APPLICATIONS

Applications are processed weekly, every weekend. The cut-off time for the submission of applications is 11:59PST on Saturday.
✗ Before applying, please read the FAQ and Rules pages.
✗ Please submit your application with the journal you plan to use if you have one made already. If not, another journal is fine, but we prefer your intended journal so it makes for an easier time in granting access to the mod journal and the contacts page.
✗ For very long applications, we would ask you to please separate them into various comments so that they will not take up too much of the page.
✗ Please title your application as { [CANON/CANON OC/OC]CHARACTER NAME || Series Title || reserve/no reserve || X of X } in the subect header
IMPORTANT: Our application form was edited on September 07, 2015. Please use the revised form.
✗ If you are looking for an example of what an application should be like, please refer to the application here for an example of a canon character application, and here for an original character application.

A note for CR AU applications
Ruby City does allow previous game history/CR to be brought over on a case by case basis. If you want to include this in your application please add additional sections for PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT and PREVIOUS GAME HISTORY beneath the Personality and Background/History sections.

In these additional sections we would like to see a brief outline of your character's previous game history and how it potentially impacted on and altered their canon personality.

CHARACTER
Name: Rosaline
Canon: SUPER MARIO GALAXYYYYYY, WOO HOO!
Age: Appears somewhere in her teens (actually old as dirt though because she visits her home planet every 100 years)
Timeline: Just after the Comet Observatory has enough power to go to the Center of the Universe (but hasn’t gone yet)
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: N/A

Personality:

Rosalina is a kind young princess who takes care of the Lumas and has a duty as the protector of the cosmos. All of which she takes very seriously. When she first meets Mario, her concern is, besides helping him safe his ‘special one’ is that the core of the Comet Observatory be rekindled so that her Lumas will survive. Beyond that, she wasn’t to see it capable of traveling the cosmos again. In this way, we notice that it’s not just out of the goodness of her heart that she helps Mario but because it would be mutually beneficial if he were to collect Grand Stars. And when the time comes that it is able to be used as a starship again, Rosalina holds up her end of the bargain rather than booting Mario back down to Mushroom World.

She’s also very motherly but tends to be mothered herself by her companion, Polari. She takes care of her Lumas and her friends, making sure that Mario can’t fall to his death from the Comet Observatory. Rosalina even reads to her Lumas every night, never objecting when Mario sits and listens as well. As she was growing up, she left with a baby Luma to help find their mothers and eventually stayed with all of the Lumas rather than returning to her world and her brother and father. This shows that she can love very deeply and understood from an early age that she was need more there than back home and stargazing.

However, Rosalina is often described as being lonely. Traveling the stars with just the Luma and only ever returning to her home world to look at it once every one hundred years would make someone very lonely As such, she very rarely has any outward signs of joy or sadness. Rosalina would have to hide it to keep her children from worrying about her. Still her emotions do seep through in her voice, even if it doesn’t show well in her expressions. But this also shows her strength because despite all this, she stays with them all because she does love them. She loves them and that is far stronger than any sadness she feels.

But she also has to be calm all the time, calm and collected, in control of herself. Rosalina is the adoptive mother of all the Luma that exist, she has to protect them so they can become what they’re meant to be. She also has an entire cosmos to look after, a responsibility that would be heavy on the shoulders of literally anyone else.

She does form strong bonds though, becoming close friends to Mario, Luigi and even Peach who she became fast friends with at one point. One of her closest friends though is Polari who, despite being fatherly to her, has stuck by her for a long time rather than moving on to become a star, comet or planet.

Not only that but she’s wise. She knows who she can or can’t trust, she knows that it’s a great task she places on Mario and Luigi’s shoulders but she has to. And she knows that she doesn’t know absolutely everything. Looking forward to coming to her home world every one hundred years, she never expected all the Grand Stars and Power Stars to be stolen or for Bowser to create a galaxy of his own with that kind of power. Rosalina knows that she doesn’t know everything but she can keep up with it, determine what can or must be done. That’s her duty, after all.

And finally, she doesn’t need the help of others. It’s clear from her display of power that she could reclaim all the Power Stars and Grand Stars on her own but she couldn’t leave the Comet Observatory, her home, or leave her children unprotected.

Background: Rosalina’s Storybook which tells all we really ever find out about her early life.

Beyond that, we know she’s been flying the Comet Observatory for several hundred years, becoming the adoptive mother of and caring for all the Luma until they grow up and become stars, comet, planets, etc.

When the Mushroom Kingdom was attacked by Bowser during the Star Festival and Peach (Mario’s ‘special one’) was kidnapped, Rosalina became an ally to Mario, lending him her help by giving him a Luma and offering to take her ship to the Center of the Universe (where Bowser had taken Peach) once they were able to recover all the Grand Stars, the power source for the Comet Observatory.

After Bowser was defeated, the star of his new galaxy went supernova and became a black hole, sucking everything into it. The Lumas of the Comet Observatory threw themselves into it to neutralize it. Mario appeared then in front of Rosalina (who saved him) and she promised him that it wasn’t the end but a new beginning, that nothing ever happens the same way. He later woke up back home in a new ‘remade’ galaxy.

In the Gateway Galaxy, Rosalina stood there and watched, promising that she would look after them from beyond the stars.

She does not appear in Super Mario Galaxy 2 until the end. Lubba reveals that he and Rosalina have met before (the details go unmentioned but considering she’s the adoptive mother of all Luma’s, it can probably be assumed that she raised Lubba.) when she appears on the Starship Mario and is relieved to see Baby Luma safe. The Luma goes home with her then, back to the Comet Observatory. Lubba also calls her the “Lady of the Shooting Stars” when she appears.

In the credits though, it shows that Rosalina knows all the details of the second adventure since she was telling that very story to all her Lumas.

Abilities:

Rosalina is old. Very old. She visits her home planet every one-hundred years despite being human. So something in her early travels gave her either an incredibly long life or immortality. Due to the fact that she looks like a teenager (or at least a young adult) immortality is more likely of the two. So she’s immortal.

Secondly, once power is restored to the observatory, Rosalina can use her own powers to shield and protect the starship. Her powers don’t stem from the Power Stars as far as can be told but the fact that, when it’s not acting as a starship, the Comet Observatory is static and has no need for a shield against the things it might slam into while traveling. This can be observed by the fact that, during gametal, any attacks or objects thrown at her are easily deflected by a personal shield.

There’s also the fact that, while flying the observatory (physically, with the power restored, she physically flies the ship) and with the shield in place, the Comet Observatory blasts Bowser’s fleet to bits if they get in the way. She can also form a bridge from her ship to Peach’s castle in the Center of the Universe out of thin air. (Presumably at least, but I didn’t see chunks of what the bridge were made out of anywhere in the Comet Observatory and I looked.)

She can also place a bubble around individuals and levitate them elsewhere. This is shown in the game, whenever Mario falls off the Comet Observatory. And speaking of levitation, Rosalina is almost always seen floating in the air like Lumas which means she is capable of flying.

Other than that, she can do the same spin move that Mario displays through the game. And the fact that she has these abilities and carries a wand, it can be assumed that she’s capable of regular magic like how Kamek and the Magikoopa’s use. Though she wouldn’t use these abilities in the same way.

First Person: Test Drive.

Third Person:

Rosalina stood before the train as it departed, a sigh on her lips as she clutched her Lumas close to her, wand in hand and Polari floating right beside her. All of her children waiting back at the Comet Observatory, Mario waiting for her to fly the ship to the Center of the Universe, Peach waiting to be rescued, all of this already weighed heavily on her mind but not a sign of it showed on her face and she made sure not to squeeze her children in any more of a panic.

Polari knew her well though and he floated just a bit closer to her to wordlessly tell her that it would be alright. They had faced greater challenges than this before. She would see them through it.

“Mama? Where are we?” Of the two Lumas in her arms, the blue one spoke. That was what was important now. Finding out where they were and finding a way home. Her heels clicked as she turned, glancing around the train station for a hint and spotting the poster.

“Ruby City, it says.” Her voice is soft, carrying little of the emotion she feels and there’s a hint of power behind it, betraying that she’s not a regular human girl. “I don’t recall any galaxies having such a name. Polari?”

But the black Luma didn’t have any better an answer. Rosalina knew far more than he did, she knew everything they would ever need to know about the cosmos as its protector. With a sigh, she released the Luma so they could float along beside her and stepped toward the entrance of the station, catching the watch as she did so.

“Hm? A watch?” She kneels down, a pale hand plucking it from the ground. It was silver and unblemished despite being on the ground and almost being stepped on. Fitting though, that the color should match her brooch and crown.

{ [CANON] Steve Rogers/Captain America || Marvel Cinematic Universe || reserve || 2 of 3 }

[personal profile] captain_asthmatic 2014-03-11 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
It seems to me (since I was one of them) that most people who don't really know much about Captain America assume that he's a pretty one-note stereotypical hero - just the embodiment of the most irritating kind of good-old American patriotism, smashing bad guys and obsessed with the greatness of 'Merika. I mean, his superhero name is Captain America. It's hokey as shit.

How wrong I was. Steve Rogers isn't the kind of hypocritical idealized gun-toting man's man that we all roll our eyes at. He's the kind of very human person that everyone should aspire to be.

Even before he underwent the experiment that gave him the strength and power to do so much good in the world, Steve was already a kind, generous and determined person, who was willing to put himself in danger, risk death or torture, to defend those who couldn't defend themselves. A 98 lb asthmatic weakling, he stood up to bullies and got himself beaten down over and over, and just kept standing right back up.

When he became a superhero, that core personality, that kindness and caring for others, didn't change. He just gained the ability to actually do something about the injustices that he sees in the world. He always comes from a position of wanting to do right, and to protect others, rather than being motivated by seeking vengeance or wanting to kill bad people.

Growing up in the 1930s and 1940s, one might expect Steve to be quite prejudiced and sexist, but Steve is pretty special, in that he judges each person on their own merits, and reacts to them based on their own unique attributes and behaviour. Sure, he has old-fashioned ideals and values. He's chivalrous towards women and respectful of others, particularly elders and those in positions of authority. But he doesn't look down on people for being of a different race, or for being a woman. After an initial curiosity at Peggy Carter, for example, he fully accepted that she was a military woman and outranked him, and that was the end of that. He also accepted Bruce Banner at their first meeting and showed him respect without any outward wariness, putting aside what he was told and giving Bruce the benefit of the doubt no matter what he'd been told about the Hulk.

Steve is a natural leader, and without any real posturing, ego or arrogance, he is capable of taking charge in most situations and making good decisions. This is partly a function of his considerable military experience fighting in WWII, but it's also a natural ability of his. Within a short time of being in his presence, people tend to gravitate towards him and he commands respect without trying. He naturally grasps the personalities of those around him, and their strengths and weaknesses, and puts them in the places where they can do the most good. It's this personality trait that resulted in him slipping in a natural, unspoken manner, into the role of leader of the Avengers, even given the complex dynamics there. If you think about it, it's amazing that in a group that includes Tony Stark, who is basically a creature of pure ego, and Thor, who is a god and future king, STEVE wound up the leader, and by the end of the first Avengers movie everyone just naturally does what he tells them without questioning it.

Despite all of his accomplishments and abilities, there's still a part of Steve that has low confidence and still thinks of himself as just some normal kid from Brooklyn. On the one hand, this keeps him humble, and ensures that he doesn't start to become the kind of person that he hates. But more than that, it makes him hesitate at times. He hates to make a mistake, especially if people get hurt because of him. He has a tendency to brood on his mistakes, and to want to be busy and take action to prevent himself from dwelling too much on the things he's lost. He feels uncomfortable in the future, and gravitates towards solitude and familiar things, baffled by this strange, fast-paced and technological new world.

Yet, he's selling himself short. With his versatility and intelligence, there's no doubt that he could come to understand things like the internet and new pop culture, but he is self-conscious of his lack of scientific education and his unfamiliarity with things that come naturally to others. For example, when Tony is trying to get him to help restart one of the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier's engines, he tries to play off his confusion as a joke: "It appears to use some form of electricity", because he feels helpless and uncomfortable with what Tony is asking him to do. Though one thing that's significant about Steve as that unlike many people, he doesn't get angry when he's placed in uncomfortable situations. Instead, though he might make light of the situation, he'll always just put his head down, cope and do his best with whatever resources he has available. No matter the odds or the obstacles, the one thing Captain America never does, is give up.

Background: Gotta love comics nerds and their thorough documentation

CHARACTER
Name: Serah Farron
Canon: Final Fantasy 13-2
Age: 21.
Timeline: At which point of the canon were they taken from? Right before returning to AF500
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?:N/A
Personality: Serah is the sunshine of everyone around her. In the series in which every character is basically doomed to either become a monsterous being or to possibly never see anyone you love again when becoming a l'cie, Serah handles it well. While her first reaction is panicked as she struggles with the idea of being a l'cie, with Snow's encouragement, she plans to live on and find her focus, instead of giving up. When she crystalizes, all she says is that she wants to save Cocoon, even though she was crystalizing and may never see her family or fiance again. In the sequel, she's so opimistic to build a new future that she goes off with a stranger, hoping even to find her lost sister when everyone else believes Lightning dead. Serah's optimism is what drives a lot of other characters in the game to keep on going, namely Snow and Lightning, as they go on their adventure. As long as Serah has something to live for and a purpose, she will never give up.

Serah is also extremely caring and understanding. Serah's main reason for wanting to become a teacher is to teach kids to think for themselves, and after the events of FF13, it shifts slowly to teach kids why Cocoon fell. She doesn't seem to believe that a person or a situation is all bad, which can be where she and Lightning disagree. Where Lightning is very practical, Serah is both practical and understanding. Before the events of FF13, Vanille and Serah coincidentally meet on the beach, where Vanille shares her fears (discreetly, of course) of what she's released to the world, and that she is sorry for what happened to Serah, although Serah does not know. Serah consoles her and lets her know that she can face it later, and allows Vanille to "practice" on her. This goes to show that Serah deeply cares about the people around her, and when Light and Snow go missing in FF13-2, she reacts strongly, going into a sort of funk. Serah knows the consequences of her actions in FF13-2, which seems to be more than Noel knows, and also knew the consequences of becoming a l'cie in the first one. She knew that it was wrong to go off with a stranger, and that a l'cie is essentially doomed, but mixed with her cheery nature, nothing can stop her.

However, without a support system, she seems to fall apart. In the first game, she runs off after Lightning says it's her job to deal with l'cie and accuses her of using it to get married, which then causes Serah to go to the vestige and become trapped. You see, without her support system, she feels as though she's going to be forgotten, or left behind, which is her deepest fear. As long as she has someone to keep her going, she'll go by herself, but without Lightning or Snow, she can fall into a slump, or panic. This happens in the first part of the second game, where Serah nearly gets killed and her only defense is to call for an absent Lightning. She can function without them, as shown in FF13-2, but ultimately needs them in order to stay sane. In fact, for most of FF13-2 events, she's doing this all so she can get Lightning and Snow back. Since they matter to her the most, it's very hard for her to keep her nature in line when their lives or anything is at stake. She tries to distance herself when she becomes a l'cie to protect them, and in FF13-2 she fights a fal'cie endlessley and almost gets herself killed trying to get them back. Serah needs them, and without them, she can be quite a mess if she has no way of seeing them ever again.

Background: Here is where we would like to see information about your character's history and their place within their canon. This can be written if you wish, or you can link to any wikis and relevant resources.

Abilities: Serah has the ability to control monsters after defeating them in battle, allowing them to be on her side during a fight. Also, after a period of time, this animal can link with Serah, allowing for a feral link attack. This is a powerful attack done by the monster, which depends on how long Serah and the monster have been fighting together. However, when she changes roles (which I'll talk about in a second), the monster she summons changes as well.

Her three roles are: Ravager, Saboteur, and Commando. Commando is your standard heavy hitter with melee and ranged weapons, able to deal a lot of damage but not a lot of anything else. Ravager, on the other hand, is more of a magic role, but does not deal with her teamates. It's offensive magic that's equivalent to hitting the monster, but with specifc elements and strong or weak attacks. Finally, the point of a Saboteur is to weaken the enemy through afflicting them with statuses. This magic would be a heal drain, or poisoning, or slowing the monster down. While it doesn't do a lot of damage all at once, it does damage over time and makes it easier for her party members to attack. These roles, however, cannot be mixed--in a turn, she can only do Commando, Ravager, or Saboteur moves, not a combination of the three. She can switch inbetween turns, but until the turn ends, Serah can't do attacks outside of the current role she's in.

Links for spells, since they're long:

Saboteur
Ravager

Since I'm playing her from end game, I would like it if she could have all the spells listed under playable characters. If not, please let me know!

Finally, this is a bit tricky: she has a sidekick, Mog, who turns into her weapon, which is a crossbow and a sword, but not at the same time. At close distances, it will be a sword, and at farther distances, it will be a crossbow. He also can find hidden items, and be thrown to normally unreachable places to gather items, if he trusts you. Outside of battle, he's a moogle, which is a whit blob, with a red nose and lines for eyes. He is rather expressive, but at first, he's very shy.

First Person: [At first, all that is seen is a streak of pink hair. There's some muttering off camera, and Serah finally speaks, although it's to no one in particular.]

So is this the video function...

[And then the camera moves, showing one Serah Farron, smiling lightly at the screen. Something white is hiding behind her, but a gem pokes up from the white creature. ]

I'm Serah. Nice to meet you guys, finally! So, I was wondering...how's the coffee at the cafe? [That smile turns into a mischievous grin.]

I would love it if someone would come with me. But you might have to buy. I don't have any money on me right now. Unless this place has somewhere I can exhange gils, I'm stuck.

I promise I'll pay you back.

Third Person: The cathedral seemed uninviting, but Serah was ridiculously curious. It seemed to be a historical site, and even with it's dark, almost malevolent stone, Serah could see the beauty in it. It was a weathered building, like everything else, but perhaps she could stay the night here, if she had to. She had talked to the volunteers, which were great sources of information, but Serah always preffered seeing over just hearing about things. Even if that had gotten her in trouble more than once.

Serah went over to the glass windows, currently dark as the evening outside, but the patterns were still recognizable. She traced the glass patterns, staring at them in awe. She wondered who had made this, and why. Of course it was religious, or so she assumed, but why these images? And why was the building so unwelcoming on the outside? The inside seemed rather plain, not ornamental at all. Maybe the outside was made to reflect the humbleness of a worshipper? But, then why have the glass windows? She could ask questions all night, but none of them could be answered by just staring at the windows. She spent a few more minutes grazing the windows before turning to the front.

She walked to the front of the cathedral, navigating narrowly through the pews. Something seemed off. Serah had never really been very religious--she believed in defining her fate, but also in Etro, but not to the point where she would go to church--but she was pretty sure this felt almost dark, as if it was pointing out all her faults, pushing her out instead of cherishing her, like a god might. It could be magic, she guessed, but without knowing if magic could happen here, she put it in her mind for consideration later. It could also be a paradox, but that, she felt, would have been more obvious the moment she stepped in. This was more of a seeping darkness, one that was barely noticable at first, but slowly just became darker and darker as she stayed. Having enough of it, Serah turned to leave, letting this one be solved later. But she would solve it.

Never doubt Serah Farron.
