A note for CR AU applications
Ruby City does allow previous game history/CR to be brought over on a case by case basis. If you want to include this in your application please add additional sections for PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT and PREVIOUS GAME HISTORY beneath the Personality and Background/History sections.

In these additional sections we would like to see a brief outline of your character's previous game history and how it potentially impacted on and altered their canon personality.

CHARACTER
Name: The Doctor
Canon: Doctor Who
Age: Unknown, claims to be about 1200 years old, looks about 27
Timeline: Series 7, at the end of “The Name Of The Doctor”, after having reached Clara in his timestream
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: N/A

Personality:

The Doctor can be best described as quirky. He leaves no doubt about the fact that he is a mad man with a box, travelling time and space for fun. But that is just the outer layer of his personality and there clearly is more to him than meets the eye. Being an ancient alien, he has seen vast parts of the universe and is therefore very knowledgeable about the workings of not only Earth but most other worlds in existence, too.

As his name “Doctor”, which he chose for himself, indicates he wants to make people better, to help them and while he claims to not interfere with the locals’ problems during his visits, he throws those good intentions right out of the window upon seeing a child cry. Generally his most defining quality can be said to be his kindness, as his companions Amy and Clara have pointed out. While he tries to help people though, there are times when he instead unwittingly makes things worse, like when he helped restore the Daleks or when he encounters fixed points in time and tries to stop them from happening. He knows best that fixed points in time cannot be changed, but sometimes he bends the rules just a bit anyway, as he did when he gave River Song his sonic screwdriver to enable his earlier incarnation to save her as data on a computer, when she sacrificed herself to save his life.

As River, who effectively is his wife, points out, he is not fond of goodbyes, which is the reason he never visited her after her “saving” and also why he usually does not come back to see his companions age once he has left them behind. If he would, it just would remind him of his own loneliness and the fact that while they age and eventually die, he just lives on and cannot possibly grow old with any of them. His loneliness is also a result of the Time War, during which he committed genocide on his own species, the Time Lords, just to end the war, which made him the last of his kind.

The Doctor is furthermore very protective of his travelling companions, as they are the only family he has. He needs them, as he once said himself, to see the beauty of the universe, since he is so old and has witnessed so much pain and sadness that he is not able to really appreciate and marvel at the wonders of the universe anymore. (“When you make all of time and space your backyard, all you have is a yard.”) He also needs his companions to keep him grounded, since he sometimes overdoes things in a fit of rage and needs someone to stay close to him and tell him when to stop. While sometimes the situation may call for a much more careful evaluation, he, just like his former incarnation, likes to stop and marvel at alien life forms or mechanisms he never encountered before and occasionally needs to be reminded of their prospective danger.

This however is not the only part of him that tends to surprise people when they first meet him. He has the rather unusual tendency to act rather helpless when being kissed unexpectedly, such as when Amy Pond kissed him or when he shared his first kiss with later wife River Song. As the brief , admittedly unreciprocated, encounter with Amy shows, he is mostly rather slow to notice that someone is interested in him, as he fails to notice her flirting right until she kisses him. Nevertheless he clearly enjoys to constantly flirt with River Song whenever their paths cross and never fails to notice it, which shows that his ability to recognize romantic feelings towards his own person depends on whether he returns them or not.

The Doctor’s eleventh incarnation is furthermore widely known to kiss more people than any other before. As a result he has kissed or been kissed by all of his companions and even kissed non-companions such as Jenny. The kiss with Jenny or even with Amy’s husband Rory however is no indication of romantic feelings, but rather as an affectionate display of friendship and, in both instances, to celebrate being alive or as a means to express his thankfulness towards the respective other person. It can generally be noted that the Doctor does neither seem to care about human concepts such as “straight” or “gay” nor being labeled as either, which can be noticed in his encounters with Craig. The two of them whilst on an outing with Craig’s infant son Alfie constantly get mistaken for a gay couple and later when they come across a group of Cybermen, one of the Doctor’s most prominent enemies, the Doctor attempts to kiss Craig and passionately declares his love for the man, just to distract him from the fact that they are surrounded by the enemy. The latter of course is an action of the Doctor’s which clearly shows his unyielding caring for his companions and friends.

Another of the Doctor’s quirks can be said to be his dress sense. He mostly dresses in tweed jackets along with braces and bow ties, the latter of which he constantly describes as cool and is generally very proud of. After he lost long term companions Amy and Rory one could notice that he did not wear his usual bowtie while mourning for them in Victorian London. When he left his temporary retirement to solve the riddle presented to him by his new companion Clara’s mere existence, he changed back to wear his bow tie but now combined it with a three piece suit, which showed his maturing process triggered by the loss of Amy and Rory on the outside. The Doctor also harbors a fondness for all kinds of hats, as he can be seen to wear a fez (which he also claims is cool), a Stetson and a top hat whenever the occasion should arise.

{[CANON] The Doctor (XI) || Doctor Who || Reserved || 2/2}

[personal profile] gallifreytotrenzalore 2013-08-11 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Background: http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/The_Doctor

Abilities:

As a Time Lord the Doctor has the ability to regenerate upon being fatally wounded, during which all cells in his body heal themselves and as a result he has a completely different body, i.e. looks different afterwards. His biology is also different from that of humans as he has two hearts, which enable him to survive situations that would kill other species, such as lack of oxygen.

He owns a dimensionally transcendent (i.e. bigger on the inside) space ship called the TARDIS (Time And Relative Dimensions In Space), with which he is able to travel anywhere in time and space and which is permanently stuck to look like a 1963 police box. The TARDIS is sentient and makes conscious decisions on her own, most notably bringing the Doctor where he is needed rather than where he wants to go. He also uses a sonic screwdriver, a device which can open nearly any lock, scan individuals and objects and do many more things. The only thing it does not do is wood, i.e. it cannot open doors made of wood and would be absolutely useless against enemies made from wood.

As a 1200 year old alien, the Doctor holds great amounts of knowledge about different species, planets, technology and even simple things like pop culture and literature. He also is rather able when it comes to taking care of children, as he speaks ‘Baby’ along a lot of other languages, and is good at connecting to them on an emotional level.

While not exactly an ability, the Doctor furthermore possesses huge amounts of charisma, which enable him to get away with lots of things others could not, since people tend to trust him more easily.

First Person:

[A man in a tweed suit can be seen sitting on one of the cabin’s benches. He seems to have fallen asleep briefly. When the train takes a sudden turn, he wakes suddenly and rapidly rises from his seat, turning on the spot a couple of times as he takes in his surroundings, looking more than irritated. He stops at one of the windows to marvel at the world outside and seemingly forgets everything else for a long moment. A grin passes his face, but disappears rather quickly again.]

Why, this place is marvelous, but …

[He stops, takes a moment to think.]

I am forgetting something. Something important. Something obvious.
How did I get here? What was I doing before … ?

[He ruffles his hair and pinches his nose, closing his eyes and seemingly focusing on his thoughts. When he opens them again, he slaps his own forehead.]

Oh no … Clara?

[The man calls out, under his breath, looking both worried and confused, as he turns around once more.]

Clara!?

[He drops to his knees to look for ‘Clara’ underneath one of the benches and ruffles his hair in an agitated manner again as he gets up once more.]

Where … is this? This … Where am I?

[Still looking confused and more than a bit lost, he scratches his chin, walking up and down the aisle between the benches, clearly lost in thought. Then he suddenly spots a big blue box, standing outside the cabin next to the exit and hurries towards it.]

I will find you, Clara, just wait.

[And with that he disappears inside the box.]

Third Person:

The Doctor could not wrap his mind around what just must have happened. He did not remember anything happening at all. And that was more than a bit worrying. These things never happened to him, they happened to his companions. Well, he said never. More like rarely. Anyway.

He just had been hugging Clara; that was what he was certain of. He had found her after following her into the time stream. After bidding his goodbye to … Never mind, he could not think of her now. No, he had to focus. Focus on Clara. She had rescued him, saved him from dying all those deaths that never happened, thankfully.

Just where was she? And where was he, now that he thought about it. He was certain that he had never seen this train before in his life, so it could not possibly be a location in his time stream. Visiting his future before it happened? No, that was impossible, he was sure of that much.

He scratched his chin in wonder, leaning back against the bench. And just as he was making up what surely would develop into a clever little plan, he absentmindedly rummaged the pockets of his jacket. He got out a pocket watch he had never seen before. He sonic-ed it and looked at the result. It was inconclusive and did not match any readings he had ever had, so it could hardly be human-made or even Gallifreyan.

Taking in his surroundings once more, he noticed that the train had reached its destination. He straightened his bow tie, pocketed the freshly obtained watch and got up, with that strange tingling excitement in his stomach, which could only mean one thing: It was time to go out and poke everything unusual with a stick.

CHARACTER
Name: Pearl Fey
Canon: Ace Attorney
Age: 8
Timeline: A little after case 2-4 ("Farewell, My Turnabout") wraps up.
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: N/A!

Personality: Talking to Pearl Fey long enough to get an impression of her can be a challenge at first; at the most extreme end of things, strange adults approaching her when she's on her own are likely to be met with the little girl running away without even saying a word. This isn't only due to the fact that Pearl is a little shy around strangers; she was raised by her strict, overbearing and overprotective mother to run away from any strangers that looked "suspicious", and as Pearl never even left her small mountain village before she was eight years old, "suspicious" can stretch as far as meaning "anyone who isn't wearing the clothing of a Kurain Technique Spirit Medium".

When she does stop for long enough to hold a conversation with someone, though, she's polite, cheerful, and easy to talk to, despite having what Phoenix refers to as a "refined" manner of speaking for someone of her age. Despite her refined speech, however, her sheltered upbringing shows, and quickly. Although a bright, precocious young girl who is eager to learn, Pearl really knows very little about the world outside of spirit channelling and her village - various concepts such as railways and lawyers, for instance, have to be explained to her, and even then, Pearl tends to view everything through the lens of the world of spirit channelling. For example, she refers to Mia Fey, her deceased cousin, as Phoenix's "Master of Lawyers", because the hierarchy in Kurain Village is structured with the current Master of the technique at the top of the proverbial pyramid.

Naturally, being brought up immersed in the traditions and culture of the Kurain technique has had a great influence on Pearl's development. Pearl is a spirit channelling prodigy, with raw spiritual power that far exceeds her cousin and current heir to the Master's seat Maya's. She is often referred to as the "pride of the branch family", although Pearl herself admits that she doesn't really know what this means. Her days spent training in the Kurain technique, not to mention her mother's sternness, have made Pearl rather disciplined for her young age; she works hard at what she does, and expects those around her to do the same. That's not to say that Pearl is incapable of having fun, though. She plays just as hard as she works in the way that only kids can; it's only that she understands that working hard is important, and will gladly do so when she has to.

As mentioned, Pearl is a precocious child. Once she's in the company of those she feels she can trust, she will happily ask questions about the conversation, or about what's going on around her. In addition, Pearl can be remarkably perceptive, making remarks or observations that the adults around her sometimes miss. Pearl also has no compunctions about speaking her mind. If she dislikes or disapproves of something, she has no problems making her opinion known, or even giving the adults around her a good scolding - sometimes with physical force. Phoenix in particular is often on the receiving end of one of Pearl's fierce lectures. However, for all her intelligence and even her relative maturity for her age, Pearl is in many ways still very much a child. She's prone to emotionally jumping to conclusions before she can let her sharp mind consider all the facts, and her sheltered upbringing has made her incredibly naive, even for an eight year old. Because of this naivety and her naturally trusting nature, she can be prone to be tricked or used by the unscrupulous - including her own mother, who plots to usurp Maya from the line of succession by whatever means she deems necessary in order to put Pearl in the Master's seat.

Beyond her naivety, Pearl also still deals with her emotions in the way you'd expect from someone her age - she bursts into floods of tears when something upsets her, shouts when she gets mad, and literally bounces with joy or excitement when something good happens. However, Pearl also has a great deal of inner strength; she goes through a lot during the course of the games, ranging all the way to having to deal with the details of the cases that Phoenix takes on, witnessing her cousin be put into situations like being kidnapped or accused of murder, or having to deal with the true manipulative and cruel nature of her own mother. However, Pearl weathers these events with astonishing resilience, and although it may take some time, always manages to bounce back from these events, not least thanks to the support she has in Phoenix and Maya.

Something that can't be overlooked when describing Pearl Fey is this: she's a shipper. No, really. Pearl has very romantic, idealistic ideas about love, and is especially fixated on the idea of Maya and Phoenix being a couple. Not even the pair's own frequent attempts to discourage Pearl's convictions seem to have any effect, and Pearl often tries to push the two closer together, even getting indignant on Maya's behalf if she thinks Nick is looking at other girls. It's a little cute, a little hilarious, and a little exasperating, but this trait of Pearl's has sad roots. In fact, the reason she's so adamant about the idea of Phoenix and Maya as a couple is that Kurain Village has an astonishingly high divorce rate due to the matriarchal structure of Kurain society. Pearl's own father - her mother's second marriage - left while Pearl was still very young. Pearl, therefore, desperately wants to see a functional, stable relationship with a happy ending, particularly for her beloved cousin Maya. Maya, in fact, is probably the most important person to Pearl - she absolutely adores her cousin and admires her greatly, even seeing her as more of a sister than a cousin and describing Maya as "all that I have left in this world". At the heart of everything, you could say that Pearl's family are the most important thing in the world to her, and though she may be very small, she will fight tooth and nail to defend it until the very end.

[CANON] ELIZABETH || Bioshock: Infinite || no reserve || 2 of ?

[personal profile] beunbroken 2013-08-16 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: Elizabeth is a bird, caged for 19 years, and finally able to fly free. During her imprisonment, Elizabeth had no contact with a living human, and learned about life through books. As such, she is naive to the ways of the world and people, though she's proven to be a quick learner. In just a few hours out of her apartment, she's done more than she's ever done in her life.

Idealistic, Elizabeth reacts negatively to violence, especially when it surrounds her. The idea of war, senseless slaughter, is terrifying, and a very distant idea, though it's become all too near to her lately, especially when she realizes that much slaughter has been carried out in her name, under the orders of her father, the prophet Zachary Comstock. Luckily, Elizabeth has no intentions of following in his footsteps, or claiming any loyalty to him and his jingoistic ways.

An intelligent young woman, Elizabeth's humor tends to err on the side of sarcastic and, having never been around people before, does not understand many cultural cues. She'll call people out on nearly anything she sees fit, though she's determined not to take too much of her new freedom seriously. She's eager to explore the world, now that she has access to it.

Once Elizabeth has set her mind to something, she won't' stop until she gets it. She's extremely determined and resilient, much like her father. She can compartmentalize with ease, putting aside things that bother her in order to move forward in order to attack her goals.

Due to her lack of experience in the world, Elizabeth is reckless. She's learned from books, where heroes often charge into battle without thinking things through, and very rarely seem to suffer for it. She models herself after them, doing whatever she sees fit, ignoring the entire concept of consequences all together.

Finally, Elizabeth is a very caring young woman. She has a maternal instinct that has never been nurtured, and holds great value for human life. She's sympathetic to the struggles of the people, believing in fair treatment and equality. Despite her father's careful planning, Elizabeth is determined to become nothing like him. Unfortunately, there's really no such thing as free-will. What has happened will happen again.

Like all people, Elizabeth has her own set of fears. She fears Songbird, the giant mechanical bird that has been her only companion in her tower, she fears the thought of being taken back to Comstock and would rather face death than be used by him. She hates bees, and injustice, and the idea of cages, metaphorical or literal. But she doesn't let fear hold her back. Instead, Elizabeth sprints full-speed ahead, eager to learn and experience new things, no matter what the danger. Because what could be better than living after living in a tower for 19 years?

CHARACTER
Name: Roxy Lalonde
Canon: Homestuck
Age: 16
Timeline: current with canon (in a derse jail, making perfectly generic objects)

Personality: In a lot of ways, Roxy is a typical teenage girl. She likes cute boys, pink, her BFF, and kittens. Specifically, cloning them.

Wait, what?

Yeah, add to that an interest in technology and science. She's an ace hacker, and can remotely access Dirk's robots and program windows to think with portals. She's a gamer with a preference for the classics. And she's also excellent at ectobiology. She experimented with cloning her cat, and ended up with a bunch of mutant kittens at first; she got the hang of it eventually, but she keeps the kittens preserved and on display because they're totes adorbs.

She's talkative and flirty, even though she's surrounted* with inelegible* fuckin bachelors. (Yeah, did I mention she types like shit? Not so much when she's sober these days, but she still has a general disregard for spelling and fixing typos.) She's outgoing and extroverted, and will strike up a conversation with just about anyone.

Her best friend is Jane Crocker, and you can tell three very important things about Roxy from their friendship. First off, she's loyal as anything-- both girls are crushing on Jake, but Roxy considers him to be off limits because of her affection for Jane. She feels awful when she accidentally comes close to spilling the beans to him, and when she finds out about Dirk's probable plan to confess his own crush (yeah for a sixteen year old dork Jake is pretty popular), her first thought is Jane, not herself.

Second of all, Roxy can be pretty sneaky and ruthless when she wants to be. She sends Jane a fake copy of the SBurb alpha rigged to explode to convince her that the game is bad news-- essentially, lying to make Jane see the truth. It's because of loyalty, sure, but it's not the most sensible, reasoned plan.

Third of all, Roxy is very, very lonely. She's alone in her house besides her cats, has no romantic prospects to speak of, and her best friend doesn't believe her when she tells the truth about her life. She's almost stopped even trying to convince her, because what's the point? She'd rather have a best friend than not, and it hurts too much to keep getting shot down. So she's the silly drunkie who talks about boys and swears a lot, but when push comes to shove, she will not let go of that batterwitch thing, because it's important, and because if nothing else, at least she can save her best friend.

And then there's Dirk. Roxy might have a bit of an innocent crush on Jake, but she is head-over-heels for Dirk. This is bad news for pretty much everyone, because while Dirk loves Roxy as a friend, he has zero attraction to her. Roxy is pretty pushy with him, telling him about her feelings pretty much every day; she does honestly love him, but she's also lonely and needy and desperate for human contact. Later on she does admit that it was a shitty thing for her to do-- it's not that she has a complete disregard for other people's feelings, it's just that her own tend to take precedence when she doesn't take the time to stop and think about how she's treating other people.

On the other hand, though, she has the ability to be very generous and thoughtful. She uses her appearifier to materialize pumpkins to feed the citizens of her world, seeming to feel almost motherly towards them-- she's concerned that they aren't able to feed themselves, and takes that task upon herself even though it's often dangerous to venture outside.

And then there's her alcoholism. At first she treats it as her just being a fun + flirty party girl havin a few drinks cuz its totes fun, but it actually is a real problem. It's partially to try and connect with her absent mother, and partially a crutch to deal with her loneliness, and when she makes the decision to quit it's a real struggle for her-- something she doesn't admit lightly.

Background: wiki link

Abilities: + accomplished hacker and geneticist
+ the standard god tier immortality-- the only way she can die is if the death is just or heroic
+ her title of Rogue of Void, through a twisty sort of logic, gives her the ability to appearify anything by stealing the nothingness from it. As it stands now she's not very good at it, and the only thing she can appearify are perfectly generic objects (green cubes).

First Person: [ The video clicks on to show a teenage girl from a very unflattering angle. It seems she was holding the communicator on her lap to fiddle with, and turned the video on in such a way that you have a great view of her nostrils. She realizes her mistake, and quickly brings it up to eye level, flashing a grin ]

Yo, for real, that's basically a universal constant for camera phones, right? Even, like, eighteenth century camera phones or whatever the hell this is. I can't find the wi-fi settings but it looks like this is on now, so I hope you guys can see this.

[ she bites her lip a bit, thinking ]

I mean, specifically Jane slash Dirk slash Jake slash someone who's not gonna slice me up into totally awful-tasting Rolal sushi, but I guess I'll take what I can get. I am just so happy to be somewhere not some creepy-ass prison, you have no idea. I might gotta turn this off to get replies, I dunno yet, so see ya!

[ video end ]

Third Person: At first, she thought it was a hangover. She had that same misty recollection followed by amnesia followed by sun that was way too goddamn bright to exist, and she groaned, half in expectation of the headache and nausea to come, half in the dismal realization that she'd fallen off the wagon and didn't even remember the fun part.

Then the last of the fog cleared, and pieces started falling into place. The sun was bright because she'd spent the last few days in prison; the misty recollection was because... well, who the hell knows, but whatever kinda wizard magykk had abracadabra'd her out of that dank-ass dog-girl's appearifying funhouse of a prison was probably responsible. She wasn't going to question it too much; instead, she pumped the air and yelled "Suck it, batterwitch!"

Rubbing her hands together, she started walking through the early-morning emptiness of the city. It didn't look like any of the planets in the medium, and it sure as hell didn't look like where she'd been before everything went to dog poo, but she'd been in enough freaky places recently that she was going to take care of some basic needs before getting suspicious. Step one: some actually edible breakfast. Yeah. Something way better than hopefully nibbling on a green block in hopes that this one came out chocolate. Step two: find Dirk, or Jane, or Jake, or all three, or any combination thereof. Step three, and the one she was looking forward to the most: time to gird some loins and go punch sea hitler in the face.

His connection with Veda, the supercomputer that governs the world and his position as one of Celestial Being's Gundam Meisters has given him a gargantuan sense of pride in both himself and his abilities. Despite his responsibility for maintaining the safety of the mission by constantly analysing both the crew around him and his fellow Meisters, he has poor skills in connecting with other people.

However, as events progressed throughout Season 1, his ego definitely took some knocks. From nearly losing several battles to having his connection severed with Veda, Tieria soon found out the hard way that he was programmed for humility. Having found the need to re-evaluate his life and purpose, he turned to the people around him for support - and they gave it to him. His faith both in humanity and in his comrades grew. In particular, the bond between him and his fellow Meisters became stronger, and above all, it was Lockon Stratos that he placed his newfound faith in.

This was a mistake.

As the fight with the United Nations drew to a climax and Celestial Being found it harder and harder to hold their own against them, a critical blow was dealt. Lockon was killed after going into battle injured despite Tieria's protests, and it devastated Tieria and his comrades. Going into the last battle with only the thought of avenging Lockon's death to spur him on, he fought recklessly and eventually his Gundam was destroyed. As he lay drifting in space, he accepted his death calmly, and blacked out.

In canon, he's rather disappointed to wake up and find he's not dead, as he'd been hoping to see Lockon again. The chances are, he's not going to be too impressed with Ruby City either, unless he can find Lockon, of course. His demeanour as of his arrival will probably be both gloomy and confused, because this definitely wasn't what he was expecting from the afterlife. He'll be aloof and distrusting - but he will eventually warm up to the others that have found themselves here, and hopefully find a new purpose in life.

Generally speaking, Tieria dislikes anyone who doesn't listen to him or take him seriously, and you'll have a hard time earning his respect. However, if this miraculous feat is somehow accomplished, he will follow you to the ends of the earth. This is not something to be sniffed at, as even though his skill with computers will be largely wasted at Ruby City, he is still a Gundam Meister. This means that he is an elite paramilitary-trained pilot, fighter and field operative, and while he lacks the inspired finesse of Sumeragi Li Noriega, he can still perform as a capable tactician and commander.

Background: A wiki link for convenience.

Abilities: Most of his abilities will be irrelevant in Ruby City, as they primarily concern his nature as an Innovade - that is, a genetically engineered humanoid that was created to advance humanity's colonisation of space. He will not have access to Veda or to his Gundam, so his use of Quantum Brainwaves will be limited. However, if there are any other beings in Ruby City of a robotic or psychic nature, he may be capable of some sort of mental communication with them. (This can be ascertained in permissions posts.) As mentioned above, he is a competent tactician, and excels at performing in small-group teamwork.

His body is slightly more hardy than the average human's, and he can take damage that could be considered fatal to a normal person (such as a shot to the chest) as long as he doesn't bleed out - his actual existence resides in the nanomachines within his bloodstream.

First Person: [As the feed clicks on, there's mild surprise apparent on Tieria's face - he hadn't expected this device to be of any real use. After all, it didn't seem to have any sort of computerised technology in it, and what would it be able to do without that? A lot more than it should, it seems.] I need access to a database of information about this place, and I need it now. Directions to a library or any other public terminal point will be required.

[There's a long sigh, and Tieria is seen pinching the bridge of his nose.] In the extremely unlikely event that no such database is available, I'm going to need a volunteer with a free afternoon, an infinite supply of patience, and a lot of answers.

And then some glasses. And a change of clothes, I suppose, and...

No, just answers first, please.

Third Person: Tieria couldn't say that he had any concrete ideas about the afterlife. He didn't subscribe to any particular religion, but had been fairly confident in some sort of nebulous idea of there being something after death.

And this... this was something, all right. It just wasn't really the something he was expecting. Ruby City wasn't exactly a horrible place, but he thought there might be more evidently heavenly qualities. Soft, bright lights, flowers, even some sort of feasting hall would have been expected.

Sitting outside a train station in the pouring rain, hunched over in the sticky, uncomfortable flight suit he'd died in - that wasn't. There didn't even seem to be any sort of wi-fi to speak of - nothing registered on his peripheral technological senses at all, actually. It wasn't like he had any right to complain, though. He found himself thinking that he didn't actually care about any of it, about how it looked, or how he looked, or whether there was even anything to eat...

None of it mattered. Not if he came here for a reason.

Where are you, Lockon? he thought. And with that, he stood up and took in his surroundings, pulling off his helmet for a better look without rain streaking the visor. His hair, already damp with sweat started to slick to his face in the downpour. He pushed it out of his eyes, tucked his helmet under his arm, and started walking away from the station. Towards whatever sort of life he was going to find in Ruby City.

[CANON] Helen Magnus || Sanctuary || No Reserve || 2 of 3

[personal profile] lifewithoutrest 2013-08-24 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
While her longevity has been a blessing in her work, it has often been a curse in other ways. Imagine knowing you will outlive virtually everyone you love. This is a reality Helen lives with every day. She is painfully aware that she will likely lose anyone she gets close to, either through her work or to age. Perhaps some of her most significant losses were those of James Watson, her partner and colleague of more than a century, and her daughter, Ashley. Over time, this awareness has come to have a significant impact on the decisions she makes and the relationships she has.

Though she sometimes appears soft, there is no question Helen is strong, capable, and passionate about her work. We see exactly how far she is willing to go in order to protect her work when we learn about The Five hunting down Adam Worth. It is also seen in the countless times she has risked her life for the Sanctuary. However, upon first meeting her, she can often seem distant. In truth, she is quite the opposite.

Helen is a very guarded individual, as much out of necessity as anything else. The unknown length of her life, and the uncertainty of her work has left her reluctant to open up to another person. Those she allows behind her walls are few, and she selects them carefully. It means a great deal if she is willing to open her heart to you, or even simply be herself in your company.

This is not to say she is shy about intimacy. She is comfortable with herself and her body, and she is surprisingly fond of physical contact, knowing that a simple touch can often mean more than words. This is most obvious when she is with those closest to her, especially with her daughter. Her body language is more apt to voice her thoughts than she is, and if one truly hopes to gain insight into her emotions, they need only learn to pay attention to her eyes.

Helen is confident, occasionally to a fault, but she also tends to take others’ burdens as her own. She harbors a tremendous amount of guilt, often blaming herself for circumstances beyond her control. While she makes it a practice not to hold regrets, her mistakes and failures are rarely far from the surface, influencing her methods and actions.

Though Helen has lived too long and seen too much to follow any specific religion, she has a great deal of faith. She is very spiritual, in her own way. She does believe there is something greater than herself, and at times, she draws strength and comfort from that belief. Still, what truly keeps her waking up in the morning is her work. She has devoted nearly her entire life to ensuring abnormals are given protection and common courtesy, while also working to protect humans from those abnormals too dangerous to be allowed freedom.

One of Helen’s more interesting qualities is her sense of humor. It is very dry and occasionally almost unsophisticated. This is usually only seen when she is in the company of those she considers close friends.

Underneath it all, Helen is caring and compassionate in everything she does, giving to others more than she would ever consider taking for herself. She is a very unique individual who has lived through things most could not imagine, but she takes it mostly in stride. Her work is never finished, and she will not rest until it is.

Background: @ Wikipedia

Abilities:
Because Helen has lived for more than a century, she has an impressive body of knowledge and a great deal of experience. This has also given her a longer view of things, allowing her to understand the world in a different manner than most. We understand that history repeats itself because we have read the textbooks. She knows because she's watched it happen. Living so long has also given her decades to study a variety of topics, as well as practice a number of different hobbies

-- Longevity: During an experiment in which she was injected with a serum derived from vampire blood, she was graced with extreme longevity. She still ages, but incredibly slowly. This is why she appears to be in her mid-forties, though she is well over 100 years old. I will point out that while often viewed similarly, this is not the same as immortality. Helen can be injured or killed just like any other human. At most, the blood may have provided her with an added resistance to illness and somewhat improved healing, though this has never been made entirely clear within the series.
-- Education: Unsurprisingly, given her advanced age, Helen has had more opportunity than most to further her education. And she has definitely made use of it. As a result, she has several doctorates, including medicine, xenobiology, cryptozoology, and teratology. While her primary focus appears to be medicine, her work requires the active practice of each of these degrees. Due to the nature of her work, studying abnormals, she has a vast knowledge of a variety of physiologies.
-- Language: Having had decades to learn, and having lived or visited many different regions, Helen also has an extensive knowledge of several different languages. Among those which she can read, write, or speak (or a combination of the three) are Italian, Zulu, Cambodian, Norwegian, French, German, sign language (American and British), Morse code, Japanese, Greek, Spanish, and of course, English.
-- Combat: She has a familiarity with a variety of different weapons, including those invented by people within her network. However, she is most commonly seen with her handgun. She is also highly skilled in hand-to-hand combat.
-- Other: While most of this is based on headcanon or interviews, I tend to believe Helen is both artistically and musically inclined but has had little time to practice in recent years. I also suspect she has a hidden talent for cooking, though she rarely puts it to use.

This list is probably not nearly all-inclusive. She has over a century's worth of learning and experience to draw on, and sadly, I'm not nearly as talented as she is.

CHARACTER
Name: Jefferson
Canon: Once Upon a Time
Age: 29
Timeline: post Hat Trick
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: n/a

Personality: Jefferson is much more than a tea-drugging, gun-toting kidnapping madman.

Like many who live in Storybrooke, he has a fairytale land counterpart. Essentially, he has three. In chronological order, there is dapper and self-serving 19-year-old Jefferson, who was in cahoots with Rumplestiltskin and involved with manipulating Regina, single parent Jefferson, and Jefferson trapped in Wonderland. These parts all influence how he is when we see him in Storybrooke.

When Jefferson was a portal jumper, he is young and cares for no one but himself. He dresses flashy and even his body language is elaborate. He has no concept of personal space, and even upon meeting Regina for the first time, he has no issue with positioning himself far too close. While he isn’t a bad guy, he knowingly works for the scariest mofo Fairytale Land has to offer. Unlike many people Rumple works with, Jefferson apparently doesn’t have a fixed price for their dealings. It boils down to ‘take however much gold you think your time was worth’, and in turn, Jefferson was able to mass some kind of fortune.

He has extremely lax morals; not only does he not have a problem with aligning himself with notorious bad folks, but he doesn’t mind being an active participant in devious things as long as he gets what he wants out of it. Thus he’s partially responsible for Regina getting toward the path of becoming the evil queen.

As a parent, we see an entirely different side to Jefferson. A lot has happened since his portal hopping days, and he’s not only learned a lot but he’s lost a lot as well. He lives in poverty and puts all his time and energy in being a good father for his daughter, Grace. It’s safe to assume she’s the only thing he’s ever cared about with the exception of himself. She makes him selfless, and he would do anything for her.

That includes going against his better judgement. Jefferson has always been weak, and if someone knows what buttons to press, he’s easy to manipulate. Of course, there’s no better person to do the manipulating than Regina. There’s a shared history implied, that we don’t get to see, but it’s safe to assume that he worked with her some until he had Grace. It’s thanks to his foolishness in trusting her just a little that gets him trapped in Wonderland. Then again, it’s easy to say it’s not trust so much as a combination of reluctance and the drive to be able to provide for his daughter and give Grace anything she’d ever want, which Regina promised.

The “Mad Hatter” aspect comes into play while he’s in Wonderland. A combination of mercury and being forced to repeatedly make a hat to get him back home- which he knew to begin with wouldn’t work- was enough to drive him mad. All he wanted was to get back home to his daughter, and that was his only driving force. Without her, he lost everything that ever mattered. It’s also Wonderland where he gets the scar around his neck, from being decapitated by the Queen during his questioning.

In Storybrooke, the Jefferson we see is different from all the others. Like everyone else, he is cursed, but his curse is to remember his real life. He has a double consciousness, so to speak, for twenty-eight years, while the rest of Storybrooke is functioning like the folks from Groundhog’s Day without any recollection of who they are.

He’s there because Regina wants him to be, and he remembers for the same reason. He’s given a huge home, filled with everything he ever wanted to provide for Grace. Every day, he’s had to watch his daughter be raised by another family, by another man. There’s a great deal of possessiveness there, and he can’t stand the thought of being replaced.

By the time Emma arrives in town, he’s bitter, lonely, and absolutely desperate, firmly believing if he can just get a hat to work, he can take his daughter to their real home and she’ll remember him. It’s desperation that leads him to kidnap Mary Margaret and Emma. (And yes, he genuinely was trying to save MM as well, in a roundabout way. He at least prevented her from getting herself hurt or killed, and as a bonus he got Emma where he wanted her.)

He’s still good at making the best decisions ever, and his desperation only fuels that. Hence why he felt like he had no choice but to drug and kidnap to get Emma to help. He’s still as sassy and sarcastic as he was when he was younger, and operates in grey areas even if he is a bit unhinged at times.

He doesn’t have it in him to actually kill anyone, but he isn’t above manipulating things in his favour to get someone else to do the dirty work for him.

CHARACTER
Name: Yoko Littner
Canon: Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
Age: 18
Timeline: After the defeat of Guame by Simon and Nia
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: n/a

Personality:
Despite being very young, Yoko is seen as being very mature and rather educated for some one living underground. Instead of being impulsive and brash like her gang leader, Kamina, Yoko prefers to take things slow and think them through before she goes charging head-first into a battle. In the case of Ritona Village being under Beastman attack, she is pivital in planning out a defensive strategy that allows the village not only its saftey, but puts a Gunmen in the hands of Kamina. She is also shown to be a very protective person, especially towards her companion Simon. Not only is she a support on the field with her skillfull talent at sharpshooting, she has offered Simon and Kamina many times an insightful conversation or support when the young pilot and their leader find themselves in doubt.

Yoko is not only a rock to those she is friends with, but also a Mother figure that they look up to and rely on. In the many times that Simon often questions himself, Yoko has a knack for appearing before him and lending an ear. Before their conflict in which the life of Kamina is lost, Yoko eases Simon down from his worry by reminding him that Kamina believes in him and his ability to fight. It is almost as if she knows just what to say and when to say it.

She's very dependable, in the often times where her friend Leerom advice and help when tinkering around with machines or weaponry. It makes her a very valuable asset to those with limited knowledge of the surface, having spent a good deal of time fending off Beastmen but also exploring the different technology forgotten to those below ground. She's always eager to try and improve the situation of those she cares for, selflessly putting herself in danger if it means protecting lives. In the case of her first appearance in the series, she follows the Gunmen which lands in Jiha Village even though she is one person with a gun facing an opponent in a giant mechanized robot.

For a woman who has seen death and hardship many times over, she is also very internally strong. Even when left in tears at the wake of Kamina's death, she stubbornly tells her friend Dyakka that "I'm fine". She isn't one to let her weaknesses show, putting on a tough front when the chips are down. Though she chooses to fight, Yoko dislikes violence and makes it very vocal that she does not agree with it. Even though the canon point she is being plucked from doesn't show it as strongly, she later in the series becomes an advocate for peace, becoming a school teacher rather than a gun-slinger. She firmly believes that children shouldn't have to face violence and death, much like her friend Simon has had to do countless times.

She is easily flustered by those around her, not taking lightly to being teased or gawked at. Though she chooses to dress with limited clothing (believing that more clothing restricts her movements), she has often had her heel or fist find many the face of a man who remarks about her choice of combat wear. Though she is confident in herself, she still exhibits a bit of shame and bashfulness when Kamina points out her qualities and endowments.

[CANON] Yoko Littner - Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann - RESERVE: 2 of 2

[personal profile] thegurlnextdoor 2013-08-29 01:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Background:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Gurren_Lagann_characters#Yoko_Littner

Abilities:
Copied from the Gurren Lagann Wiki-

Skilled Marksmen: Yoko is a skilled shot with her rifle and has shown to be able to take out two Gunmen alone, without suffering any injuries. She is also shown to be able to hit weak spots on Gunmen even in the middle of a fight. One of the best examples of her marksmanship is during her battle with Viral when she piloted the Gurren Lagann with Simon. She was able to nearly hit Viral, despite being in the air and moving around, and only missing him by a hair's width.

Skilled Gunmen Pilot: Like most members of Team Dai-Gurren, Yoko is skilled in Piloting a Gunmen. She piloted Gurren-Lagann with Simon once and piloted the Dayakkaiser in the second half and she, along with Kittan, Gimmy and Darry, took out many Anti-Spiral ships on their own.

World Knowledge: Having survived on the harsh and dangerous surface, Yoko has a plethora of knowledge on the land, the air, and everything around her. This makes her a perfect teacher, as she later becomes, being able to pass her knowledge of the world onto those younger than her. She knows a great deal of history, mechanics, weaponry, and even history.

First Person:
[Yoko is used to these sorts of contraptions, handling the watch with care as she inspects the device twice before attempting to use it. Marveled by the design, she pops the lid of the communicator open, unsurprised by the feed as it turns on. She deducts right away that it's purpose isn't only to keep time.]

This is Yoko Littner, over. If anyone can hear me, please respond, over! My name again is Yoko.. Littner.. Over. Please respond if you can hear me!

[She remains in front of the feed, watching for any sign of intelligent life on the other side. Though, while the worry of a response is on her mind, she couldn't help but also hope her communication ettiquette was correct.]

Third Person:
Like an old friend resting upon another's shoulder, Yoko rested the barrel of her long-range rifle as the cold steel nuzzled against her neck. As the sun set in the distance, thoughts collected as her mind looked back at the past few months here in the city, whilst her eyes took in the shades of orange and yellow setting behind the patches of clouds over head.

Her arrival here was smooth, yet the passing weeks had been a ride unlike any she had experienced before. Life atop the surface was a fight for survival, living and sleeping under and on top of rocks. Though times here had their rough patches, she couldn't help but think that she had been blessed with having a somewhat more comfortable situation.

But then again.. She couldn't help but curse herself at the thought. Life had been hard back home, but she wouldn't trade in her time there for the world, let alone a bed here. She had survived against the Beastmen, and she had survived against the strange events here in Ruby City. But all the while, she found herself wishing for the cold and shiver-filled nights under the blue moon, waking up in the dirt and running frantically from becoming a meal.
