A note for CR AU applications
Ruby City does allow previous game history/CR to be brought over on a case by case basis. If you want to include this in your application please add additional sections for PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT and PREVIOUS GAME HISTORY beneath the Personality and Background/History sections.

In these additional sections we would like to see a brief outline of your character's previous game history and how it potentially impacted on and altered their canon personality.

CHARACTER
Name: Juniper Woods
Canon: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
Age: 18
Timeline: Post-Dual Destinies

Personality:

Juniper Woods is a very kind girl, and one of the easiest sorts to make friends with. She will always try to greet people with a smile or a hello, if not both. Though she can be a bit of a recluse, especially when it comes to meeting new people, she will do her best to accomodate other people over herself. She values friendship more than anything else in the world, and when she makes friends with someone, she tries her best to keep those friends. She even went as far as wear a friendship bracelet that her friend Robin Newman made for the two of them and their other best friend, Hugh O'Conner. Because of how much she values friendship, she will do whatever she can to keep her friends out of trouble and even from getting into trouble if she can help it, though sometimes her morality will shine through more and she will do what is morally right, though she tends to avoid what is morally wrong because if one of her friends does something that's terrible, she will want to not believe that it could possibly be true.

When it comes to her friends, Juniper tries to do as much for them as she can. As has been shown in canon multiple times, Juniper brings fruits and vegetables that she grows in her garden to give to her friends to show her support for them. She's given her best friend Athena an orange and her other good friend Apollo a lotus root, and gives them knowledge based around them. She also is a major worrywart about her friends when they're in danger, which she has shown for Apollo countless times when he helped save her from getting hurt by shielding her body when debris was falling during an explosion.

The good thing about her kindness is that when others around her are smiling and laughing, it causes her to generally do the same and feel more upbeat and optimistic about things. However there is a major downside to her kindness she tries to show. She's quite naive and can easily be manipulated by those who feign kindness and use her for their own means. She is easily trusting of others which lends more vulnerability to being lied to. She also gets nervous and frightened very easily and can do so when the situation is tense or nerve-wracking for her, or if others around her are also nervous, worried or frightened. Though sometimes she will try to perk others up, it's often difficult for her to be the light at the end of the tunnel. She also emotionally crumples easily under the weight of cruel stares or people just plain being mean to her.

Sometimes, she can put on a brave face and do what is necessary to get things done. Being Student Council President at Themis Legal Academy, Juniper thought it necessary to put aside her usual fright and nervousness with a serious look that would set an example of what all students should be. She can readily accept responsibility and follow directions to near perfection, as long as they are well within the bounds of her physical capabilities. This even caused her to not call her best friend Athena by her nickname 'Thena', in order to keep up the example she was trying to set for the other Academy students.

Juniper is a very outdoorsy person, and enjoys playing in the forest, especially given her home is centered in a forest on top of a mountain. She loves gardening and exploring in the wilderness, and watching the wildlife in the forest or even parks. Though you won't see her picking flowers or messing with nature, as she adores what naturally can grow within the earth's soil.

She is physically frail and has a weak constitution, in that she's unable to stay long in areas with unclean air, and gets her fair share of sicknesses from this. It also spreads to her nervousness and easily being frightened, to where when this is the case she will begin coughing and sometimes get into coughing fits. She always wears sunflowers on her so that she has something to breathe into to calm herself down in case nobody's around to cheer her up. Her coughing, unfortunately, makes it very difficult to get much in the way of speaking out of her, so she doesn't tend to do well in exceedingly tense situations or anywhere where she feels frightened or traumatized, which due to canon exist in a few places.

If there's one thing she's determined to find above all others, however, it is the truth. Juniper, believing that the truth always should come before 'the end justifies the means', is adamant about doing what she can. Because of this, she dislikes it when people lie or deceive others for their own personal gains. She can at least understand when people do so to cover for others since she can't really speak for herself on the matter. In a world where many new law students are trying to justify their trial wins by forging evidence, Juniper is seeking to help dispel this and show that the truth is more important.

Juniper's motivations center around her friends and the truth, though when it comes to a decision between the two she will tend to choose friends, though this has been shown to be questioned as she told on one of her best friends for presumably paying money for good grades, which she deemed much more important than keeping ties with him, though she felt extremely bad for it and refused to admit it later.

Overall, Juniper is someone that's fueled by friendship and will do what she can to help her friends when necessary, though she won't go too terribly far if things are getting well out of hand. She might rely on her friends to keep herself going sometimes, but she can put on a brave face when necessary and stick it through to the end.

Background: Not a whole lot is known about Juniper's past, except that she went to elementary school with Athena Cykes, who she became good friends with because they were both out of school so much. Because of this, Juniper ended up visiting Athena at her home which was located at GYAXA, in the fourth floor Robotics Laboratory. Seven years before the current time, Athena quit coming to school entirely and Juniper visited the Space Museum inside GYAXA often to try and look for her, but she never saw her face to face again for seven long years. They exchanged letters back and forth as Athena had moved to Europe. At that time, the 'Dark Age of the Law' had begun to take shape, and a few years later, Juniper decided she would try to make a difference by becoming a Judge. So at the age of 15, she joined the Themis Legal Academy and began studying in the judge course.

During her third (and presumably final) year in the judge course, at the age of 18, Juniper learned of students going down the dark road and forging evidence and the like. Her mentor and Professor of the Judge Course, Constance Courte, recruited her to tell her when people were going down the dark road so that she could help them. This led to people finding out about it and passing around rumors that there was a 'snitch' among their ranks. She ended up even snitching on one of her best friends, Hugh O'Conner, who was in the lawyer course, for bribing for good grades. She then found Hugh later that night stumbling across the hall from the Art Room with one of his hands dripping with blood, and she refused to tell anyone about it.

Juniper was one of the judges who submitted a mock trial script to be used during the school festival. Hers won out, ultimately, and she was to play the defendant in said mock trial. During the trial, however, it was found that Professor Courte had been murdered and was found on the stage outside the school. As the murder looked like it happened exactly as in Juniper's script (nobody but Juniper and Courte knew the contents of it), she was arrested for the murder. That same day she had met Athena again for the first time in seven years, and Athena took on her defense. That day she also met Phoenix Wright and Apollo Justice, who were also lawyers seeking the truth. Juniper hid a lot of the facts from Athena in fear that Hugh really was the one that murdered Courte (as the only people out and about during the mock trial's seating were Hugh, Juniper and their other best friend, Robin) but on the second day she accepted Professor Means, the other professor that taught the lawyer course, as her defense. Athena, not wanting someone else defending her best friend with 'the end justifies the means' as their motto, worked to find out what was wrong and got the truth out of Junie by proving she was lying to her. Juniper confessed what she knew about Hugh and thanks to this info, Athena was able to get her a not guilty verdict and Professor Means was found to be the actual murderer, having murdered Professor Courte the night before the mock trial and hiding her wrapped up as a statue. It was at the conclusion of this trial that it was found that Juniper had a crush on Apollo.

A couple of months after that, Juniper came to the courthouse to cheer Apollo on and lend her support while he was taking on a case that dealt with the murder of his best friend, Clay Terran. She had brought with her a stuffed animal named Bum Rap Rhiny, who was part of a campaign to eliminate false charges and forged evidence. A bomb was brought in inside a stuffed animal named Phony Phanty, who was the other part of the aforementioned campaign. Unfortunately, somehow it got reactivated and though Juniper tried to flee the courtroom with everyone else, she tripped and fell. Apollo came to her rescue and used his body as a shield, saving her from harm but causing him to get severely wounded. Juniper was then arrested for the courtroom bombing and the murder of Detective Candice Arme, who was found dead in the blown up courtroom. Athena ended up having to go solo defending her until Phoenix Wright came to her rescue, and together they found out the truth about Apollo rescuing Juniper. During the trial Juniper was given special permission to wait in the lobby, where Apollo told her he was going to look for some evidence to clear her name. She had to go back to the courtroom so she left him to his search. Unfortunately after the trial they went to visit Apollo in the destructed courtroom and found his unconscious body with a bloody rock near him. Juniper blamed herself for letting this happen to him and was even more shaken up the second day of court. Phoenix and Athena fought hard and got her a not guilty verdict, however, and she was acquitted of her charges. She then learned later about Apollo taking a leave of absence and still partially blamed herself for all of it.

A few days later, she was visiting the Space Center after Athena got arrested for the murder of Clay Terran (after the previous accused, Solomon Starbuck, was found innocent) and found Phoenix Wright and his adopted daughter Trucy, who questioned her about Athena's past. She told them about Athena living there as a child and everything she knew about her, and said she would be rooting for them.

Afterwards she left the Space Museum and when the trial started for the case, despite her trauma of the courtroom bombing, she sat in the gallery and watched the trial unfold, lending her support to Athena (and Apollo when he showed up later). At the end of it, she was seen speaking to someone about growing peppers in her garden.

A short time afterwards, Juniper found herself in the strange Ruby City, and a few of her friends came along with her. They took one of the houses in the residential area and lived there for many months, until most of them disappeared. Juniper disappeared shortly afterward.

It has been a month since Juniper's visit to Ruby City, and it's like a distant memory to her.

Abilities: The only thing Juniper is accomplished at is gardening. She is currently still finishing up learning how to be a judge at trials.

Re: [canon] Vergil | Devil May Cry | no reserve (reapp)

[personal profile] bloodright 2014-09-24 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: Vergil is very calm and composed, generally showing little emotion aside from his determination. Even if he were truly shocked or afraid, he would make a great effort not to show it. He's very much the opposite of his brother, he doesn't speak unnecessarily, and thinks things through much more than Dante. 'Calculating' is definitely a good word to encompass him. Vergil has quite the high-and-mighty attitude, brushing off any who do not seem worth his time. He brushes off Arkham, who he is supposedly in a sort of partnership with, constantly speaking down to him. He's so hostile, in fact, that in the manga, after first telling him off twice, Vergil kills the librarian who appears along with Arkham. Nevertheless, he does make a few quips, though only after Dante's prompting. Alternatively, to show how much better he is, and how lowly and stupid others are, he definitely wouldn't be above sarcastic remarks.

Vergil has high ambitions and is ruthless in attaining them, entirely willing to sacrifice his own twin for his goals, as well as intending to use Arkham only so long as he's useful and to later kill him. He feels to not seek greater strength is a sign of weakness, and weakness is like a disease, something shameful and disgusting. Several times he openly looks down on Dante for not embracing his demon half and casting aside the human part, nor pursuing further power as he does. Despite his merciless nature, he believes in a sort of warrior's code. Vergil sees attacking an opponent from behind, using guns, or otherwise 'fighting dirty' as unacceptable behaviour. It's unsightly. Everything is built up on pride with him. From combat to appearance, if he can't somehow use it as a tool for condescension, it's no good. He can talk down to people like Dante for looking like a slob while he's prim and proper, his hair and clothes all just-so. He can talk down to people like Dante for using guns, an unpolished fighting style or lack of booksmarts because he would never use a gun, it's barbaric, not something a true warrior would resort to, likewise a true warrior should have complete mastery over his weapons and his own strength, but it shouldn't be just that, physical strength must be coupled with intellectual strength. You can't be perfect in only one area, it's all or nothing.

There are several reasons Vergil is obsessed with strength. One is pure selfishness. He wants his own greatness. Another, the shame of living in his father's shadow. It's a constant for both brothers to be compared to their father, for Vergil this means two things, he's seen as a traitor, and only half as powerful as his father, if even that. He wants to break out of both these misconceptions, prove he can be a great leader among demons, and surpass his father's legend. The next reason is out of guilt for his mother's death. Even though he was only eight years old at the time, he feels gulty for being unable to save her and thinks he should have been able to do so. Along with this, he's ashamed to have ever been weak. He was eight, anyone would be, there's no way a child could have stood up to a horde of demons, but still, his mother was attacked, and he was attacked. They made a fool of him, but he doesn't ever have to be degraded again if he can become more powerful than any other. At one point, he tells Dante, "might controls everything, and without strength you cannot protect anything, let alone yourself".

He does not, in fact, hold great hatred for his brother. Vergil is baffled by Dante's chosen path, they are very different people despite being twins and close during childhood, and it seems their encounters almost always end in a battle due to their vastly differing opinions and personalities. However, at the same time, despite their hostility, if their goals are ever not contrasting, it's even possible for them to work together. Of course, this can change in a splitsecond, but, both brothers care more for eachother than they show. Vergil at times tries to pass this off as disdain, such as when he tells Dante to hurry back to the human world before the gate closes and traps him in Hell. He tries to make it sound like he thinks Dante wouldn't be able to handle it, but really it's his own pride in not accepting help after losing a fight and concern for his brother's safety. There are multiple times Vergil very well could have killed his twin, and even acts as if he had intended to, but leaves him alive, and only wounded enough to incapacitate him for a few moments to get away.
Though he would deny it, he has some sentimentality. But that's something only humans feel, certainly not demons, it's a sign of weakness. So he'll try his best to cover it up, and to cast it aside. In fact, every bit of his humanity is something he wishes to be rid of, and makes great efforts to act as if he lacks. And while it does seem as if he has entirely forsaken and rid himself of it, that isn't true. It's only seen in small doses which would otherwise appear to be simple mistakes or even condescension, but it's definitely there. In addition, as Nelo Angelo he seems to feel great pain whenever he spots Dante's amulet and is reminded of who he is. This is probably largely due to anger over being controlled, but it's undeniable that another important factor is remembering how things used to be, and not wishing to fight his brother.

Background: Here and here

Abilities: As Vergil is half-demon, he has superhuman strength, speed and regenerative powers. He is also able to transform into his demon form. Vergil generally fights with his sword, Yamato, in addition, in DMC3 he uses summoned swords and a pair of gauntlets and greaves along with his father's sword. As Nelo Angelo, his default weapon is a zweihander, while he is also shown to use gauntlets and greaves that seem to be Beowulf, summoned swords and blasts of energy from his fists (SO COOL AND SHOUNEN!!!1!).

Yamato
A devil arm once used by his father and gifted to him on his eighth birthday. Used in conjunction with its sheath, in more ways than one. He uses both to attack in the Iaido style, but more importantly, he is able to 'slice the air' with the sword, sending the impact to his opponent. It often seems attacks from Yamato are delayed, more often than not showing the injury taking place after the sword is sheathed. This is actually proof of his incredible speed, Vergil does all this before it can be fully realised by the human eye.

Beowulf
A pair of gauntlets and greaves. They come with 'spikes', or 'claws' on the ends, to pack a more forceful punch (or kick, as the case may be) and is light-based. It's the soul of a demon he defeated, contained within the weapon, though it has no life in itself. This really only means it is embued with the power of the demon.

Devil Trigger
His true demon form. This increases all attributes, though it's something which takes greater concentration and use of demonic energy(basically MP). His Devil Trigger is somewhat different depending on the chosen weapon, but it's really just an extreme power up in any case. For a half-demon, it's too difficult to hold for a long period of time. It releases their full demonic potential, though at the cost of exertion. On the other hand, it does restore health, so the loss of energy can be very much worth it. It also basically makes him move at the speed of sound. Okay not that fast, but it's like someone hit fastforward.
Nelo Angelo is a corrupted and permanent Devil Trigger under Mundus' control. It can be assumed to have left him when he died, and was discarded by Mundus.

Force Edge
This sword, man. It's basically all of Sparda's demon power put into a sword, so suffice to say, it's pretty strong. All the badguys want it. It also happened to be part of the seal to the demon world. In DMC3 at least, in DMC4 it was Yamato, but Capcom+DMC+timelines=clusterfuck of contradictions, so sometimes we just pretend things didn't happen. When using the Force Edge, Vergil still uses Yamato as well, it replaces the sheath to fight with TWO DAMN SWORDS.

Summoned Swords
Personally I think they look like the Force Edge, but DMC4 has them associated with the Yamato in that they're able to be summoned when Yamato is in use. And then there's DMC1 where Nelo Angelo uses them while having access to neither. So I guess they're just a thing Vergil can do somehow. Either way, they're phantom swords which can be shot at enemies or circle around Vergil to be used as a sort of barrier. Like Devil Trigger, using them as a barrier takes up demonic energy/MP.

Zweihander
Seems to act like Dante's Rebellion for the most part. Big ol' two-hander. Not a lot to say here.

In addition, as he is a demon, if only half, his strength, speed and natural healing powers are incredible. Even while Dante is considered to be incredibly talented and powerful, Vergil is generally considered to be the better swordsman and more trained of the two. He beats Dante two out of three times, after all. He is noted to have particular skill in appearing to teleport from his great speed. Though never shown with Vergil himself, Dante is time and time again run through with his own sword (like, it's a running joke, it happens 24/7 and he just pulls himself right off it), or shot between the eyes (digs it on out of there and keeps having a conversation), as they're twins, it isn't any stretch at all to assume Vergil is just the same.

As far as what he would have on him coming in, just the zweihander and Beowulf for physical weapons, along with his abilities, of course.

First Person: Here

Third Person: Vergil wandered the streets of Ruby City after stepping off the train. He was still dazed, having spent years under Mundus' control. For him this included a distinct lack of a blue coat. Normally the weather would have affected him very little, but in his weakened state he felt the chill. And the sword at his side one rather unfamiliar. He vaguely remembered wielding such a sword when the corruption controlled him, but had no recollection of it otherwise. It wasn't his sword, not Yamato, and he had to find it.

Being free of his forced obedience was practically a miracle, even if it came at the cost of losing a fight to Dante. But he thought he died then. How, then, is it he found himself stepping off the train to an unknown city? He noted the lack of demons. He could feel some presence, but nothing like that of his own world. Merely a few inhabitants, as opposed to cities with a near-infestation. Then again, his senses may have dulled.

He cursed under his breath. He was a great demon, how could he become so pathetic? A warrior such as himself should answer to no one, and yet, he did, and now he was without his most precious posessions, and lacking in strength. He hated it. With that anger boiling in him, a nearby streetlight soon met with his blade and fell into the street behind him. He had to find the Yamato. His amulet. ...Maybe a coat.

Spotting the clocktower, he knew immediately it would be the best place to stay a while and observe. A good place to find the other demons without being found himself.

CHARACTER
Name: Black Rock Shooter
Canon: Black Rock Shooter (2012 TV Anime)
Age: Hard to tell -- she looks to be in her late teens and speaks and carries herself with the maturity of an older woman. Given what she is, however, she likely started existing when Mato was born (Yuu asserts that she's existed at least since Mato was a toddler), so she's likely around fourteen or fifteen.
Timeline: Post-Canon
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: N/A

Personality: The first and most important thing you need to understand about Black Rock Shooter is that she's not human. She looks human, moves like a human, and for the most part, sounds like a human -- but she's not. She's an outsider looking in and her understanding of humanity and its feelings is painfully limited -- she is, after all, the manifestation of the more... extreme parts of a fourteen year old girl's psyche.
She speaks in short, rather brisk sentences and generally gives the appearance of being unused to interacting with anyone outside of trying to embed swords in faces. She's blunt and often says or does things without understanding that they're inappropriate for the situation she's in. Life in the otherworld doesn't have many opportunity for real interaction, so outside of fights to the near-death and so the subtleties of human emotion escape her somewhat -- while she's able to recognize that someone might be angry or upset, and recognize what caused that, she has no idea why the event would cause them to feel that way -- she's very much an outsider looking in, and she's yet to work out a way of becoming more than that -- or even if she wants to at all.

As with emotion, most of the other subtleties of social interaction fly right over Shooter's head; when it comes to things like humor and metaphor, she's totally lost -- she takes them, along with sarcasm and exagerration, at face value. Similarly, she's rather childlike in her understanding of lies and deception. Life in the otherworld is very black and while (no pun intended) and as such, doesn't really 'get' why someone would lie or mislead someone. Because of this, she's a bit naieve and can be quite easily mislead herself. She'll believe anything that anyone tells her, without even pausing to consider that it may be a lie.

On top of this, Shooter herself claims to be 'emotionless' but that's clearly not the case -- while it's true that she's pretty linefaced most of the time and her lack of any kind of dialogue until the finale makes it hard to tell what she's thinking, she openly shows expressions of fear, anger, determination, pain, contempt during her time in the other world, among other things -- and upon killing Dead Master, a combination of Mato's grief and rage makes her transform into Insane Black Rock Shooter, who absolutely oozes contempt and sass with every slightest facial twitch -- when she's not grinning manaically or baring her teeth in rage.

She's also determined to the point of single-minded stubbornness and tunnel vision -- when she has a goal in mind, she will literally cross the world on foot to reach that goal and will not hesitate to throw herself into battle against the Otherselves she encounters. As a fighter, Shooter is brutal and ruthless and shows little mercy for her enemies -- the only time we see a sliver of this is when she finds Dead Master in Chariot's world and seems to attempt to reach out to her, before the reunion is crashed by Chariot herself and Shooter is forced to kill her -- and eventually, Dead Master.

But despite this, what ultimately drives her actions is compassion -- Mato's compassion and arguably, her own. Shooter does what she does out of a desire to help others through their pain, to end their pain -- it's just that the only way she knows of doing so is killing their Otherselves and making them forget that pain and whatever caused it. And according to Shooter herself, this desire to end pain and help other through their pain is motivated entirely by love for her otherself.

Because of this, it's hard to discuss Shooter and her motivations without mentioning Mato to some degree, because Shooter, essentially, is Mato -- and yet at the same time, she isn't. She's a hyper-exagerrated version of Mato's strongest thoughts and feelings -- the desire to save others from their own pain. And if 'Yuu' is to be believed, Shooter has existed at least since she and Mato were toddlers, which means that this is a mindset Mato -- and therefore Shooter -- have had since birth.

But for all her inhumanity, Shooter is not incapable of growth and warmth -- again, despite her claims that she and the Otherselves have no emotions, she herself states that her actions are motivated by love for Mato and her transition into the berserk Insane Black Rock Shooter is spurred as a reaction to Mato's anguish over killing Dead Master (who Mato percieved as Yomi). The best example of this, however, if at the very end of the series, when Black Rock Shooter encounters the revived Strength and instead of attacking her on sight as she had done previously, she hangs back and the two quietly acknowledge each other.

And that's, perhaps, the most important part of Shooter -- her potential for growth. Being as she is a part of Mato's psyche, she is limited only by Mato's limits -- which means that Shooter has the potential to become vastly more than the sum of her parts should she let herself do so.

Abilities: Coming as she is from a world where fighting to the death is literally the only way of life, Black Rock Shooter is an experienced fighter with incredible combat ability. She's speedy, powerful and athletic, strong enough that she can engage in battles with mechas that are easily ten times her size and come out on top (though not without a few injuries) and can dart around the battlefield with ease.
She's far stronger than an ordinary human and far more durable. Her giant cannon, which is her main weapon, doesn't seem to weight much, if anything to her and she walks away from being gored in the stomach by a cluster of huge drills (in a display that makes literal fountains of blood gush out of her) without so much as a scratch to tell the tale. She has some kind of regenerative ability -- something inherant to all Otherselves, who will, when killed, come back to life so long as their human counterparts remain.

Shooter is fast. She's able to outrun a mecha in canon that was going at ridiculous speeds, which suggests to me that she's probably able to run at similarly ridiculous speeds. She also has much better mobility when transformed, enabling her to jump to ridiculous heights, spar in close combat with the Otherselves and generally makes her much more graceful.

Her main weapon is a black sword that's sheathed to her hip at all times. She also has the ability to summon a cannon that fires rounds of glowing, flaming blue metal and is able to shift between

First Person: [ here! ]

Third Person: Shooter didn't like the city. It was too loud, too chaotic. There were people everywhere, people everywhere she turned, people people people, talking, yelling, laughing, crying -- too many to count, too many to watch any of them for more than a few seconds at a time. Shooter was used to quiet and solitude, to few companions and even fewer words. The world she knew was expansive and quiet, cold and airy. The city was hot and claustrophobic, pressing in on all sides and she could find little escape from all the noise, no matter where she went.

The ocean was the only place that Shooter felt anywhere close to safe and content. It was cool and airy and the noise of the city didn't seem to be as loud here. The ocean did not roar, it whispered and the cobalt blue of the waves reminded Shooter of the otherworld. The breeze was chilly here and the heat didn't sting as intensely.

So when the city became too enclosing, when she felt as though she could not breath, Shooter went to the beach. She sat on the hot sand and watched the rolling waves melt into the perfect line of blue on the horizon.
