A note for CR AU applications
Ruby City does allow previous game history/CR to be brought over on a case by case basis. If you want to include this in your application please add additional sections for PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT and PREVIOUS GAME HISTORY beneath the Personality and Background/History sections.

In these additional sections we would like to see a brief outline of your character's previous game history and how it potentially impacted on and altered their canon personality.

[Canon] Celty Sturluson || Durarara! || Reserve || Returning Application

CHARACTER
Name: Celty Sturluson
Canon: Durarara!
Timeline: Returning with her memory of her previous visit intact, but she's now gotten to the end of the anime and has the gang war arc behind her. The novels continue the story from there.
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: N/A

Personality: There is an urban legend in Tokyo's district of Ikebukuro known as the "Black Rider". A black motorcycle that goes without lights on and makes odd noises, ridden by someone dressed in black, save for their yellow helmet. Some even refer to this legend as the "Headless Rider", claiming that the person riding the motorcycle is not human.

The truth of the matter is that this is all absolutely true. Celty is a Dullahan who has journeyed over from Ireland in search of her missing head. The motorcycle is actually her horse Shooter, disguised via her powers. In the rare occasions where it takes horse form, it has no head as well (this is more thematic, while hers has gone missing entirely). She has lost her memories of her time before losing her head, not knowing where it is, but having a vague sense of where it may be.

Since coming to Ikebukuro and making various connections there, she has taken on the roll of a courier and has acclimated well to her surroundings. She is also a member of a street gang known as The Dollars. Unable to communicate vocally, she does so by typing messages into her phone and showing it to people. The phone itself is a gift of the scientist whom she lives with, and considers it a treasured possession.

She spends a good deal of time online and in chat rooms. She enjoys watching scary movies and alien autopsy documentaries, but usually winds up scaring herself instead. The only thing she fears more than aliens are traffic cops. She also has a concern that splits her main reason for being in Ikebukuro: On the one hand she wants to get her head back, for fear that she may lose herself without it as she is having trouble remembering what it looked like, but at the same time is not sure who she may become if she got it back and had her memories restored.

PART 2

[personal profile] lookingforhead 2012-11-16 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)

First Person: [Coming to on the train was one of the more disturbing moments of her brief remembrance. She had been on a courier run....had she? A quick patting down found her phone in her pocket which was reassuring, but that was quickly lost when she couldn't get a message through to Shinra or anyone else. There was nothing else on or around her that seemed to imply any sort of job she had been on.]

!!

[Standing up, she quickly moved through the train car towards the back, following the sensation of the presence of her horse. She found the motorcycle in the storage car, looking similarly distressed. Patting it and comforting it, she guided it off the train and looked around. Wherever this was, it wasn't Ikebukuro.]

Third Person: Celty guided her horse through the streets of this new city, urging it on silently as she took in her surroundings. The motorcycle rolled on, only making brief whinnies that echoed her own discomfort at the sudden change, but as they rolled on through the night they didn't seem to attract too much attention.

What could it have been that brought her here? Anesthetic had proven to be ineffective on her, so it couldn't have been humans. Maybe she'd finally run into another of her own kind? Perhaps this was a clue to where her head had gone...

'...Oh no...it's aliens! It has to be aliens! Aliens would be the most likely to kidnap me, right? Little green men preparing to perform experiments!'

The darkness and shadow around her coalesced into a scythe and she looked around frantically, holding it tight in self defense. After a few moments of nothing leaping out at her, Celty finally got herself to calm down again. She forced herself to put the idea of alien invaders from her mind as she continued searching for some clue of what had happened.

She perked up as she finally found someone else roaming the street and pulled her bike to a stop next to them. Typing quickly into her phone, she then held it out to show them the glowing screen. {Excuse me. Where is this?}

CHARACTER
Character Name: Kankri Vantas
Canon: Homestuck
Timeline: At which point in the canon were they taken from?
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: Considering that we have no indication that guardians go to dream bubbles, and even if they did my Dave is taken from before he ever did, there’s no feasible way for them to have met in canon. Ergo, it wouldn’t be out of line to assume that they aren’t going to interact significantly in RC, either.

Personality: Kankri Vantas is a very independent boy. He feels the need to take care of himself and not accept help from anyone. In canon, this is a holdover from the Beforan ideal of “culling.” On Beforus, being off-spectrum would have meant that he was taken in by a troll of a higher caste and practically infantilized. His independence, therefore, comes from a need to individualize his identity, to make himself known.

In a similar vein, Kankri cannot stand being babied. On Beforus, being coddled would have been indicative of his adherence to the problematic nature of the hemospectrum. He reacts almost violently when Porrim does something as seemingly innocuous as move to wipe grubsauce from his face. His vocabulary and general attitude are almost snobbishly intelligent, a marker perhaps of his vehement desire to separate himself as an independent troll and one who does not need to be “culled”. He is quite smart, although he lacks anything resembling common sense. He writes long-winded diatribes for fun, and shares them with anyone who would stand still long enough to listen.

Part and parcel with his intelligence and independence is a haughtiness or self-righteousness that comes with such teenage hubris. He believes that he is the be-all end-all of any debate, and that anyone who argues with or disagrees with him needs to be debated until they relent and admit that they’re wrong. This self-righteous behaviour comes from the type of Tumblr user that he in canon is meant to make fun of, the Social Justice Warrior. On his pet subjects, he believes that he is simply the best there is. Not only is there a way to win an argument, but Kankri will find it by any means necessary. Usually, what actually happens is that his partner gets sick of his circuitous, rambling tl;dr and just walks away. This kind of behavior is what earned him the nickname “The Insufferable” in canon.

Going along with the Social Justice Warrior stereotype, Kankri is ultimately well-intentioned in his essays and diatribes. He wants to educate others on his own enlightened opinion, he is just oblivious as to how much he can come across as a sanctimonious asshole at times. He means well enough. It’s important to note that he is not a satire of the “die cis scum” SJW. His language and tone come across as ultimately respectful, overall, and indeed most of the reason why he is so long-winded and exhausting to talk to is because he goes so far not to step on anyone’s toes with his rambling. Another sign of his good intentions (and also a trademark of the type of SJW that he is meant to parody) are the trigger warnings that he uses and abuses. He warns not only for all potential triggers, but also many things that wouldn’t normally be considered triggering in the slightest. He makes up new, politically-correct terms to replace words he considers “pr96lematic,” in order to avoid being politically incorrect.

While he doesn’t intend to offend anyone, he ultimately has an ego himself, and it blinds him to how his Social Justice whiteknighting can be at least as problematic, if not moreso, than the behaviour of those he is trying to educate. This comes out in how he will ask his debate partner about their triggers in advance and make it clear that if they become triggered, he will stop and make every effort to accommodate them, but if the trigger in question is related to an important point of his debate, he won’t drop it entirely but will just make an effort to tiptoe around the subject and help them through the discussion. He has less empathy than he believes he does, which doesn’t, of course, make him a bad person. If anything, it just makes him a normal, flawed teenage boy. The problems arise because he believes himself to be much more than that. He is incredibly self-absorbed (again, like most teenagers, let alone teenage boys), and he believes that what he has to say is what is in everyone’s best interest.

It’s also important to bring attention to the fact that although they are biologically the same person, Kankri is not the same person as the Signless. Kankri is a socially impotent armchair crusader, essentially, which is excusable given that he is approximately 19 years old, 6 of which the players spent in an unwinnable session chasing their own tails. He tried to be the spiritual leader of his friends, but the major thing that he really lacks is genuine conviction. He could stand around pointing out all of the problems inherent in the system, but other than telling people what not to do or say, there was no real change he could affect. Signless, on the other hand, preserved some of his Seer powers post-Scratch, and he remembered slices of Beforus, which seemed like utopia in comparison to Alternia.

History: Like literally every other Sburb/Sgrub player in Homestuck, Kankri was a meteor baby. He was one of the first group of players of Sgrub, the pre-Scratch troll session. Very little is known about Beforus, the planet that was known in the post-Scratch universe as Alternia, but they had an interesting take on the idea of “culling”. On Alternia, as well as Beforus, those who were off-spectrum as well as lowbloods were culled. However, on Beforus, to be culled meant that you were taken under the guardianship of a highblood and tended to until the end of your shorter lifespan.

Kankri, being a mutantblood and making no real secret of it (he types in #FF0000, and wears a bright red sweater), would have also been taken in by this culture, which is one idea of where his prohibitively verbose social justice loquaciousness comes from. Being “culled” on Beforus, he would have been infantilized and looked down on as little more than a senseless child, no matter how old he really was. His social justice whiteknighting, therefore, can be read as a cry for attention.

Kankri was the Seer of Blood for his session of Sgrub, although it is implied that he never realized his full potential and, thus, never went god tier during the game. Seers, however, are a passive class, good at strategizing, and it has been speculated that the aspect of Blood could represent people or the populace, therefore making the realization of his power to be the ability to foresee how individuals would act in each of different opportunities, and guide situations to suit the best possible outcome.

He appointed himself the “spiritual leader” of the game, and attempted to spread his social justice doctrines among his fellow players and unite them under his philosophies. He also may have had an unrequited crush on the Pyrope of his session, Latula.

Eventually, the pre-Scratch trolls realized that theirs was a dead-end session, but they sat around and did nothing for three sweeps before making the decision to Scratch the session and start over. Since, they have been floating around in dreambubbles and watching the post-Scratch Alternia and its session unfold as it would. Kankri in particular appreciated the message of his post-Scratch incarnation, the Signless, but he found the means by which the Signless spread his message to be “pr96lematic” at best.

His typing quirk is to replace all “o”s with 9s and all “b”s with 6s, in obvious reference to the manacles that bound the Signless to the flogging jut, and also to the cancer symbol which was supposedly derived from said manacles by the devout followers of the Sufferer (much like Christians adopting the cross as their symbol). However, it’s unknown why this is his quirk. Perhaps there was more that he admired about his Post-Scratch incarnation than he lets on, or perhaps the Cancer symbol existed in the pre-Scratch universe in some form as well (although that is less likely, given that Aranea wears a Sufferer pendant and it is implicitly stated that she wears it out of admiration for the Signless’ teachings).

The first time that we meet Kankri is at the beginning of Act 6 Intermission 3. He is seen having cornered Karkat for presumably quite some time now, in the Derse/Prospit clusterfuck dreambubble section of the game. He talks so much that even the normally verbose Karkat has been struck dumb, although that may also have something to do with the mysterious pull that dancestors are implied to have over their post-Scratch counterparts (see: Kanaya being terrified of Porrim). Playing as Meenah (since it’s an interactive flash), you can eavesdrop on the “conversation” between Kankri and Karkat, which consists of reading a lot of bright red text.

There is also the option to “Be Kankri”, but when it is selected as Meenah, he brushes you off with the explanation that he is quite busy lecturing – debating with Karkat right now. If you go through the flash and “Be” Porrim, you can go back and actually talk to Kankri, prompting an argument between the two where Kankri gets quite sassy with her, poking at her concupiscent vacillations and essentially calling her the troll equivalent of a whore. Her concerns about female rights are brushed off in lieu of Kankri’s desire to focus on more “important” topics, which basically means topics that he is actually interested in.

Once again, the option to “Be Kankri” comes up, but once again he turns you away, this time with the suggestion that you try again with someone “a little radder”. This prompts the player to go “be” Latula, and then come back and talk to him. This time, his interaction is completely changed. He is not nearly as self-assured as he was when he was talking to Porrim or Meenah, and he seems totally off his game. This supports the idea that he might have had an unrequited crush on her that both his vow of chastity and her relationship with Mituna Captor prevented. When Latula requests to “Be Kankri,” he blusters and tries to argue for a moment, before finally relenting and letting player control switch to him.

At this point, the player can walk around as the red-sweatered little bitch, and may be tempted to see if it’s programmed so that you can throw him off of the Prospit towers. Such is, unfortunately, not the case, but you can go talk to Porrim again. Upon doing so, Kankri immediately launches into a self-righteous spiel about how rude it was for her to interrupt him while he was speaking with his “disciple”, and he becomes increasingly snippy with her. He outright explodes when she begins to mother him, snarling at her and wiping the grubsauce off of his face on his own because he’s a big boy and can do so.

After talking to Porrim, there’s little else to do with Kankri besides switch player control back to Meenah, after which Kankri becomes irrelevant to the rest of the flash. He appears very briefly in the other two “Meenahquest” flashes as well, although not even as a selectable character. He appears when Meenah is talking to Mituna, and both chides her for being insensitive to Mituna’s needs, but also tells Mituna that his need for a helmet carries unfortunate implications. He then later appears in order to chide Meenah (again), this time for being insensitive to Cronus’ humankin identity. However, it appears that he doesn’t necessarily believe Cronus either, as he makes a very backhanded statement about how terrible it would be if Cronus was lying about his identity to garner sympathy.

His appearance in Meenahquest3 is similarly limited, although he is mentioned at the end by Hussie wherein the joke is explained that he is a parody of terrible social justice bloggers, and that anyone who was asspained by his existence is exactly who he’s a parody of.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
Kankri’s main strength lies in his ability to not just turn every discussion back to himself and his own experiences, or to seemingly ignore all social cues that the person in question doesn’t want to be there, but his ability to hold a lecture – sorry, “discussion” for hours without stopping. He also has a fairly extensive vocabulary at his fingertips, and not just comprised of words that he more than likely made up. He has the ability to sound incredibly mature and well-spoken, while also sounding like a sanctimonious douchecanoe. His main weakness is that he does not know when or, likely, how to shut up. Ever. In addition, given his lack of real action toward his pet causes, aside from telling others to check their privilege, he comes across as an impotent armchair crusader. In addition, he would like to think that he has the patience of a saint as one of his strengths, but the truth is that he has a rather short fuse when it comes to being coddled, as evidenced by how quickly he blew up at Porrim in Meenahquest1 when they were alone.

Abilities: High among his list of abilities is his ability to talk for hours on end, seemingly without needing to pause for any reason, including breathing. While it’s uncertain what his abilities as the Seer of Blood entail, from what we’ve seen from the other Seers (Terezi and Rose) the class is one primarily geared toward strategy and toward foreseeing (as the name Seer would imply) possible outcomes and alternate timelines. In addition, little is known about the Blood power, but looking at the actions of the other Blood player (Karkat) it can be surmised that it has to do with unity and kinship among the session players, which would explain why he was never able to go god tier or to really begin to realize his powers until after the scratch.

Relationships to Canon Characters:
Signless: his post-scratch counterpart, while he approved of the Signless’ teachings, he approved less of his means of spreading them.
Karkat: his dancestor, and also attempted “disciple”
Cronus: one of the other Beforus trolls, Kankri is possibly one of the only ones who gives Cronus anything that could even resemble positive attention. While he defends Cronus’ right to identify however he chooses, he also castigates him for the disingenuous nature of lying about his identity for the sake of garnering sympathy.
Aranea: While they have not been shown interacting face to face, from Aranea’s explanation/summary of Kankri it’s understood that she likely feels sorry for him to some degree. This would make sense, given that they both trend toward the loquacious, and understand that it can be frustrating to go ignored and unheard.

Third Person: This was like no dream bubble that Kankri had ever experienced before. For one thing, he had never been alone in a dream bubble before, and certainly never on a many-wheeled device like this one. In fact, there was nothing around him that seemed to be manufactured by his memories, which was more than a little unsettling for someone who had existed for so long in pasted-together fragments of his and his friends’ memories. Even looking outside provided no real sense of where he was – everything blurred together, covered by a white haze that only started to fade as the many-wheeled device started to grind to a halt.

When it stopped, he faffed about indecisively for a moment or two until he began to feel the strangest compulsion to step out onto the landing station. What was even stranger was how real everything felt – more real, even, than the dream bubbles. As soon as he stepped out onto the landing station, the doors closed solidly behind him and the many-wheeled device began to slowly roll away.

“Where...am I?” he asked, looking around. It was hard not to feel completely alone, accustomed as he was to having familiar faces around almost constantly.

...Well. There had to be people around somewhere.

[personal profile] calibro 2012-11-18 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: Caliborn is many things: rude, crash, abrasive and violent. He doesn't try to be anything he isn't, the thought is absurd to him and is one of the many reasons why he hates his 'sister', Calliope. Where she would hide who she is, fake sentiments that are unheard of with their kind, he is the opposite and from the beginning you have no doubt just what kind of personality he has. He is a twisted young individual and endlessly motivated, he doesn't just make threats, he ultimately goes through with them. Caliborn also loves games, Calliope has said that her brother's love for games is far beyond the human's understanding of the word and it's true, he often starts jeering Dirk asking if he'd like to play a game (which is a callback to SAW, of course.)

Not only is he motivated, he is also clever, which we observe when he beats his sister at her game of choice: chess, by tricking her and switching the pieces and hiding them in a way that was technically not against the rules. That is another thing to point out, Caliborn is very strict when it comes to games and their rules. Despite his love of games, he is apathetic to sburb, only agreeing to play it as a means to escape, which also branches into a personal game with his sister. Sharing the same body with her, he needs to obtain her juju to ultimately win and take over their body as one, and thus escaping the dead planet they live on.

It also seems that Caliborn is impervious to pain, or it doesn't effect him like it would others. During his ultimate 'winning' over their personal game, he ends up chewing off his one leg that was tethered by Calliope's chain (losing a tooth in the process) but he takes it with a grin and proceeds to embed a robotic leg (that Dirk had helped him build) into the still bleeding stump. And once this is accomplished he proceeds to play the game and accomplish a lot with grim determination. What he really accomplishes though isn't the grand escape and fucking everyone's shit up like he wanted, no. He ends up on another dead-like planet, left in silence and with a lot of walking, leaving him to his own devices and thoughts. And when left to his own thoughts he ends up thinking very meta things and doubting whether his thoughts are his own or narrated by someone else, which only proves to confuse him further and grow frustrated.

Another aspect of his personality is something he (unfortunately) shares with his sister: he is also interested in relationships, but he finds it disgusting and pornographic at the same time. And unlike Calliope he tends to like the more tender and emotional side of relationships, like handholding and marriage, he often grows very flustered when presented with these images (that he 'forces' Dirk to draw for him often.) Speaking of Dirk, and Caliborn's hatred for anyone that isn't himself, he tends to show a 'liking' for the Strider, claiming he is the only bearable one of the other kids. Granted, we have never seen him interact with any of the others (in fact, when Roxy starts pestering him, trying to get Calliope to wake up, he just... walks away.)

CHARACTER
Name: Fix It Felix, Jr.
Canon: Disney’s Wreck It Ralph
Timeline: After the conclusion of the film
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: Not Applicable!

Personality:

Note: There are SPOILERS ahead!

“It’s my job to fix what Ralph has wrecked.”

Felix is the epitome of what gamers would call Lawful Good. He believes in the idea that most people are inherently good, though he’s borne witness to the fact that there are some who are easily driven mad with anger, hate, or jealousy. He’s known for being patient and kind to everyone he meets, and he’s always been willing to lend a helping hand, or, as it stands, golden hammer. To the tenants of the Niceland Apartment building, within the arcade game that bears his name, he’s their hero, and yet, ever humble. No matter how many pies or medals he receives, he has never once let it get to his head.

This simple reputation might lead one to believe that Felix is simple, just these things: wholesome, honest, law-abiding, and everything that his in-game opposition, Wreck It Ralph, is presumably not. But it goes far beyond that. Outside of the general wholesome goodness that Felix represents, he is also brave, heroic, and principled. He can be comical and free in his affections, but ever innocent. The very concept of doing something unkind of deceitful to anyone, even someone who might have wronged him, would not even occur to him.

“You…uh, wouldn’t happen to want to come in and have a slice, would you?”

While the Nicelanders shun Ralph and treat him like the garbage and mud he’s forced to live in, Felix, even if awkwardly, makes an attempt to treat him kindly. He bears no prejudice or ill will towards anyone, and sees it as his duty to correct any messes that Ralph makes.

He willingly leaves his own game and ventures first into the dangerous game world of Hero’s Duty, and then into the sugary sweet world of Sugar Rush to find Ralph, and proves himself to be a capable hero, and quite resourceful when thrust into situations he’s wholly unfamiliar with. Of course, he panicked before getting a hold of himself, so even a hero has his moments of weakness. He’s willing to risk injury to save himself and Sergeant Calhoun when mired in quicksand, and doesn’t even think twice in doing what must be done.

“Jiminy jaminity, look at that high definition! Your face….it’s amazing….”

He’s also a man who wears his heart on his sleeve, as he makes no attempt to hide his growing affection for Sergeant Calhoun, and even compliments her after a rather harrowing escape from quicksand. This does not end well, though, as Calhoun herself has her own tragic backstory to contend with first.

“Then, I met the most dynamite gal – she gives me the honeyglows something awful! But! She rebuffed my affections!”

He doesn’t have to suffer such heartache long – as it stands, he ends up happily married to Calhoun by the close of the film – it’s true that he really can fix anything, and in this case, a broken heart.

“No, I will not, Ralph! You don’t know what it’s like to be rejected and treated like a criminal!”

He has to suffer first heartache and then the frustration and anger of being wrongly imprisoned, and when he is finally reunited with Ralph, we get to see that anger and frustration manifest. He actually refuses to help Ralph at first, purely out of anger. He vents his anger freely after what he’s had to go through, and comes to realize that how he feels, rejected, treated like a criminal, is just how Ralph feels all the time. And he realizes that he and his old foe are not so dissimilar.

“No, I don’t have to do boo – excuse my potty mouth.”

He’s wholesome and a bit quirky in his use of colloquial language – his idea of swearing badly is the word “boo”, for which he apologizes. He’s old-fashioned in a charming way, and a gentleman who always removes his hat in polite company. He’s got a strong sense of responsibility and courage, and a desire to do good anywhere he goes.

First Person:
[It’s dark outside as he steps out of the train car, bewildered. He looks distinctly out of place, and not just because of the simple work clothes and the gold hammer at his hip. Looking over his shoulder at the train he’d just left, he realizes distinctly that it was a foolhardy thing to do, leaving the train…but for some reason, he couldn’t help himself.

Turning back to the darkened train station, it’s immediately evident that this is certainly not Game Central Station, or any other game he’d heard of. And nothing new had come in either…]

Ah, hello? [His voice echoes off the walls and into the night as he steps forward.] I beg your pardon for intruding…is anyone there? Y’see, I think the train-

[There’s a rush of air as the train suddenly departs, back the way it came. He breathes in sharply, but is surprisingly too late to react before the train has long vanished into the mist. Turning back to the empty, and not terribly welcoming train station, he peers out of the front door and into the vast city outside.]

…Oh my lands…

Third Person:

“…Oh my lands…”

To say that this was not Game Central Station was putting it mildly. It wasn’t even the train he’d caught from Niceland that dropped him off in this place – wherever this place was. But as Felix stepped off the train, he took a few seconds to look around in bewildered wonderment. It wasn’t any game he’d ever heard of, and besides that, no train he knew could take anyone from one game to the next – you always had to stop at Game Central Station first.
Straightening his hat, he turned and looked over at the strange train, more of a full steam engine closer to what he saw in Hero’s Duty…if far less advanced. As he looked at it for a few moments longer, he moved a bit further away, as if being ushered by some unseen hand.

“Something squirrelly’s going on around here…and I don’t like it.”

A part of him wanted to be irritated; he didn’t make it a habit of being late, and Tamora, well, she didn’t tolerate tardiness either. It was possible that there was a glitch in the surge protector, but surely they would have all known about it. He would have felt something, and likely, he’d not have arrived here all in one piece.
As he checked his pockets, just to make sure, he felt something heavy in his breast pocket. Frowning just a bit, he reached inside and pulled out what appeared to be…a medal? It unfurled from its red ribbon and dangled effortlessly by his gloved hand, but made no further explanation as to how it had come to be there. He certainly hadn’t brought one with him-

“What’s this…?”

It was about then that Felix noticed faintly along the edge of the medal, a seam, and underneath, a few simple buttons. Bringing it quickly into his palm, he touched it lightly and with a click, it opened, revealing a smooth watch face on one side and a simple screen on the others. It reminded him a bit of how the screens looked at the arcade, only without a view of the outside world.

“Jiminy, isn’t this a piece of work! I’ll bet some of the answers are right in here.” He turned it over a few more times, unaware that the tiny screen had flicked on in his perusal. “I can’t just sit around here waiting for answers…I’ll bet if I get high enough I can get a good view of the inside of the cabinet and maybe find out when the next train comes along!”

CHARACTER
Name: Mike Chilton
Canon: Motorcity
Timeline: After season 1, episode 12 "Fearless"
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: N/A

Personality: Mike Chilton is the calm, amusing 17 year-old leader of the rebel group The Burners. He's very stubborn and would much rather do things his own way than to consider other paths of least resistance. He's courageous and one could say he's very lucky because, despite of all the insanity he gets himself into, he generally keeps things under control.

He's a pretty chill character, and very easy to talk to. He's nice and funny, and gets along with most anybody. Two of the few exceptions would be Abraham Kane, his sworn enemy, and the Duke of Detroit, a sad idiot who thinks his silly limos are anything when compared to Mutt the owner of a large piece of estate in Motorcity. He takes very little seriously, and besides his mission of taking down Kane and protecting Motorcity there's only a handful of things he truly worries about. One of them is the safety of his friends, as he once stated that if anything were to ever happen to any of them he wouldn't know what to do.

The fact that it took Mike so long to realize just how much of a monster Kane was shows that not only he is capable of great, blind trust on other people but also that he is by nature kind-hearted and, to a certain extent, naïve. This betrayal by Kane revealed how much of a rebellious streak he had in him, as he did not hesitate to abandon the system he stood for until then to join the underground city and immediately establish a rebel group dedicated to fighting Kane.

Mike lives by Motorcity's motto: Live fast, live free. His constant need for adventure shows us that he is, in lack of a better term, wired for action. He's always ready to jump into action at any sign of Kane's attacks on Motorcity, which is something that happens often and that Mike enjoys perhaps a little too much. During the tenth episode, the team experiences a few weeks of harmony in Motorcity, and unlike the rest of the Burners who are thankful for the break, Mike is driving himself crazy at the lack of action, and quickly jumps at any opportunity for a 'mission'. His rebellious and impulsive nature more often than not gets him and the rest of the Burners into trouble, since he acts without listening to what others tell him and without thinking of the possible consequences.

Like the rest of the Burners, Mike owns a car, which he uses in his fight against Kane, not only as a means of transportation and escape but also as a weapon. Her name's Mutt and yes, he refers to her as a 'she', and often calls her 'girl'. He's a good driver, albeit a bit reckless and, as expected, enjoys very high speeds and the most extreme pathways. He will take immense pleasure out of driving off broken bridges, jump off cliffs and God knows what else - Chuck could probably make a list of all the insane rides they've been on. Mike's a textbook adrenaline junkie, he loves the feeling of his heart beating faster when making a turn at hundreds of miles per hour, or being in the dead center of a storm - something like that actually happens during the third episode.

Though rash and hot-headed, he's trustworthy and extremely reliable. On many occasions it is shown that no matter how insane his plan, the Burners will follow him wherever. Even Chuck, who has a number of phobias and often suffers from panic attacks yet still manages to sit next to Mike while he's driving, trusts him in the most terrifying situations. Mutt's passenger seat is equipped with a safety eject system but it's not used that often REALLY NOT THAT OFTEN, as Chuck trusts Mike to not get them killed. (That's actually really funny.) On a more personal level rather than as a leader, he is a good friend who can keep a secret, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant, and who will do what he can to help his friends with anything at all.

First Person:

Alright, let's try it this way. [Mike shows up on the screen, shoulders tense and expression serious. He's not whispering but it's easy to tell he's speaking lower than usual.] Guys? Anyone getting this? The screens aren't really working for me. [He furrows his eyebrows at the watch with some lack of faith.] Not sure if this does what I think it does either, but I thought I'd give it a try anyway.

[He seems to be in some sort of alleyway, leaning against the wall. He peeks around the corner cautiously, then looks at the device again.] Well, I'm not in Motorcity anymore. And obviously this isn't Deluxe, so... Care to fill me in on what happened?

[He looks as if he's about to disconnect the feed but he remembers he hasn't really seen any cars on this place. And that worries him.] Oh yeah, by the way - where's Mutt?

Third Person:

Even before arriving at the station, Mike knew something was wrong. He woke up abruptly as the train ran through the tracks, the sun tickling at his eyelids. His immediate reaction was Deluxe. But after rubbing his eyes for a second, his brain caught up with the situation - the artificial sun on the surface city was never this warm. And if that wasn't enough, a moment of glancing around and he knew he wasn't anywhere close to home.

"What the heck..." he murmured as he sat up straight. One word would come to mind: vintage. But vintage for Mike were 500 horsepower cars, 10GB RAM memories and bullet trains - this was something else entirely. The doors and walls were mostly wooden, the speed was below boring and as he glanced out the window his eyes widened in disbelief.

It was green. And not green like the neon lights at their garage, or like Jacob's almost radioactive plantations. There were trees, bushes, grass - pure nature as far as the eye could see. Of course, as nice as it all looked, Mike was anything but gullible, so he got up instantly, not trusting his sight and attributing it all to an illusion, a hologram, a dream. Yes, this had to be it. So he just had to find a way out. Easy.

But he had barely gotten out of his seat when the train slowed down until it stopped. Not even pausing for balance - or needing to - he ran over to the carriage door and glanced out. He couldn't tell much more than that he was at a really old train station when his feet worked of their own accord and he was stepping out onto the platform, the sun hitting him full-force on the face. He gave himself a moment to look around at where he was. It wasn't like anything he had ever seen before, and nothing like he thought he'd ever see - people were rushing by, all talking loudly, dressed differently and all under a bright blue sky. Of course he could tell this place was old, as in, ancient. So his mind went from illusion to dream and now to time-travelling. Who knows?

But he shouldn't be worrying about these details for now, so while he walked out the train station and towards the city, he pulled up his holoscreens. He had more important things to do right now. Like finding the rest of the Burners. And Mutt.

CHARACTER
Character Name: Kirei Kotomine's wife, whose given name is never stated in canon. Her maiden name is Hortensia, and she presumably took Kirei's surname after marrying him. For ease of playing (and because there's really no reason not to give her one), I'll be using Benedetta as her given name. So, Benedetta Kotomine, née Hortensia. Whew.
Canon: Fate/etc
Timeline: Post-death
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: N/A

Personality:
Kirei says his wife was a saint, and his assessment is hard to argue with. Benedetta can check off every box on the list—both good and bad. She's patient and forgiving, willing to withstand poor behavior in order to encourage good, but also unwilling to stand up for herself or become angry when she's treated poorly. She's loving and nurturing, willing to care for and support even strangers in their time of need, but she ignores her own wants and needs in the process. She's innocent, but her purity of mind can't be separated from her sheltered naivety. And, above all, she's pious, her faith in God and His benevolence boundless and unfailing, and yet at the same time blind to opposing views and even objective failures of the Church. Her unshakable "goodness" becomes a double-edged sword.

Not that most people would realize that at a glance. On the surface, she's just unfailingly sweet and friendly, always willing to offer a kind word or gesture to the people around her regardless or whether she knows them or not. She hates seeing people unhappy, and she'll do whatever it takes to stop them from being such. She's perfectly genuine about this, too—other than simply being nice, she's deeply empathetic, and as such she comes to care for others quickly, easily becoming invested in their personal struggles. Furthermore, she's willing to try to understand the behaviors and motivations of even the cruelest of people, and she's easily moved to tears by the hardships other people have had to endure.

Of course, you can't be a saint without a little self-sacrifice, and Benedetta has that in spades, too. In fact, she has a little too much of it. She's perfectly willing to throw away her health, her happiness, and even her life for the sake of other people, taking altruism and turning it into martyrdom. Case in point: Her willingness to commit suicide in the hopes that feeling sadness at her death would allow Kirei to be ultimately happy. Sure, the circumstances there were a little extreme—she cares about her husband immensely, even by her standards, and she was on her deathbed anyway—but it's really just an expression of her normal behavior taken to the highest degree.

Ultimately, this pattern of ignoring her own needs and desires arises from her distorted self-image. She sees herself as worthless and lacking in intrinsic value as a person, utterly insignificant but for her ability to do good for other people, be that on an individual personal level or by fulfilling a role for the Church. She doesn't even hate herself. She would have to care about herself to do that, and if her tendency to run her already sickly body ragged proves anything, it's that she doesn't. This also causes her to blame herself for things that are ultimately beyond her control, since if she can't help others, what use does she have? If only she had been able to do a little more...

Of course, saint or not, she's still a person. She does have negative feelings, and she does want things. However, negativity and desire are both things she suppresses and ignores, and doing something just because it will make her happy isn't something she is capable of without guilt. In her mind, resentment, anger, and want are all selfish emotions that she should be above, regardless of how justified or innocent they are. And when she does feel those things, she is seized with feelings of moral failure. If she was a better person, she wouldn't think that way. How could she be so awful, feeling something like that? In fact, she's so awful that God probably caused whatever made her feel that way to begin with, just to punish her. Which she deserves. Because she's awful. Her looping, self-reinforcing logic makes it hard for her to deal with the issue rationally.

CHARACTER
Name: William 'Billy' Kaplan
Canon: Young Avengers
Timeline: post children's crusade
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: okay so technically Billy is from a marvel verse. Technically Tony is taken from the movie verse and wouldn't even know who Billy is. And for Billy? After certain run ins with Tony and Steve, he has no real desire to approach Iron Man at all. He'd be more interested in Loki (or Thor if we ever get one) given the fact that they weren't jerks to him, and he was going with the code name 'Asgardian' at the start, after all. So yes, Tony isn't one of his favorite people, and Billy isn't even on Tony's radar.
selfhelpedhero: (Default)

[2/3]

[personal profile] selfhelpedhero 2012-11-25 12:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality: Billy isn't your average teenager, unless your average teenager also has super powers, then that's... certainly a thing. Raised by the Kaplan family, he lived a relatively normal life until his teen years. When we're first introduced to Billy, he was seen as a younger version of Thor, and going by the name 'Asgardian'. Even his costume was relatively similar, and he had the ability to call down thunder, and we didn't know that was just one of his many different traits. He comes off as a bit quiet and tends to shake his head at the shenanigans and in-fighting that happens within the Young Avengers group, at the start. Because at the start things were more simple. He was just this kid with powers, trying to impress the Avengers- men and women he looked up to since he was a kid.

I'd like to say Billy is one of the more mature teens in the group, and in ways he is yet there are ways he isn't. He is prone to child-like idiocy like all the others, his just tends to be more thought out. He is usually quite obedient as well, and tries to take orders accordingly, unless he has a real problem with said orders and who happens to be giving those orders. But if he doesn't agree and his temper is getting the best of him, he has no problems with turning things around and rebelling against whomever he needs to.

Billy is also driven and loyal. Both of these things plus his temper can often lead to dangerous things, but his intentions are always good. When his boyfriend, Teddy, was being attacked and threatened by a supremecist terrorist group, he found himself whiting out, and when he awoke the entire group of baddies were presumed dead, but actually they were just rendered unconcious. His magic is still quite unsteady, and his rage got the better of him. He was considered, and probably still is considered a low threat on the Avenger's radar. Something he doesn't like at all.

They do have their rights to be suspicious, given his family. In reality he is William Maximoff, the daughter of Wanda Maximoff, that's right... the Scarlet Witch. That means Magneto is his grandfather, Quicksilver his uncle. Once he and his twin brother, Tommy, found out who their mother really was, they went through all they could to find her. Billy went more than out of his way to do this, and this meant turning his back on the Avengers and the X-Men to do it. But she is family. He has no problems with his adopted parents, but there is so much he needs from her- like controlling his magic. Not to mention his favorite Avenger had always been the Scarlet Witch (she helped him stand up for himself once, when he was younger, and he never forgot her kind words and wise advice.)

Billy is also prone to mood swings. He can be dark, quite and broody when things go wrong and he doesn't think there is any way to make things better. The surest way to get him back on his feet is usually a little tough love from Teddy, whom he has always cared for deeply.

CHARACTER
Name: Rarity
Canon: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
Timeline: post season 3 episode 2
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: n/a

Personality: Rarity is... well, a rarity (and yes, the pun is completely intended, you're welcome.) At first glance she can be mistaken as a snob, someone who only care for looks and fashion. It's true that fashion is her life, her... passion, if you will. She runs a little boutique in Ponyville and she specializes in making clothing and accessories for the other ponies. It's her dream to one day be a famous fashion designer and to be recognized by her peers of the trade. She loves everything beautiful and is a sucker for jewels and all things shiny.

But that's just a small part of who she is. Underneath the glitz and the glamour is a caring, dutiful and generous friend. There is a reason her element is generosity, after all. There are many ways that show her generosity, one of the stronger moments of this would be in the pilot episode. Upon reaching a violent river then notice the cause of the water's temper is in actuality a tantruming sea serpent, his moustache uneven and this ruining his look. Rarity takes sympathy with him and ends up cutting off her own beautiful tail, weaving it into the ends of the ruined half of his moustache, so he can calm down and accept his look again. Coming from a pony like Rarity (who loathes getting wet/ruining her mane et all) it was a very big deal and showed her strength of character.

Being the type of pony she is she can be seen as fussy. It's one of the reasons why she clashes with fellow pony and friend, Apple Jack, so often. She is very much a priss little pony, polite to a fault and always minding her manners. But that doesn't mean she's weak. The others often believe she cannot take care of herself, but what she lacks in physical abilities she makes up for with force of will and a clever tongue.

First Person: [It was an easy thing to work, once she figured out what it was. The device certainly wasn't pony friendly, but with a little bit of unicorn magic she has the device floating before her, the feed turning on. Now Ruby City will be graced by the lovely sight of one pretty little pony.]

Ah, here we are. Good evening... Ruby City, was it? I do beg your pardon if it is too late to be sending such a message, but I do believe there was a mistake in my arrival. See, my friends and I were on board to Canterlot and as... charming as your city is- and I do love the design of this cute little gadget, I am afraid I simply cannot stay. Busy pony, things to do, yes?

[The turns to approach the station once more, turning the watch to show how vacant the area was.]

It also seems you have lost my luggage. I am not one to complain frivolously... But I did have important things in there, why... my best scarves, the most charming little chapeau and a dress I was working on. Now, if there is somepony in charge that I may inquire to about this... mishap, I would greatly appreciate any and all assistance.

Thank you very much, darlings.

Third Person: Charming? Oh this place was anything but charming, and Rarity saved the scrunching of her nose for when the feed was turned off. This place seemed a tad too run-down for her expensive tastes, and she finds herself scraping her hoof on the pavement with disdain. How filthy, if only she had her boots on her, this wouldn't be half bad. She lifts her hoof, examining the dirt that sullied the fine polish she had applied earlier this evening, comfy and cozy in her bunk on the train.

Tch. Trains. She had half a mind to never trust the things ever again, if this is where she ended up, without her luggage as well! The nerve of some ponies. She exhales a puff of air as she slowly paced the station, awaiting assistance. They weren't a very tactful bunch, these ponies of Ruby City, and that was another thing! For a place called Ruby City, she expected gems, class and charming little buildings... perhaps a palace? But no. This was all very rubbish and growing more disappointing at the moment.

"Oh, don't rush for my sake." Mumbled under her breath as she stops her pacing. She was tired and hungry. If only the others were here, but she suspects they must be frantically on their way once they notice she is missing. She supposed she just had to wait until then, and perhaps they will be so wrought with worry they might shower her with gifts and affection. Yes... that sounded much better.

But for now she just had to wait. So, with a grimace, she uses her luxurious tail to wipe off the ground beneath her hooves, before daintily sitting. And waiting.

"Any time now, anypony... I am growing dreadful lonely."

CHARACTER
Name: Graverobber
Canon: Repo! The Genetic Opera
Timeline: Ending of the movie, after Nathan and Rotti’s death, Shilo’s disappearance and Amber taking over GeneCo.
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: I don’t currently play any other character from this canon.

Personality:
There’s a lot to say about Graverobber’s personality. There’s more to him than meets the eye, as odd as he may seem at first.

Graverobber comes from a post-apocalyptic world that fell under attack of an organ failure epidemic that claimed the life of millions. In the midst of this chaos, a company called GeneCo emerges; GeneCo provides organ transplant and financing, although it comes with a risk: those who cannot pay their debt will have their organs revoked by the company’s Repo Men.
With this, a new trend emerged: plastic surgery becomes a fashion statement and many indulge in this to extremes, which can be verified through some of the examples of characters in the movie, such as Amber Sweet or Pavi Largo, daughter and son of the head of GeneCo, Roti Largo.
With all of this, GeneCo also creates Zydrate, a powerful (and addictive) painkiller. Throughout the scenes of the movie, the control of Zydrate usage is heavily mentioned, such as quotes like “Ask a Gentern if Zydrate is right for you.” airing through the city where the story takes place, helping the watcher realize how much of a problem Zydrate use and abuse is in storyverse. This is further proven when it’s acknowledged the existence of a Black Market, grave-robbers sell a cheap version of Zydrate, extracted from the millions of dead bodies that can be found in massive graves and cemeteries around the city.

Graverobber, as his nickname entails, indulges in those less-than-legal acts. He illegally gathers and sells Zydrate, and seems to be quite known in his area, as we can assume by the scenes during “Zydrate Anatomy”.
He goes about his “occupation” with an almost carefree demeanor, despite the fatal risks. We can observe, during “21st Century Cure” how he goes about grave robbing and Zydrate gathering in the most casual manner, despite Shilo’s presence and the nearing officers. He seems almost amused by this, going as far as being purposely loud (such as screaming “graves”) to attract the attention of the armed officers.

Although fitting in this environment, Graverobber has a more philosophical point of view than most of the characters in the show. He seems to be rather critical of the current lifestyle, seeing it as fickle and shallow, as he expresses during “21st Century Cure”. He doesn’t seem to agree with the surgery trend, but that doesn’t keep him from profiting from it and from people’s weaknesses and vices (such as Zydrate addiction). He also criticizes needless grudges, such as the situation between Rotti and Nathan, expressed during “Epitaph”. He presents his views on the inevitability of death and the how certain situations should be deemed unnecessary, leaving the viewer to construct their own critical opinions according to the situations in plot.

Graverobber can then be summarized as a neutral, and certainly self-servicing character. He follows his views as a third party of sorts, mentally distancing himself somewhat from the events around him to form his own opinions, which he is not shy to express.

Despite his critical personality, Graverobber still manages to make some sort of connection with other characters, though they usually seem to imply some sort of gain by his part. For example: his relationship with Amber Sweet, aforementioned daughter of the head of GeneCO, aspiring singer/performer, face of the Zydrate Support Network, as well as, ironically, a Zydrate addict. Although Graverobber shows some obvious animosity towards Amber, during “Zydrate Anatomy”, “Can’t Get It Up If The Girl’s Breathing” (deleted scene) and “At The Opera Tonight” (going as far as hiding in a dumpster to avoid her), he seems to be her recurrent dealer, as well as sexual partner ( hinted through their body language in “Zydrate Anatomy” and further proved during “Can’t Get It Up If The Girl’s Breathing” and “Come Up And Try My New Parts”, both scenes deleted from the original movie.).It goes to show that Graverobber, as much of a critic as he might be, indulges in such situations as sexual gratification and monetary gain, possibly fed by his own bleak view of the frivolity in most things in life.

He might sometimes break this streak (although not by much), as is seen in his interactions with Shilo. Having gotten her caught by GeneCo agents and in the claws of Roti Largo, he still returns to save her and safely get her back home. He, however, takes a detour through alley populated by Zydrate addicts, where the events of “Zydrate Anatomy” take place, but with the purpose of enlightening her on the existence of Zydrate, Amber’s addiction, as well as explain to her Mag’s situation. When the alarms sound, he finally does help Shilo safely escape and find her way home, says his goodbyes with an almost gentleman-like gesture. He might have had his attention peeked by Shilo’s naivety, but it is unclear if his actions were fueled by other motives or not. It is to note, however, his somewhat different demeanor with a more innocent character.

In conclusion. Graverobber is one to not take sides. He forms his own opinions and views, more easily acting as someone else’s unrequited guide than to follow outward influences, although his critical point of view might not allow him to do so. Due to his own self-distancing, his actions might seem a bit odd to other parties, which will end up fueling his own amusement through observing the various reactions. He is an observer, a critic, one who enjoys his pleasures, and neither a leader nor a follower, but one who makes his own path.

First Person:
[ Another evening, another train. The line of smoke and the screech from the tracks were familiar sights and sounds for the city, but not for him.
He wakes up when the train came to a halt, falling off the seat he was laying across. Sitting up quickly, he takes a look at his surroundings… where is he? A ...train cabin?
He stands and leaves the cabin in careful steps. The train is dark and apparently empty…there’s a door open, and it leads to the station.

Where’s…this? It looks so different. So… clean, in a way.

What happened here?

He narrows his eyes and calls out, but not too loud.]

Hello?

[ He reaches into his jacket, waiting for some sort of response, some sign of life, preparing for some sort of ambush.
Could someone have just grabbed him out of his hideout and shoved him into a train to…wherever this is?
But things didn’t work that way.
It doesn’t make any sense.

Huh. Nothing there.

Time to take a look around and hope this isn’t some elaborate mouse trap.]

----

Musebox thread example. (Content warning: drug selling and usage.)

Third Person:
He had gotten too used to living in alleyways. Not that he hadn’t considered looking for shelter in one of those apparently empty buildings; but he had yet checked how things worked around here. Debts were something one from his world would learn to avoid, especially those that might spring up on you out of nowhere. So a fire in a barrel would suffice, for now, if the cold didn’t suddenly take a turn for the worse.

Looking for a way back had proven fruitless. Then again, it was hard to know which direction you should be headed when you have no idea where you are. The city looked stuck in time, from a time long before he was born, and some of the things around there weren’t… human.

He couldn’t tell what was real or what was not, anymore. Many ideas passed through his mind; that that was some kind of overrealistic nightmare, some kind of new mind-control torture by GeneCo, some kind of terrifying trip, or maybe he was just dead. All of these ideas seemed ridiculous once he was over them, but so did his situation. So did that place.

From a world where people were barely human anymore, where technology took over, where Nature failed, where changed was not only revered, but forced, to this city lost in time (and, apparently, in space), by the mysterious hands of fate, together with humans and monsters and creatures never before seen, he wondered if his mind had not simply broken apart.
But no. It was too real, as ridiculous as it seemed.

To a world of monsters from a world of barely-men; was there that much of a difference?

His gloves weren’t doing much for warming his hands. He just stared into the fire, sunken into his coat. He started to think that, between here or going “home”, neither of the options seemed to be of great value. Sinking his hands into his coat, he almost hissed at the cold—before turning his head.

Voices. Someone in the city—when they came into view, he realized that they were some of the non-human residents. He watched them; they seemed happy. Some joyful conversation about something meaningless, he assumed. He raised an eyebrow… how can these…people, these things be so happy here? Trapped in some God forsaken city in the middle of nowhere. How did those things even come to be?

Once they were gone, he stepped out of the alleyway. His breath fumed in front of him and he mentally cursed the cold, but he watched them. Watched them walk through the streets like it was nothing. Humans and non-humans, conversations and lives abound. Windows lit and life invading the night. Nothing like “home”. Death didn’t haunt this place and he wasn’t sure if he loathed it or not. It just felt…different.

He found himself stepping into a...bar of some sort. The bright lights and clean environment was nothing sort of odd. He looked around and stepped up to the counter while he brushed the snow off his sleeves. Amazingly non-threatening locale. He took a seat by the bar and considered his options. Maybe staying here wouldn’t be so bad after all.

Personality: Like any person in the history of existence, Dean has his share of positive and negative traits. In Dean’s case, he’s not exactly consistent. He could be displaying one trait and depending upon the situation, it could fall into the categories of either positive or negative. Overall, he’s a genuinely good guy.

He’s been involved with hunting since childhood and this has moulded him into the man he is today; the entirety of his life since his mother’s death has been being dragged across the country. This is a lifestyle he’s come to accept, because there isn’t another option for him. He knows he has no future in a “normal” life; he dropped out of high school, and front the constant moving, he never learnt how to form meaningful relationships with anyone outside of his father and brother. What was the point? He’d just be moving again in a day, or a week, or a month. His future lies with the one thing he’s good at—hunting. Someone has to do it. If he doesn’t, who will? If he has a normal lifestyle and doesn’t hunt, more people are going to needlessly die. It’s the job no one wants and nothing good actually comes out of it.

From his years growing up on the move with his father, he’s learnt a variety of skills. He’s apparently talented at poker and has no qualms with credit card fraud; it’s the only way he can truly make an income. The investigative aspects of his job has also given him the ability to lie and act very well; put him in a suit and he could be a very convincing FBI agent, despite his young age. He’s able to get people to trust him in these situations, and not only because he’s posing as an authority figure, but because despite his lack of education, he is knowledgeable in subjects that pertain to his interests. (See: monsters, demons, supernatural things, his car—which he was able to completely restore despite being totalled.)

On the night his mother died, his father told him to look after Sammy. Since then, that’s become the mantra for his life. Obviously hunting takes a great deal of his time and energy, but there is absolutely nothing he wouldn’t do for Sam. He would give his life for him, and has done so. It could even be said that Dean is emotionally co-dependent to his brother. There are moments where it seems like Dean can’t be happy unless Sam’s with him. It doesn’t matter that they don’t always see eye to eye, he’s the older brother. Anything that happens in Sam’s life is completely his responsibility. If something bad happened? Guess whose fault it is for not looking after him well enough?

The biggest fault Dean has, apart from his obsession with food and drinking, is that he’s reckless. He has a hero complex and he tends to rush right into the line of fire without putting much planning into consideration. This typically occurs when he’s already worked up about something. Even still, the usually needs someone sensible to counterbalance his recklessness in given situations.

Another thing to note about Dean is his lack of technological prowess. It shouldn’t be surprising considering he lives on the road. Sam is typically the one to do online research. When it’s left to Dean, Mister-I-Don’t-Know-What-Myspace-Is, you can expect him to be unable to turn up any results in search databases, because he typed in something about ghost killers in a newspaper archive or something.

CHARACTER
Name: Sgt. Tamora Jean Calhoun
Canon: Wreck-It-Ralph
Timeline: After the film’s plot. [after she is married to Felix]
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: N/A
SPOILERS AHEAD!!

Personality: The first thing you notice about Sgt. Calhoun is her intensity. She is not a laid back woman and she makes that very clear from the moment you meet her. Her tone of voice is always on the aggressive side, while not being full on cruel. Her tone of voice is loud, brash, nearly yelling at some points. Her first words in the film are a condescending pep talk to her soldiers before beginning a battle against the Cy-bugs.

“All right, not listen up because I am only going to say this once. Fear is a four letter word ladies. You want to go pee-pee in your big-boy slacks. Keep it to yourself.”

This theme demonstrates a certain sass about her while still showing her seriousness. She is dedicated to her cause [fighting cy-bugs] and demands anyone under her command to follow that. Her authority is unquestioned in her squad despite the fact that Sgt. Calhoun is by far the smallest human character in her game. Her size doesn’t hurt her much, her word is law in her squad and she gets absolute obedience or else she is not afraid to whack it into someone [example being when she mistook Ralph for Markowski and clocked him with her helmet for disobeying the first rule of Hero’s Duty] The discrepancy in size and her unquestioned control over her soldiers implies she is an unrivaled fighter.

She approaches her ongoing mission to kill cy-bugs with absolute responsibility, in fact it could be said that she approaches life that way. She never approaches anything half-heartedly. She is in or she is out and either way she is dedicated to her choice 100%.
She insisted to Felix on first meeting that “nothing gets past me” when he came looking for the runaway Ralph. But once she was proven wrong and realized a cy-bug had escaped with Ralph into Sugar Rush, Calhoun went after it without a second thought. It was simply her duty to go after and destroy the bug before it killed a game full of strangers and eventually the whole power strip’s worth of games. She takes her role as a soldier seriously, from referring to Felix as “Civilian” to forbidding him to join her at first on her mission to kill the cy-bug in Sugar Rush.

“Like fun you are, short stack. You die outside your game you don’t regenerate.”

From the get-go in the story she is all-business and never loses sight of her goal. When Ralph was causing a mess in Hero’s Duty disguised as Markowski she continued to interact with the player after getting Ralph back in formation, she never let the game itself come to a halt.

“Markowski! Back in formation!! [to First Person Shooter]... Alright the kitten whispers and tickle fights stop NOW. The entrance to the lab is straight ahead.”

This can also be a bit of a downfall in that Calhoun focuses ONLY on her goal. She gets a bit of tunnel vision. Her journey to find the Cy-Bug in Sugar Rush was her mission and she really didn’t care what happened to Ralph, the other “survivor” in the meantime. This isn’t to say she is a cold person, she is just very focused and disciplined. On the other hand she was hesitant to continue hitting Felix to the point of injury even though it was what she had to do to encourage the Laffy Taffy down so they could escape the Nesquick sand. It took Felix demanding her to hit him, claiming that the arcade was counting on them to get through this and capture the cy-bug. Once he appealed to her she had little problem. She understands that if she fails her duties, it will cost lives as it has before. The game establishes that she lost her would-be husband at the altar on their wedding day to a cy-bug attack. It was the one day she failed to do a perimeter check.

In her brief flashback and in her brief moments being courted by Felix, she is shown to be softer and more vulnerable. She smiles, she has softer light on her, she appears more warm and open to being charmed. [She breaks the stereotypical mold and kisses Felix back at the end too!] We see her on dates with Brad, her would-be husband and she gets “goo goo eyes” for Felix after he lifts her effortlessly from the Nesquick Sand. Calhoun is not a complete hard-core soldier but she had learned the pain of failing those you love. She is very professional and puts her business first but she is very open to having a personal life too.

Sgt Calhoun. Wreck-It Ralph

[personal profile] one_dynamite_gal 2012-12-08 07:55 am (UTC)(link)
First Person: [There is a blaring angry voice over the communicator, it demands your attention. It is accompanied by a twisted grimace on the face of an otherwise lovely woman with short blond hair. Her eyes are glittering with rage. She grit her teeth as if to hiss at her soldiers. She was angry as a trapped bear and about as dangerous as one.]

Where is this! This isn’t the surge protector or Game Central Station. [Clearly she has been game-jumped without her consent or awareness and she’s got an earful for whoever happens to respond to her first. This game was full of some kind of kidnapping thugs and they had another thing coming if they thought she was all goo-goo eyes and no brawn. She wasn’t sergeant for nothing, don’t let the pretty face fool you.]

Whoever is responsible for this better get ready. I’ve got a lot of questions I want answered.

[her tone lowered into a soft sort of threat, almost a whisper, as if calming down but the focus in her eyes didn’t falter.] What game is this and who’s in charge of kidnapping characters around here!? I don’t care how it started or what it’s for. It’s ending right now.

Third Person: It had been a short while since she exited the train. Her hand was still tightly gripping the communicator she’d found on herself. Underneath her armor her knuckles were white and it felt as though she’d break that stupid watch here in a second or two. She’d be happy about sticking it to the man in a small way if it weren’t kind of important. She lost her communicator from home somewhere along the way so she took a few deep breaths and loosened her hand.

She was angry, yes. But under that, more importantly she was scared. This was beyond confusing and so sudden. Tamora couldn’t deny that this was reminding her of the last time her life seemed to be falling into place. Last time she was getting married and Brad was perfect and everything was all right for once. Then the cy-bug came and… well she didn’t want to remember the rest. About how the bug she had to kill contorted and bore Brad’s face in its last moments, seconds after eating him.

She shook her head, pushing that aside. Carefully she lifted the communicator to eye level, examining it yet again. She’d been making quick rounds around this city and poking around with this antique looking watch. It had failed to impress her until she learned it was a discretely high tech device. She kind of liked that.

But back to the worrying. She was in unfamiliar land with no real characters to interact with just yet. It was unnerving and in the wake of her recent marriage to Felix, it rung a certain bell for her. Old memories of Brad and how everything ended up in raging screaming tears. It couldn’t end that way again, she wouldn’t allow it. She had to find a way home, she WOULD find a way home. That was the end of it. She took another sweep of the area before opening the watch again to send another broadcast. Someone would find her, even if to interrogate her or offer some sort of arrangement as the prisoner they brought here. She’d be ready for it one way or another. Because one way or another she was getting out of here.

CHARACTER
Name: Feferi Peixes
Canon: Homestuck
Timeline: After talking to Jade, post-death
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: n/a

Personality: Excitable. Ambitious. A little daft. Even among trolls, Feferi is one of the most unique alien fish-princesses you could meet, and if you do meet one with more spunk and less common sense, then you're quite the unfortunate soul.

As Heiress to the Alternian empire, Feferi lacks all the cruelty and conniving of her predecessor and in their place has a great deal of compassion and a great lack of common sense. If there is one thing that she has going for her, it's that she cares a great deal about her friends, her race, and generally all the living beings around her. Among the many future plans she has for her rule as Empress, many of them center around improving the general quality of life for trollkind. When she dreams, she dreams big, and complete social reform is at the top of her list of Things To-Do. Not only that, but she loves animals, running a sort of makeshift aquatic wildlife refuge out of her undersea castle, where she takes the wildlife she finds and nurses them back to health, regardless of whether they need said nursing.

Optimistic to a fault, Feferi possesses a great deal of confidence. Fretting about the future is not something she is inclined to do. She lives very much in the present, and takes a positive outlook to most situations. Her way of living is to "just do it" if it seems like the right thing to do and there are no obvious downsides to it-- and rarely does she see the downsides to things. This outlook has the unfortunate effect of contributing to a distinct lack of personal space and privacy that, while not malicious, can be off-putting. She will gladly share someone else's feelings in confidence, simply because she fails to realize that they may not want her sharing, when her intention is really just to help. Her heart is usually in the right place, but her head stays floating somewhere in the briny deep.

Despite her royal standing, she is anything but decorous. Her manners and mannerisms are offhand and frank, bordering on rude and even condescending at times, although she is not exactly cruel hearted, and her intentions are generally good. And then there are the fish puns. She makes them frequently, whether or not the situation is particularly appropriate to be making them. Everyday chatter? Of course! Dumping your best friend? Definitely! The faith she places in those around her, while admirable in the face of many of the challenges she comes up against eventually when she does enter Sgrub, can keep her from really analyzing a situation before making a call. Her decisions can be poorly thought out, and she can be blind to the gravity of a situation, unless the evidence to the contrary is laid out plainly for her. Even so, her belligerence in matters pertaining to her friends is not all-consuming. She eventually shows the capacity to sober up and realize when she needs to be serious, but only after a great deal of evidence is presented otherwise. This same recklessness can make her come across as fearless, although she doesn't know what dangers may really lie ahead.

It should be no surprise that with that much ambition, Feferi has a certain sort of... enthusiasm to her demeanor. Which is to say that she is constantly excited. Always and forever. There is absolutely no bounds to her energy, and in fitting with her positive outlook on life, she just finds everything ------EXCITING! And why aren't you excited with her? Even when faced with the destruction of her planet, most of her race, and her parent-type guardian, she still manages to find something to be -EXCIT-----ED about. She finds it difficult to contain herself at times, and the highest point of her excitement is expressed mainly in "glubs" (presumably a unique sound made only by other sea-dwelling trolls, like her) and emphatic additions to her text-speak.

Third Person: (recycled from [community profile] theposthumans application)

Feferi would never get out of the labs if she kept stopping to look at everything. An unending curiosity had overcome her-- after all, this was a new and exicting development! An alternate reality! How novel! But it was nothing new or world-shattering. She wasn’t in the Veil anymore, that was for sure, and this was nothing that they had foreseen. It didn’t occur to her to be concerned about whether her friends were hurt, or how this would affect the timelines. Why bother? For one, she was alright. It was unforeseeable that even if her friends were in the same situation, that they would be any more hurt than they already were!

Furthermore, she was here now, and there wasn't much to be done about that, aside from time manipulation. But she was the Witch of Life, not the Witch of Time. It was what it was, and nothing more.

At some point, she would eventually find her way outside, after more than a fair share of dawdling and awing at the strange and stark environment. Partially distracted by fussing with the new belongings she'd picked up and dragged with her in a bundle in her arms, she noticed first the warmth on her arms, then second the light cast on the ground, and as her gaze traveled upwards--

Sunlight!

She had only seen it once or twice on Alternia. The sunlight was nearly unbearable there, and she had very few reasons to come up to the surface during the day. But it was unmistakable for what it was. A brief moment of precaution gave way to a sense of adventure. One foot sought out the bare ground in front of her, tentatively moving the rest of her body into the light so that her shadow cast across the ground, and for the first time in a long while, she felt what it was like to stand in broad daylight.

It was thrilling and a little bit illicit all at the same time, like she had done something she was not really supposed to. Giggling to no one but herself (and a few glubs escaping of their own accord) Something at the back of her mind was still a little anxious about it, that much was ingrained in her mind, but she wasn't about to let it stop her. Still, she stopped underneath the shade of a nearby tree as she planned her next move. This was all a little new, and frankly a little confusing. More information was in order, naturally. There were strange buildings! And a strange new landscape! And all sorts of wonderful things to discover, she was quite sure! And who knew? Her friends might be here too! Especially if this had anything to do with the game, which she suspected it might. Most strange things in her life tended to have some sort of tie back to Sgrub after all. That was just the status quo, and it had failed to bother her yet. It wasn't about to slow her down.

She failed, however, to fret too very much over the whole ordeal. It wasn't her style, and furthermore, it wasn’t really going to get anything done. Honestly, it was a lot of unnecessary fuss for something that couldn’t be changed; this was the here and now and everything else was the there and then. But there was a subtle difference between not getting worked up and not caring at all. If they were here, undoubtedly her friends would find her, or she would find them, whichever took place first, and in the process of searching she could get the urge to explore out of the way.

That got the prerequisite information-gathering out the way as well. There were very few other things to do when one landed in an irascible and strange alternate universe. This sort of multitasking made a great deal of sense at the moment. With no idea where to start looking for one thing or another, whether it was facts or friends, searching wherever caught her fancy was just about as good a bet as any. She did venture, though, that as far as her peers were concerned, wherever they were-- if they were here—they would probably not be out sunbathing. All the same, the interior of this new landscape intrigued her just as much as the exterior. It was something to keep in mind, a minute bit of focus to the aimless exploration.

There was no need to be intentionally hasty, either. With an attention span that flirted with something new every moment, she didn’t have it in her to linger too long. Everything was interesting, but at the same time none of it enthralling enough (yet) to keep her tethered to one place very long.

Never mind, of course the potential dangers lurking around every corner. She could stand to deal with that if and when the time came.

[CANON] Regina Mills || Once Upon A Time || Reserved.

[personal profile] herzlos 2012-12-09 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: Someone who first meets Regina is unlikely to get a downright negative impression of her, at least not right away. She appears polite enough, if a bit harsh - depending on the subject. She seems to have a solid grasp on her job and the tasks that come with it, and, when talking about her son, she sounds like an ordinary, loving single mom. If you're lucky, you'll get a piece of pretty decent apple pie. Voilà, you have survived your first encounter with a woman who has trapped thousands of people in another world, literally taken the hearts of more people than she could keep track of - just to name some of her crimes - and if you don't know the story, you wouldn't even believe it.

As stated, this is merely a first impression. Towards some, she might be able to keep it up, but that is an unlikely scenario on the long run for several reasons. For one, those who cross her are going to be seen as a disturbance and/or danger - which will result in her threatening that person; efficiency depending on how well she knows them. Her threats are not always empty. She has no moral objections whatsoever if properly enraged, and she can and will fight dirty. She has sent many children into the cottage of a cannibalistic witch to get something back that once belonged to her (only two of which came back). She has framed Mary Margaret for a murder; never mind the many occasions on which Emma had been set up.

She is power-hungry, but this hunger for power is trumped as well as caused by her need to be in control. With her mother having controlled her throughout her childhood and teenage years, followed by being severely limited in her freedom by King Leopold, the need to be in charge of her own life is understandable, however, the need to control everything else came much later. It isn't exactly shown how good a ruler she is in the fairytale world, but given how people seem to fear her, she certainly wasn't a kind queen by far. She did seem to be focused more on her personal vengeance than her kingdom. This changed drastically during the twenty-eight years in Storybrooke, when her main way of being in control was her curse. This change only truly surfaces when Emma comes to Storybrooke and Regina beings to see her curse in grave danger. Losing control of the curse would mean losing control of Storybrooke, the people - in short, everything she views as 'hers'.

To put it mildly, she has an anger management problem, which frequently results in overreactions - this can be something as minor as a mirror being smashed or something as major as the murder of a man who rejected her.
The many years she has spent grieving Daniel haven't just left her sufficiently bitter and vengeful, but also incredibly self-centered. In her mind, she deserved to be happy, and this once sane thought turned not nearly sane once she reached the point where her own happiness wasn't enough - everybody else needed to be miserable. To achieve this (quite crazy) goal, she had been willing to sacrifice her beloved father's life as well as risking 'a void inside that can never be filled' (as pointed out by several characters). Then, she gave whatever it took to get her revenge - now, one could say that it wasn't all that different.

Nowadays, she still is selfish and perfectly willing to ignore the consequences her actions have on innocent bystanders as long as she reaches whatever goal she has set for herself. Even when these things are pointed out to her, she views them as mere collateral damage.

All this points out pretty clearly that Regina is not a mentally stable, rational person. Part of this can be blamed on Cora, who had manipulated her daughter from the start. The best example of how damaging this was would be Regina's hatred for Snow White. Yes, Snow White gave away her secret, which prompted Cora to murder David.
But: Snow White was a child, something between eight and ten years old. She had quite obviously meant no harm in any form or way. Cora was the one to kill Daniel, yet Regina was not able to place the major part of the blame on her mother right away - instead, she wishes death upon a child. And this was before she lost her mind Evil Queen Style.
Another part was the sort of 'trauma' she suffered from losing Daniel. Adding to that the things she put herself through by hoping to be able to revive him, (keeping his magically-not-decaying corpse around for decades), and holding on to the memory of having lost him and the belief to never be able to love again (which may or may not be true in canon)... The parts of her sanity that she didn't lose to her mother or Rumplestilskin, she lost to herself.

Aside from being a self-centered, cold-hearted, vengeful witch with a capital B, Regina has yet another big issue: love. And for one, that is not solely tied to Daniel.

Point is, Regina does not understand how love works. In her head, it is something that can be bought, owned, even traded at will, and this believe clashes painfully with reality. The irony in this is that, while she would be one to claim that love is a weakness, in her native world, ~love conquers all~. True loves kiss breaks any curse, true love is forever... not understanding it, not being fully able to understand it, is a weakness.

There are several example for her either abusing or failing to understand love and friendship.
  • The Genie. He genuinely loved her and that did not stop her from manipulating him, bringing him to kill her husband, making sure that he would be the one to be blamed for it - thus willingly selling him out - and all that with a smile.
  • Hänsel and Gretel. Whom she sent into the lion's Blind Witch's den, and by that endangering their lives, and then asked to stay with her at the castle, offering wealth and a noble life - just to get rejected, since they rather wanted to return to their father. This is an excellent example for frustrated overreactions as well, since she had them thrown into some godforsaken forest. To boot, she asked the father, whom she had held captive, what made the children react that way, and, not satisfied with his answer, threw him into the same forest (nowhere near his children, though).
  • Malificent. Probably the weirdest example of them all. She fights Maleficent to get the Dark Curse back when the other woman had refused to give it to her, and when Maleficent states that she thinks Regina will kill her, Regina replies in all earnest that she would not, since Maleficent is 'her only friend'.
  • Much later, Maleficent was trapped in dragon form and locked in a secret lair beneath Storybrooke for the next twenty-eight years. Why? Because that was convenient for Regina, and Regina has no talent whatsoever when it comes to caring for other people.
  • Graham. The Huntsman/later Sheriff who has suffered an incredible lot at her hands. From being send out to murder Snow White, over having his heart torn out, over being sexually abused, his fairytale life hadn't been pleasant due to Regina. His life in Storybrooke wasn't much better - the lack of a heart meant the partial lack of feelings, and the fact that Regina continued to maintain a sexual relationship with him despite being fully aware that he would never consent to this, were his memories intact is downright skeevy. And in spite of all that, she is still hurt, angry (and murderous) when he rejects her once his memories begin to return.
  • Kathryn Nolan and Sidney Glass make for more excellent examples, but the story essentially remains the same: they are friends, they are allies, all is well - until Regina finds that they are more use dead/gone/as scapegoats.

Never to mention her own father.

Despite all that, there is an exception: her son, Henry. While it isn't entirely clear how far exactly she would go to protect him, she is shown to not only care deeply for him, but in later episodes even willing to give up magic for his sake. She has a hard time putting his needs before hers, often mixing up 'what is best for him' with 'what is best for her'. She is seen acting towards him as she acts towards her 'friends' - attempting to bribe him into loving her - but there are times when her feelings for him appear to be genuine, particularly when he is in danger. She was even willing to work with Emma on those occasions, which says a lot, given her intense hatred for that woman. Still, she has difficulties letting him close, in the same way she has trouble with letting anyone close. There is this image she has created of herself - the queen who is powerful, not because the people love her but because they fear her, and dropping that isn't quite within her abilities at this point.

Timeline: In the late 19th century, during the reign of Emperor Franz Joseph I and Elisabeth of Austria. The cultural height of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: N/A

Personality:

As stated by Himaruya, Austria was born in 976 AD. This was the year that the Babenburgs came into power and unified the territories under the name that would eventually be Austria. As a child, he was close friends with Switzerland, and often harassed by Hungary and Prussia. Despite always being weak and easily defeated in his youth, he was tenacious and brave, and eventually was able to conquer Hungary and take his place as a growing empire. The great and beautiful Danube River flows through his veins, and the famed Austrian Alps are his backbone. His heart is Vienna, and his soul is the music of the centuries.

Throughout his history, Austria has been a world power of sorts, up into the 20th century when the Austro-Hungarian Empire finally fell. As an Empire, Austria was married to first Spain, by the marriage of Philip and Joanna in 1496, which brought the Spanish Empire under Hapsburg rule. This marriage proved lasting and powerful, and was not dissolved until 1700 when the War of Spanish Succession took place.

This was a political alliance at first, as most of Austria's marriages were, but he and Spain eventually were able to come to an agreement, and were quite a close couple during their long marriage. It would be France that dissolved their marriage, with the French Bourbon dynasty taking over in Spain. This divorce was painful for Austria as a person, and the fighting would eventually lead to the War of Austrian Succession as well, in which Austria lost territory to Prussia, and it would eventually lead itself to the Seven Years' War in which he would lose the Holy Roman Empire as well.

His marriage to Hungary began in 1867, and was tumultuous from the start. Revolts, dissent, and other unpleasant political struggles made the empire weak and unstable. However, it was during the 18th and 19th century that Austria's musical dynasty began. Vienna was the heart of the musical world, and the height of culture. Grand balls, sparkling waltzes by Strauss, the great Viennese Romantics, all soothed Austria's artistic soul. Music was his first mistress before all others, and his greatest love.

Any great musician that has passed once through Vienna, Austria knew. He called many of them friends, and adored them for their work and passion. Mozart he loved beyond measure, Strauss was his dearest friend. Schubert, Schumann, Beethoven, Liszt, and of course, Chopin, though he only met Chopin twice. He has befriended them all, and mourned their passing. There are statues of some of these great men erected in palace gardens around Vienna to mark his remembrance.

However, he still mostly enjoys his personal time. His pastries are impeccable as is his coffee, and his music is still at his heart and soul. His devotion to the arts has made him a meticulous man. Each year, as if in member of the old days of the Empire, a ball season is held to usher in the opera season, with waltzes and dancing, fine dress and all that made his imperial days full of splendor. He is ever a gentleman, finely groomed and well-dressed. Soft spoken unless risen to ire, at which point a flare of the old Empire becomes evident in his mannerisms and speech. He does not deal with impertinence or foolish behavior well; it always gets a Look of Extreme Disapproval.

He remains an elegant and sophisticated gentleman, cultured and well-spoken. His accent is that of the Viennese dialect, which varies from the German in many ways. I've provided an example of the late Archduke Otto von Habsburg speaking, who died this past year and was interred with his imperial relatives in Vienna.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ilb7VvGx1Is

Because I’ve taken Austria from the late 19th century, he carries himself a dignity and elegance, but he is always a gentleman first. He has a huge respect for women due to who his wife is, unlike many men of the time period. He is humble despite the many great and glorious things about his Empire, but that is because a gentleman who has power does not need arrogance to prove it, and a man who has arrogance has little power. He is, however, aware that his empire is beginning to decline, after a few decades of infighting and instability despite the growth of high culture. He is a man trying to keep control of the prestige he still has, despite the way it continues to slip through his elegantly gloved fingers.

CHARACTER
Name: Shinji Matou
Canon: Fate/EXTRA
Timeline: Post-death
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: Fate/EXTRA takes place in a canon alternate timeline. This Shinji isn't even the same Shinji Matou that exists in the same general timeframe as Kirei's wife, but is instead a distinct person who was born decades later. So, not only do the two of them not know each other, but they come from completely different times and universes. She has no more reason to interact with him than any other child character, and even then, Shinji is probably going to go out of his way to hide his age by relying mostly on text when using the network.

Personality:
A note to start: When the player first meets Shinji during the prologue, he has been given a fake set of memories just like every other participant in the Moon Cell's Holy Grail War. In his case, he assumes the role of the Shinji Matou seen in the original Fate/stay night. This seems to affect his behavior as least somewhat. For example, his behavior toward Rin is way, way more intense during the prologue than when they're seen interacting afterward. Undoubtedly, he still thinks she's a total bitch, but he's not trying to hit her for talking back to him anymore. So, uh, there's that. The fact that he's stated to actually be a good person as opposed to the original supports this assumption.

Of course, altered state of mind or not, Shinji is still a total jackass. (FUN FACT: He is literally called a "total social retard" in the game.) His dialogue is pretty much a constant stream of how much better he is than everyone else, how it's laughable that the protagonist thinks s/he can beat him, and how pathetically boring everyone is as compared to his genius. Even when he repeatedly screws up over the course of the first round, he goes into the elimination battle confident that he is going to wreck his opponent, going so far as to tell the protagonist to just forfeit so he doesn't have to waste his energy without a hint of irony. Dude has a really, really inflated sense of his own ability.

Of course, it doesn't help that he thinks of the Holy Grail War as nothing more than a video game, going so far as to make references to cutscenes and the like. He's the reigning gaming champion of Japan, so that might make his confidence...kind of understandable? In any case, he doesn't understand the stakes involved in the competition, entering just for the fame, and it comes back to bite him in the ass hard. He got into a situation way over his head because of his own lack of foresight and understanding of the consequences, and in the end he wound up paying for it with his life, the poor kid.

Because that's what he is. A kid. The Holy Grail War of Fate/EXTRA takes place in a digital environment, and the teenage body we see him with is ultimately nothing more than an online avatar. In real life, Shinji is only eight years old. Some of his behavior makes more sense when viewed through this lens; he's an obnoxious little brat, but his immaturity is totally normal for someone his age. His personality is pretty much the perfect storm of "tiny aggressive yappy dog" and "reasons why you should not let your child have unsupervised access to the internet": precocious, desperate for recognition from others, and with a vocabulary full of insults that really shouldn't come out of any eight-year-old's mouth.

Though, in fairness, he is bright for his age, which probably contributes to the aforementioned sense of superiority he has. In between more internet-influenced vernacular like "weaksauce" and "mouthbreather," he throws around words like "plebian" and "proletariat" and speaks more or less like an adult. And that's not even mentioning his hacking ability, which is apparently good enough that he can crack into top-level security files without leaving evidence behind, as well as do things like bar the protagonist from entering certain parts of the Moon Cell. Whether he is or not, he thinks himself on the level of an adult.

Another consequence of his arrogance and precocious ability is the fact that he really, really hates accepting help from other people. He seems to be of the opinion that only people who are weak and incompetent need to rely on others, and when combined with his disdain for those he sees as lesser than him, this probably means no one is going to get help from him, either. (If it benefits him, maybe, but expect him to act like he's being altruistic or something.) Overall, he's the kind of person that wants to take all the credit for things he has accomplished--and if there's no one who can even argue that they deserve some recognition as well, all the better.

Of course, despite his resistance to letting other people take credit for things, he's incredibly quick to blame them when something don't go as planned. His Servant, Rider, gets this a lot, and when she bites back, he's quick to take offense at the mere implication that his inadequacies might have contributed to their failure somehow. The fact that he's so quick to jump to the conclusion that other people are telling him he's at fault might say something about how genuine his confidence is, too, as Rider herself notes. As is often the case, his superiority complex hides a more fragile ego.

Probably not unrelated to the above is that he does seem to be driven by the desire for recognition, praise, and respect. He fumes when someone older than him does what he perceives as looking down on him, and he does state that he has no interest in the actual prize of the Holy Grail War, only wanting the title. Because of his motivations, he's actually pretty easily manipulated by both praise and insults, and he can be made to drop information without much resistance if you push his buttons the right way. Basically, his need to brag and show off doesn't mix well with the Grail War's need for secrecy.

And while Shinji isn't exactly stupid, he doesn't do well under stress. When he realizes he's at a disadvantage, he becomes easily flustered, meaning that his attempts to lie around or cover up his mistakes are obvious as what they are (desperate flailing and pathetic attempts at misdirection). As the in-game week progresses, his attempts to stymie the protagonist become increasingly desperate, and considering he has all the subtly of a bullet to the face, his tricks aren't as hard to see through as he seems to think they are. Basically, he's just really bad at keeping a cool head.

[CANON] Mr. Gold (Rumpelstiltskin) || Once Upon a Time || Reserve || 2 of 3

[personal profile] fairdeal 2012-12-15 10:53 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: First and foremost, there are two sides to this man: his Storybrooke counterpart, Mr. Gold, a quiet yet dangerous and feared man who, during the first season, is commented to 'own the town', and Rumpelstiltskin. As the latter, he instilled much fear in all the people in Fairytale Land thanks to his extremely powerful magic and his twisted deals, with which he somehow always tricked people into giving him what he wanted. When the curse began, he came to live in Storybrooke as Mr. Gold, but made a deal with the Evil Queen/Regina so that he would remember who he was.

In spite of his appearance, Gold is a deceptively strong man, with the advantage of extremely powerful magic on his side. The fact that he's lived most of his extraordinarily long life with this magic has made him quite ruthless. He is, by nature, not a very patient man, and when reaching the limits, he won't hesitate to break out his powers. The same will happen when he is overwhelmed with feelings of sadness, loss or hatred. This makes him a very unpredictable and unstable person, as every little change in his mood can cause him to burst out. Although he became The Dark One so that he could protect his son and oppose bullies, he could be seen as quite a bully himself now, threatening people and scaring and mistreating them into getting what he wants.

Considering how long he's lived, it's a wonder that he still has anything remotely human in him. He is horribly cruel and petty, and he generally won't care for right or wrong, or the pain or joy of others. Almost nothing of what he does comes without second intentions, and it translates to most people mistrusting and disliking him. He is also quite smart with words - he phrases things in a way that lures people into a lie without outright lying to them, therefore always sticking to his word. This shows particularly on the deals he makes, which are riddled with fine print that the other party never reads or even pays attention to, usually resulting in Rumpelstiltskin getting something from them that wasn't agreed on verbally. He is a cunning trickster, and it's only natural that most everyone that knows him is suspicious if he tries any kind of approach.

Inside, he is quite conflicted - on one hand, he wants nothing but power to keep himself above all others, but on the other side, there is still a flicker of hope in him that he'll recover the things he's lost and that those things will drive the darkness away. His true intentions are still very unclear, as many times he seems to be trying to help others but in the end he just uses them for his own personal gain. Case in point, when Emma can't climb up an elevator shaft, he offers to hold onto a precious magical artifact that can break Henry's sleeping curse - a golden egg that contains love potion -, but as soon as he gets his hands on it, he flees and leaves her there.

Rumpelstiltskin was, at first, nothing more but a weak man to whom a lot of bad things happened, and who made a lot of bad choices in a feeble attempt to help and save those he loved. He became The Dark One in a desperate attempt to stop his son from being taken away into the war, but in the end it backfired. Magic slowly consumed him, until there was barely anything left other than a cruel, bitter creature. To him, magic meant a new form of power and status in his life, even though it causes him to lose all the people he loved - his wife Milah to a sea-dwelling man, and his son Baelfire when they are both about to step through a portal to a land without magic, but Rumpelstiltskin, scared of living without his magic, backs out at the last moment.

He is not, however, entirely devoid of love. He has, in fact, helped the Queen create the Dark Curse in hopes that it might have taken him to the same land where his son was. But 28 years in Storybrooke, and he is yet to find his son, although he has revealed that he is still looking for him. He has also met Belle, a beautiful princess that struck a deal with him - she promised him her servitude if, in exchange, he kept her village safe from the Ogre Wars. Over the course of a few months, they get to know each other and end up falling in love. But when Belle attempts to use true love's kiss to break his curse, Rumpelstiltskin is angered, accusing her of trying to destroy him, of attempting to play the hero by defeating the beast all by herself. Deep down, he doesn't believe anybody could love someone like him, and although Belle's feelings are true, he refuses to accept them, in fear of being hurt or of giving up everything only to be tricked in the end.

When later on he is told by the Queen that Belle is dead, he has a fit of rage and smashes practically everything in the living area - with the exception of one chipped cup. In spite of being a ruthless, cold and calculating man, he has moments of anger and frustration, pure sadness and honest happiness that show just how irrevocably human he still is.

Personality:

NOTE: THERE ARE SPOILERS AHEAD. SAIL SAFELY MY LOVES.

”I guess you’ve really gotta watch your step in a game called ’Hero’s Doody’!”

The first thing showcased about Vanellope is her humor. She’s fiercely witty, stubborn and will cling to a joke even as others protest. More than likely, this is actually a shield for her to protect herself with as if you don’t show weakness others won’t be able to use it against you. In this, she’s a prime example but Vanellope is more than fast jabs and giggles. (Though she is very fond of calling people variants of ‘butt’ and poop related words.) She’s a child after all, and her humor can be childish. But there is real maturity behind her at times, perhaps she was forced to grow up and reach that due to the long years she spent alone and bullied or maybe it was already in her code. But Vanellope has the innate ability to see into a person and see that which isn’t quite presented. She sees that Ralph isn’t a bad guy as everyone else seems to think he is and even after he destroys the kart they’d made together in an attempt at protecting her, she accepts his apology for what it is. Likewise, once her true status as Princess Vanellope is remembered she pardons everyone for their harsh treatment. She’s a forgiving young lady and yet, she doesn’t just accept apology and make do as if nothing has happened. For instance, Ralph’s apology is greeted with her calling him the “biggest doodyhead” after he admits it himself and further in her prank on the people of Sugar Rush by stating that everyone who bullied her must be executed. She retracts that a moment later, after they all burst into tears, with laughter and the dissolution of her reign into a democracy.

”What’s that? Didn’t hear ya. Your breath is so bad, it made my ears numb!”

Due to years of bullying, Vanellope has developed a rather cynical outlook on life and the people in it, which manifests in the way that she’s very often prone to sassy comments and insults. But despite this, she’s also incredibly cheerful and bubbly, often in ways you wouldn’t expect a bullied “glitch” to be. She’s a cautious person, and yet once she gets past that and lets someone past her defenses, Vanellope loves and trusts wholeheartedly. Her and Ralph’s relationship is prime example of this, because it was formed on the basis of a trick and developed once they realized they weren’t really too much different from each other. She trusts him quickly after he helps her build a race kart, and that trust is enough to get them through several bumps in the road. But as mentioned before, there’s more to that. Because though Vanellope is loyal, she’s also incredibly forgiving and understanding.

”Everyone here says I’m just a mistake and that I wasn’t even suppose to exist.”

Bullying has taken it’s course on Vanellope and though she believes whole-heartedly that she can race and that she is a part of the game, sometimes she can fall into ennui and believe what she’s told. This is a truly human effect despite her game origins, but sometimes Vanellope too thinks that maybe she wasn’t meant to exist as the other racers and indeed the other occupants of the game tell her. At one point in the movie, Ralph asks Vanellope why she doesn’t just game jump if she’s treated so horribly here, and her only response is, “Don’t you know anything? Glitches can’t gamejump.” There’s probably something of bitterness behind this, because Vanellope is stuck in her game, where she’s feared and hated and bullied constantly. She lives in an incomplete racetrack, alone, and has a record of trying to change things around the game so she can race. Case in point, the door to the “build your kart!” room has a giant painting of Vanellope’s face with an X over it, a “No Glitches allowed!!” sign if ever there was one.

”Racing’s in my code!”
But though Vanellope has lived through difficult things, she’s firm in her belief that she’s a racer, and that above that she’s a great racer. She wants to race, yeah, but Vanellope wants more than that to win and she will do anything in her power to come out on top of that race and find her way into the game’s roster.

[CANON] Lily Potter || Harry Potter || Not Reserved.

[personal profile] weirdoe 2012-12-20 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality: Lily is a friendly, open-minded young woman. She doesn't discriminate: 'blood status', species, race, gender, whatever - none of these matter to her. As a muggleborn witch during the time of Voldemort's first rising, she has had a fair amount of experience regarding what it means to be hated for something she couldn't change. Instead of hiding or denying her heritage, she chose to be proud of who she is, which is something she tends to encourage others to do as well.

To her, every person is equal. She is able to see something good in everyone and she would be the last person to deny someone a second - or maybe even third - chance, no matter a person's flaws. As long as she knows that they have their heart in the right place, she will be by their side and defend them fiercely. However, she isn't naive. If a person refuses to change for the better, or willingly changes for the worse, she won't reach out to them forever, she won't take every new lie they tell her, and she will leave them to their own resources eventually. It takes a lot until she gets to that point, but once she's reached it, there's no easy way to go back.

She is a brave woman. This is a statement that requires repeating in her case: she is a very brave woman. She joined the Order of the Phoenix shortly after leaving school, which meant that she was willing to fight wizards and witches who were older and far more experienced in fighting than her - not to mention far more interested in murdering her. She did it because, in her eyes, it was the right thing to do: defending and protecting others, fight back, ending the war as soon as possible. She didn't care about becoming a heroine, her main concern were the people suffering at the Death Eaters' hands. In the end, she had the choice of surrendering her son, which would mean death to the child, or sacrificing herself to save him, and she chose to die. Thus, saying she would do anything for those she loves isn't an overstatement by far. The point the books keep driving home is how the ability to love is Lily's greatest strength, and there is no point in denying that. The people she loves give her strength, they keep her going, and she goes ways to support, help and protect them, it's as simple as that.

However, 'loving' isn't her only skill, and she surely hasn't prevailed in fights against Death Eaters because of it. She is a brilliant witch, highly skilled in potions as well as charms, and, while she isn't an arrogant person per se, she is aware of her talents.

That aside, she isn't all sunshine and rainbows. She can be self-righteous, she can be judgmental, and she often has a hard time accepting other people's opinions when they drift away from hers. While her ideals are all nice and well, she is very set on them and has a hard time simply backing off and letting things be. Accepting as she may be, it wouldn't be impossible for her to judge someone a little too harshly if something they do or say could be tied to something she would call unjust.

While her preferred course of action would seem to be negotiations, she does have a temper. And that shows, occasionally. It isn't entirely impossible that she draws her wand against someone during an argument in anger, but she is unlikely to actually use it unless she is attacked. What is, however, truly likely is her sharp tongue getting her into trouble on such occasions - she has little inclination to keep her opinion to herself. She does know the difference between 'a good time to say what I'm thinking' and 'a bad time to say what I'm thinking', but it is rare that this actually stops her.

As stubborn as she can be in these cases, she isn't prone to risking people's lives. She went willingly into hiding, as it was the only way to keep her child as safe as possible, and it is indicated that she had an easier time dealing with being hidden than James did. Despite her temper, she can remain level-headed, patient - and even optimistic. That doesn't mean she isn't hurt by the messages of loved ones and strangers alike dying on a daily basis, but overall, she focuses on the positive side: that the war will be won eventually and that Voldemort stands on chance in the long run.

As she is taken immediately post-death, she will have a hard time adjusting at first. She just lost her husband (even if only temporarily) and, in a different way, her one-year-old son to boot, which robs her of two of the people she loves most. She is a strong woman, she can take a lot, and she will be able to pull herself together sooner rather than later, but the very beginning of it will not be easy for her.

[CANON] Thor Odinson | Marvel Cinematic Universe | Reserved

[personal profile] deemedworthy 2012-12-22 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: A warrior-prince of Asgard, Thor was raised to treasure strength, courage and loyalty, all of which he prized dearly. There was nothing he wanted more than to become a great war hero like his father before him, to bring Asgard a victory so great that his name would never be forgotten. Bright and optimistic, he had an idyllic childhood and never wanted for anything, the life of a prince being what it was. Thor was also known for being greedy, vain, and selfish, qualities that his own father did not hesitate to recognize. He was known for being prideful, constantly boasting about his prowess in battle and all the great things he would do for the realm once he was king of Asgard rather than prince, including but not limited to the destruction of Jotunheim.

While he was certainly not without his good qualities, Thor was an arrogant young man who possessed a great sense of entitlement, thanks to his privileged birth as well as his strength and talent on the battlefield. He openly courted war, relishing in violence and eager to spill the blood of his enemies, paying no mind to the consequences of his actions, made evident when he was so wrapped up in the assault on Jotunheim that he would not initiate a retreat even when his companion, Fandral, was wounded. A brash and impulsive thrill-seeker, Thor preferred to follow the promise of an adrenaline rush rather than adhere to common sense or consider the potential damage his foolhardy actions might cause.

Time and experience, however, have changed Thor. He is no longer the conceited prince he was once; his time spent on earth taught him an appreciation for the mortals and their way of life, humbling him a great deal. While he was never particularly unkind, compassion was something he had been lacking as a boy, buried far beneath his ambition and thirst for glory, which had defined him for most of his life. During the brief time spent with the mortals he befriended in New Mexico, he learned to let that warmth and kindness push ambition to the wayside. Though he was always known for being pleasant, his warmth is now more genuine, and he makes a legitimate effort to be friendly and extend that kindness to the people around him, so long as it’s warranted. He has also developed a more human sense of humor, thanks to his time spent with Jane, Darcy and Erik, and has grown fond of well-meaning sarcasm. Enemies are still treated as such, but he is far more likely to seek an alternative solution to war now than he would have been before his exile to Midgard. Being sent away from his family and torn from his friends in Asgard forced him to appreciate exactly how much he’d had, as well as realize just how much he had unknowingly thrown away all for the sake of pride. He began to appreciate that his way, which he considered to be the straightforward way, was not always the best, and not always most befitting of a king.

Not all of his old ways have been forgotten, however. He is still boastful to a degree, still confident in his abilities and his performance in battle. His confidence is not misplaced; his strength is formidable, and paired with his incredible determination, he is not a man anyone should seek to make an enemy of. He remains incredibly stubborn, often unwilling to move from his position once he has chosen it. He is a strong leader who pursues victory by trusting and depending on his team mates rather than shouting orders as he once did, though his combat prowess has not suffered. His anger is truly something to behold, and he is relentless when it comes time to do battle with his enemies, prepared to fight until he can no longer stand if that’s what it will take to win.

Still, not all enemies are created equal. While Loki and his Chitauri army proved themselves to be formidable foes for the Avengers, Thor was not content to leave his brother behind on Earth once the battle had been brought to an end. Though Loki was considered a dangerous war criminal, Thor insisted that as he was of Asgard, as well as his own brother, Loki would be his responsibility. While he does feel that those of Asgard should be responsible for their own, it’s undeniable that Thor still loves his brother. Even though he has referenced Loki as being “beyond reason,” he still holds out hope that one day, Loki will once again be the brother he remembers. As children, Loki was his closest friend, and the rift that has grown between them pains Thor more than he can say. He longs for a return to the way their lives used to be, when they were princes who were not always at odds, though it’s likely that his view of their life in Asgard is somewhat skewed. As vain as Thor once was, he did not notice how overshadowed and jealous his brother felt, a wrong that he desperately wishes to right. While he does not want to dismiss Loki’s actions and plans to still hold his brother accountable, there is nothing Thor wants more than to make amends and see Loki come back home.

CHARACTER
Name: L Lawliet
Canon: Death Note
Timeline: Right as he dies - he will awake in RC living.
Personality: I got this.

Loner. Except for the assistance of Watari, L works alone. It works much better for him this way, as he is not social by nature - but he can have long conversations with someone if needed. He usually only talks business, though. He is very covert, keeping his true identity, his voice, and his face hidden from view - the only way to contact him is through his assistant, Watari. The way he speaks shows that he is intelligent, but he can be a bit blunt and uncaring unless he needs to persuade or manipulate someone, which gives evidence to show he doesn't interact with people all that much.

Arrogant. L has an ego on him, apparent in the way he's collected a few of his aliases. Two of them, Deneuve and Elraldo Coil, were taken from the second and third most famous and brilliant detectives as 'trophies' for defeating them intellectually when solving cases. L is also very childish and hates to lose, as he stated when comparing himself to Kira. He will likely not admit that he makes mistakes until they've been made - however, he would recover gracefully by such a fall from using the information gained from the blunder to collect further information, if possible. He may also later claim that it was part of his plan to mess up - and with that blank face, you can never tell if he means it or not.

Wammy. The only person that L trusts is one Quillsh Wammy, founder of Wammy's House for the Intellectually Gifted of England. Wammy, or Watari as others know him, provided orphans L Lawliet, Nate River, and Mihael Keel with a home. He is L's caretaker and guide, and is the only one with any way to directly contact him. L rigged the information system with all of the Kira case files so that, if he or Watari were to die, all of the data would be erased permanently. Without Mr. Wammy, none of L's work would be possible, and while he doesn't often show it, it was this man whom L went to for comfort for a nightmare about his own death in the anime.

Liar. L does not always tell the truth, and may leave pieces of information out if he feels it is necessary, no matter who he's working with. In his mind, the only people that require full information in a case are himself and Watari - while others are important, they are only pawns. L may also claim that he belives something has a low possibility when he is almost certain of it, especially when, but not limited to, times when people he doesn't trust or overly put faith in are nearby. L is a brilliant manipulator; he will decieve to get the advantage. This is shown when he keeps information from the police and the public about the broadcast he has inmate Lind L. Tailor make, calling it 'worldwide', when in reality, Tailor was posing as L, and the broadcast was only made in the Kanto region of Japan.

Intellect. L relies on logic, deductive reasoning, probability, skepticism, and experience to solve his cases. He's a genius, and a born tactition. While L's methods are unorthodox, and likely produced by a train of thought only he can keep up with, he gets the job done. These methods may not exactly fit into everyone's moral code, either; L will do anything to get a job done, which circles back to his ego and arrogance, pride. He only takes cases that he is interested in. In part of the Kira Case, L was willing to sacrifice the lives of multiple death row inmates just to test and see if the "13 Day" rule of the notebook was false or not. Some of his ideas are radical and insane, but there is, after all, a fine line between genius and insanity.

Eccentric. All geniuses must be ecccentric, and L is no exception. He sits hunched over, rarely sleeps, eats nothing but sweets, and doesn't care about his appearance, since he isn't seen often anyway. He claims that he eats so many sweets, yet remains underweight because using his brain so much burns all of his calories, so he doesn't need exercise. He claims to sit and walk hunched over because, if he doesn't, his analytical abilities will drop 40%; I believe that this is just because he is used to it, and other positions might make him uncomfortable. He also holds things very carefully, with as minimum contact as he possibly can. This likely comes from years of handling evidence, and also not wanting to leave any trace of himself behind.

Tedious. When going over a case, L takes time to listen and observe, absorbing every detail possible to come to the most logical and provable conclusion. He is always listening for hidden meanings within context, implications, reasons to suspect. As a strategist, it is not uncommon for him to be seeming to waste time, when in reality he is just waiting for something he believes will happen. He can use this tactic to test a suspect's patience, and to provide himself with stalling time (and thus thinking time). He waited for weeks on end to try and get a confession out of imprisoned Misa Amane and Light Yagami.

First Person: [L]

[A text comes over the Ruby City network, titled only with the solitary letter 'L' in the subject. It is no-nonsense, no time wasted, and not one bit curious about any of the other people in the city, or the city itself. He has a message that he would like to convey, and that is all; his words hold no confusion.]

Attention, Ruby City.

Call me L. I am a new addition to the area, nothing more. Thank you for your time.

[He pauses, and decides to add:]

But I do have some questions for our captors, if any of you would so oblige.

[/end feed]

Third Person:

Ruby City was the last place that L had expected to show up after death. He hadn't expected anything at all, in fact; afterlives just weren't all that plausible, in his books. But since he was here now, he figured that he should try to get ay information that he could from the people who had brought him here. What he had needed to know about the city itself, he had read on the posters. He knew that the food and housing were free. He knew that there was no internet; however there was a library, and a social-network-slash-announcing-system run on the watches. He knew about the danger of awful random events, and the animals in the woods, and the catacombs. He knew that he couldn't go back to his world until his kidnappers let sent him back. He'd read all of this on the helpful flyers.

He didn't know what would happen if his kidnappers decided to send him back. He had accepted that he was stuck here, but what if he was sent back? Would he be alive, or go to his afterlife or lack thereof? There was the eighty percent possibility still that all of this was a dream, but as the seconds ticked by, that was becoming less and less likely. He hadn't even had time to ponder the injustice that the people running the place may or may not be doing to the captives here. With any luck, he would get his answers. All he had to do was keep one step ahead in his thought process, and ask and make any of the seven answer the right question. It would need to take a little time, to get an understanding of each of the personalities show to him, and thus he could ascertain which questions to ask whom.

Dealing with now, however...as for interacting with the civilians of Ruby City, it was best to simply stay back in the shadows and observe for a while. He had needed to make his presence known - perhaps one or more of the captives would contact him, and he would be able to collect more tidbits of information for this investigation. He was going to keep texting only, and if seen in the open he would simply refer to himself by one of his many aliases - likely something not including the L sound, which left Hideki Ryuuga and Deneuve. Though, the former was Japanese, which L was not, and the latter was French as well as one word, which sounded out of the ordinary and also which L could not quite pretend to be. Picking too generic or famous an alias would also be too suspicious, not to mention predictable, so he would have to be completely random.

He would be known, face-to-face, as Nathan Rivers.

CHARACTER
Name: Henry Mills
Canon: Once Upon A Time
Timeline: Season 2 Episode 8 - Into the Deep

Personality:A lot of Henry's personality traits have been descended from what we know of his mother and his grandparents. The selflessness, putting other needs in front of his own and the faith that his actions are for the right reasons. Ever since Mary Margaret gave him the Once Upon a Time book, he has been claiming the entire populous of Storybrooke was under the curse described in the book and he spends all of time and energy trying to find a way to break it.

Despite his actions having bad consequences, he does what needs to be done to achieve his goals and doesn't care about the cost to himself. He steals Mary Margaret's credit card to find Emma and then to get to Boston and bring her back to Storybrooke. He misses days of school to make her understand about the curse and try and get her to help him break it. And he eats the cursed apple turnover just to make Emma believe he is real. All of which he does selflessly in the faith that what he is doing will have the results he hopes for.

After the curse is broken, he continues to have faith that Emma and Mary Margaret are safe and looking after each other in the Fairytale Land even if he needs a little convincing from David. Despite his outward appearance of bravery, he is still just a child and needs the reassurance and love of his family to help him get through rough spots - which there have been many both before the curse and after. He also has faith in Regina that she can change and be good, and this faith in her is just as important to her as it is to him.

The thing Henry wants most of all, is to be a hero. And he gets this chance when he can use his sleeping curse to get messages to Emma and Mary Margaret in the Fairytale Land. But this comes at the price of using magic given to him by Gold and he also sees Regina use magic. This magic is something he is very wary of as he has only seen the bad side to magic through the curse and the other acts Regina does after the curse is broken. This is why he asks Regina to promise not to use magic.

Henry's want to be a hero is dampened, however, by everyone around him treating him like a child. He may be one on the outside but he is strong and brave on the inside which he wants to show. Sadly, there is a fine line between bravery and stupidity and it almost gets himself killed not long after Emma decides to stay. He goes into the mine and gets trapped trying to find proof that his book is real. He believes that if people treated him more as an adult, then this might not have happened.

All in all, Henry may just be a child but he is very courageous and selfless and willing to do what is necessary to prove this and help anyone in trouble, especially those he loves.

First Person: [Henry stumbled from the train, clutching his left arm. Looking around, he's not very happy with where he is or what's going on.]

Aurora! Where are you? [He staggers to one of the benches and notices a watch in his pocket. Flicking it open onto the video setting he looks confused and hurt.]

Hello? Is anyone there? My name is Henry Mills and I'm looking for a girl called Aurora. I need to tell her something important.

And if anyone has heard of Emma Swan, Regina Mills or David Nolan...[He drops the watch to the ground, needing to clutch his arm again, and it switches off. Sitting on the bench, waiting, he wonders what happened and where he is now.]

Third Person: It was Saturday and Henry had left the flat he now shared with David over an hour ago. Since then, he'd visited Granny for some hot chocolate and walked around most of the town. Except...he'd avoided Mifflin Street. With everything that had happened, he wasn't sure if he wanted to see the house let alone the occupants. And he wasn't even sure what to call her anymore. She wasn't really his mom anymore. That was Emma. But calling her Regina felt too weird.

Henry sat down on the corner, his old house just out of sight. He'd given this matter a lot of thought while David had been trying to save Emma and Mary Margaret. He knew he still cared about her and she apparently cared about him. She'd even promised not to use magic any more. But she wasn't the most trustworthy character in the book.

Shaking his head, Henry decided to go off to the playground. He may not have his castle but at least the playground would be just as good. He'd have some fun and take his mind of the "mom" situation. He nodded, smiling. Now that was a plan he didn't even have to name!
