✗ Before applying, please read the FAQ and Rules pages.
✗ Please submit your application with the journal you plan to use if you have one made already. If not, another journal is fine, but we prefer your intended journal so it makes for an easier time in granting access to the mod journal and the contacts page.
✗ For very long applications, we would ask you to please separate them into various comments so that they will not take up too much of the page.
✗ Please title your application as { [CANON/CANON OC/OC]CHARACTER NAME || Series Title || reserve/no reserve || X of X } in the subect header
IMPORTANT: Our application form was edited on September 07, 2015. Please use the revised form.

A note for CR AU applications
Ruby City does allow previous game history/CR to be brought over on a case by case basis. If you want to include this in your application please add additional sections for PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT and PREVIOUS GAME HISTORY beneath the Personality and Background/History sections.

In these additional sections we would like to see a brief outline of your character's previous game history and how it potentially impacted on and altered their canon personality.

[personal profile] trenchdoting 2015-03-10 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality:

"Whoop! I love my job! Who cares if the clues I find are no good?"

Dick Gumshoe is a friendly detective who tends to address everyone as 'pal'. He can often act very mellow, but with his moments of hotheadedness whenever he gets excited about something. As a detective, he is not a particularly smart one and he is in fact prone to making mistakes or jumping to conclusions in his eagerness to carry out his duty. He has a poor attention to detail, which has often resulted in his testimonies being trampled upon in court, although this is often balanced out by the intellect of his usual superior, Miles Edgeworth. He still demonstrates an inflated sense of self-importance, sometimes describing his cross-examinations as clashes between rivals. Gumshoe is an unconventional cop in many ways. He's frightened at the sight of blood, and he also hates using guns. He seems to like guns as a symbol more than as the actual weapon it is (...he even thinks that letting a child hold a gun will cheer her up). This is all part of Gumshoe's childish and naive nature. This is also reflected in how he often seems to compare his job to the ideal images of cops portrayed in media. In particular, he takes glee whenever he gets to say 'lines' that cops often get to say on television, and he likens his friendship with Edgeworth to a friendship between a cop and a prosecutor on a soap opera he watches. He's also prone to odd tangents that further distract him in his investigations, such as wondering why "truer" and "beller" aren't words in the sense that "liar" is.

"Only Gumshoe would praise a door as something greater than himself…"

He's a long-suffering fellow, although he can often smile through his troubles. Gumshoe is used to living in poor conditions and so is somewhat of a glutton for punishment. This is partly because his pay has been continually cut for his competence issues, and he has even been temporarily fired from the force on at least two occasions. His poor pay has forced him to live on a diet of almost purely instant noodles, which he happens to have grown sick of. This gluttony for punishment also extends into his professional life. He can be subservient to a fault towards prosecutors like Miles Edgeworth and Franziska von Karma, even though the latter's whip makes him more miserable. Sometimes, he does what he can to avoid unpleasant confrontations, at the very least, such as when he uses the sound of Franziska's tracking device as a signal that he should get moving before he gets whipped. At times, he does complain and grumble about his conditions, but more commonly he seems to try to continue to be cheery and to find the silver lining in most situations. Even a little thing like being able to salt his noodles is something that can make Gumshoe's day.

"In the name of love, a man will soil himself silly."

Even though he is quite accident-prone, Gumshoe's primary strength is that he has a good heart underneath it all. Largely, this is shown through his dynamic with Miles Edgeworth. He dotes on the prosecutor, makes a habit of cleaning the office and is sensitive to a number of his needs, including his fear of earthquakes. At the same time, Gumshoe tends to see people as ideals and miss out on details, so there's a lot he doesn't truly understand about Edgeworth at the same time. He also can get sympathetic with the defense in a number of cases, and on different occasions he's put his job or his life on the line in order to help out Phoenix and Maya, even though they're enemies in the courtroom. He seems to get along well with kids because of his childish nature, and he can become protective of them, especially in the case of Kay Faraday. He even withstood a murder accusation once just in order to protect one of Kay's 'secrets', which simply was that she had technically violated one of her late father's instructions. Gumshoe might not be the best at what he does, but he'll always push himself to do what's right whenever he realizes what that is. Sometimes, he'll manage to come through in a pinch with just the right piece of evidence... or he'll end up crashing into a tree first.

Background: Ace Attorney Wiki

Abilities: Gumshoe is an average human with a few skills to his name. He has all the training of a police detective, even if he's very sharp and almost never uses his gun. He can be resourceful and was able to build his own functioning bug detector when he was younger. He also seems to boast some carpentry skills, as shown in how quickly he was able to rebuild Dusky Bridge. ...He also can somehow recall the scientific names of random plants.

CHARACTER
Name: Morgan
Canon: Fire Emblem: Awakening
Age: 18 (Apparent.)
Timeline: It's unclear from what universe Morgan was torn and brought to the canon timeline of Awakening due to the mysterious case of amnesia, but in this case, she's from a timeline where the Avatar marries Anna the Merchant and begets her.

Personality: Among the company of children in Fire Emblem: Awakening, the Female Morgan is second only to her alternate Male self (if the Avatar was female) in her optimism and blithe attitude. Tending to find positives in experiences and making light of situations, Morgan is a playful and silly character in her support conversations with her parents and her friends. She's often found playing pranks on them, such as her repeated attempts to outwit the Avatar with tricks and puzzles, and often making odd, whimsical decisions, such as banging her head repeatedly against wooden planks in order to jog her memories of her relations. Despite this, she remains sharp as a tack with a wit clever enough to match that of her father's. Morgan also inherits frugal and rather materialistic attitude in some senses from her merchant mother, though she can barely remember her.

As a sister, Morgan is a genuinely diligent and caring sister, though still playful and somewhat sardonic. In this case, however, Morgan doesn't have a sibling-- at least, not one that she remembers. With her friends, Morgan tends to have more of a sadistic sense of humor, poking fun and making jabs at them from time to time, as evidenced in her support conversations with Inigo and Owain, for example, where she has the boys run absurd tasks just to see them struggle with them in some way. She's not the most sensitive person, nor does she spend much time offering help to others; rather taking pleasure in being a bit of a jokester, though her teasing may occasionally go too far, such as when she pulls on Yarne's ears just to hear him squeal.

What can be said for sure about Morgan is her enormous sense of self-motivation. Less magnanimous than her male counterpart, though no less cheery and energetic, she channels her energy into propelling herself ahead toward her goal of becoming a legendary tactician like her father, skilled and powerful. In such a way she exerts a more aggressive presence than her male counterpart, likely attempting to model herself after her father and the admirable traits she finds in him. In any case, she does carry the lineage of Grima in her bloodline, and given the right influences, Morgan is liable to fall into line with the promises of power and control that her blood would afford her should she bear the cultist's task of resurrecting the Fell Dragon Grima.

Background: Aside from the identity of her parents, Morgan's history is steeped in mystery by design of the game, and much is left ambiguous about her family life or the timeline she came from. As much history as is accessible for reading is located on her wiki at http://fireemblem.wikia.com/wiki/Morgan_(Awakening) .

Abilities: Morgan's initial skills show considerable aptitude in both swords and spells, quick with her hands to cast and strong and graceful in her swings, though her potential for growth as she studies and experiences more and more are limitless, blessed with an ever-expanding mind and palette for knowledge. She's a sharp and clever strategist, and knows her way around a marketplace to compete with the best when push comes to shove.

Network/Actionspam Sample:

[Morgan's golden eyes flicker between her sword and the expanse before her, where she could see a horizon.]

This place isn't so bad.

[Her own verbal reassurance coupled with the weight of the steel in her palm fills Morgan's cheeks with a bit of warmth in this dull late winter chill. It's starting to warm up, again. At least the weather makes sense. As she shifts in her stance and begins to walk again, she feels a jostle on her back as a hard wooden pole of white ash curled with a mystic lattice at one end bumps against the back of her head as she moves.]

E-eh. What the hell is-- Oh! Right... a staff, I have one of those! Hah.

[Despite the disconcerting feeling of not remembering where she is and what she was doing before she woke up, the girl breathes out steadily and closes her eyes to take in the dewy morning air. It's crisp, just the right temperature for her cloak and scarf to keep her warm.]

Mmm...it feels like a good day. I just know it. Heh-- this wouldn't be the first time I lost dad wandering away somewhere. I'll find him soon. You've got a way of leaving defeated enemies in your wake, anyway, dad. You're kind of hard to miss, even if you're the best there is. Maybe even because you're the best there is.

[She lets out a quiet chuckle as she draws out the magic staff from behind her back with her right hand; gripping her steel longsword in her left as she moves onward. Her strides grow more confident as she moves, her body responding to the familiar weight of her inanimate companions in sword and staff with easy, balanced steps that swish her shoulder length crimson red hair back and forth with her stride.]

[The telltale signs of erected stone peek over the horizon a few hours onward, and Morgan's traveled boots feel a firmness to the ground now, as if it's been well trodden. She takes in a deep breath.]

A city...awesome! I'll be sure to find dad there...let's go, then. Time's a wasting, Morgan. ...Kind of sad that I've got to talk to myself to keep me company. It's quiet out here. But I guess, for now, that means there's less to be worried about.

Prose Log Sample: It was a curious little thing. Insignificant, really, when she first felt it in her satchel. She'd seen little trinkets like it before, and seeing as she barely remembered her own father's name, it made sense that she probably picked it up somewhere along the way she wandered over to...wherever this was. Still, dad said it was always the little things you didn't think were relevant that come back to bite you. And this little thing she didn't think was relevant was scraping at her attention from the gentle bumps it made against her hip in her stride, rhythmic and sychronized like any harmonic motion. It was a watch, that was what they were called. Little gearboxes that ticked away time. Pretty little things they were, she could remember it. They were always only for rich folk, though.

The first time she opened the watch, that's what she saw. A clock face with hands pointing in different directions toward the numbers one through twelve. But it was the second time, where the opened little watch showed...nothing but a few words where the clock had once been-- that was disturbing to her. Whatever it was, it was strange-- adaptive, almost magical in nature. She was sure of it. With every step through the empty street of this dead town where she could only see shadows flit about, no matter how quickly she chased, her interest grew. It may have been some cursed device given to her by some dark mage in exchange for her father's soul-- but no, why would she ever trade father's soul for a cursed device?! It must have been something incredible, something remarkable. It had to be. So she had to open it. She had to find out.

A gloved hand slipped into her satchel to hold the circular disk-like object in her fingers, before pulling it out for her eyes to assay once more. It made a beeping noise, this time, as her thumb undid the latch for the cover, and the face where the clock had once been turned from black to white, then back to that text, again. Welcome to Ruby City, it read.

Yeah, Morgan decided. She'd probably sell his soul for something like this after all. Her hand rose to cover her mouth's silence-breaking chuckle as she looked down at the device. Well, the investigation would begin now. For better or worse.

CHARACTER
Name: Elizabeth Midford
Canon: Black Butler
Age: 13
Timeline: Shortly after Chapter 14: That Butler, Hunting
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: n/a

Personality: Lizzy seems, at the surface, to be what you would think of, when picturing a noble girl of her age. She acts spoiled, insisting the world around her fit to her specifications--This usually means that everything around her is to be 'cute', from people, to the setting around her. Refusing her threatens a temper tantrum, such as when Ciel refused to wear her ring, and she has a tendency to bulldoze over people in order to get her way.

She is not, however, heartless. When she goes overboard (which she does, often), she'll immediately repent, and apologize for her behavior. She has a good heart, being friendly with Ciel's staff, and her own servants. She cares greatly for Ciel, and spends much of her time trying to make him smile, and generally make him comfortable around her, such as when she asked for a new pair of heeled shoes to be traded for flats, as she knew that Ciel was sensitive about his own height.

In truth, her naivity and innocence is in large part an act. She was told by Madame Red, Ciel's aunt, that men wanted a helpless woman, not one that was smart, or handy with swords, like Elizabeth is. This was only further imprinted when Ciel confided in her that he thought that strong women were scary, and that he was glad that he was marrying her, instead of someone like her mother. Lizzy, always eager to please Ciel, took it to heart, and endeavored to become someone that he could protect.

However, her mother was not hearing any of it, and did not want to discontinue her lessons. The argument was interrupted by Ciel's apparent death, which Lizzy took incredibly hard. When he came back, and Lizzy realized that he was shorter than her, she pledged that she would protect him instead. Thus, her sword lessons have continued. She worries over him, and how he never seems to smile much anymore.

Not all of it is a facade, though. Lizzy truly does love to be surrounded by adorable things, and if possessing the ability, will make all around her fit her specifications. She is also still innocent and naive, though not as much as she acts. She is generally unaware of the situations the Ciel gets into, and has no knowledge of what unusual and unwordly kinds of things goes on in his life. She knows that Sebastian is hyper-competent, but how he has these skills is a mystery to her. She's aware, something is odd, and something changed in Ciel since he returned from his apparent death, but her trust in Ciel is total, and whatever he doesn't tell her, she trusts is for the best.

Background: Her wiki page

Abilities: Lizzy is a skilled swordswoman, her older brother commenting that she is even superior to him. She managed to kill multiple bizarre dolls, once she used her swordplay, and proved that she has no small amount of bravery, when she attempted to fight Grell as well. Sebastian stopped Lizzy from attacking her, however, probably for the best.

Network/Actionspam Sample:
[She has clearly been preparing for this video, and as she sets the watch down and settles into her chair, she's framed by beautiful floral decor, her dress and hair as perfect as ever. She can't quite make it look like a painting, like what she's more used to, but she'll make do with what she has. She gives her most dazzling smile to the watch, and speaks.]

Everyone! I have excellent news! Spring is finally here!

[She reaches past the camera, and pulls some flowers that had been recently plucked, burying her face in them.]

Aaah, look at all these colors! Isn't it so much better than that dull grey of winter? Everything is going to turn cute again...! And to celebrate nature being cute again, there's only one thing to do!

[She tosses the flowers up in the air, and grins at the camera as the colorful flowers rain back down, petals drifting after them.]

A ball, of course! A dancing party, and everyone is allowed! But they have to dress as cute as possible, lots of colors, lots of bows, and lots of frills and lace! Nothing boring is allowed!

[Ciel had, naturally, not been told at all. Surprise.]

Prose Log Sample:

Elizabeth's first impression of Ruby City was less than dazzling, to say the least. It was mostly the rain's fault, hammering down relentlessly, while she was still trying to collect her bearings from that odd train ride. A fortuitous awning under a shop (closed, for the day or permanently, she couldn't tell) provided a temporary shelter, as she tried to sort out just what had happened to her. She had gone to bed, in a perfectly ordinary manner, only to wake up upon that train, unceremoniously deposited out into the city. With no parents, no sibling, no maid in sight, she was in a position that she had never been in before. Alone, scared and confused, she fidgeted with her gloves as she watched the rain pour.

She could have been kidnapped, but it was a lousy job, if she did say so herself. Not that she would blame someone for wanting to. Not only was she the sole daughter to the Leader of the British Knights, but the fiancee to the Earl of Phantomhive--Ciel! Oh, she hadn't even thought of Ciel, how could she forget him? If there was anyone who could puzzle this out and rescue her, it would be him, the Queen's watchdog. And they would be searching for her, naturally. Yes, with her parents, Ciel, and Ciel's butler on the case, surely it wouldn't be long at all.

The words cheered her, somewhat, and she straightened up, feeling resolved. Until they found her, she would look out for herself, in this strange, soggy city. She stepped forward--Then, remembered the rain. Stepping out in it would ruin her hair, ruin her dress, and with Ciel no doubt coming for her...There was no way that she could allow herself to turn as soggy as the city. Drenched hair, mussed dress...She shivered, and shook her head. No, she couldn't let him see her like that.

"...Once the rain stops. Then I'll leave and figure this out!" She declared to the rain, hands clenched in determination. Seeing if more stores were open would be the best idea, trying to see where she was, if a message could be sent to London. If this was a haphazard kidnapping, it would be easy to get everything straightened out easily enough. No doubt this city had a noble looking over it, and they would want to stay on good terms with both her own family, and the one she would marry into. Doubtlessly, they'd house her, until Ciel could launch the daring rescue--That is, picking her up from wherever this was. She'd make sure to let him think it was a daring rescue, though.

This plan decided, and concluded to be solid, she leaned against the glass of the store, watching the rain, and feeling a little more optimistic.

CHARACTER
Name: Crona Gorgon | Ragnarok
Canon: Soul Eater (manga)
Age: 13 | ??
*canon age is unknown for both. It is assumed Crona is the same age as Maka Albarn & Co. Ragnarok's is completely unknown without any way of guessing at it.
Timeline: Chapter 99: Full Speed Ahead!
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: This is only to be used if are already playing another character from the canon you are applying for. For example, if you are apping Mario and you already play Princess Peach in the game, how will you handle their interactions without playercesting? n/a

Personality: (Crona Gorgon)
[Note: Crona was born male, but was largely a sexless test subject in the eyes of his own mother, who raised him. As such he doesn't 'get' the idea of gender differences in actions and speech. Crona just is... Crona. As such he will never refer to himself in 'speech' and internal thought as 'he' or 'she'. But in third person writing, I will refer to him as male. So unless a character sees him naked they will never have it confirmed as to what sex he is. Or, well, if Ragnarok blabs...

Also, Crona's psyche is unique in that as out of touch with sanity as he can be, and socially inept, he is incredibly innocent despite his violent past. Crona never learned that the thing he yearned for was 'affection' until he met Maka Albarn. And so his emotional development is stunted. Which in turn translate to his sexuality. He will never realize his sexuality until someone else acts as a catalyst to turning his mind into that direction. At that point he will find that he is pansexual, but until then he is asexual.
]

Crona Gorgon is the product of his raising. Or, rather, the product of his mother's obsessive, sociopathic tendencies. To understand Crona you have to understand his mother's view of him. Crona was not a 'child' but an 'object'. Owned and important only in as long as he served her purpose. Things such as the sex Crona was born with meant nothing. There was no love, nurturing or care. Crona was merely a test subject of Medusa's birthing. As such Crona has no sense of gender identity. Nor does Crona have a sense of sexuality. At thirteen, there is a chance he could gain one, but as of now he is asexual.

Crona is socially awkward at best. Concepts of kindness, caring and love are alien to him, though he's been shown them through friendship with Maka Albarn, Soul Evans, and their compatriots. Crona does not converse with ease and is a being riddled by anxiety, descending into highly depressive moods. He does not understand many concepts and is easily confused by them, prone to engaging in conversations with himself regarding these things - vocally - not understanding how this could be perceived.

In so many ways Crona is innocent and like a child, not understanding why some things might be bad to those around him. However, like a child, Crona is learning. He has learned enough to have a budding conscience, the groundwork of such laid by his interactions with those from Shibusen. There is a vast potential for Crona's growth as a person, however Crona has extensive trauma in his life. His mother constantly put them in situations to kill his humanity, including killing a favored pet with his own hands. Sensory deprivation, starvation and isolation were also methods used in this regard. So it is a sign of how strong Crona is at his core that after thirteen years of highly abusive situations by his own mother there is still a chance of redemption.

Crona can exhibit insomnia and paranoia. Unable to understand genuine kindness and will question motives. He cannot fathom there not being any motives. Crona craves physical comfort, but shuns and shies from physical contact. Crona is blunt and tactless, but without realizing it. Crona is also incredibly loyal and protective of those that he forms a connection to, in his own way. Crona also holds a sense of curiosity, tempered by a childhood where his curiosity never turned out well.

All in all, Crona is a neurotic, paranoid, slightly insane and damaged innocent soul. A soul who, at his core, really just wants to be loved.

Crona fears his mother. She is the most terrifying presence in Crona's entire existence. He loves Maka Albarn in the strongest platonic sense, the purest emotional bond Crona holds.

Likes: Maka Albarn, reading, poetry, music, being outside, light rain storms, sunshine, being around his friends, making Maka proud

Dislikes: His mother, Ragnarok's bullying, pain, bullying period, being confused, not understanding things, upsetting his friends, failing his friends, being forced into situations he does not understand, being forced to fight by others (Ragnarok & Medusa)

(Ragnarok)

Ragnarok is a symbiotic presence within Crona Gorgon, and as such his life is shaped by this. No longer with a body of his own, no longer able to function as his own person, his personality has warped more than it already was as a Demon Sword to begin with.

Ragnarok is a crass and rude being. Concepts of friendship and caring are foreign to him. Instead he thinks in terms of ownership, allies and enemies. Ever shifting with Crona his only true constant. As such he has a strange, abusive yet possessive relationship with Crona. He can be verbally and physically abusive to Crona and anyone around him, and tends to get particularly snappish with new people around Crona if they attempt actual friendships as opposed to mere allies.

Ragnarok has trust issues which show in his actions. As he views Crona as his, he tends to fear those approaching Crona with 'friendship' and 'kindness' as threats to take Crona away. However he is highly influenced by his meister, and as such his capacity to accepting others and forming friendships is dependent on the level of insanity his meister is currently feeling. However it is unlikely that Ragnarok will ever fully develop actual bonds of his own with others.

It should also be noted that the stronger of a hold Insanity has on Crona, the more silent and submissive Ragnarok becomes until he no longer speaks and seems to have nothing more than a passive sentience. Like Crona, Ragnarok fears Medusa Gorgon.

Likes: Tormenting Crona, fighting, eating souls, eating food, insulting others, instigating fights

Dislikes: Being trapped inside Crona, feelings, uppity people, Maka Albarn, Medusa Gorgon, fluffiness, happy emotions, romantic comedies, Lord Death

Abilities: [taken from wiki with minor edits.]
Black Blood
Crona's blood has been entirely replaced with 'Black Blood' which both protects Crona from physical harm and provides a degree of healing. Ragnarok, originally a normal weapon, was melted into the black blood before the transfusion, which causes their symbiotic nature. This also allows them to do attacks using the Black Blood exclusive to them.

Weaponry Skills: Swordsmanship Mastery/The Three Sword Style
Despite Crona's personality, he has been seen as a powerful swordsman and wields a powerful Demon Sword. Crona dons three versions of Ragnarok in sword form, the two additional swords held by appendages of Black Blood. He displays an unorthodox style, and Crona often uses erratic movements as well as his own Black Blood to combat an opponent. Crona's abilities are on the level of a master, but not by any means infallible. Truthfully, he has no formal training and his skills are all his own.

Thorn Vector Whip Mastery
Inherited by his mother, Medusa Gorgon, and combined with the abilities of Ragnarok, Crona has the ability to manipulate vector-like thorns in combat much like vector arrows. These Thorn Vectors are ridiculously strong. It is also fast enough to catch even the fast and agile by surprise. However, they are not indestructible, just take a great deal of spirit ability to do so.

Exceptional Soul Wavelength
Crona's Wavelength expands due to his insanity increasing. Showing that the more he sinks into insanity the stronger he becomes.

Other Skills
Resonance Flexibility: Crona is able to resonate his soul wavelength with others of varying compatibility.

Immense Durability: Due to the black blood within Crona, his durability is much above that of a human's. It is described that hitting Crona with ones bare hands feeling like punching lead. Crona's body is able to harden so that swords and sharp implements cannot cut through him completely, and is capable of stopping blades with his bare hands.

Techniques (w/Ragnarok)
Screech Alpha: Same as the Screech Beta but launched at the enemy as a projectile with explosive results.

Screech Beta: A powerful slash in the form of a mouth.

Screech Gamma: A multi-slashing attack that releases sound waves in succession.

Screech Delta: Crona uses his three arms to fire numerous sound waves in all directions.

Black Dragon: A soul resonance where Ragnarok absorbs all human soul eggs and morph into a dragon-form. All of Crona's attacks are enhanced.

Bloody Needle: This attack can only be performed when Crona's blood has been spilled, transforming it into black needles that stab through the opponent if they get too close. Crona's bloody needles are almost whirlwind-like shaped and can change direction to follow the enemy even if they miss the first shot.

Bloody Slicer: Crona will cut his own wrist and then make a flinging motion with the arm, when this happens Ragnarok will change the blood into a blade for medium ranged attacks.

Bloody Lance: With his writs cut, he flings it in a circle and a huge black-blood thorn appears in their front launching itself like a dart towards the enemy.

Bloody Coat: Crona manifests black blood and creates a cloak-like shield with it (with the bottom collar shaped like arrows). It is able to withstand substantial damage.

Mad Blood: Crona's lower half becomes bloated like a flower's bud with three kishin eyes on it. When hit, the target becomes trapped in a huge black-blood ball that emanates madness. This attack can grow powerful enough to swallow entire cities.

Rose Thorn Storm: This attack works the same way as Medusa's Vector Storm, with the addition of a few thorns sprouting blooming Roses made of black blood.

Thorn Defense: Crona's second defensive technique. Crona crosses his arms as multiple thorn arrows appear from beneath his robe and shoot upwards in front of Crona like a fence, allowing them to block multiple frontal attacks.

Network/Actionspam Sample: [An odd form is seen, odd for the fact a thin, lanky youth is seen with a slender black form appearing over their shoulder with a white 'x' on its face and white bulging eyes with black 'x' for a pupil in each. White gloved hands rest on slender shoulders, and the lavender haired youth steadfastly avoids eye contact with the camera.]

I didn't want to do this. Ragnarok wanted to...

[The black figure is seen pushing the youth's head down and away as it surges forward toward the camera, a large seam forming into an inhuman, wide mouth.]

Ignore the pathetic Crona. He's not the interesting one. I am! I am Ragnarok, the most fantastic Demon Sword in existence. All hail the great Ragnarok!

[The video feed cuts on Ragnarok's insane little 'gupi, gupi, gupi' laughter while Crona cringes and turns more fully from the camera while reaching out to turn it off.]

Prose Log Sample: Crona watched as the image of Maka faded away, the ball of Black Blood closing in to fully encompass the Moon with Crona and Asura within it. An eternal prison made for the Kishin and the one who would have been. Tears welled up in Crona's eyes as he let Maka go, pushing away at the hope of her words that she would find a way to free Crona. It was alright, because he was already saved. Maka had already saved him over and over.

"Its my time to save you now," he said to no one as the dome closed him in with only the insane for company. He knew that over time the insanity would eat away at him as well, leaving him unable to be saved ever again. But it was alright.

"Its going to be alright. Everything will be alright, Maka." Crona then closed his eyes and let the tears fall as his head bowed. He brought his closed hands in against his chest, just standing there as he mourned the life that could have been out in the sun with his friends, if only different choices had been made. If only he hadn't succumbed to Medusa and the madness. If only he'd been a stronger person, a better friend.

"Ragnarok. You can come out now. Won't you talk to me again?" Crona asked in a small voice. Without Maka, Ragnarok was all he had, and he'd been so quiet lately. Ragnarok was hardly ever quiet. It just wasn't in his nature to be. He had thoughts and opinions all his own and never shied from showing them. Now Crona feared that he would never hear them again and truly be left alone.

Then that all too familiar black form sprouted from his back and Crona gave a sob of relief as Ragnarok pushed down on his head further, looking away from Crona and his tears. "Stupid Crona, always crying, you crybaby." Crona smiled though he sobbed a bit harder, because at least now he wouldn't be all alone with the Kishin, Asura.

CHARACTER
Name: Anakin Skywalker (nickname is: Ani - never Annie)
Canon: Star Wars
Age: Almost 23 - he looks more than a bit battle-wary
Timeline: Shortly after Ahoska, his apprentice, is expelled from the Order (this is mid Clone Wars period at least about 7-8 months prior to the events of Ep III)
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: N/A

Personality: Anakin’s personality can be summed up nicely in one word: passionate. He wears his emotions broadly for all to see, defiantly and proudly. This manifests both in positive ways, and in many negative ways.

On the positive end of this spectrum Anakin is hard working, determined, and driven, and he will always fight for what he thinks is right (what is 'right', however, is highly subjective, depending on one's point of view). Ever since he was nine (almost ten) years old and taken from his mother on the planet Tatooine and placed into the care of Qui-Gon Jinn, he has wanted to become a Jedi Knight. They are the guardians of peace and justice (Anakin being more focused on the latter rather than the former) in the galaxy; and having experienced so much injustice prior to Master Jinn finding him, Anakin was particularly keen on joining a society dedicated to such virtues. Anakin doesn’t give up easily, even in the face of a challenge with seemingly insurmountable odds. One of his personal mottos is ‘There is always hope’, and he will do what he thinks is right. It is here his courage shines brightly, and it is for this reason the people of the Republic dubbed him ‘The Hero with no Fear’.

Anakin has within him the capacity to be quite compassionate; when those he cares about and loves are suffering he can’t help but act in their defense. Who he ‘cares and loves’ can be defined broadly, even those as disconnected form him as innocent bystanders. He loathes not being able to prevent harm from happening to anyone. It is from this compassion that springs his ability to be so loyal, when he’s made up his mind who to be loyal to. It is also from this place within him that he feels that strong sense of betrayal when those he cares about let him down. Because he puts so much of himself into his relationships (against the Code of his Order, no less) when those he cares about let him down (real or simply perceived) he feels it as a tremendous loss. The Order as a whole (and the Council as its representive) is one such source of disappointment. He has put so much of his energy into becoming a Jedi, to help and protect people (people who are like who he used to be - slaves, the abused, the damaged people of the Republic), but in return, the Order has rejected him - first quite literally when he was nine. But even after he was allowed in, he's never felt welcomed by the other Jedi. And as he's dealt with the Order, he's become disillusioned with their lack of actually helping people he personally identifies with.

He wants to love, and defiantly loves without compunction, often to his own detriment. He is attached to just about everyone in his life who shows him a modicum of kindness, and often doesn’t question their reasons behind those kind expressions. This want for affection and affirmation is not-so-subtly rooted in his upbringing. The Jedi, while wise and respectful of all living things, are, to put it frankly, terrible with emotions. Anakin was raised first by his mother who taught him love was a beautiful and good thing, and he learned early on it was something to be sought for and fostered. The Order, on the other hand, does not fulfill Anakin’s need for love. In this (and let’s face it, along with many other aspects of the Jedi) Anakin differs from his peers. However, he takes great pains to hide certain depths of his attachments, as he would surely be expelled from the Order should they learn the true extent of them.

Due to his passionate nature Anakin does like a healthy competition from time to time, often taking his skills to the extreme (such as pod racing or chasing bounty hunters through the heavy traffic of Coruscant). And he is not without a sense of humor, willing to accept a joke at his expense when justified, such as when his inability to maintain a working lightsaber for longer than a few months’ time is brought up. Though he does prefer to direct those jokes at others rather than field them about himself. It should be noted that his sense of humor is often at odds with others, and could be considered inappropriate at times, as he does find odd things funny.

Anakin has a complicated relationship with the concept of independence. The first half of his life has been marred by the experience of being a slave. The second half, though an argument could be made that it was better, was still subject to the Master/subordinate dichotomy. He does not know what life or independence means without rank. Though he fights tooth and nail for every inch of liberation that is given to him, he cannot help but always assess where he fits in the pecking order. He’ll show a certain kind of deference to that order, using proper titles and honorifics. Despite now being a Knight, and having a very personal relationship with Obi-Wan, out of respect (yes, he does respect Obi-Wan to some degree) and deference to Obi-Wan, Anakin has a difficult time not addressing him as ‘Master’.

However, whether this means he will obey those who out rank him is another thing altogether. Simply put, if he doesn’t feel like it he won’t. Some of the time ‘doesn’t feel like it’ means he feels obeying orders is simply wrong for the situation, and that the right thing to do involves going against the Council or instructions from Obi-Wan. Some of the time ‘doesn’t feel like it’ means he’s being a petulant brat.

Despite how his passions can translate into good actions, his negative qualities often hinder his good intentions.

He is entirely too reckless and gives little forethought to his actions or their consequences for himself or his loved ones. His hotheaded temper often leads him right into the thick of trouble (usually what one could call ‘aggressive negotiations’). His judgment can be clouded by his emotions, making it difficult for him to realize what he is doing before the completion of his actions.

This impetuousness is often intensified by his impatience and arrogance. He knows he is the most powerful Jedi of his age. These kinds of things tend to go to ones pretty, little Jedi Knights head. Anakin suffers from the Running Before One Can Walk syndrome. Due to the knowledge that he is quite powerful, he believes he can do all things before he’s mastered how to do them. And he is disappointed in himself more than anyone else when he fails – though, with his emotional growth truncated at ten years old (due to joining an Order that borders on the definition of a Cult, one that prohibits the healthy development of emotions and how to cope with them), he does tend to take his frustrations out on the people and things around him.

His belief in bringing justice to those who do not have it is what initially drew him to the Jedi Order, and that ideal is certainly a commendable one; however, he is a terrible fit for such an ascetic life. He can practice self-denial for those he cares about, but the Order requires more than the renunciation of claim to physical possessions - the Code forbids the formation of attachments to even other living beings. Anakin has half internalized these teachings, but he cannot bring himself to fully embrace them. In refusing to do so, he walks a thin line. He believes he’s entitled to love, and to be loved, but if the Order found out he would be expelled (and Padmé’s career and the help she brings to millions of people would be in ruins). The fear of losing Padmé and her love and all that they’ve carved out for themselves has made him extremely selfish about his relationships, and he guards all this jealously.

Daenerys Targaryen | A Song of Ice and Fire | Reserved | Part 2

[personal profile] gelenka 2015-04-04 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
“As Daenerys Targaryen rose to her feet, her black hissed, pale smoke venting from its mouth and nostrils. The other two pulled away from her breasts and added their voices to the call, translucent wings unfolding and stirring the air, and for the first time in hundreds of years, the night came alive with the music of dragons.”

Daenerys has come a long way since her first meeting with Khal Drogo. The trials she endured while at his side - and after his death - have shaped her into a powerful, outspoken, fearless woman. She believes she cannot feel the agony she felt when she lost her first love, Drogo, and their child, Rhaego, again. In her mind, she has overcome the absolute worst; therefore it is no surprise that she charges forward without fear and without hesitation only heeding the advice of those around her occasionally (and only if the advice pleases her). She is a true Stormborn now and her sights are set on ruling all of the Seven Kingdoms - something her ancestor did long ago.

"Why ask for truth when you close your ears to it?" - Ser Barristan Selmy

However while it is true that she can be downright rash at times - or, perhaps, brash is a better word, Daenerys has the intellect and wit to escape tight corners. She and Viserys were given the best education that could be acquired while they were in hiding - and Daenerys has not forgotten those crucial lessons. An example of her displaying her wit happened when she released the Unsullied and kept her precious Dragon (Drogon) in the process. She knew well that no one else could control her Dragons but her, yet she kept that important piece of information from her enemies. They paid for that mistake with their lives as they were baked in Drogon's fires. Furthermore, she also kept the fact that she is trilingual from them. While they spoke in Valyrian, she pretended to not understand them when, in fact, she understood every word.

In their own way, her children (i.e. her Dragons) give her even more confidence to charge forward and take what she desires as she makes her way to the throne of ultimate power. With her confidence comes sass, wit, charm and a fiery passion that seems to burn to her very core. But there are more than a few occasions where those traits seem to bring her more ill will - and trouble - than good. (For example when she determined where the khalasar should travel and they got lost in the desert.) Yet, thus far, she has evaded the shadowy arms of death.

"Keep walking. If I look back I am lost."

Even so there is a certain naiveté to Daenerys. She is young (by both book and series standards) and her cockiness blinds her to the dangers around her. Without her retainers like Ser Jorah, she would have succumbed to poison (thanks to Robert Baratheon) or worse. Yet she doesn't give them enough credit nor does she realize that her loneliness since Khal Drogo's death could be used against her. By choosing one of her trusted handmaidens as a lover (for a short while), she thought to avoid said danger, yet she knows she doesn't have time for love - no matter how much her heart might yearn for it. There is a softer woman behind the shield of steel she has fashioned around herself. If someone were to pierce it, she might be rendered vulnerable. Yet she remains blind to that possibility - certain that the worst is behind her - and that, in turn, has become her weakest attribute.

"I know that she spent her childhood in exile, impoverished, living on dreams and schemes, running from one city to the next, always fearful, never safe, friendless but for a brother who was by all accounts half-mad...a brother who sold her maidenhood to the Dothraki for the promise of an army. I know that somewhere upon the grass, her dragons hatched, and so did she. I know she is proud. How not? What else was left her but pride? I know she is strong. How not? The Dothraki despise weakness. If Daenerys had been weak, she would have perished with Viserys. I know she is fierce. Astapor, Yunkai and Meereen are proof enough of that. She has survived assassins and conspiracies and fell sorceries, grieved for a brother and a husband and a son, trod the cities of the slavers to dust beneath her dainty sandalled feet." - Tyrion Lannister

She cannot imagine failure - nor does she plan for it. However the pride she desperately hangs onto - and her vision of reigning over all of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros - are oftentimes balanced by her good heart. Ser Jorah Mormont comments on more than one occasion that she will be a great ruler because she can empathize with her people. In that way, she isn't above them - she is one of them. The slaves of the various cities certainly seem to agree with him after she frees them of their shackles - as do the Unsullied. She has the iron will of a conqueror, but at her heart, she is a mother. She does not sit idly while others suffer needlessly and she does not shy away from seeing justice done - no matter the consequences that may befall her for doing so in the future.

The world Daenerys envisions is one where right and wrong are clearly labeled (for example if someone owns slaves, they are clearly in the wrong). Punishment will be meted out for all offenses swiftly and every man, woman and child shall be free. She knows well what it feels like to be in a cage - and to be abused (thanks to Viserys). While she will always love her brother and thank him for his protection in her early years, she knows to her core that she will be a better ruler than he could ever hope to be.

"This Mother of Dragons, this Breaker of Chains, is above all a rescuer." - Tyrion Lannister

For the pain and fear she has endured at the hands of Robert Baratheon, Viserys Targaryen and those that sought to aid the Baratheons (and/or Lannisters), Daenerys reaches out and offers those in similar positions solace. She is not a Queen who rules by fear; she would rather be loved and respected. However, as her journey lengthens, she is beginning to realize that she cannot gain the love of everyone.

There will be betrayals - three of them - and a hard road ahead. But she promises herself that she will be strong - she will endure. She will not forget what Khal Drogo and the Dothraki taught her. Weakness is not acceptable and rulers, in times of crisis, must learn to stand alone in a sea of doubt. For her children, she will do so; for her brothers, she will do so; for her mother and father, she will do so; for herself, she will do so. There is nowhere to go except forward - even if she must leave fire and blood in her wake.

CHARACTER
Name: Nelyafinwë ("Nelyo")/Maitimo/Russandol (later known as Maedhros)
Canon: Tolkien's Legendairum (The Silmarillion)
Age: uh. uh. um. That's an excellent question uh. P...robably several hundred to a thousand plus years? (it's a little hard to say for sure) As an immoral elf, he appears to be 20s-ish
Timeline: As Melkor is starting to cause all sorts of trouble
Personality:
As a character, Nelyafinwë is beset with elder sibling syndrome, brought on in part (I'm sure) by having six younger brothers - some of whom could be... difficult to get along with, at times - and a father who could be very difficult to get along with. In a family of hotheads, Nelyafinwë seems to have been one of the cooler heads more often than not, maybe exactly because he was the first (and thus - at least for a little while - only) child of Fëanor and Nerdanel. Fëanor can be abrasive, and therefore those raised by him are fairly likely to have gone one of two ways, either growing up to be very similar to him or spending a deal of the day going "dad, dad no, dad, dad." Nelyafinwë seems to have taken the second route, and some of Fëanor's choices as a result left him clearly uncomfortable on-screen, which means it's a fairly sure bet that there were a deal more of these off-screen.

This is not to say that he does not value and is not close to his family, in fact it's literally the opposite. Just that sometimes he probably sat in a back chair way behind Fëanor going "dad no stop you're embarrassing us all." This nonwithstanding, it seems that for the sons of Fëanor family came first, to the point where they were willing to leave their home, kill their relatives, and damn themselves forever to stick together like a family should.

(Look I don't even know).

At times being one of the cooler heads in the family can make him positively cold; part of this is because he is profoundly task-orientated. He is extremely logical, and can be merciless in pursuing a goal. If he doesn't have something to do, he is lost. He needs a purpose, a list he can check things off of or a spreadsheet to follow, but if he's given a goal of any kind you can basically guarantee he'll get it done.

This doesn't mean he can't also display his father's temper, in part. He can easily get angry, or frustrated, and as is evidenced by his history he can certainly be violent, though that is far less likely to happen this early in his history than it would have later. He's stubborn and extremely unwilling to let up on a goal that he's had set, or has set for himself (usually with the larger goal of doing what he's "supposed" to do - he is the dutiful son).

All of Fëanor's children can, at times, be something of a study in contradictions - honorable, yet they commit genocide, loyal and yet look what happens with that. One of the few things you can always count on is that they look after each other. This is perhaps especially true for Nelyafinwë, who after all is a big brother and an older cousin in a family full of troublemakers. He is the good child, the responsible one, the one who can be counted on. He can be stern or merciful, quiet or commanding, but no matter what he is today you can always count on him to do as he says. He makes sure of that.

Background:
The vast majority of things that Nelyafinwë (or Maedhros, as he's known by the time most of it becomes relevant) is actually involved in take place after his pull point, but I'm going to briefly detail them anyway, for the sake of being through and to illustrate his character as well as possible. Admittedly it's not a perfect gauge, as he does go through a lot of character growth and changes a good bit because of it, but you can see foundations of how things started in his actions.

SO.

Let's start at the beginning, with the creation of elves. To make a very long story somewhat shorter, elves happened, monsters ate some of them, said monsters were mostly stopped, shortly after some of the elves decided to go back to Valinor the home of the Valar (basically gods) and chill with them. This is important because one of the elves who went back to Valinor to chill was Finwë, who unsurprisingly is Nelyafinwë's grandfather. (like literally every relative Finwë helped in the creation of is named after him you think I'm exaggerating but I'm not). Finwë married a lovely elf named Míriel, and together they had a son who was called Curufinwë (SEE? SEE?)/Fëanáro, or more commonly Fëanor, which is the Sindarin translation of one of his names.

I am sorry, all of these guys have like 12 names, and most of them are named after Finwë. To save on headaches for all of us, Curufinwë/Fëanáro/Fëanor is just gonna be referred to as Fëanor from now on - it's kinda the most accessible of his names.

SO ANYWAY. Míriel gave birth to Fëanor, but his spirit was so strong or something that doing so drained all of her energy and so a little while after she just died of it, because he'd taken all the strength from her that would have gone to other children (look I don't know, blame the Silmarillion, this is all in there). Finwë spent a while very sad because of this, but then after some time did something that was and is unheard of among elves, and remarried.

Elvish death isn't quite like human death, instead of dying 'out' of the world they die 'into' it, and so when their physical forms die their fëa (aka their soul) relocates to this very specific part of Valinor, the Halls of Mandos, and there they hang for a while until they decide to be reembodied or something. In Valinor though, because as far as we know with one exception (Glorfindel) elves who have died never actually go back to Middle Earth. Between this and elvish marriage involving a literal and very real mingling of the fëar of the participants, remarriage just isn't a thing. Elves are super married, and remain super married whether or not their spouses are dead. Only Finwë didn't for some reason, he met this other elf named Indis and fell for her and married her, and Míriel was so offended by the whole affair that she refused to come back from the dead.

Elves.

Finwë went on to have more children with Indis, two sons and two daughters, and for purposes of our story it's mostly the sons we're concerned with. The first of these is Ñolofinwë (I told you I was not exaggerating)/Aracáno, who is going to hereafter be known by his Sindarin name of Fingolfin, and Arafinwë/Ingoldo, hereafter known as Finarfin.

Fëanor, who was apparently offended on behalf of his mother, really didn't get along with his half siblings, and there was a fair amount of tension, especially between him and Fingolfin. Finarfin, who is literally the only sane member of this dumb family basically spent a lot of time trying to talk the two of them down after one of them went OH YOU WANNA GO? COS I'LL GO and then the other was like OH I'LL GO. I'LL GO.

Fëanor grew up to be a master smith and inventor, who did little things like invent written language because he was bored, and forge the light of the Two Trees - which the moon and the sun later came from - into three marvelous gems that everybody thereafter loses their freakin minds over, called the Silmarils. He married a sculptor named Nerdanel, who somewhat ironically despite being a redhead was a lot calmer and more even-tempered than him, and she sort of managed to rein him in for a while possibly just by dragging him off to bed to distract him every time he got mad or something idek man, they had seven sons. That is a lot for anybody, and that includes elves. Shortly after there was Nelyafinwë, who was followed by six - six - younger brothers (I could go into more detail here but trust me you really don't want me to). There were also lots and lots of cousins, as Fingolfin and Finarfin settled down and had kids as well. Thankfully there's only one of these who is super relevant for purposes of this app, Fingolfin's eldest son, Findekáno (Fingon), who was Nelyafinwë's BFF.

Everybody spent a while more or less getting along in Valinor, and living pretty good lives. The elves in Valinor learned and sang and grew and built cities and made beautiful things and rode and laughed and hunted and swam and basically it was the Good Life.

Enter Melkor.

Let's rewind for a bit of context. Remember those monsters who were hanging around eating elves when elves first happened? Yeah, it was this guy who created them (and lots of other things but suffice it to say that he's basically in-canon Satan). Back in the day, when the other Valar rode off to rescue the elves from said monsters, they also dragged Melkor back to throw him in jail, because no, Melkor, that's bad, you're supposed to play nice with Eru's other creations. After Melkor had served enough of his sentence for a chance at parole, however, Manwë (the Vala in charge) came down for the parole board hearing and asked why they should let him go. Melkor was like "I learned my lesson, I'll behave!" and Manwë was like "how can we know you're being honest?" and Melkor was like "WELL I SAID, DIDN'T I" and so Manwë was like "FAIR ENOUGH so you did okay take care have fun out there."

(Manwë no.)

Melkor was released on condition of good behavior, and so for a while he pretended to play nice. He hung around the elves a lot, taught them cool things, stalked Fëanor because he really liked his jewels, taught the elves some cool things, subtly spread poisonous lies to make everyone hate each other and internal fighting and tension start off to ruin everything, you know, normal stuff. And this is when Nelyafinwë is being pulled. After he's pulled a whole lot more happens.

Tensions between Fëanor and Fingolfin get to be worse than normal as basically there's thoughts going around of them trying to become Dad's Favorite Son, until finally they actually get into a fight and Fëanor draws his sword on Fingolfin. The Valar are like WHOA THERE SLOW DOWN and nobody blames Melkor despite the fact that he's honestly the start of the problems, because he was good at being very sneaky about it. Instead Fëanor is banished for a while, so Finwë is like 'well fine if my son can't come to the parties I won't go either. Melkor tried to trick Fëanor into giving him the Silmarils, which at that point Fëanor was actually so overly possessive about that he didn't want anybody except his dad and his kids to even see the things, and Fëanor told Melkor just where he could stick it. But Melkor still really wanted the jewels. SO HE DECIDED TO TRY ALTERNATIVE METHODS.

One night there was a special party that the Valar decided Fëanor could in fact come to, but he was still banished so Finwë declined to come, instead he decided to stay home. As it turned out this was a mistake, because halfway through the party Melkor busted in, riding on the back of a giant spider. Said spider ate the two trees that the tree goddess had made to be the source of light for the world before the moon and sun happened, whose light was forged into the silmarils, and then drank the pools of light that said trees had created, and also while running around ruining everything robbed Fëanor's house and killed Finwë and then raced across the sea to Middle Earth while Melkor blasted death metal and shouted YOLO.

Yes.

Tree-goddess was like "hey could we please have the silmarils if I had the silmarils I might be able to bring the trees back but there's just no way otherwise :(" and Fëanor was like "CRAI MOAR THEY ARE MINE" (Fëanor stop) and went back home. Which. You know. Actually changed nothing with regards to the trees because Melkor had already stolen them but hey if Fëanor hadn't been so set on nobody else getting them things might have gone better in the long run.
