✗ Before applying, please read the FAQ and Rules pages.
✗ Please submit your application with the journal you plan to use if you have one made already. If not, another journal is fine, but we prefer your intended journal so it makes for an easier time in granting access to the mod journal and the contacts page.
✗ For very long applications, we would ask you to please separate them into various comments so that they will not take up too much of the page.
✗ Please title your application as { [CANON/CANON OC/OC]CHARACTER NAME || Series Title || reserve/no reserve || X of X } in the subect header
IMPORTANT: Our application form was edited on September 07, 2015. Please use the revised form.

A note for CR AU applications
Ruby City does allow previous game history/CR to be brought over on a case by case basis. If you want to include this in your application please add additional sections for PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT and PREVIOUS GAME HISTORY beneath the Personality and Background/History sections.

In these additional sections we would like to see a brief outline of your character's previous game history and how it potentially impacted on and altered their canon personality.

2/...?

[personal profile] albuquerque 2013-09-16 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality:
Having lived a childhood of abuse and neglect, the foundations and understandings of trust and love normally fostered in children from their parents was absent in Severus Snape. Severus learnt from a young age, due to his father's anger and abusive nature, to keep very tight control of his emotions. Bullying at school further caused him to retreat emotionally. Only under strong emotional duress or provocation does his temper and true emotional state show itself.

His adult complexes of being unpleasant are also culturally imbued in him from having grown up in a very rough neighbourhood, where morale was low and crime was high. Surliness, rudeness (preferably called "being blunt") and antisocial attitudes are the norm for those who grew up in the hardened areas of Manchester, Birmingham and England's north, where his hometown of Cokeworth is situated; such attitudes are even respected and encouraged, as they're culturally regarded as virtues of 'honesty' and 'genuineness'.

Severus views the world very negatively. His tumultuous childhood and adolescence taught Severus that the world is unsafe, cannot be trusted and that there is little positive outcome in life. He is not without being a bully himself, either - he subscribes to strict, authoritarian values, often without mercy, and sees nothing wrong in disciplining others in ways that others would consider draconian.

He has a dry sense of humour that is very rarely demonstrated with mirth. He is witty but cynically so, and has no issue with making cutting and snide, if not sometimes downright cruel, remarks. He firmly believes that it is not up to him to pander to the feelings and emotions of others; rather, it's up to others to grow a "thick skin" and to accept the fact that life isn't fair.

Owing to his avoidant and introverted personality, he finds escapism in books and his own private studies. He is a strictly private man who does not divulge any details of himself to others if he can help it. He is very widely read as a result of his relationship with books - including Muggle literature, quite of number of which he (begrudgingly) found thoroughly enjoyable.

The only person whom Severus trusts, outside of Dumbledore, is himself. He had to learn from a young age to become self-reliant and to pride himself on his intellect and magical skill, which is the only area where any self-esteem has ever lay. As a teenager and a young man, he had little to no self-esteem in his physique or appearance; however, as he grew older, he came to care less and less about those particular facets of himself in favour of priding himself on his intellect, perspicacity and magical acumen.

He is obsessively self-disciplined, a trait he's learned not just from his abusive childhood but also, especially, from working as a double-agent for the Order. He only ever takes very calculated, very planned risks; he does not act on impulse, but rather on carefully regulated instinct and almost always with an agenda. He is cold, dismissive, easily irritated by people who attempt to interfere with his business and by people who display ignorance or recklessness. When he commits to something, he applies himself with unwavering focus. That said, he does not do favours for people willingly. He only acts with benevolence when he deems it absolutely necessary; he otherwise has no issue with flatly refusing to help someone if he feels they don't deserve it, or if he simply doesn't like them.

He struggles immensely (but very privately) with issues of guilt and grief; grief over Lily's death, which he to this day has never gotten over, and guilt for his unintentionally direct role in causing Voldemort to go after the Potters. He also battles with guilt concerning the bad and misguided choices he made as a youth to become involved with Death Eaters and with the Dark Lord's campaign. And while he fully understands that killing Dumbledore was a mercy killing, for both Dumbledore and for Draco, he lives with the guilt of having killed Dumbledore, the only person who ever completely and unconditionally accepted him even despite his failures, shortcomings and horrendous mistakes. He viewed Dumbledore as not just a mentor but a father figure and he struggles to this day without Dumbledore's guidance.

However, due to his maladaptive ability to cope emotionally, he takes his mental anguishes out on others in the form of brusque and cold dismissiveness, and derives a twisted sense of pleasure out of hurting or scrutinising others whom he deems useless or unworthy of his tolerance. He operates very much on an "eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth" approach to human interaction and relationships, except in (usually rare) cases where he esteems a person with high respect; or in cases where he knows that conducting himself with impassive respect will work much more in his favour.

Despite all of this, however, he is not without the ability to love. Severus is an immensely passionate man; he is passionate about his Craft, about intellect, philosophy, literature, principality, self-control, and he holds an undying, unconditional love for Lily Evans, the only woman (and person, for that matter) that he has ever truly loved. He is, deep down, deeply romantic, however has never (and likely will never) allow that side of himself to surface in the face of others.

Severus is not a bad person, but he has made some very bad choices in his life. Had he had a childhood that fostered a great deal more love and care in him, he likely would have become a very decent man. That's not to say that he would have been a nice man, even with love and care fostered in him, as Severus simply has a cold personality by nature, inherited from his father. But perhaps he would have made choices that were nowhere near as misguided by a desperation for acceptance and approval had he been loved and nurtured from childhood. Severus is the classic example of a very troubled youth who fell into the wrong crowds for the wrong reasons because he simply believed he didn't deserve any better, and he paid dearly for the price. He's still paying the price.

Ultimately, there is a distinct difference between being a good person and a nice person; Severus is, by and large, a good person, but he is not nice.

CHARACTER
Name: Draco Malfoy
Canon: Harry Potter
Age: 18
Timeline: Post-war, 2 months after it ended.
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: n/a

Personality: Draco Malfoy is a product of his raising and his environment. The son of a well-to-do, long standing family of wealth in the Wizarding World, he was raised as one would expect nobility to be. Drilled in protocol and etiquette since his early youth, Draco is never lost in any social situation. This also lends itself to his mask of superiority. It is his defense mechanism, one taught to him by his father, and one he will likely never be rid of. It was his saving grace many a time, and deeply ingrained habits like these never truly fade away or break.

Beneath his mask of superiority is a young man who cares deeply when his trust and loyalty are given, though that is a rarity. And contrary to popular belief, he does hold a firm grasp of ethics, and knows when things go too far. This may not have always been so in his youth, as he followed along behind his father blindly, but the war did much to open his eyes.

Draco went from being the vain, pompous git of Slytherin in school, to quickly being changed in the unprotected world of Reality. Being as he entered into the Death Eaters in his final years at school, Draco was immersed into the darker, seedier side of the war. The ‘good’ people may have seen atrocities, but it was nothing like what he witnessed and went through. There was no choice in the matter, it was do as you were told or become a broken puppet, since really death would have been a blessing. This means Draco has more than a few skeletons in his closet. He suffers from occasional night terrors and insomnia, and more often than not when he’s lost in thoughts he gets a look of anger on his face or looks as if at any moment he’ll break under the sheer weight of them.

[personal profile] dracolucmalfoy 2013-09-21 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
Draco holds a hair-trigger temper, easily flared up with mocking him and his family and position. However, he is getting better at not lashing out... at least not first. He is also becoming more adept at thinking before speaking. Less inclined to hand out insults like they were free candies. He's slowly becoming a true adult, and gaining the control over his rash actions in the process. However, this is a work in progress, and this is only the beginning, his control isn't anywhere near perfect.

Another thing about Draco, is his cold and aloof like attitude. Haughty and arrogant. It is all he knows. The expression of honest emotion is not something he knows and is comfortable with above showing anger. So his affectionate gestures are always reserved, especially in public. Even in his sexual encounters, with how knowledgeable and precise in giving pleasure he is... he still holds back from completely enjoyment himself. Stressed easily, his only real escape comes in the form of making potions. Taught by his mentor, they are his passion.

Background: See Here.

Abilities: Magic. Draco is a wizard and with his wand he can perform magic. Draco is also skilled at making Potions, though he does not have a Mastery in it. Draco has also learned various dark spells from his father, then later through his involvement as a Death Eater.

First Person: [Draco has experienced much in his eighteen years of life. A lot of things he rather have never experienced in any shape or form, thank you very much. However this was a first. Kidnapped. He was kidnapped and then dumped. This makes Draco purse his lips as he gripped his wand tightly. Then he notices something different. His pocket heavier than it should be.

He reaches in and pulls out a watch. He turns it this way and that, opening it, testing it visually before casting diagnostic spells on it; basic spells any teen worth their salt at Hogwarts could learn to cast. Still, best to be safe. While fiddling with it he unwittingly activates a video feed. A thin, angular face can be seen, clean-shaven with pale blond hair brushing down past the tops of his ears - much longer than was his usual, but then he's been busy.]

Bloody hell, can't even tell the time.

[Then the feed cuts off after some more rustling is heard. Draco puts it back into his pocket and looks around as he leaves the train behind him. This was going to be annoying, kidnapped by incompetents who couldn't even remove his wand.]

CHARACTER
Name: Johan Liebert
Canon: Monster
Age: 20
Timeline: After the burning of the library, when he disappears
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this? NOPE

Personality: At first, Johan seems like a polite, amicable, and a charming young man--not overly social and somewhat reserved, but easy to get along with; he's honest, hard working, and very smart. A gentle, caring person. This is all relatively true.

But far from the actual truth.

'Johan Liebert' is primarily intangible, infamously difficult to pin down in any single aspect.

As far as personalities go and are defined, Johan is both one of the most overwhelming and one of the most innocuous.

Johan is manipulative, cunning, deceitful... and dangerous. His stated goal as a child was to be the last one standing at the end of the world; despite this, he repeatedly invites Dr. Tenma, a man who saved his life, to pull the trigger and kill him. Possessed of a driving WORD (compulsion? motivation? sense of?) for destruction, he has a vision--a specific vision--of the end of the world. A cold, bleak wasteland, devoid of life...

He is compelled by fear and by death, and yet indifferent to them; the concept of the human being as monster is central to his canon, and Johan serves as the catalyst for this development in others--directly or indirectly, the 'Monster' in Johan feeds, inspires, or reflects the 'Monsters' in others around him. It is often intentional. Terrifyingly intelligent, Johan easily involves himself in concepts and 'worlds' (most notable the financial world)--the kind that most people spend their entire lives trying to master, or at least participate in--and masters them easily. His 'play' in such spheres is sometimes subtle, but always cruel--not to mention tremendous in scope. "Like a child disturbing a line of ants," according to more than one person. He treats people much the same way, but in his hands they become much more like tools, conveniences or contrivances in his plans--the pieces of his 'game' rather than the game in and of themselves.

Humans... can become anything. But death is the great equaliser. All humans are equal in death. And so humans themselves are simultaneously 'special' and nothing at all.

He is not, by technicality, a serial killer, but a mass-murderer; a serial killer must have killed at least four people and have a modus operandi--while Johan has killed far more than four people and certainly appears to have an initial pattern in victims, the final facts do not support this: the murders of several middle-aged couple (former foster parents of Johan all) were only the tip of a very large iceberg. He has systematically and indiscriminately killed dozens and dozens of people, either directly or indirectly--many of them were killed by a third party, either loyal to him or hired to do so, while others were simply driven to suicide... or just helped along. Of course, all third party killers were summarily executed by Johan himself. As a brilliant, sometimes nigh-whimsical artist of corruption and destruction, Johan is capable of devising flawless plans on a near-moment's notice, occasionally improvising new steps or twists as he thinks of them.

However, Johan lacks a cogent sense of self. He is a non-person, but at the same time, his 'self' is split into two people, as the Monster in A Nameless Monster splits in half, one half to go East, the other West. In a sense, he and Nina are two independent selves of a unifying identity, but because Johan himself is consumed by another concept of 'self'--or rather, the Monster--his self is always being consumed and consuming, in a constant, active state of erasure. Nina herself is a threat to his existence, just as much as she is essential to it, and so must be consumed or absorbed into him, just as Johan from A Nameless Monster consumes his original 'other half', the Monster who went West.

His sense of self is so elusive that he can easily "become" other people--people who do not exist, people who do exist, idealised concepts of people who could exist... this is most noticeable in the subtle alterations of his apparent 'self', but happens most momentuously when he takes his twin sister's memories for his own--or rather, subsumes them and then mistakes them for his own. He physically takes on her identity for a period of time (following the burning of the library), seamlessly adopting and shifting between into her personality and physical appearance and his own. This is an excellent illustration of his ambiguous and enigmatic relationship with his twin. He often refers to his sister as his "other self," and repeats various permutations of "you are me, and I am you," both to his sister and, once, to his mother's portrait (right before burning the entire mansion it is in), but Johan also frequently speaks of the meaninglessness of names, their unnecessary nature, and is periodically explained to be 'a person who does not exist.' Indeed, for the first half/two-thirds of Monster, Inspector Lunge believes 'Johan' to be nothing but an alternate personality of Kenzou Tenma.

This is revealed to be untrue, and the reasoning for his murders varies wildly. Often they are related to his immediate goals or the desire to eradicate and/or remove all traces of his existence from the world, to become a non-person, to protect his secret 'self'--but sometimes it was simply convenient, easy, or too much trouble to handle otherwise.

And sometimes it simply suited him to do so.

It is has been questioned whether or not he has true emotions; he certainly has no capacity for guilt, and there is no doubt that he possesses a nuance of maliciousness, but it is key that Johan's cruelty is rooted not in insensitivity, but indifference--or desire. His motivations are complex, and the driving sense of despair he manifests is characterised from a sense of loss, of being unwanted. His expression and experience are so empty that it appears as though he possesses, at most, very small fluctuations within a single band of neutrality and thought. It would still be incorrect to say that he does not express emotion--that he does not cry, or smile, or laugh. He does all of these things freely... but as an act. They are superficial displays and affectations rather than true emotional reactions. His true state, as it seems, is 'emptiness.'

In the end, however, the difference may be meaningless to all but himself. After all, Johan possesses extraordinary charisma, manipulative ability, insight, and intellect; whatever he feels is going to be as apparent to others as he wants it to be.

Most of the time.

Background: A link.

Abilities: Basically, Johan is the undisputed master of the mental game. He's brilliant, sensitive, charismatic, and a virtuoso of such diverse spheres as financial markets, law, communication, literature, and murder. He's also an expert at erasing his presence--nay, his very existence--and so practised at it that even with a body trail numbering in the hundreds, he is capable of walking away without a trace of his influence. More than anything, though, Johan is a master of manipulation--it is via manipulation that most of his schemes are controlled, and most of his murders are completed. It's much easier to convince people to kill themselves or provoke people into killing each other, after all. There is literally no way to overstate Johan's ability in this regard. He also canonically speaks five languages with complete fluency: French, German, Latin, English, and Czech--and mastered them in about four years.

First Person: [A fair-haired young man appears in the video, his brow slightly furrowed... at least until he realises it's actually recording him. Then his expression brightens a little, as though he's pleased to have figured it out. Interesting--a watch as computer. It was certainly creative. However...

His enthusiasm wanes again in favour of a more worried expression.
]

Hello, I'm... ah, my name is Hans. I'm here at the train station, having just gotten off a train I don't recall boarding. I'm gathering this is... expected? Could someone explain this to me? It would be much appreciated.

[He manages to sound pretty upbeat and collected despite his obvious concern.

He had things he wanted to do. Things he needed to take care of.

This was not one of them.
]

CHARACTER
Name: Hotsuma Renjou
Canon: Uragiri wa Boku no Namae wo Shitteiru
Age: 16.
Timeline: Before episode 5.
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: N/A

Personality: At first glance Hotsuma may seem sullen and rude, and some people have even called him "an unfriendly hothead, with a dirty mouth". And to an extent this is true, but only because the experiences within his past shaped him into the self-loathing, agonized individual he is today.

When we first meet Hotsuma he’s standoffish and rude, and after saving Yuki from death snaps at him over being stupid enough to wander off on his own. He then goes on to say that he hates taking care of people that don’t have their memories, and when Yuki tries to touch him immediately snatches his hand away and states that he doesn’t want to be touched. Once the cavalry arrives he’s quick to leave with his partner in tow, not even bothering to give Yuki a second glance or a goodbye. Throughout the series this doesn’t change much; his relationship with Yuki expands and grows, and he learns to trust again, but as far as his relationships with his peers go it still remains the same. He’s brash, compulsive and quick to lose his temper, several times snapping and yelling at someone/something whenever he gets ticked off.

At the heart of things, though, Hotsuma truly loves people, and was even popular as a child, but hates himself and will do everything he can to push them away, convinced that he will only hurt them in the end when he loses control of his temper and his powers. He does not understand how and why someone would like him, believing himself to be capable of only hurting the people that become close to him. When a girl confessed her feelings to him he automatically became hostile, since they weren’t very close acquaintances, and immediately told her to stop spouting off crap like that without thinking it through. It is his belief that if anyone learns more about him, if anyone gets close to him they will immediately abandon him like when he was younger. If being unfriendly and yelling at them means that he won't start to care about people, then fine, he'll do it. He's even said that he'd prefer not to hurt someone that he loves again.

Deep down, though, Hotsuma is a very lonely person, and will succumb easily to despair and depression if left alone. Earlier in his life, after he had been abandoned and cast off, shunned by all his peers and referred to as a “monster”, he tried to kill himself, questioning if he still existed since nobody was willing to look at him. Shuusei is the one that saved him from this fate, but not without a price, and their relationship reflects that. Shuusei is one of the few people that has remained at his side after being hurt, and because of that he is both one of the most important people to him, and also someone that Hotsuma trusts immensely. This is evidenced by the fact that they have been partners all this time, as Hotsuma has stated that he can't work with someone that he doesn't trust with his life. This is a double edged sword, though, because every time he sees the scar that he left on Shuusei he feels regret for hurting him, and becomes disillusioned by the idea that he has to spend the rest of his life atoning for it.

To sum it all up: Hotsuma is a big baby with trust issues. He believes that he is pretty much incapable of controlling his powers and snaps at people in order to push them away. He does care, and it's funny to consider that he cares so much that he's willing to destroy any friendship he even starts in order to stop from hurting anyone again.

Background: http://betrayalknowsmyname.wikia.com/wiki/Hotsuma_Renjou and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uraboku. If more information is needed, I'll be glad to write it out!

Abilities: Hotsuma possesses the “Voice of God”, and with it can call down hellfire upon his enemies. He can control it, to an extent, but it all depends on how it’s used. However it has been known to act without his knowledge, most significantly when he was trying to protect someone and ended up burning another child. He also possesses a curved blade called Master Stroke, which he summons into existence with the ring on his finger and also uses it to inflict fire on his foes.

[personal profile] mikoshibas 2013-10-12 12:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality: At first glance, Mikoshiba might look intimidating and serious, standing at a height of 6’2” (and this is Japan, after all), as well as he’s the captain for a swimming team that’s nationally renowned as a swimming powerehouse. However, he’s actually far from, though while of course as a captain - he has his moments where he’s will be taken seriously. He has to make tough calls, but he’ll do it because it’s his duty.

Other than that Mikoshiba’s a good guy, always grinning and acting friendly with everyone, always keeping an eye out for his team mates. In the drama CDs he’ll joke with Nitori and Rin on a very close level, implying that he has a good relationship with his team mates. He also seems to have an affection for cute girls, quick to casually flirt with Rin’s little sister when he first meets her. (Sadly, he doesn’t have the permission to date her. - Yet. One day…..)

He shows good leadership in the way he manages a quite large swim team, staying serious when it matters as well as he shows great skill and knowledge of what he does. It’s also shown that his team actually respects him, so he’s no joke. When it comes to decisions he’s precise and thinks of what’s best for the team, like for example when Rin shows poor team spirit, Mikoshiba makes the decision to take him off the relay because while Rin is a good swimmer, a relay is a team sport. But, in the end, when Rin swims for Iwatobi in the relay instead and comes to Mikoshiba apologizing, he offers him mercy and doesn’t kick him off the team as long as he does it for their team, next time. He might make ruthless decisions, but he’s not heartless. It’s what makes him a good captain.

Much like the rest of the people in this show, he seems to be really enjoying swimming. In the episode you do get to see him swim he breaks the pool record, looking genuinely thrilled at the announcement. In the end, though, Mikoshiba’s your normal teenage guy. A bit on the tall side with lots of muscles, but still coming up with dumb jokes and hitting on girls. He’s helpful and always has good intentions, though they sometimes might seem a little weird -- is him calling Kou “Gou-kun” a really terrible way of teasing her? We just don’t know.

Background:
Not much is known about Mikoshiba’s background as he’s a minor character. He’s the captain of Samezuka’s swim club and a senior at the high school. He’s first introduced when Kou first visits Samezuka in order to find her brother, seeming intimidating at first but actually turning out to be a good guy who just happens to like cute girls. Since then he pops up every time Samezuka appears, though nothing’s stated about his past, at least yet.

In the swimming competition, however, he’s shown to be an incredibly skilled swimmer, to prove why he’s the captain of the Samezuka’s powerhouse. In the Drama CD, it’s mentioned that he lives with his family, and has a younger sister at the same age as Kou -- this coming from a misunderstanding between Rin and him, where Rin thinks Mikoshiba went on a date with his precious sister.

[let me know and i could fill in empty spaces with headcanon, but.. ]

- Swims really well

Slight additional note:
Even though I have her coming from post-Cynthia recruitment, which obviously says Sumia's married, as to not put any possible pressure on potential castmates, I'm leaving leaving her husband/Cynthia's father unnamed.

Personality: Annie comes across as aloof, uninterested, and even cold. She plainly has no interest in taking part in group activity, she's quiet at meals while everyone else is hooting and hollering, or at least talking to the people beside them. When confronted about skipping out on hand-to-hand combat training, she makes no excuses and says it's unnecessary, therefore she won't waste her time or energy. She's already well trained in it, but more importantly, it doesn't count towards grades, and because of that, she goes as far as to say only an idiot would participate. She knows what her goals are, and she will do anything to achieve them, but pointedly will not bother with anything else. Others see this as laziness, and Annie won't contradict them, but in reality, it's simply a strategy.

Similarly, she avoids creating any 'bonds'. While she appears to show interest in and concern for a few of her comrades on a few rare occasions, she is always sure to be standoffish and not to follow up on these instances. Again, something like friendship is unnecessary to her goal. Having their trust, yes, but she can't put her trust in them for fear of creating or showing weakness herself. Her father told her to treat everyone as her enemy - and it's very likely she took this to heart, not only for humans, but other titanshifters as well. She trained with her father nearly all her life and it seems as though his teachings have givin her a rather nihilistic worldview.

Annie does take pride in her hand-to-hand combat abilities and seems to genuinely enjoy it. When Eren expresses interest, she smiles for the first time, offering to teach him. Despite her role as a doubleagent, she's afraid of death and being captured. Rather, most of all she's afraid of failing. In addition, she's shown apologising to a body while the soldiers are cleaning up the streets of Trost and collecting corpses, and again, seems to show genuine emotion.

At first, it seems as though she wants to join the military police because it's an easy and safe job, far from titan threat, and the military police are considered to live in luxury. At the same time though, she has some admiration for those who wish to put their life on the line and join the scouting legion, and shows disgust in those who would waste their talent on the military police, where they will never see a titan, despite being the ones most capable of fighting them. Even so she chooses to go this route, claiming she's a coward. However, after her purpose is discovered it's clear this was a lie. She had to join the military police, it was part of her mission. They needed a titanshifter within those ranks as a doubleagent. Perhaps if she had been a regular human, she would have joined the rest in the scouting legion, but no matter what sort of feelings she may have on the matter, her mission is her duty.

Annie tends to be the first one to recognise and state her faults. Calling herself a coward, for example. Although in some cases, such as that same example, most would think she isn't really. Annie doesn't seem the type to be a coward, and the way she continues to fight, always, shows any fears she has aren't simple cowardice. To Annie this isn't putting herself down or anything like that, it's simply knowing her own strengths and weaknesses, so she can offset them. It's all part of being a soldier. She can't be cocky lest it become her downfall. But she also can't be too humble or lacking in selfworth without running into problems.

[CANON] Dracula || Castlevania || no reserve || Part 2

[personal profile] what_is_a_man 2013-10-18 02:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality:
Since his creation - for lack of a better term - Count Vlad Tepes ruled over a small area in Romania where his castle was located. For a time, he seemed to be a fairly good ruler, if strict. Of course rumors about what he really was would be spread and people would fear him. However, it wasn't until his wife - Lisa - was accused of Witchcraft and burned at the stake for simply consorting with him and bearing a child that anything concrete about his personality emerged. Once angered, Vlad showed a distinct hatred for all things relating humanity, ordering his minions to wipe out everything they could, leaving no survivors of any kind. His castle became a testament to his hatred for humanity as the rather gruesome and grotesque methods of execution of any prisoners or intruders were put on display in his courtyard. This was when he earned the nickname "Dracula" - or son of the dragon.

Along with his hatred for humanity, there is one other thing that Vlad hates more than anything: God. His creation itself was a direct attack on God and the divine rule. He often rationializes his actions as being nothing different from what the Church itself does. He has even taunted his adversaries in drawing direct comparissons between those that follow him and those that follow the Church. He has even gone so far as to construct a chapel in his very castle, seemingly to taunt the Almighty and make assailants question their faith. Even when Holy relics are used as weapons against him, he reasons that it is not any divine power that gives these relics their function, but rather latent magical powers running in the blood of those that use them. It is not God that makes things "holy" but rather wizard or witch ignorant of their own power that turns otherwise common items into weapons.

Despite his hatred for most things, there is a softer side to the "Dark Prince," though he is careful to keep that part of his image concealed. This is no more evident than when dealing with his family. Lisa was the only human to ever treat him with respect and dignity, rather than view him as simply a vampire to be killed. In turn, he afforded her the same respect and dignity. Eventually these feelings turned to love, and they were married - in secret. Together they had a son, Adrian. Even after Lisa's death and Adrian joined the side of the Belmonts, Vlad's feelings for his son can be seen in his attempts to convince Adrian to join his side, seeking an alliance with his son rather than conflict. When Adrian defeats his father and informs him of Lisa's last words, pleading for peace rather than vengeance, he expresses remorse and asks Lisa's forgiveness. However, this seems to be short lived as in subsequent resurrections, he expresses his hatred for humanity anew. As inconsistent as this may seem, it is worth noting that his very castle is host to a spirit of Chaos that has influenced his mind for centuries, and his sudden mood swing could be attributed to that. (This is also partially why I am taking him from the canon point I am, so as to avoid that confusion.)

CHARACTER
Name: Vincent Valentine
Canon: Final Fantasy VII
Age: 60/27
Timeline: Post-Advent Children
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: N/A

Personality: Tall, dark, and serious, Vincent Valentine is a quiet man with a brooding--and sometimes mysterious--presence. The penultimate stoic, he shows (and often feels) very little in the way of emotion; he spends most of his time by himself and routinely returns even simple questions or overtures with complete silence. Part of this is simply that he is extremely private, and in being so keeps the bulk of his opinions entirely to himself. In person he is severe and often abrupt--not curt, as one might think, but he often condenses his communication into as few words as possible or demonstrates his meaning in silent gesture instead of speaking. Behind the no-nonsense, brooding exterior, however, he is in fact wracked with guilt, and holds himself deeply responsible for many things that are not conclusively or even reasonably his fault, and carries their burden as an immense weight on his soul. He views himself as a sinner, unworthy and incapable of penance or redemption, and bears this weight in silence, pushing himself to act in both accordance and exception to it as he struggles to locate a place for himself in a living, feeling world. This has taken a toll on his mind and his emotional involvement in the world, resulting in a numbed, cold response to much of the world around him, exacerbated by his inherently reserved personality and sharpened by his few years of waking experience.

When he does participate in social situations, he is slightly uncomfortable and decidedly cryptic, preferring to maintain a cold, professional distance from the situation and the people around him. Vincent often speaks in metaphor or vague reference, making him one of the more difficult AVALANCHE members to talk to. He is highly perceptive and naturally intelligent, however, and instinctively analyses new situations with a critical eye, weighing conditions and variables quickly to come up with the most rational (and effective) results. Given time, he prefers to disseminate things in detail--Vincent is a thinker as much as a doer, and many of his conclusions are intellectually, not emotionally, motivated. Guilt, however, is often his strongest motivator, and much of his action through Final Fantasy VII and Advent Children is driven through it. Unlike the other members of AVALANCHE and most of their supporting cast, Vincent is not necessarily a 'good guy'--he has his own agenda and supports it the entire way through, doing as he feels and sees fit for himself and his own causes. He is not, as he will tell you up front, a hero. Without the sugarcoating, the facts are these: Vincent is a dangerous and very self-motivated person with questionable (if extant) morals. He does what he feels he has to, but not out of any sense of self-sacrifice, save for Lucrecia is concerned. For her, he might quite possibly end the world.

Instead, he stopped it from ending.

He is still learning to find his place in a world that kept going without him.

As far as his own well-being goes, Vincent is utterly fearless. He is, however, definitively afraid of himself and the knowledge of things he has the potential to do. He is extremely dangerous and is immenintly aware of it, holding within himself four demons over which he exerts little to no control. This affects his decision to separate himself from other people as well as justifies it, and the distance he keeps grows over time as he becomes more and more familiar with the terrible possibilities of the things he cannot control. He is iminently afraid of failure--he has sinned enough in his life, and bears the guilt with stoic resignation and a sense of responsibility, but the prospect of failing further drives him to both action and isolation in equal turns. In this way, Vincent is as much a liability to himself as he is a powerful weapon. Unpredictable and dangerous, his limit breaks rule him as much as he rules them, if not more, and his inability to control them or their voices is a constant problem and source of agony to him. His unpredictability and hair-trigger reflexes can result in instincts and reactions that can hurt others, and his own psyche is effectively out to destroy what it can whenever he is unable to stop it from doing so. Outside of Chaos, Galian Beast, and the others, Vincent's sense of guilt and self-incrimination is his biggest weakness; he holds back a lot and communicates little, isolating himself from others and sequestering his fractured emotiuons away in a deep part of himself to prevent further damage to what is left of his fragile humanity. His reason and rationale are both affected by this, often in subtle ways, and he may irrationally blame himself for things simply because he was present. He is also extraordinarily stubborn and (among other things) will never ask for help, refusing to do so even for simple things, let alone what he may genuinely need help with.

Background: Here is a wiki. Please disregard all information attributed to the game Dirge of Cerberus, as it is prone to inconsistency with the original canon (as well as sometimes itself) and I will not be including it in my characterisation.

Abilities: Vincent is gifted with rapid regeneration and inhuman speed as well as increased strength--incredible strength, actually, as he is quite capable of crushing a man's skull with his clawed hand. His reflexes take the term "lightning fast" to a new level, and he moves with an alacrity far beyond the realm of normal human possiblity. His senses, too, are unnaturally enhanced, and as a marksman, he is nigh-unsurprised. His uncanny accuracy and precision have been augmented with vision and hearing far superior to human comprehension. All of these make him a formidable weapon, and he uses them as seamlessly as most people seem to breathe; when he puts his mind to it, Vincent is a killing machine. He is not, however, mindless--just the opposite, in fact, Vincent is very intelligent and quite creative with the use of his skills. He is not afraid of getting hurt and for reasons both personal and obvious he is unafraid of death, on whose side he decidedly stands. His limit breaks, obviously, are overwhelmingly powerful, but they are as much a weakness a strength, for he frequently has no control over where they go and what they do--they take over him completely, and destroy everything in their path. When he is in control, however, he has the benefit of extraordinary discipline--even before his transformation, he was a Turk, and though he is capable of going great stretches without sleep, food, or water as a result of it, he can now ignore both hunger and exhaustion or shut out distractions with a single-minded ability that is almost frightening in its depth.

As far as his limit breaks go, there are four: four transformations, that is, demonstrated here. While he can choose to undergo a transformation at any time, his control over these forms is limited at best when it's voluntary, and utterly nonexistent when it's not. It's not a pleasant process, and is absolutely hell on his clothes.

First Person: [A forbidding face appears on then screen, unkempt black hair framing pale skin and near-luminous red eyes. The expression on this face is grim at worst, unreadably flat at best. When he speaks, his voice is low and contains a touch of gravel, as though rough from disuse.]

Does anyone in this city have access to a blender? I want one.

[...well, that was unexpected. Maybe he's not so bad....?

Or maybe he is. He never actually specified what the blender was for, after all.
]

Third Person: Vincent entered the cool shelter of the cave, ignoring--perhaps even welcoming--the chilly spray from the falls behind him as his footsteps echoed off the light stone. This was a hidden place, a sacred one, known to only a handful of people in the world. Lucrecia's cave. The spirit was gone, but memory lived here--memory, peace, and silence, complete save for the rush of water nearby and the slow dripping of cold, clear water at the entrance where he stood. He felt like a trespasser here, a black spirit of sin in a home dedicated to light, but at the same time it was his: a sanctuary. The only place on the Planet's surface where he could be at rest. Strands of black hair clung to his face as he stepped over the crystalline puddles, droplets of water clinging to the fabric of his cloak and the metal curves of his claws--he paid it no mind, accepting it and embracing it as part of the experience.

"Lucrecia..."

The name left his mouth almost involuntarily, his low, rasping voice, rough from disuse, disappearing in the microcosm of time and space that he felt separated him from the rest of the world. He had brought the gun with him, Death Penalty; his other weaponry was left outside as a rule, but Death Penalty came with him, and its presence was felt heavily; at no other time did a gun carry such weight, such importance in his mind as now. His gift from Lucrecia, his forgiveness... or what could be forgiven and never could. He stopped in the cavern, shutting his eyes, letting time pass over him and falling back into the deep, bitter recesses of memory.

Lucrecia...

The smell of crystal and damp, clean air filled his nose, the sound of rushing falls and slow, echoing droplets, the steady, rocking rhythm of the train, a muted undulation as it raced along its tracks--

...wait. What?

His eyes flew open. He jerked up, dislodging the gun--Death Penalty--that had been nestled against his clawed arm; he moved quickly to catch it, but his eyes were on the place around him, the inside of an old-fashioned, pre-Materia locomotive....?!
