CHARACTER
Name: Bro Strider
Canon: Homestuck
Age: Early 30s
Timeline: directly post death
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: Bro Strider has nothing to do with Jake English. He has no reason to speak to him or care about him.

Personality: Bro Strider is...a little eccentric, to say the least. For example, he's just as apt to spend three hours discussing the fear of death and why bank rates across the world are on the rise as he is to take apart and rebuild everything in the kitchen 'just for kicks'. He makes his living selling puppet porn on the internet. He maintains that you're never too old to enjoy some of life's simpler pleasures; such as how nice a well-cooled blade is in the morning, or the laughter of a cartoon pony on a sunny Saturday afternoon. Or maybe he's just being ironic. To be sure, the impression that he strives to present to the world at large is one of a Very Cool Dude. From his confident grin to his over-the-top anime shades, he seems to have been crafted out of Cool Itself. If there is an essence of Cool, Bro Strider has discovered it and drinks from it daily. At least, he'd like you to think so. Fortunately, if you don't, he doesn't really care; he knows what he's about; that is, most of the time. The rest of the time he's busy figuring out the best way to make it look like he did know what he was about, and he in fact planned all of this from the beginning, and how could you have ever thought otherwise?

He's very, very good at pulling that off.

Underneath that Cool Guy exterior is a dude who is kinder than he should be to a world that's taught him not to trust it. Though he's always encouraged his kid brother to keep the rest of humanity at a distance, Bro tends to maintain a watchful eye on the people around him and is quick to step in if something isn't going the way it should. He's not afraid to speak up when he feels there's something that needs to be said. It's one of the reasons he's quick to take the lead in any given situation, regardless of whether or not he actually knows what he's doing. Fortunately, there's a wily intelligence behind those pointed shades. A quick thinker, Bro is usually pretty good at working his way out of almost any situation that he's gotten himself into. Unfortunately, he's rarely concerned with his own physical well-being when it comes to escaping the circumstances, so while it's almost completely assured that everyone else will come out of things intact, it's also probably pretty positive that he...won't. He's not a martyr by any means; he just knows that he's capable of surviving more than most people can handle. There's a myriad of scars crossing his torso that are a testimony to his 'carelessness' in the past, and he's not afraid to add a few more lessons to his skin.

In a more casual, day-to-day setting, Bro's pretty friendly, at least on the surface. He might never invite you home for dinner, but he'll be more than happy to hang at the local coffee shop for a few hours and play cards while discussing politics, or chat up your favorite books over an intense game of chess. He spends just as much time honing his mind as he does honing his body, and sometimes the best whetstone you can have is someone else's wit.

Having been a loner from a very early age, Bro very rarely has any concept of what is socially acceptable. He doesn't sugar-coat things, because he doesn't know how to. He rarely dances around topics, because the concept of not saying what you mean is asinine. His straightforward approach when it comes to conversation is probably one of the reasons it's so hard for him to convey emotions of any sort. Emotions usually turn into One Big Awkward, and are probably one of the only topics of discussion Bro Strider will be nearly close-lipped on.

The list of people Bro legitimately calls 'friend' can be counted on one hand. Having spent most of his life immersed in ensuring the well-being of someone else means that he never gave himself much time to give a shit about learn how to trust someone. Most people are held at arms-length. It's not that he doesn't know how to make friends, but keeping them is something else entirely. There are few people that he's actually bothered to fight to keep in his life. The rest he leaves to their own devices, figuring that if they want to stick around, they'll learn to keep up. Bro has spent a long time learning how to not make attachments, and that isn't going to change anytime soon.

Background: Bro Strider on the MSPA Wiki.

Abilities: Bro is a fairly typical human, with above-average strength and reflexes, though that's mostly because he's spent a good portion of his life training. The only ability that he's got that isn't inherently due to rigorous training is the ability to 'flash-step' almost ninja-like from one point to another, so fast that he sometimes appears out of sync with reality when fighting.

First Person: Bro Strider at the Box's test drive meme. (Sorry I'm just super proud of this)

Third Person: The wires were a tangled mess and Bro was right in the middle of it, cords draped over his bare shoulders and pooling around his crossed legs on the floor. "Ain't nothin' about this that should be difficult," he grumbled under his breath, frustration bringing out the Texan in him and making his voice twang. With a sigh, he dropped the coppery ends that he'd been holding and began the tedious task of extracting himself from the nightmarish tangle. "I mean, it's not like I'm askin' for much. Just to be able to up the RPMs on the blender."

Tugging at the brim of his hat, he shook his head at the disarray of electronics. The blender in question had its front panel removed, and several of the thicker cords were wired into it. With a scowl, Bro scuffed his foot across the discarded panel. "Honestly. The way they've got it wired right now makes no fuckin' sense." He shook his head. "Ah, well. Fuck it." Another sigh, and he shifted, moving to clean up the mess. Today, 'cleaning up' meant shoving most of the wiring in the linen closet, just under a stack of towels. Keep the kid on his toes, Bro thought almost smugly as he closed the closet.

It had been tempting to whip out the smuppets and set up some sort of nerd bukkake photoshoot (fuck knew it had been a minute since he'd had some original stuff on the site), but it was nearing the time for Dave to be home; and, well, it was one thing to leave smuppets lying around and it was quite another thing to have the kid walk in on filming. Instead, the hand-stitched puppets remained where they'd been for the past few days: huddled together in the attic. He was making a couple new ones, and he was holding off on making a new set for the site, waiting until he'd completed some new 'models' and could make a big thing out of it. It was to one of those projects he returned now, picking up the colorful piece of craftsmanship and letting his fingers wander over its shape before he reached for the needle and thread he'd left sitting on the coffee table when he'd put it aside the first time.

Perched on the futon, he went to work.

CHARACTER
Name: Xemnas
Canon: Kingdom Hearts
Age: By appearance, somewhere in his thirties. Physically speaking, it’s a bit more complicated. However, as Xemnas specifically he’s existed for about a decade.
Timeline: Post Kingdom Hearts 3D
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: N/A

Personality: We are expecting at least THREE well-written paragraphs minimum, with references to canon examples of your character’s personality where available. Please provide us with insight to your character and their behaviour, their likes, dislikes and fears, as well as your understanding of them. We would also like to see details of your character's strengths and weaknesses, which may include physical, psychological and emotional.

The simplest way to explain Xemnas is to say that he’s quite thoroughly horrible person, even by the rather skewed standards of Organization XIII. While he may have been somewhat nicer (or rather, less immediately horrible) at earlier points in his life, as he is now he is very much the epitome of a Nobody, for all that he may not actually be one anymore (canon is a little ambiguous on whether he actually is one anymore or not). However, the time he spent as a Nobody was a large portion of his history, as he can consciously remember it, and without his heart, he was unable longer truly feel emotion. As a result, he tends to come off as uninterested at best, and cold and merciless at worst, especially when you add the original Xehanort’s general mindset. After all, he certainly doesn’t care what people think of him, and if a few people need to die in order to achieve his goals, then so be it. In a similar vein, he’s not at all inclined to tolerate either betrayal or failure, particularly in those he leads. Part of this is tied to the requirements for his ultimate goal, but even beyond that, he sees no reason why he should be made to suffer traitors and fools alike.

He also tends to hold himself aloof from not only humanity in general, but also those he directly leads. Much of the Organization’s day-to-day business is filtered down to the ranks through either his second-in-command or the Organization’s seventh, who tends to act as something like his secretary and while this has changed somewhat after the dissolution of the Organization at large, he still prefers to let others keep track of the day-to-day trivialities. This leaves him not only far more able to tend to the more mundane details of keeping things running smoothly but also allows him to keep the true nature of his plans secret - he may have claimed to be after Kingdom Hearts in order to return the lost hearts of the Organization (and may still claim it to be the case, if directly confronted about it), but this is and was nothing more than a lie. His true goal lies much nearer to seeking out Kingdom Hearts for personal power and gain, and this isn’t even the only lie he’s told. He has lied to - and kept secrets from - his Organization and most around him on far more than one occasion without so much as a second thought, and even his occasional habit of pretending to still have the emotions he lost so long ago is nothing more than a carefully calculated lie.

As an incarnation of the original Xehanort, he is also surprisingly good at both being prepared for any eventuality as well as adjusting plans on the fly. To him, the method by which he achieves his ultimate goal is significantly less important than the how, he’s been working to the same ends for more than one lifetime. Admittedly, he can’t remember all of details of this particular fact thanks to having the majority of his memories locked away some ten years ago, but he remembers just enough to be surprisingly effective all the same. His natural patience only increases this effectiveness. After all, it’s hard to be truly annoyed without a heart to care. Or even with one, if you simply can’t be bothered enough to be annoyed.

However, despite the fact that he’s quite thoroughly terrible, traces of the man he used be can still be found in him - a man who was intensely curious about all things, and threw himself head-first into the darkness willingly. It’s simply that this glimpses are rare at best and can be a little hard to see that in the person he is these days, besides. His tendency to be overly verbose at the best of times certainly doesn’t help, either.

In addition, despite his many talents, he is not without his share of failings as well. Like many villains of the series, he is often fairly arrogant especially where his plans are concerned, and while he has the ability to at least not make his failings turn into crushing defeats, they are still defeats and he does still occasionally underestimate his foes, although he does at the very least learn from his mistakes. Likewise, his general demeanor is not exactly the sort to win him many friends (not that he wants them anyway, except maybe to put to his uses), and even his best attempts to pretend otherwise are just pretty lies. In short, Xemnas is a thoroughly despicable person covered by a thin and well-practiced veneer of lies, misdirections and half-truths - and he is well aware of the fact.

Background: Xemnas, and Xehanort.

[CANON] Xemnas || Kingdom Hearts || reserved || 2 of 2

[personal profile] letxequalnull 2013-10-30 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Abilities: As a presumably former Nobody and an incarnation of the original Xehanort, Xemnas has more than a few unique abilities. The most frequently used of these is the ability to travel from place to place - and even across worlds - through portals and corridors of darkness. While he’ll be unable to use these to leave the world of the game, they will cut down on travel time in general. In addition to this, he’s also capable of both going temporarily intangible and floating above the surface of the ground, although not to the point that he could be considered to be flying.

On top of this Xemnas has an element that he controls, like all of the fully humanoid Nobodies and their human counterparts. In his case, he wields the element of nothingness. While canon implies that he’s capable of using this ability to reduce a fully humanoid Nobody to one of the lesser variants, we never see him do this. Instead, he uses it to fuel a wide variety of attacks. In no particular order, these are as follows:
-Shield: while this isn’t technically an attack, it none the less plays a major part in his combat tactics. As might be it expected, it’s nothing more than a simple rectangular shield of magical energy that is capable of blocking most attacks, provided it’s a frontal attack. Since it lasts a mere handful of seconds at best it’s not anything like a long term answer, but it lasts easily long enough to bear the brunt of an attack or two. In fact, one of his favorite strategies as to throw a shield in the way of an attack, before coming in with his own weapons while his opponent is still caught of guard.
-Dark Vines: The least damaging of his attacks, this is little more than thorny vines of darkness. They generally come in batches of a dozen of so and are more of a distraction technique then anything else.
-Lightning: His primary method of attack apart from his weapons themselves, this is once again basically what you’d expect. However, while the most common form he uses is nothing more than a simple blast of lightning, he can also use this to generate ‘cages’ of energy that slowly sap a person’s health. The precise form of these cages varies depending on both his will and what he intends to with the cage. Some of the them will hover around the target as they move, while others simply lock the target in one place (the latter sort also requires more outside help to break free of).
-Lasers: While these could be considered to be an extension of his various lightning based abilities, there are also a few key differences. Most notably, the laser blasts are much more focused on a single point then his lightning is. They also tend to come in sets of two or more, unlike the lightning blasts.

In addition to these, he unlike has a handful of combat-related abilities that do not draw on his innate element. In addition to the floating mentioned earlier, he’s also capable of a sort of short-range teleportation. While it’s not much more than enough to make him more irritating to chase down, it neatly combines with his floating to let him hang in midair far longer than anyone has a right to. This tendency is not helped any by the fact that he can also create copies of himself. These share all of his abilities, but how long they last is largely dependent on how much effort he’s willing to put into their continuing. Since he tends to use them as a distraction technique, they generally can’t take more than a single hit and he never summons more than one at a time. Finally, he’s capable of using some variant on the theme of telekinesis to quite literally throw building at his opponent. However, since the buildings here are much more occupied than the ones at home, he’s not going to be doing any building tossing in-game.

And if that wasn’t already enough there’s also the matter of his weaponry. These take the form of a pair of what canon refers to as etherial blades (collectively referred to as Interdiction) that emanate from the center of his palms and look like nothing so much as a pair of hiltless lightsabers. Like many of his combat techniques, they’re made of the same void that is his element, and he most often wields them in a fast and brutally efficient form of swordplay. However, since they’re made of nothing more than his element, he can also use them as if they were projectiles. Better still, because his weapons are his element made manifest, he never runs out of projectiles, whether it’s simply a matter of enough to create a ring around a person or enough to create a nigh-impenetrable dome of sword-projectiles.

Along with this, word of god has stated that he might also have a Keyblade, and simply chosen not to use it. However, since this is the best we have on the question of whether he retains the use of it he won’t be either using one or displaying any sort of ability to wield one at the moment save in the very unlikely situation that actually requires him to. He’s grown used to his etherial blades, after all, and the Keyblade no longer fits into his battle strategy anyway.

Finally, and just in case he didn’t already have enough abilities to his name, he has one last attack he can only use in times of great strain. Called All-Vanity, it consists of Xemnas surrounding himself with a sphere of his element and unleashing a pair of larger laser blast from his hands. The lasers themselves do heavy damage if they hit, while the sphere itself does a lesser amount of damage on contact.

Just in case all this wasn’t already enough, he also has a few entirely non-magical abilities. Like all of the founding members of the Organization, he is a scientist by trade, with the bulk of his knowledge falling into the fields of biology and chemistry. However, given the natural curiosity of the man he once was and the way he was encouraged to learn, he tends more to the idea of the renaissance man than anything else.

Finally, like many of the incarnations of Xehanort, he has a deep and abiding interest in not only the Keyblade but also the lore surrounding it. As such, he has become something of an expert not only in keyblade lore in generally, but also in the various ancient languages necessary to read the appropriate texts.

First Person: [There’s a moment of silence before the speaker begins. It’s a memorable voice, if not else, quiet but easy enough to listen to. The words, on the other hand, are somewhat less so.] It‘s such a shame, is it not, to be stuck in this city? A gilded cage is no less a cage, and we are thus barred from knowing all there is to know of this world, if indeed it is a world in truth. But perhaps such things are of sharper minds then yours and mine. After all, it is certainly true that we cannot escape this prison on our own.

Does it chafe, I wonder? Are there those of you long to see other worlds and other skies? Or have you simply grown complacent? Uncaring of where and why you have come to reside. I would hear your answers on this matter, if you should care enough to give them.

Third Person: All things considered, Xemnas hadn’t really expected to find himself on a train. They were not unknown, in the various worlds he knew, but all the same, being on a train tended to assume one had gotten on willingly, and as things currently stood he couldn’t quite seem to manage that. Not that he was terribly concerned about either that fact or the question of where he was going. His plans - no, their plans - had not yet come to fruition, but there were certain advantages to planning for the long haul. Namely, there was still time for a slight detour, and perhaps he would find something of use in this new world. After all, it was not yet too late to find new allies.

Still, first there was matter of arriving at the city. For all that he had indeed been to many before there was hardly any sense in assuming anything about a new world. No, for that it was best to first see that which there was, and so he waited patiently until the train arrived. Worry could happen later, as could any other emotion that seemed reasonably appropriate.

For now, however, he simply stepped off the train when prompted to, without so much as the slightest flicker of concern that the train vanished behind him. He had other ways to leave at his disposal (or so he believed, not having quite attempted to leave of his own volition yet). Instead, he strode out into the city at large. There was, after all, more likely to be people then at the train station and he could hardly see if there were any suitable allies present without first speaking to the people in question. The idea of using the pocketwatch he’d been given was something he didn’t so much as even think of, largely because he had certain assumptions about the general purpose of watches.

But he had no qualms about speaking to people face to face. And besides, it was easier to control what people thought of him that way, which was certainly nothing to complain about.

CHARACTER
Name: Sam Winchester
Canon: Supernatural
Age: 15
Timeline: Pre-series; Specifically, as shown during the flashback in 7x03 after Sam and Amy have parted ways.
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: N/A

Personality:
“Normal” is an ideal Sam Winchester strives to achieve, because his life is anything but. Normal kids aren’t shuffled from school to school every few weeks. Normal kids worry about test scores and acne, not werewolves and vengeful spirits. Normal kids will have a parent soothe them when they’re nine years old and they’re scared of the thing in the closet, but in Sam’s case his father handed him a .45 pistol. Nothing in Sam’s life is even close to normal, which makes him crave it that much more.

Sam’s dysfunctional family life is nothing to sniff at. He has an ex-Marine for a father, though John is only his father in a loose sense of the term. In Sam’s words, John basically treated him and his brother Dean as warriors; meanwhile, Dean is the one that while only being four years older than Sam took over as both brother and father, as John was out on a hunt more often than not. Even as a child, Sam was used to the disappointment of John not being around for important events or holidays, or even just around in general. It wasn’t until Christmas when Sam was eight years old that he learned what exactly his father did for a living, and since that point he hasn’t had a choice in whether or not he joined in on the family business. It’s no wonder he takes issue with his father, what with being uprooted and moved from town to town every few weeks like clockwork and having to fall in line like a good soldier.

Yearning for normalcy has led to Sam acting out against John and, by extension, Dean. In Sam’s heaven, some of his happiest memories have been revealed, and in them his family is never present. Instead he has memories of his first Thanksgiving with another family and of the two weeks where he’d run away and holed up in a cabin by himself. The appeal of it was to break free, to do what he wanted for a change, rather than have to remain chained to the life he was being forced to pursue. Despite all that, Sam does have a sense dedication to his family; at one point a kitsune, one of the creatures his family had been hunting, saved his life by killing her mother and asked him to leave town with her. And while Sam trusted her, and had the perfect opportunity to leave the hunting life behind, he instead chose to return to his father and brother.

Without a stable home, Sam never really learned how to make friends, what with always being moved around. He was always the new kid, the weird kid, the freak, and tended to go into a new environment with a pessimistic attitude. At one point one of his teachers had questions on an essay he’d written, and Sam’s response was that the teacher could go ahead and flunk him, stating that it wouldn’t matter because his family was taking off again as soon as his dad got back. So desperate is he to fit in that he purposefully puts up with others bullying him so he doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb. Being a teenager (with a temper) he does have limits to how much he can put up with, and will rise to the bait if someone continues to taunt him, although he’s much more likely to react if it’s someone else that’s being given trouble.

Sam has always been decently easy to sway using emotions. Unlike many brought up in the hunting world, he tends to see things in shades of gray, rather than simply black and white, good or evil. Empathizing comes naturally to him, and he can go from brandishing a knife to being off his guard in under a minute. Certainly part of that is due to his less-than-stellar people skills. Sam is shy and awkward, and even at 15 years old has to ask his brother how to talk to girls. ...And then completely bombs his opening line, stumbling pathetically while trying to manage a simple “I just wanted to say hi” and looking so horribly dejected that the girl who told him to go away then feels compelled to explain herself.

So social activities aren’t really Sam’s thing. What is his thing, however, is thinking. He’s intelligent and creative, and able to throw himself into research and do whatever it takes to find out what he needs to. If that means downing a triple redeye to get the job done, then so be it. Sam is often delegated to research duty. It’s a role that requires him to find out what John and Dean are hunting and, more importantly, how to kill it. He can spot patterns in attacks, cross-reference different source materials, and pick through and separate the useful information from the unusable. His family’s safety is in his hands, and they may continuously call and pester him for updates, but they trust his skills enough to leave him to the task and trust his judgment when he does come upon an answer. His teenaged bullheadedness certainly comes in handy when it comes to not giving up before he gets his answers, even if it does cause tensions elsewhere in his life.

[CANON] Sam Winchester || Supernatural || Reserved || 2 of 2

[personal profile] demontaint 2013-11-01 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
Background: Link; Applies through age 15

Abilities:
From a young age, Sam has been trained to fight. At the very least it’s to be expected he has experience with firearms (his father gave him a pistol when he was 9 and he mentions weapons training) and knives (he’s been shown with both butterfly and hunting knives). Hand-to-hand combat is also something that’s been drilled into him, and he’s easily taken on older kids several times, though they likely had no training to begin with. His smaller stature makes him agile and able to make quick attacks, though it’s unlikely he’d be able to take on any adult that knows how to handle themselves.

Other than that, Sam has a decent knowledge of the supernatural as well as ways to dispatch various creatures. And for those that he isn’t familiar with, he’s damn good at hitting the books until he figures it out. Sam also has basic medical training in a loose sense of the term. Give him a sewing needle and some dental floss and he can patch up a wound pretty well. It’ll leave a scar, but that’s better than bleeding out, right?

First Person:
[Looking anything but comfortable, a small, wiry teenager addresses the city through a video feed.]

Hi, uh, I’m– My name’s Sam. This kinda goes out to anyone who’s gone outside of the city, but even if you haven’t I could still use your help. See, I’m trying to– First off, there’s no denying that there are monsters out there, okay? I think enough of us have seen them to rule out that they’re just myths. So anyone, if you’ve seen something unnatural around, I want to talk to you. Well I mean.. I want you to talk to me.

What I want to do is make a list. More like an encyclopedia I guess, but basically something that has information on the creatures that are here. Out there. If you know how to protect yourself from it, that’s a plus, but even if you just know what something’s called or even what it looks like, that would help. I’m pretty good at hitting the books, so hopefully I’ll be able to fill in the blanks, but uh..

[He runs a hand through his hair.]

I think it’ll help everyone if there’s a reference for things that are out there. What to expect, ways to defend yourself or kill them. It would help people stay safe, whether they’re in the city or want to look outside it. So uh. Thank you, in advance.

Third Person:
At least research was something Sam was familiar with. He supposed he should be terrified, what with barely any recollection of how he had arrived here in the first place, though perhaps that was what the uneasy feeling in his gut was trying to build up to. But like this, with a stack of books beside him and his nose buried in the dusty pages, it was easy enough to slip into habit that the pressing urge to panic was forced further down by the turn of each page, by each book pushed aside after Sam is through sifting from cover to cover.

Thus far, his search has been fruitless. He’s found names of creatures that spirit away men, women, or children, but nothing with a taste for all three that simply.. allowed its victims free range. A djinn had crossed his mind, but Sam quickly dismissed that thought. Djinn were supposed to show one dreams and wishes, not something they never wanted. At one point, Sam found himself wondering if his father would know what to do, but he shook that thought away as well.

If there was one good thing about this place, it was that John wasn’t here. No phone calls every hour that led into disappointment, into people’s lives are at stake, Sam, into call me as soon as you know something. As if he would have forgotten under whose orders he was stuck in the library for to begin with. The teenager huffed, focused in on the book in his hands again. He didn’t need his father’s guidance. He could do this on his own.

CHARACTER
Name: Dean Winchester
Canon: Supernatural
Age: Late twenties. Dean is 29 from his canon point.
Timeline: Season 3, Episode 9: “Malleus Maleficarum.”

Dean made a deal with a crossroads demon to trade his soul for his brother's life, giving himself one year to live before the ticket's cashed in on his eternity. His brother found out and they have been alternating between hunting baddies and Sam trying to find a way to get Dean out of his deal. Dean doesn't want Sam to save him, as he was told that fudging the demon deal would put Sam back in the ground.

In this episode, the brothers are hunting witches who are killing people around a town. At his canon point, Dean was just stabbing the demon that was the heart of the issue.

{ [CANON] DEAN WINCHESTER || Supernatural || RESERVED || 2 of X }

[personal profile] hellsmostwanted 2013-11-07 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
When he was four years old, Dean used to play t-ball (noted in his dad's journal). Later, while he was still four, Dean's mother burned to a supernatural death on the ceiling of their home. During this time, Dean's father put his baby brother in his arms and sent him out of their house as the flames grew. This event resulted in his father obsessively hunting for the creature that murdered Mary Winchester, and killing monsters along the way, effectively changing the Winchesters' lives forever.

Dean and his brother were raised as children of a strict, ex-marine, sometimes-alcoholic hunter. When Dean was between the age of 6 and 7, his father gave him his first hands-on lesson with firearms. At age ten, he was already being left alone to protect Sam, and practicing with a shotgun. Two years later, he made his first sawed-off shotgun - something he is proud of years later. Fun and games were severely lacking in his life as a boy. Circumstances forced him to grow up at a very early age in order to take care of both his little brother and his father, but it's noted by John that Dean never complained. He took the cards he was dealt and he made the best of it, keeping any resentment he felt locked inside.

Despite the obvious flaws of John after Mary's death, Dean idolized his father, hanging onto his every word. He is described as a "good soldier" for always doing as his father ordered. While Sam began to rebel against John's poor parenting at a young age, Dean persistently justified John's neglect. As John spent more and more time away from the brothers hunting, Dean constantly worked to make up for their father's absence. When he was twelve, he tried to provide a makeshift Christmas for Sam that involved stealing presents, lights, and a sad-looking branch for a tree. Though Dean realized their dad wasn't going to show up for Christmas with them, Dean swore he would, and then tried to convince Sam that the gifts and tree were set up by John while Sam was asleep.
When they were young, Dean told Sam that their dad was a superhero; that monsters were real and he fought them. In typical child fashion, he believed his father to be invincible, even though his mother was killed by the things his father hunted. He tried to protect Sam from the "truth" (monsters are real) for as long as possible, and went above and beyond to take care of his brother. From the time he was four, Sam had been the priority given to him by his father and he had embraced it. Watching out for his brother was burned into his personality so deeply that he didn't hesitate to sell his soul in order to save Sam's life. At an earlier point, he admitted to Sam that there were times the things he was willing to do for his family scare him. After Sam started to change and act more careless and similar to Dean, Dean wanted his brother to continue to protest killing, be the sympathetic, gentle one, and was concerned by this loss of innocence.

The love for his family is the very core of Dean's being. It's why he feels guilt so strongly when he believes he has let them down, and it's why he makes sacrifices without complaint. Though he tries to portray himself as a rough-around-the-edges "cool guy" type who doesn't do emotional "chick-flick moments," he is sensitive and feels things deeply, carefully hidden away. A girl in highschool psychoanalyzed Dean, saying his attitude was his way of hiding his loneliness and she wasn't entirely wrong. Dean told Sam once that he believed everyone would leave him, at some point. Their mom did (though her death wasn't her choice), Sam had left him and John to attend college on his own (noted as one of the worst days of Dean's life), and Dean felt abandoned by John when John left him to hunt, saying that he "did everything Dad asked and still got ditched." After his father left to hunt solo, Dean went to get Sam because he didn't want to look for John alone. All said and done, he continues to want his brother by his side as the seasons pass. Although he is very capable of taking care of himself in even the worst situations, he is very co-dependent on his dad and brother, wanting nothing more than to have them united and getting along as a family.

Growing up, he adopted part of the idolization towards his father into himself and used to consider himself a hero who saved people. Despite growing colder with age and more prone to killing (example being killing possessed victims instead of taking the time to exorcize the demons), Dean feels guilt for every innocent life he takes, a fact that is brought up as a reoccurring theme for his character. In a way, he feels responsible to take action against the supernatural world, since he knows it exists while others are oblivious. This thought was engrained into him by his father, who considered their happiness in exchange for the lives of others to be an obvious choice. Though he will rarely admit it, Dean finds it unfair that he should have to sacrifice everything he has ever had and questions why it has to be his job to fight everyone else's battles and not have a normal life with his family. It becomes apparent by what he admits that he finds it unfair that he was the one comforting his father instead of vice versa, that he had to stay and give up his dreams while Sam went to college because John needed him, that he had to protect their family, struggling to hold them together in place of John who was too obsessed with revenge to manage it. There are times when he feels broken down under the weight of responsibility on his shoulders and wants to be out of the "family business," but, as he doesn't see an out for himself, he always gets back up and carries on.

While both John and Sam are capable of heading in their own directions with direct intent, Dean is lost without them. He considers them selfish for focusing single-mindedly on their revenge and not thinking about the remaining, living family that is hurt as a result. His sense of self most often doesn't extend beyond his family and he is unable to see himself changing his ways or ignoring hunting. At one point, Dean tells Sam that his family is all he has and he is nothing without them, which shows that he feels no sense of purpose if he is alone. Taking this into consideration, it is easy to see how Dean would sell his soul for Sam. It is noteworthy to mention that Dean's idolization of his father also led to him adopting a similar style; he wears his father's coat, drives his father's car, listens to the same music as his father, and often preaches to Sam in the same manner about hunting, as it was drilled into his head more successfully than it was in Sam's.

CHARACTER
Name: Mileina Vashti
Canon: Gundam 00
Age: 14
Timeline: Just before the beginning of season 2.
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: N/A

Personality: Mileina's personality seems to be completely incongruous to her setting. She's a mechanical engineer and tactical operator (read: bridge bunny) for a team that definitely leans to the terrorism side of freedom fighting, she spends her days elbow-deep in sprockets and engine oil, and she was most likely brought up in space, without the benefit of many other children, or playgrounds, or school. You would expect a certain sort of personality to come out of that, and Mileina is the polar opposite. She's bubbly, exuberant, and just a little naïve, greeting anyone that comes her way with good cheer and friendliness.

Mileina's natural happiness level seems to run about twice as high as anyone else's. In a situation where her family or friends are in immediate danger, she gets nervous and worried just like anyone else, although her training necessitates her being able to function somewhat better under pressure. But if everyone's safe and accounted for, she immediately starts looking on the bright side. She might get anxious when the ship's hull is breached and her father is injured, but once he's safe in his healing coma and repairs are started, there's nothing to worry about!

One of her biggest peculiarities is her tendency to constantly assume romance is in the air. Not directed at her-- at fourteen she's a bit young for her age in a lot of ways, and doesn't seem particularly concerned about her own love life-- but between fellow pilots? Pilots and beautiful enemy soldiers who have defected? Robots, probably? Sure! She trusts utterly in her own “maiden's intuition”, even though she's only right about half the time. This could come from the fact that her parents are very obviously in love, making Mileina literally the only person in the show with a happy family life, or it could come from the fact that space kids are a little weird. Probably some of both. It's true that she enjoys a good bit of scandalous drama like any teenage girl, but also, she genuinely values and cares for the rest of the crew, and is always happy to see them happy. And what could make them happier than finding love? Nothing, clearly!

All that being said, Mileina is extremely capable and bright, and takes her job seriously. Like any kid, she sighs and moans over having to do boring busy work-- but on the other hand, when lives are on the line, she's happy to work through the night and sleep in the engineering bay. The ship Ptolemaios II, on which she spends most of her time, runs with an extremely small crew-- aside from the four Gundam pilots, there are only five to seven crew members at any given time. This means that at the age of fourteen Mileina not only relays orders and maintains communications during battles, but helps maintain the ship's systems during downtime, as well as improving and repairing the Gundams-- and those are only the skills shown on-screen. Given the skeleton nature of the crew, and the fact that the ship's entire design lends itself to functioning in emergency situations, it's very possible that she would be able to help out in the medical bay or even perform some basic piloting duties in a pinch. What should be taken away from this is that although at first glance Mileina seems like a silly, cheerful teenage girl-- and is, in fact, a silly, cheerful teenage girl-- she's also incredibly smart and dedicated.

Background: Mileina belongs to the paramilitary group named Celestial Being. Here's a general overview of what they're all about, but basically, what they're all about is ending warfare through attacking anyone who attempts to start a war. This may sound counter-productive and just as terrorist-y as the terrorists they're fighting, but on the other hand, what brings people together more than a common enemy?

Mileina herself is a tactical operator on the ship Ptolemaios II, which essentially serves as a floating base for the Gundams to launch from, as well as command central for their various missions. Her main focuses are relaying orders and communications in battle situations, as well as general engineering and upkeep. Her father, Ian, is chief engineer aboard the Ptolemaios, which may explain why a fourteen year old is allowed in these sorts of situations... but on the other hand, the whole Gundam franchise is pretty notorious for skewing young when it comes to pilots and operators, so maybe no reason is needed.

Not much is explicitly stated about Mileina's history prior to the series, but we know enough to make some educated guesses. Both her parents are Celestial Being members-- her father was a mechanical officer in the European Union's military when he was given the choice to join after seeing some things he shouldn't have, while her mother was recruited at sixteen or so, because of her presumable scientific and engineering prowess. This means that Mileina has been raised in the environment of Celestial Being all her life, most likely on Krung Thep, their secret space colony. Likewise, it can be assumed that she has such an advanced skillset for her age because of her parents teaching her-- it's unlikely that she ever went to any sort of organized school, what with being in a secret organization, and probably learned piecemeal from whatever her parents deemed important. (It begs the question of how much of subjects like spelling and history she was ever taught, despite knowing postgraduate level physics.)

[CANON] Mileina Vashti | Gundam 00 | No reserve | 2/2

[personal profile] areyoulovers 2013-11-11 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
Abilities: Mileina has knowledge of computer operations, communications, mechanical engineering, and quantum physics. Of course, since she's used to 24th century technology, it's debatable how useful those skills would be in Ruby City.

First Person: [ The watch is pointed at a fairly nondescript building. Nothing would catch anyone's eyes about the video at all, except that the view shakes up and down two or three times. A sigh is heard, and then a small hand comes into view and lifts the watch up so Mileina can peer at it. ]

Oh! That's a little bit embarrassing! It must have come on while I was jumping. I was testing the gravity, you see. It's going to be very difficult to get used to!

[ She smiles at the video, and shakes her head, pigtails bouncing. ]

Oh, not that I mean that this is a bad place. For instance, I've never had as many blueberries as I want to eat before! Somehow persuading plants to grow in zero-gravity conditions causes some very peculiar mutations, so they were really only imported for special occasions...

[ But she's apparently a little preoccupied, because her voice trails off and she bites her lip. Her eyes focus somewhere offscreen for a moment, and she seems thoughtful. ]

You know, there are so many design features about these watches that really aren't very practical... Maybe I could add a locking mechanism? I understand the need for user-intuitive design, but there's really nothing to prevent it from turning on at will, and there are many people who I'm sure value their privacy very much!

[ She continues to tilt the watch back and forth and press buttons, muttering to herself, until it turns off. ]

Third Person: Mileina peered out from behind the building, breathing a little heavily. She had just run across the street, and was currently eying the opposing rooftop closely. She was doing everything her parents had told her to do if she found herself in a hostile situation, but so far she didn't think the situation was hostile at all, which was even more perplexing! She hadn't seen anyone at all in her walk from the strange, old-fashioned train station, which was probably better than seeing any combatants, but didn't help her one bit.

She didn't bother to run across the next street, taking the time to peer into some of the windows, cupping her eyes around her hands to see through the darkened glass. They were all empty of anything but furniture, and told her absolutely nothing. Crouching down on the doorstep of one of them, she reached into her pocket and pulled out her communicator, her constant companion on the ship. She knew what it would say, but she couldn't help turning the screen on again, just to make sure that the blinking OUT OF RANGE indicator was still there. The battery had dropped to 39%, maybe because of the effort it was putting into locating a signal, so, biting her lip, she powered it off. It was undoubtedly how her parents would get hold of her, once they realized she was missing, but...

Tears prickled at the corner of her eyes, but she wiped them away before they could get any ideas. She was a certified tactical operator, and practically a real adult by now, and trained to perform under any sort of dire situation! It was just that, well, she was trained to perform on a ship's bridge during dire situations, or maybe in an engineering bay, and Papa was almost always within shouting distance, and the bridge was always staffed with at least two, and she was starting to realize that working in stressful situations was easier when you knew what you were supposed to be doing.

She stood up, and started down the street until she came to a crossroads. Down one way, a few people were sitting outside a cafe; she was too relieved to be nervous, even though they were wearing very peculiar clothing. Besides, this was a situation she knew how to deal with, her parents had drilled her very certainly in this! She had a codename and a cover story all memorized, and surely those people would know where they were, and from there it was perhaps a short ride to a city, where she'd be on much firmer ground!

She nodded to herself firmly as she set off. She had just known that if she kept walking she'd find something, and here it was! Things were looking up already.

[personal profile] devwocean 2013-11-12 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
CHARACTER
Name: Orphaner Dualscar
Canon: Homestuck
Age: Not established in canon, but I think he's probably a couple of hundred sweeps old.
Timeline: Immediately after his death at the hands of the Grand Highblood.
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: N/A

Personality:

Dualscar is an intelligent troll, with centuries of battle experience, making him an excellent tactician and commander. He is a loyal - possibly fanatically loyal - subject of the Empire, and definitely loves his power and prestige. He is a sea dweller, making him second in blood only to the Condesce herself, and that is a fact that he takes great pride and pleasure in.

He believes strongly in the essential rightness of the hemospectrum, in the inherent superiority of his blood over others, and that lowbloods are essentially intelligent animals who need a strong hand to guide them. They are tools to be used for the purpose for which they were created - to serve, to fight where directed, to die if they are not useful, or become unmanageable. Part of this belief is simply due to his upbringing, and partly because if he were to accept that lowbloods - in their numbers - were equal to sea dwellers, he would lose everything that he has in life. After all, he stands at the pinnacle of troll society, and he will push off anyone who tries to threaten his position, and not care if they fall to their deaths. His moral compass is survival of the fittest, and he is very fit.

Dualscar, being a highblood troll, has little to no conscience when it comes to murder or destruction. If someone annoys him, he may kill them. He has the inherent right to do so, because of who he is, and by the moral compass of his race there is no reason for him to feel guilty. He has murdered thousands of lusi, orphaning an equal number of trolls - and likely dooming them if they can't take care of themselves - as well as many thousands of trolls, either directly or indirectly in battle. It's possible that he has wiped out entire civilizations, as his armies conquered worlds and brought them under his Empress' heel.

All that being said, Dualscar is certainly not devoid of emotion or personal pain of his own. He is a very lonely person, isolated because of his position and because of the demands of his society. He doesn't really understand redrom - so focused on being the strongest and keeping his position against war, competition, and potential assassination, that he can't imagine how someone could weaken themselves enough to be pitied, and not be killed. He sees betrayal at every turn, and is honestly frightened of intimacy. So the only way in which he can feel a connection with another individual is through hatred and violence, yet this only fulfils him to a certain degree. Though he doesn't understand why, his life is empty and lonely, which only makes him more emotionally messed up.

This loneliness makes him an extremely jealous, needy lover. He can't stand that someone who is literally his whole world - Mindfang - seems to be happy to throw him aside on a whim. She has had many lovers, while he has had very few, and he is far more devoted to the relationship than she seems to be. Part of this disparity is played up by Mindfang purely because she knows it gets to him, but a lot of it is real. She enjoys her rivalry with him, but is fine with tossing him aside, while Dualscar's jealousy that she might choose a worthless slave over him (even though she actually HASN'T) drives him straight to his death. Though it is not normal for trolls to be exclusive - they are supposed to have romance in four different categories with a total of five different other trolls! - Dualscar is a monogamist in a polygamist society. At least, he demands monogamy from his multiple partners, and in that he's inevitably disappointed.

Background: General plot info Info on Dualscar on this page

Abilities: Dualscar is an experienced military commander, and an accomplished fighter, both with the sword (headcanonly) and his rifle, Ahab's Crosshairs (canonly). He can breathe water, as he has gills, and (unlike Eridan) he is at home in both the water and the air.

[CANON] DICK GRAYSON || DC Comics || no reserve || 2 of 4

[personal profile] niqhtwinq 2013-11-16 10:11 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: Having been born and raised in a circus can have an interesting effect on someone’s personality, as evidenced by one Dick Grayson. He was basically bred for the center lights, and can often come off as a show-off. Body language is his strong point; where words might fail him, his body will fill in the story. He’d rather do a couple of flips off of a balcony than have to explain himself in any length with words.

Dick is also very honest and wears his emotions on his sleeves. He’s not very good at lying, and doesn’t like to anyway. His heart is huge and he loves almost everyone he meets. It’s very rare for him to find someone he honestly just flat out hates. With close friends and family, he tends to be really touchy-feely and he doesn’t realize it. Occasionally he might cross a line with someone and get too close, but it’s an honest mistake and he doesn’t mean to get too far into anyone’s personal space or business.

Despite being the adopted son of the Dark Detective, Dick isn’t exactly a thinker. It’s much harder for him to think things through completely and he isn’t as logical as the others in his life. He’s much more simple-minded, a whatever goes kinda guy. That being said, he does have a strong sense of justice and does what he can to crack down on those who do wrong to the weaker folk.

As honest as he is, it can sometimes be easy to step on other people’s toes; he gets too close and says speaks his mind when others might not agree. He tends to move before he speaks, and he speaks before he thinks. . . only to realize he might have hurt someone along the way after it’s all said and done. Because of this, he can sometimes lose the people he holds most dear and it breaks him apart.

Training with the Dark Knight also made him into an excellent leader. Dick Grayson has years of experience being a team leader, to the point that he almost hates the role. But he knows when it’s needed and he isn’t afraid to step up to the plate. He has a wonderful way of instilling confidence in those around him and many people look up to him because of it.

Unfortunately, the main qualification to being a part of the BatFamily is that you’re really screwed in the head. Dick Grayson, despite being quite a leader, also suffers from confidence issues. He’s never quite sure what he’s doing is the right thing, or if he’s overstepping any lines and getting himself in trouble. His entire life, he’s had large shoes to fill with his parents in the circus and then being adopted by Bruce Wayne. Even out of the costume, he’s the ward of one of the richest men in the world. Public light is always on him, and while he doesn’t mind it, there’s always a dark shadow in the back of his mind nagging away at him. Dick never feels like he’ll be able to take the role he’ll need to when the time comes.

In the end, the most important thing on Dick Grayson’s list is to care for his close family and friends. Sometimes to a fault - he won’t hesitate to put himself on the line for someone important to him. It’s truly the people in his life that make him happy and he strives to make sure they’re safe and sound, no matter what the cost.

CHARACTER
Name: November 11 (aka Jack Simon aka Mr. Smith aka who knows what else)
Canon: Darker than Black
Age: Given the implied timeline of his career, it's likely he's in his late 30s.
Timeline: If it's possible, I'd like to take him from towards the end of episode 22 ("City Under Crackdown, Moist with Tears Part 2" yes the episode titles are that overwritten). After he's confronted Decade and been shot, but before he actually...dies from those gunshots.
(If this isn't feasible, I can pick another canon point.)
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: n/a

Personality:
Conventional wisdom holds that Contractors such as November 11 are purely rational beings, lacking in all emotion, interested only in themselves, and retaining what personalities they might have only out of habit.

This is not entirely accurate.

It's true that Contractors loose most, if not all, of their emotions, frequently becoming extremely logical and self-interested. And November lives up to that, for the most part. He takes pride in being a Contractor. He makes rational decisions. He plans in order to gain the most from situations. He is loyal because it makes sense to exercise a certain amount of loyalty- it makes it easier to gain from the cooperation of those you are loyal to.

But over time Contractors can regain some emotion, some illogical or selfless motivations. Over time people you know well can become friends. November would say that he always acts on his own behalf, but he has grown capable of acting on behalf of those he has become close to. As for who he can become close to, it's mostly people whose intelligence and skills he can respect. His teammates, April and July, aren't as rational or communicative as he likes to be. But he recognizes their ability and reliability, and works closely with them as a formidable unit who may also be "friends." He's also seen to develop something like a friendship with Misaki Kirihara, whose skill and devotion as a professional he can respect and trust.

November himself is extremely intelligent and observant. He seldom enters a situation without a plan, and usually has a backup plan to go with that plan. He prepares for the worst- for example he'll expect people to go back on deals or for someone in another government to leak information. He is quick to put information together to form likely pictures of the whole, he's very good at figuring out what games and roles others are playing. It makes him well-suited to his line of work, even without his abilities as a Contractor.

He is, as one might expect, capable of being extremely ruthless. If someone gets in the way of the mission, he'll kill them. If someone is likely to get in the way of the mission further down the line, he'll kill them. He displays no qualms about this, or about other things such as tying a person up and stuffing them in a suitcase. It's part of getting the job done.

But in many ways he manages to come off as kind. He's quite polite, though he also has a tendency to assume a bit more familiarity than is appropriate. He'll be as helpful to others as the mission allows, and he'll avoid situations in which bystanders could be harmed whenever he can. (In fact, he even shows an instinct to protect coworkers and allies, shielding them from harm on multiple occasions.) In spite of his ability to treat people as objects, it's clear from early on that there may also be lines he'll refuse to cross- and that turns out to be the case. It's a rational thing, he would claim, (after all allowing collateral damage simply makes things more difficult) but the truth is that in a reasoned way he can be altruistic, acting rationally not only in self-interest but for the general interest. He usually gets along well with people, when he's not needling them, and isn't suspected of being a Contractor until he uses his powers. This is all rational to him as well, but it's done with a charming attitude and a nice little smile that can make others well-inclined.

...Of course, he'll also have that smile while killing people. So "kind" really isn't the best word for it.

In addition to slowly developing some deeper emotions, he has maintained a number of personality quirks. He hates smoking, and will tell you why in great detail. He also gets a little annoyed at people who take delight in their vices or who can enjoy their payment (goddammit April do you have to enjoy that beer so much while he's choking on this cigarette). Probably out of an interest in other peoples' reactions, he frequently makes deadpan black humor comments, which are as unappreciated as they are tasteless. He tries telling regular jokes as well, even though he can't pull them off. His voice mail message? Tells you to tell him a joke. He definitely has a tendency to troll people. Does that ringtone reflect a love of salsa music or a desire to see how people react to suddenly having something that loud playing? Maybe it's both. He dresses for the role of top spy, in impeccable suits frequently accompanied by sunglasses. Some of this, of course, might be deliberately enacted quirkiness, but if they're lies they're lies he's completely at home with.

Contractors are sometimes accused of being nothing more than weapons. November 11 may be one, but it's on his own terms.

Background:
His real name is unknown. It could actually be Jack Simon, but that seems unlikely. Anything about his life before ten years ago is unknown, with the exception of the fact that he is British. What is known is that ten years ago when the Gates appeared, he became a Contractor, with the ability to freeze any liquid he comes in contact with. He was either already working for or was subsequently recruited by the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6), and given the code name November 11. He has certainly been working for MI6 for over five years, as he was in the Service before the Heaven's Gate incident, during the time that the woman codenamed February was working with them.

He has worked with fellow Contractor April, who can create rain, and the Doll July for a long enough time that they have become a fairly close team. He travels frequently on missions and assumes many covers, sometimes as a private citizen, sometimes under diplomatic cover. He is known as MI6's top agent. From what we see in canon, it can be presumed that most of his work deals with Contractors who serve foreign powers. Their work tends to be active and short-term.

After a series of unexpected events in the case of the Forfeiter (a Contractor who has lost their powers) Havoc prevented the successful handover of her to the international agency PANDORA, November 11 and his team were assigned to Tokyo to investigate the mysterious "Syndicate" that had messed things up. In the process, they also began to uncover information about the terrorist group Evening Primrose, which was led by February (now preferring the codename she had gotten from the Syndicate, Amber). After some attempts on the lives of the team, it is implied that November began to figure out that many of the members of the Syndicate were actually government officials (hence why he goes missing, unable to be contacted by the S.I.S.). He went to Evening Primrose for more information, and learned of the Syndicate's plot to erase all Contractors from existence. Following that, he confronted his superior at the S.I.S, Decade, managing to kill Decade and his bodyguards but getting seriously shot for his trouble.

Abilities:
As a Contractor, November 11's particular ability is to freeze any liquid he is in contact with (direct or indirect). If you're standing in water, he'll freeze you to the spot. If you're not standing in it, he might form a short spear out of ice and stab you with that. Of course, he's also completely willing to go with freezing all the blood in your body. That's an option too.

There's a catch though- a Contractor always has to make a payment in exchange for using their powers. November's is that he has to smoke. He's not happy about that.

He has skills beyond superpowers, though. He's a top spy for a reason- November is very good at gathering information and piecing it together. He won't discount any information if it's credible, which is probably a major factor in how he put together so much about the Syndicate (he wouldn't exactly have a horrified reaction and refuse the possibility that his boss could be betraying him, after all). He learns fast, prepares, and doesn't make the same mistake twice (sorry Chinese electric Batman, this Brit bought some rubber boots to counter you after that first fight).

First Person:
["Jack" has his usual affable (empty) smile as he turns the watch on. It's a bit dark in his apartment, apparently, but he's well-lit enough. A telescope rests on the window ledge behind him.]

I had thought that seeing the stars again after ten years would be exciting, but the novelty wore off quickly. Perhaps it would be different if I had ever bothered to memorize constellations.

[His smile broadens, as if he thought of something funny, though his voice remains relaxed.] The real stars do stay in place much better than fake ones we had.

[He shifts in his seat, so that he can see the window and the watch at once.] Does anyone know if these are the same stars from Earth, or are they unique? That would say something interesting about where we really are. I'm curious.

Thank you for indulging me. [He reaches over to the watch with a neat gesture, and the feed ends.]

Third Person:
November 11 considered the bottles lined up behind the bar. Uniformly cheap- not a surprise in a dive like this.

Well, that would make it less of a waste if he had to use it, which April at least should appreciate. He smiled slightly.

There was movement, evident in the sound of creaking hinges and shuffling feet. Someone had come into the bar, finally shifting the attention of a few of the patrons away from the new man in the white suit. November examined the newcomer's reflection in the mirror that hung above the bottles with no regard for safety. Mid-forties, dark hair going grey, tall but portly, a nervous disposition. Yes, that would be his contact.

The man sat down on the stool next to November. "Are you George Williams?" He spoke out of the side of his mouth, looking everywhere but at November. Painfully obvious, and certain to stick in the memory of some of the bar patrons. That would have to go in the report later.

"I am," November said easily, leaning back and smiling at the man as he waved for the bartender. "Care for a drink? It's on me."

"Oh, yes, thank you. Uh- whiskey." November watched as the man accepted the glass from the bartender with relief, taking a large gulp.

The man wasn't used to this line of work. November had been warned about that. But this level of discomposure was concerning. Surely any organization would have emphasized the importance of taking more care, would have given him a little basic training. Of course, the man could be under stress from another source as well.

November's eyes flicked briefly down to the glass in his own hand, still full. He was prepared.
