Persona, Rokuten-Maoh, with his lightning-based attacks to inflict damage to enemies or buff allies for three turns in battle. He is a tall, strong and athletically built teen who is used to street fights, as his battle style severely reflects. He uses what are literally found items as weapons, such as a school desk (his gag weapon) or the shield one finds after defeating the special boss in his bath house dungeon.

First Person:
[Accidental Video]

[The young man was sitting in at his table, skeins of many different coloured yarn surrounding him as his hands moved with the ease of one used to the work he was doing. His face, not always the prettiest on a good day, was screwed up in concentration as he worked and talked to himself.]

Knit one row. Perl one row. Skip the last two stitches. Repeat.

I dunno who thought these directions were hard, but I swear this’s gotta be the easiest project out of the ones I’ve started since I got here. By the time I’m done, I’ll have the cutest damn hat and scarf in this entire fucked up city. Yep.

[He puts his yarn and needles down to examine the obvious-to-him hat better.]

If I use green here, I bet Chie-senpai would like it. And an orange one for Yosuke-senpai. I dunno about Sanada or that Labrys girl. Maybe I’ll ask around.

[He looks over and it’s obvious from the way his grey eyes widen that he didn’t know the watch was on. Especially when his cheeks start to turn a bright red before the watch is closed suddenly.]

Third Person:
One of Kanji’s favourite things to do in the entire universe was to use his hands. Whether that was to sit down and create tiny, adorable masterpieces or bashing in the faces of Shadows in the TV world with his friends, Kanji was happiest when he was busy doing something. This sitting around and waiting for things to happen was for someone else.

Not that he was gonna go out and pledge himself for the stupid patrol force either. (Well, he wouldn’t do it on his own, but if Yosuke or Senpai suggested they do it, he might. Eh, that was a different story though.)

Nope, Kanji, after finding out he could use his Persona here in this strange world, went out to find and fight the crazy monsters in that were getting closer and closer to the residential parts of the city. It gave him something to do. Something productive. It kept his mind off of what he was missing back home, who he missed. If he was fighting with his body, mind and spirit, he was so exhausted by the time he got back to the house that he just dropped right to sleep after a meal and shower.

He wasn’t stupid. He knew it couldn’t last as a distraction for much longer, but he’d take advantage of it while he could. That was the smart thing to do, right?

[OC] Noa Tasi || Original || no reserve || 2 of 4

[personal profile] verybigcat 2013-12-21 07:09 am (UTC)(link)
CHARACTER
Name: Noa Tasi
Age: 28
Appearance:

Noa is a very large Pacific Islander, measuring somewhere around 6'9" and weighing about 250 lbs. A majority of his mass is muscle; he's got broad shoulders and a strong back, built from years of manual labor and hard work. His already dark skin is pretty brown from basically spending all his time in the sun and his hair has gone to a darker brown rather than the usual black because of it. There are three notable things to Noa beyond this: his ears and tail, his prominent facial scarring, and his amputated arm (right). The damage to his face consists of loss of sight in his right eye, the lack of cheek and resulting sight of his teeth and ligaments to the naked eye, and dark scarring all the way down the right side of his face, neck, and shoulder. His right arm is amputated at the shoulder. His arm and face are the result of an accident a few years previous; the ears and tail are also related, but they also link back to physiology. Due to a lack of physical therapy, Noa's muscles did not heal entirely correctly, making shifting out of this form incredibly painful. He can get rid of them or even extend it further, but he tends not to. It hurts like the devil, you know?

Chosen PB: Noa's icons will be illustrated. I have drawn most of them, but there are a couple commissioned by other artists! You can see them here.

Personality:

For all the magic in his world, were-creatures are still pretty rare. Werewolves are, of course, well known (but rarely seen, in all honesty; they’re really only social with each other. Who knew?) but other skin changers are less common. One such example is the were-cat. Were-cats are interesting and complex creatures because they are exactly what they sound like. Cats. And cats, as many of us know, are precocious and strange and also just fucking adorable. Noa is a were-cat. (You might have already figured that out.)

This isn’t the most important aspect to his personality and character, but it is a rather large one. His cat-like qualities are sometimes the biggest deciders in his actions. Cats tend to just- do what they want. And while Noa does have the presence of mind not to be an asshole 90% of the time things…slip. He’s not big on talking about being a were-cat, though. There isn’t a stigma against were-people in his world, but it’s not one of those things you’re really vocal about. Out of sight, out of mind to an extent.

Traits picked up from his more cat like qualities include; a more introverted nature, the occasional bought of pickiness, and the ability to get stuck in awkward and compromising situations. Really. He's got terrible luck.

Beyond that, though, Noa can be very charming. He’s something of a flirt and his day is usually made when he can make a pretty girl laugh or smile. Before the accident, he was quite the ladies man. But these days, he’s much more selective with who he decides to put the charm on. I guess you could say he’s kind of scared of the rejection. He’s well aware that he can look pretty terrifying or disconcerting, whether it be his height, his face, or the sheer amount of muscle mass he’s acquired. The very last thing he wants is to make someone scared or uncomfortable.

While Noa does try and keep his cool, does have a few problems with his anger, however. It used to be more under control, but the never-ending frustration of his situation is enough to just drive the poor man bonkers. He tends to really only get angry when he's alone or when he's scared; the moment he is found lacking in some way due to the results of his accident, he is much more likely to lash out. Asking him to think about it logically doesn't work out very well, really, because he doesn't want peoples logic. He wants to be able to do the things he used to and not feel like he's worthless or lacking purpose in life.

World Information:

In most ways, Noa’s world is basically just like our own. The history is largely the same, major events play out in almost the same exact fashion, discoveries are found more or less at the same time as they usually are; the only exception is really that Magic plays a role. Magic is simple a part of things where he comes from. It simply Is. Welcome to Magic Realism. Magic Realism is the concept that magic normal in its setting, making it mostly innocuous rather than a big thing that everyone has to blather on about. It is simply a part of people’s day to day lives, to the point that the cat suddenly growing wings is something that people can brush off as yet another trifling accident made by a growing witch or a cunning little wizard. Strange events and Happenings are as normal as running water, to the point that Alice in Wonderland is considered less of a fanciful tale and more of a charming slice of life.

At current, it is July of 1920 in the US of A. Noa’s job as a big cat caretaker and trainer is a good position and he’s rather good at it. The circus is a fairly popular attraction during this time, since people were more accustomed to leaving their homes for entertainment. The world is pretending to be less jaded than it actually is, finding joys in the little things; after all, the war was only 2 years ago. Not even the presence of magic could make the horrors and atrocities of the Great War seem even slightly better. The 20’s are largely a time where people tried to forget their problems, seeking out new things and experiences to keep their mind off their troubles. The circus helps that. The tent at this particular circus is particularly special; the acts underneath it are especially dramatic and full of flare. It works as an enhancer for the magic within, giving it extra sparkle and razzle dazzle.

Noa doesn’t really do an act at the circus, however. He’s more of a behind the scenes sort of guy. The physical effects of his accident stop him from having the confidence to step into the ring; a shame, really, because he can be quite the showman if given the chance. Before that happened, Noa used to be incredibly popular and could make the cats practically dance for him. It doesn’t hurt that he’s basically one of them. (See: Personality. Were-cat, go!)

Though on the surface, his world can seem pretty nice. And in many ways, it is. But like our world, which is oh-so-close to Noa’s own, there are always Problems. Wars still happen, as we’ve already established. Persecution is still very much a thing, whether it be towards gender, race, or sexuality. Cruelty and violence still play heavy roles and many still turn a blind eye on the plight of their fellow man. It’s important to remember that Magic is not a solution in this world; it cannot make things better by itself. It is simply another factor in a sea of others. People are the drivers of change in this world. Magic is just the spice of life.

History:

Noa was born on April 20th of 1892 in southern California. His parents immigrated to the US when they were teenagers, and he spent nearly his entire childhood and teenage years under the hot California sun. Noa is a big fan of water and he loved the beach as a child, running up and down the sand and splashing around until he was too exhausted to move. Noa is not quite the baby of the family, the 4th of 5 children, but he is his mothers favorite regardless. When he was 8, Noa was bit by some kind of feral creature which later turned out to be a were-cat; of course, once the were-cat turned back into a human being, she came and apologized for the incident which was really quite nice of her, considering.

The woman's name was Rebecca and she came from a long line of were-cats and was genuinely sorry for pushing Noa into something without his express permission. She taught him the ropes of how to be the best that he could be and when he got the basics, she left as quickly as the came-- in the form of a giant puma. Which is hella cool, lets be real. Needless to say, Noa used his powers for mischief. They didn't really affect his life at all past the occasional urge to be fuzzy and roll around in pleasant smelling greenery. It wasn't until he reached the ripe age of 18 that Noa's powers really gave him anything beneficial.

It was around that time that a traveling circus rolled into town. Once he was able to, Noa started working, busing tables and doing warehouse work, and luckily enough for him he just so happened to get that fateful night off. The members of the audience and the lion tamer herself were more than a little shocked when their usually reserved and hard to please lioness bounded up to the slightly surprised Noa and tried to curl up in his lap like a housecat.

Hey. He's a ladies man. They just can't keep their paws off of him.

The lion tamer later turned out to be Jillian, Noa's latest employer. The woman immediately realized that Noa had something in him that was meant to be used. He was good with animals, great with people, and had all the charisma to run a show. This was the man she was waiting for. The act needed something special something to bring them some attention. So naturally, she offered him a job. And that's how Noa officially became The Guy Who Feeds The Big Cats. It paid more than any other job he'd had before and with that, he could save up and maybe even go to college one day. So he kissed his mom on the cheek, gave his dad a manly hug, and ran off to join the circus.

The circus was good. It wasn't sunshine and roses, but it was good. The world changed around Noa while he was there, unsinkable ships sank, the social hierarchy was changing, things weren't all horse drawn carriages and steam powered engines. The world was an amazing place. Terrible. And amazing. But its funny, sometimes, how quickly things change. 4 years after joining the circus, early in 1914, Noa lost control. He didn't lose control of himself; he lost control of a cat.

And in the process he lost his arm, half his sight, and all of the money he had saved for his dream of school.

Noa had a connection with the big cats, but he wasn't, at his core, one of them. The cats were still animals and he was still a man. Ultimately, the accident wasn't entirely his fault. A member of the audience erupted in the middle of the set, spooking one of the larger tigers and making it very snappish and hard to work with. When he tried to calm it down and get it out of the ring, it attacked him. Noa had never been scared of the cats before. He wonders, now, if that's why it happened. Did he not respect them enough? Not give them the space and courtesy needed? Was he so blinded by their connection that he forgot that ultimately, these were animals who could rip his throat out in a heartbeat?

He did the best he could to get the cat off of him, changing and shifting in the middle of the ring to try and up his chances, but the cat took him down before anything could be done. When he tries to remember what happened, all he can think about was the pain and the blood and the screaming.

He tries not to think about it.

The cat was put down and Noa's career as a lion tamer was over. The money he saved went towards the medical bills he suddenly acquired and and he was realized then that the circus, which had once been his ticket out, was now a one way trip. There was no getting off this train. No one else in their right mind would hire him. He was a one armed freak show with two cat ears and a tail.

It's been a 6 years since his accident and he's not sure he'll ever fully recover from it. The accident changed who Noa was, really; he used to be more outgoing, more charming, more willing to just try new things and see where the road took him. He still reads and still thinks and still writes but he was naturally left handed and he even if he bought a type writer, using it one handed would be incredibly annoying.

When people see Noa these days, he wears a bandana or a scarf (depending on the weather) over the lower half of his face, hiding the exposure of teeth and gum on the one side. Jillian tries to tell him that it doesn't matter what other people thing, he should just stick it to them and be himself but, well- that's a battle far from won and at this point in time, there's no fixing it.

Abilities:

Noa is a were-cat, granting him the ability to turn into a giant cat. The way that were-cats work in his world is that instead of transforming on a schedule like werewolves, they tend to just....do what they want. Since they're cats and that's what they do. Noa does get more feral looking when he's angry (nails turn into claws, teeth become elongated, overall just gets hairier) but anger alone is not enough to trigger the reaction. Beyond that, he's a pretty strong dude and is very knowledgeable on how to take care of various creatures. Noa is also a huge nerd and loves books. Literary references are like his bread and butter and he loves to read. He was originally saving up to go to college and read MORE books but since the accident, he's sort of let that plan fall to the wayside.

First Person:

[ Noa tries not to regret doing certain things, he really does. Regrets just weigh you down and make it hard to focus on all the good things that happen. Unfortunately, Noa does very much regret his current situation. ]

Is ah- is anybody down there? Possibly? It would be nice if someone were....

[ He gets no reply. Hunched up high up in a tree, Noa looks at everything with a nervous expression. Oh dear. Oh dear oh dear. He's a cat stuck in a tree. And that's terrible. ]

Third Person:

All things considered, suddenly appearing on a train to nowhere was less bizarre than other things Noa had heard about. He'd once read about a woman who woke up with three versions of her husband from three alternate dimensions making her breakfast in the same exact kitchen. They were very sweet (they made french toast), but still. Three husbands was a lot of husbands. Especially when they were all technically married to you.

But still. Train heading to mystery location via foggy tracks. Dubious at best, short ride to death at worst. And a cold one at that. Noa visibly shivered, ears flattening against his skull. Well, it seemed that this particular dubious train was not in South Carolina where Noa last remembered being. Curiouser and curiouser.

--Oh. It seems he's at his stop.

Exiting the train, Noa's tail lashed about, ears perked upwards in curiousity. His breath filtered through and around the thin bandana covering the lower half of his face and a visible shiver runs down his body. God damn, it is cold. He was only wearing an undershirt and work pants today; it was hot in the carolina summer. He wasn't exactly prepared for this sudden situation of Christmas in July.

His ears resumed their place against his head and his tail wrapped around his waist in some vain attempt to stay warm.

That's when he felt the sudden weight of the pocket watch. Pulling it out, his eye lights up.

"Well, this is interesting!" Clicking it open with his hand, he stares at the screen with intrigue. "I've gotta be honest, this is adorable. A pocket watch communicator. What will they think of next."

Perhaps he could get in contact with someone who could hook him up with a coat? Oh, the possibilities.

CHARACTER
Name: Rose Tyler
Canon: Doctor Who
Age: 19
Timeline: Season 2, School Reunion, when trying to get into the computers, just after Sarah Jane mentions the Loch Ness Monster.
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: N/A

Personality:

She is much more courageous than she, or most people, give her credit for. When she first met the Doctor, she stuck with him when living plastics were chasing her, saved him from the Nestene Consciousness and joined him in the TARDIS without even thinking about it. She doesn’t hesitate to get involved and help the Doctor, even if it means that she puts herself in danger. While this isn’t something she does for just anyone, she will help who she can and stand up for what she believes in. Even if that means she has to go toe-to-toe against the Doctor in an argument.

She’s also very intelligent for someone that comes from a time that still considers everything the Doctor shows her as science fiction. She catches on quick to the things the Doctor shows her and figures out how to ask the right questions when they get into trouble. Or even when they don’t. She may not be the smarted person he could have taken along but she learns, or makes and effort to learn, and understands what she can. Rose tries and that’s a lot of the charm to her being a companion.

Rose also has her moments of pride but knows when to put it aside as well. Earlier on in her travels with the Doctor, she might have been less inclined to do so but the more she travels, the more she’s willing to admit when she’s wrong and apologize for it. She’s a young woman who, despite society in her own time, understands responsibility, right and wrong. It’s especially noticeable in the episode with the Gelth that she respects human life, whether someone is still alive or not. Something that many people don’t really think about.

She’s also witty and can be sharp or sarcastic at times, which could account for why the Ninth Doctor took to her like he did. She was someone who could keep up with him on several levels. Not only that but she doesn’t hold grudges. She’ll forgive things and people who go against her personal beliefs (a Dalek that learned to feel thanks to her DNA, Cassandra when she finally accepted that she was dying, etc.) and that shows her for what kind of a good, kind person she is. Not that she always is. Like anyone who loves someone (and Rose does love the Doctor) she’s prone to jealousy. Thankfully, not violently so as some people can be/are portrayed.

Background: TARDIS wiki - Rose Tyler.

Abilities: She can work a Sonic Screwdriver! And she once held the entire time vortex in her head (BAD WOLF). She can also use a gun (fairly well) and is a gymnast.

First Person: Test drive.

Third Person:

Ruby City. That was classy and nothing like she’d heard of on Earth. Except this wasn’t Earth where she had been, in an over secured high school with one of the Doctor’s former companions while the two had argued over who had better adventures. Thinking on it now, it was ridiculous. Jealousy driving her to find everything and anything to dislike Sarah Jane. It was so stupid now that she thought about it.

This wasn’t Earth. But it had to be. She hadn’t been on the TARDIS and she hadn’t been on Game Station to be teleported anywhere. It hadn’t felt a transmat beam either. That had left her dazed and barely conscious, confused about where she was and with temporary mild amnesia. While she couldn’t remember how she got there, she could remember everything leading up to it. So how had she gotten here?

“Hello?”

That never helped before. Why is she trying it now? It looked like a harmless train station but… She learned when she first met the Doctor that things can look harmless and be very not-harmless. Like mannequins. At least she had a sonic screwdriver? For whatever good that did her here.

CHARACTER
Name: Nickolas Benjamin “Nicko” Heap
Canon: Septimus Heap
Age: 16
Timeline: The end of Syren
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: N/A

Personality: Nicko, despite being one of the Heap family and therefore exposed to magic from a young age is, in fact, rather uninterested in the discipline. The second youngest Heap boy’s love is for boats and sailing and always has been, though he still has the tell-tale bright green eyes of a person who has been exposed to Magyk. He is a bright and determined young man of sixteen with an alarming tendency to rush into things without thinking when his emotions get the better of him, but he can be equally level-headed when the circumstances call for it.

Like all Heaps, Nicko is stubborn and prone to being bull-headed when he has his mind set on something. More often than not easy-going and good-natured he has a practical mind and a wry sense of humour, enjoying a joke as much as the next person. While not immediately trusting he can be swayed by the opinions of those he already has faith in, though it must be noted that in those cases it is more the case that he trusts that person he was already close to has put their own faith in the right place.

Part of a close family, Nicko values trust and loyalty very highly and reacts badly when either of them is broken. He’s closest to his younger brother Septimus, often believing him even when no one else will and jumping to his aid on several occasions over the course of the book series, sometimes putting himself at serious risk in doing so. He doesn’t like to admit that he’s wrong and when he knows he’s right he’ll stick to his guns like a dog with a particularly tasty bone in a way that can sometimes cloud his judgement, but rest assured that his heart is always in the right place.

He has a fear of enclosed spaces, becoming panicky when he feels trapped. This is something he’s able to control for a limited time, though like all fears it will eventually overcome him if it goes on for too long. Nicko doesn’t like to talk about this and will claim to be fine while trying to control his fears, even when he’s clearly not alright.

While not an unkind boy by nature, he does have the capacity to be cruel as much as any person, especially against individuals or groups who have wronged the people he cares about or himself personally. This is shown most clearly in his initial treatment of Boy 412, later revealed to be his brother Septimus Heap, and DomDaniel’s young apprentice Merrin, whom Nicko despises. How he views his eldest brother Simon is also altered drastically when the young man turns to Darke magyk and against their family and friends. While it may seem that he’s fickle, Nicko’s actions are always with the aim of protecting the important people around him. If that means swiftly changing his opinion on a person, for good or ill, then you’re likely to see him do it.

Background: Here!

Abilities: Nicko is an accomplished boat-builder and like all Heaps save his adopted sister Jenna is able to use magyk, though his lack of interest in it means that he is nowhere near as able as his younger brother.

First Person:

[Nicko sits down on the dock outside his small house by the lake and dips his feet into the water, leaning forwards to watch the dark shapes moving beneath. They don’t bother him anymore, though at first the merpeople took violent exception to his deciding to live on the edge of their territory.

With the warm sun beating down on his head he flicks one of his small braids back, tucking it behind his ear and turning towards a block of wood on the dock, a half-finished carving emerging from it like a living thing. He picks up his knife, resuming the quiet task of creating a figurehead for the small, finally finished boat sat floating beside the jetty. It’s not his best work, but it’s all his and he’s proud of it regardless. The little boat sits low and wide in the water, made for safety over speed and sporting a sail made from patches of spare, sturdy cloth pilfered from the clothing store.

The young man smiles, giving a little nod to no one in particular.
]

I still need to think of a name for you. [He muses, rubbing his thumb over one of the fresher cuts in the wood in front of him. He’ll need sandpaper soon, it feels much too rough.]

And I can’t call another boat ‘Muriel’. [He shakes his head, pulling himself up and striding over to the boat, crouching beside her and running his hand along the side.] What about… ‘Cerys’? [Nicko pauses, then grins as the wind gusts and the boat gives a gentle creak.]

I knew you’d like it.

Third Person:

If he was going to sail anywhere, he needed to chart the stars first. The sky here was nothing like back home but he’d managed to draw up some blank charts, one already half completed from the month or so that he had been in this strange place. At least the stars stayed constant, even if everything else sometimes turned completely upside down.

With his eyes feeling gritty and sore from tiredness and spending too long working in light that was too dim for any real progress to be made, Nicko threw himself back onto the grass and let his eyelids drop to half-mast as he idly sucked on the stem of a strand of grass. The puff of seeds at the tip occasionally spiralled into the edge of his vision. Living like this made him think of his four forest-dwelling brothers, though he’d made a point of making sure he didn’t descend into the kinds of habits they did. It wouldn’t suit him, anyway. Nicko just wasn’t built to be lazy.

He frowned as he thought of home. Often, he tried not to. It hurt too much to think of everything that he was missing, even with Septimus here and the assurance that it wasn’t like before and time wasn’t passing while they were gone. Even with those assurances… it didn’t keep him from missing everyone.

He even missed Spit Fyre sometimes.

[CANON] Nico di Angelo || Percy Jackson Series || reserve || 2 of 3

[personal profile] shadowtraveller 2013-12-22 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
At his core, Nico has a big heart, and an inquisitive personality. His sister was his world, and he and she had already been through a lot together by the time he meets Percy, but he doesn't come off as a damaged boy, protecting his heart. He's immediately curious about the demigods and excited to become a part of their lives. He's smart, nerdy, and pretty self-sufficient. He's also a fountain of questions. But that sweetness and innocence are short-lived.

Nico quickly becomes the character in the series who has probably been through the most, and it changes him profoundly. The loss of Bianca affects him deeply. From the point at which she dies, he begins to pull away, but he's unable to find acceptance from his father, and living in Hades, obsessively chasing Bianca's shade, brings him no happiness. Nico tries to be the lone wolf, the dark, brooding hero who doesn't need anyone. But in the end his heart won't allow it. He begins to put away his anger, and reach out again.

But while Nico starts to form friendships once more, he continues to maintain deep walls around himself. He cares about Hazel as a sister (though nothing can supercede Bianca), loves Percy, and grows to care for the rest of the Seven as friends and comrades. He would willingly sacrifice his life for them, and he doesn't want to see them suffer on any level. But at the same time, he believes that he can truly never be one of them, and that if they knew him, really knew him and who he was, that they would hate him. He's aware that most people find him creepy, just generally, and as a child of Hades, the outcast god, he simply doesn't fit in properly with the children of other Olympians. After spending 70 years in the Lotus Hotel, he is a child out of time. And even worse, he's gay, but grew up in the 1930s. On some level, he has internalized the values of that time, and he feels shame and self-loathing for his sexuality.

By the time I have chosen to draw Nico from, while he is kind and caring, he is quiet, brooding, and creepy. He often fades into the background, startling everyone when he suddenly puts some input into the conversation. He's very bright, and knowledgable about Greek and Roman myth. He has a knack for getting into places, including becoming an accepted part of Camp Jupiter and generally seen by the Romans as generally harmless, despite his creepy demeanor and status as a child of Pluto. He's incredibly self-sufficient and resourceful, surviving things that no other person has. But he hasn't come out of it unscathed. Though he is generally calm, if he feels threatened (for example, when Jason found out about his feelings for Percy), he can still react with anger, and will lash out to protect himself, like a cornered animal. He is scarred deeply by his experiences. His time in Tartarus nearly drove him insane.

But I think that's why he's drawn back to spending time with his friends, despite his self-loathing and his fears of rejection. He can't bring himself to isolate himself completely. He needs connection, needs love in his life. So he seeks his father's love, and failing that, he makes connections with a new sister - Hazel - and continues to follow Percy, protecting him when he can, and going to incredible measures to help him without any consideration for his own safety and sanity. He forms friendships with other demigods even though he believes they would hate him if they knew his heart. Because he can't stand to be alone.

Abilities:
Nico is a son of Hades, the Greek God of the Underworld. He can talk to ghosts, and summon the dead to do his bidding. In fact, he has a whole suite of death-related powers, including being able to sense death or people's life auras, control the dead, communicate with nearby spirits by sending out "vibes", or banish the dead. He can also send out a powerful aura of fear that affects the living.

He can enter a Death Trance, that allows him to survive a long period of time without food, water, or even air. With just a handful of pomegranate seeds, he survived in an airless box for over a week, eating just one seed per day to regenerate his strength.

He has the ability to shadow travel, which allows him to travel large distances in a short period of time, by moving from shadow to shadow. This ability is very draining, and he can't do it too much. He also has the ability to travel to the Underworld at will, and move through the Underworld without dying. In a general sense, he can control darkness and shadows in other ways, summoning it and even shaping it into solid shapes.

He has the ability to levitate rocks and turn them into sharp obsidian shards, then throw them at people.

All demigods in this world have ADHD. In the case of demigods in the Percy Jackson universe, what is diagnosed as ADHD is actually extremely powerful reflexes and reaction-time. Compared to regular humans, they seem to have a hard time focusing and sitting still, and this is because of their heightened senses and energy compared to humans. Nico has this ability.

He carries a sword made of stygian iron, which can basically suck the life out of anyone it pierces. And he's pretty good with it. Using this weapon, he can block and control darkness attacks even more than his natural ability to control shadows.

He can speak fluent Italian (because he was born in Italy), English, and ancient Greek (because he's a Greek demigod), as well as reading in all three languages. (As a note, demigods are hardwired to speak and read ancient Greek without being taught. This makes it more difficult for them to read their native tongue, which is often diagnosed as dyslexia).

He's a very good Mythomagic player! Which is a kind of pokemon card game with Greek gods and demigods. In addition to being a cool hobby, he knows a great deal about Greek mythical figures and monsters because of this hobby. He seems to have an encyclopedic knowledge of the cards, which might seem like a photographic memory but is actually just the fact that he's a huge nerd.

First Person:

[At first, the video might not seem to show anything. Dim light and shifting shadows, and then the person holding it comes into focus, as he pulls back and obviously stares at the picture in front of him, first with confusion, then a slight smile. He's got dark hair that is rumpled, as if he just rolled out of bed. Though his skin has an olive tone, he's so pale it looks as if he hasn't seen the sun in many years.]

Oh cool.

[Then his eyes widen and the smile instantly vanishes. His brows come together in an uncertain frown]

Hey wait, can people see me on this thing?

[He abruptly shuts the watch, and everything goes dark. A few moments later, he reappears, his face completely serious and half-hidden in shadow]

Uh…hi. Sorry about that, before. It didn't look like a cellphone, and I didn't realize it was-- [He stops, eyes flicking away for a moment, and he purses his lips, irritated with himself] Anyway, you don't care about that.

I'm looking for some people. You know who you are. Contact me, okay?

[He hesitates for a moment, then shuts the watch again]

Third Person:

Nico was no stranger to weird places. He had spent quite a while in Hades, after all, and even made his way, alone, through the very depths of Tartarus. He had been captured by giants and kept in an airless jar for over a week with nothing to keep him alive but pomegranate seeds.

So unlike many people who came here, he didn't freak out or anything. In fact, he stepped off the train in relatively good possession of his faculties, and spent some time reading posters before moving on.

Even when he left the train station, he kept to the shadows. He saw people, but didn't consider approaching them, at least, not at first. He didn't know what to expect, but the people here, they might be enemies, or they could just be innocent people who wouldn't have answers to any questions. Maybe some of them might be potential friends, but he wasn't exactly comfortable with just walking up to some random person and asking questions.

So he shadow travelled until he knew the layout of the town. In all his travels, he didn't see one monster. Not one demigod, either - at least, none he knew by sight.

But there were a lot of ghosts. He had a few good conversations with them, and that calmed his fears and gave him a better grounding for what to expect.

Finally, when he felt confident, he approached his first actual living person in the city.

"Hi," he said, melting out of the shadows in what was probably a startling way - it wasn't intentional, he was just a bit shy and didn't realize he was hiding as he approached. "I'm new here."
